::: {{ping|Jackattack1597}} - Depends on the place. None of these will qualify for speedy except in very rare cases (copyright violations or reposting of material previously deleted at AFD). Most of the Virginia corners were part of [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Allen Shop Corner, Virginia]], which was closed because nominating 85 articles at the same time is too many, so they are ineligible for PROD. If I can tell that something is non-notable with pretty good certainty, PROD is the way to go, but if there's doubt, either AFD or just let it be. As a note, the PROD system can hold up under having quite a few PRODs, but nominate a bunch in a single day, and you risk having more than AFD can handle at a time. Bacon, bullets and Buruli

I just finished reading through all that armament stuff, and after a particularly rough start to my editing day, am taking a break to share my bacon, bullets and Buruli stories with you. Be prepared!

So, many eons ago, when dear hubby was still in the so-called "trying to impress me phase" of courtship (they really should keep it up), we were driving through the country and suddenly I exclaimed, "Ew, WHAT is that SMELL?" He says, "Let me introduce you to my friend", and makes a quick turn into what was once a golf course, bankrupted, converted now to hog barns and a fishing hole belonging to his buddy. Ah, the lovely smell of hog barns when the wind and humidity are just right. So, as he goes around to open the car door for me (really, men should keep that up, why do they stop?), he suddenly (catches on quick) notices the four-inch-heels on my alligator slides acquired in Caracas, along with the silk and cashmere blouse, and stammers ... "uh, you're going to need some more practical shoes". Almost lost me at that point, because what is the point of life in practical shoes, I ask ?

Fast forward, and we're moving to our home together. I'm packing, and call him at the office to ask what I am supposed to do with all these bullets. (Yes, there is a connection here to armament.) He asks, "what bullets?" Says he doesn't have any bullets. I say they are everywhere, here and there, scattered about the basement, kitchen, family room. He insists he owns no bullets. I say, you know, those red things that are about three inches long and have like a gold cap. He replies, "Oh, you mean shells!" Right. Whatever. Same stuff; it goes boom when you put it in a gun.

Fast forward more years, and we are at the aforementioned ex-golf course turned hog barn/fishing hole, for some sort of shooting exercise. I seem to remember clay pigeons, but I could be wrong, because I learned there are many different kinds of things to shoot at ... trap, skeet, pigeons, whatever ... stuff you shoot. So they gave me a gun, pulled the thingie, and I pointed, closed my eyes and fired. The place erupted in cheers! I opened my eyes and said, "What?" They said, " You dusted it!" My first shot ever. (And my last.) I had to ask what that meant. After they explained, well, that's cool, because I had my eyes closed and never even saw it. Have never fired a gun again, because why not quit when you're batting 1.000 ?!?!!?

So, all of that is a long way to say just as I can review all the different kinds of topics I read at FAC, FAR and PR, and try to provide some sort of review, I am pretty darn sick of hearing from all of those who can't be arsed to return the favor when a medical article needs review. 'Tis no wonder it is near impossible to convince medical editors to go for FAC, after they do all that work and are then ignored. So thanks to you and Gog the Mild for reviewing Ajpolino's Buruli ulcer. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:31, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SandyGeorgia, "really, men should keep that up, why do they stop?" Well, my brother once chided his wife "You shouldn't eat all of that chocolate, you'll get fat." Without pausing she snapped back "It doesn't matter. I'm already married." And reduced the room to gales of laughter.
Bullets. Well now, bullets are the bits on the end of shells that don't go boom. I suspect that you know this.
Medical articles. No problem. It was straight forward. Let me know when the next one comes up. I suspect that HF may be of the same opinion. And Ajpolino should feel entirely free to give Battle of the Saw a prose review for jargon, assumptions, recherche language and generally everything which may not be comprehensible to non-aficionados. Lack of any military knowledge not so much an advantage as a necessity. I am sure that HF will have another FAC along before too long where a similar approach would be welcome. Not as QPQ so much as to encourage others. Gog the Mild (talk) 22:03, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have always had the philosophy that the way to solve the chocolate dilemma is to forego protein and vegetables (make every calorie count)! So far, it's working for me, but I understand it may catch up to me someday :) I do understand a bit more about bacon and bullets now! Not to mention Buruli, whose acquaintance I was less happy to make. Happy New Year !! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:19, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Nichols's Missouri Cavalry Regiment

On 11 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Nichols's Missouri Cavalry Regiment, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that when Nichols's Missouri Cavalry Regiment was formed, about two-thirds of its men were unarmed? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Nichols's Missouri Cavalry Regiment. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Nichols's Missouri Cavalry Regiment), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

    Your RfA

Just for Hammersoft, here is some Bacon

Hey Hog Farm. I don't think we've interacted before, so hi :) I just wanted to drop you a note about your RfA. At my recent RfA, I got curious about the pace votes were coming in due to a comment someone made on the RfA's talk page. I did some comparisons against recent RfAs, and found my RfA was tacking rather fast compared to most of the recent RfAs. I don't want to jinx anything, but your RfA is currently tracking twice as fast as mine did. Looks to be off to a very good start! I haven't !voted, in part because I don't usually comment on RfAs, and in part because so far as I am aware we haven't interacted before. But, I may if I can find some time to do a review. Again, congrats on the great start! --Hammersoft (talk) 19:09, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    • Also, I added {{Skip to bottom}} to the top of this talk page with this edit. I thought it might be helpful given how long your talk page is. If you don't want it, feel free to remove it, no worries. Addendum to the above comment; I don't expect you to respond to my comment above. I get it feels awkward to respond to such things while your RfA is going on. --Hammersoft (talk) 19:41, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thanks for adding {{Skip to bottom}} - it was getting pretty long. I didn't know that template existed. It's getting to the point where I need to archive, but I'm going to wait until after the RFA closes, as I think that suddenly archiving your talk page right before your RFA can make it look like you're hiding something. The tricky thing I'm learning with answering RFA questions is that if you're not careful, there's a high risk of editing out someone else's comments/questions, so I know now I need to check the diff of my answer to make sure I didn't accidentally remove anything. Hog Farm Bacon 19:45, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
        • When my RfA was running, I would craft answers to new questions in a separate editing window. When I was ready with the answer, I would open a new editing window, and copy/paste the answer into the appropriate question slot and quickly save it. In this way, I was hoping to avoid any edit conflicts or unintentional overwrites. Hope that helps! --Hammersoft (talk) 19:58, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I typed my answers in notepad, read them aloud to Mrs 333 who critiqued them, edited them as a result, and then posted them. Better to be careful than quick. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:01, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm using the multiple tabs thing, as well. A weird thing for me is that I've always been a better extemporaneous speaker than a planned one, so the sort of unplanned nature of RFA questions actually helps me a little. The big struggle is that some of these further back incidents I don't have much memory of, as my memory's never been the same since taking a concussion in a high school baseball game. Hog Farm Bacon 20:06, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • I had a friend who suffered a fall off of a storage shed on his property. He suffered a concussion as well. His memory was somewhat affected, as was his personality to some degree, but the bigger impact for him was his sudden inability to do basic math. The brain is a strange things sometimes. By the way, your signature promised me bacon if I came to your talk page. I don't see any bacon here. I might have to oppose your RfA on the grounds of unfulfilled promises ;) --Hammersoft (talk) 20:09, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Ritchie333: Brilliant! [1] Absolutely brilliant! :) --Hammersoft (talk) 21:26, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Well, time wise you're about 4 hours short of the half way mark now on your RfA. You've just crossed 150 supports. In the last 14 months, across 27 successful RfAs, there's been only 4 RfAs that have gotten to 150 supports faster than your RfA. You're still on a blistering pace. I know there's lots of questions, and concerns raised about the quotas, but hang in there. Barring presentation of something really damning in your editing history, you're past the hump now. RfAs can be stressful. But, you're past the worst of it at this point I think. Have faith! --Hammersoft (talk) 01:32, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This has been a bit of an ordeal. Is 25 questions normal? Hog Farm Talk 01:33, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • It's significantly above average (17 over those 27). Mine had 29 (shows 28, but there was a "17A"). That's the most among this 27 successful RfA dataset. You probably won't get many more questions at this point. --Hammersoft (talk) 01:38, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • You might be interested in seeing this graph of pageviews on your RfA. The next couple of days will see a drop off of pageviews. Questions and !votes will drop off as well. The last day will see more activity but it's unlikely there will be more questions on the last day. --Hammersoft (talk) 01:42, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    URFA note

You really didn't have to do that :) The queries I had are insignificant in the big picture; we would not be bringing that article to FAR over that. And, if you leave your "Satisfactory", and I leave my "Notes", I will be the one eventually removing the note when the issues are addressed (that is, in this case, we have three actively involved editors, so I'm sure they will answer). Also, we aren't after perfection; it's OK if not everything is fixed, and important to pace ourselves (meaning, at Invasion of Tulagi (May 1942), I'm OK with leaving a note and moving on-- if we try to fix every little thing, risk of burnout). The reason I leave the Note is just a reminder to self to check in after a month or so, so I don't have to watchlist every article I review. I hope my "finding something" didn't feel like a "gotcha"! Bst, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:26, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Need help

The article Ludington, Michigan has recently had non-notable people added to it. It needs semi-protection and I requested that, but apparently not the correct way. I don't know the correct way - can you help me on this. How can I get this article semi-protected? Thanks for your help. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:26, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Doug Coldwell: - It's been semiprotected now by Malcomxl5. It just takes a while for page protection requests to get handled sometimes. When one of my articles was on the main page as TFA, it got vandalized so much. Hog Farm Talk 00:19, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Congratulations on your RfA

Congratulations on your successful RfA, and of being the first new admin of the new year! – John M Wolfson (talkcontribs) 17:19, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Congrats..The admins' T-shirt for you. CAPTAIN RAJU(T) 17:21, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations! As I mentioned in my support on your RfA, it is heartening to see a nominee who started editing within the last two years. We've had a very hard time attracting qualified candidates who have been here less than five years. On the flip side of that; you edit on average a thousand times+ a month. Be careful not to burn out. It's easy to get too absorbed in this project. With the new buttons available to you, you might find that it's even more tempting to get too absorbed. When I became an admin, WereSpielChequers pointed me to a script that dramatically eases conducting blocks. It can be added to your monobook.js, as I did it to mine with this edit. It changes the "block" tab you now have on editor's user/usertalk pages and gives a useful drop down of potential block reasons. Clicking on one does all the blocking and notification for you. Of note; your RfA finalized in the top 40 of the most supported RfAs of all time. This places it in the top 2% of all RfAs. Don't let it go to your head :) I think of being an admin as a demotion . --Hammersoft (talk) 17:30, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I like to think of adminship as the former job I had where my boss would hand me tools and expect me to fix a broken industrial-sized dishwasher. Once I became a manager, I got access to more tools. It made fixing the dishwasher easier, but it also meant I had to be more careful to avoiding damaging things, and I also had more responsibility. When I first started, I was only given a fork, but I eventually got a hammer, screwdriver, and utility knife. More tools to do maintenance with, but more care is needed. As an aside, I pity whoever replaced me as dishwasher fixer after I left that job for a better one. Hog Farm Talk 17:41, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Is it possible to fix a dishwasher with a fork? I'd have thought you'd at least need a spoon! Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 18:57, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
With a fork, not really. But a butter knife can serve as a chisel, screwdriver, and wedge in a pinch. Hog Farm Talk 18:59, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

          • Just wanted to echo the above, congratulations and thank you for volunteering to help out the encyclopaedia even more than you already do. I hope it wasn't too stressful for you, but I can understand if you felt it was a little confronting. My own RfA was not a good time for me -- not really due to the process itself, though -- but during the middle of it I had a particularly difficult situation at work involving the accidental death of someone close to me, which made the whole thing worse than it should have been. Anyway, all the best and I hope you will keep up the article writing regardless of the new admin role. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 09:26, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I knew you would pass this RfA. Don't let the experience alter your perception of adminship - it is a long and stressful beast that gets you something you might not think you need. Congratulations!

Congratulations, Hog Farm! I don't know how I missed your RfA but I was looking at some articles you PROD'd, moved my cursor over your username and saw you were now an admin!

My only advice is now, and in the future, never think twice about asking another admin for a second opinion. None of us are experienced in all areas of the project and most admins have "a beat" of sorts, areas of the project that they frequently deal with. The best admins know what they are good at and what areas they have less knowledge about and they don't hesitate to call on another admin who is more well-versed in that area of the project. This also means that there are many parts of the project to explore so I hope you find some work that you find enjoyable or satisfying. Good luck! Liz Read! Talk! 04:57, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hope you get to doing better. I think that's all. I've mainly been editing lately during college classes, as I've got a couple classes with mandatory attendance but slow lectures. So I may be missing something to, as I'm only paying about half attention to both the teacher and the screen. Hog Farm Talk 22:47, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Iroquois, New York?

First, a belated congrats on your RfA! You're a great addition to the admin corps.

Second, I wondered if I could benefit from your geographical expertise in tracking down a possible place in upstate New York called Iroquois, New York. It would be near the Buffalo Creek Reservation or Cattaraugus Reservation, so probably in Erie County, New York.

I came across a reference to it while researching Laura Maria Sheldon Wright; she ostensibly died there (see this encyclopedia entry, among others). There's also a reference to it on page 28 of this PDF. I'm thinking it was probably an unofficial term designating "areas where Iroquois people live in upstate New York" and not an official placename, but I wondered if it might show up in some source I can't think of. Thanks for any leads. AleatoryPonderings (???) (!!!) 04:09, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@AleatoryPonderings: Here's the basic USGS file for it. It along doesn't mean much alone, but I can track down the coordinates of it site from there. According to the topographic maps, it is in southern Erie County near the county line and slightly to the north of Versailles, New York. On the 1905 and 1907 topographic maps, it is shown as a cluster of homes at a crossroads with two churches; there is an Indian school nearby to the west. By 1944, most of the homes and one of the churches are gone, and the school is revealed to be the Thomas Indian School. What is there is pretty stable from 1944 to 1960, which is the last small-scale topo until 2010, and the 2010 and later ones do not show individual buildings. It was viewed as enough of a separate community in 1921 to be stated as the community where the Thomas Indian School was. This has the phrasing "Iroquois (Thomas Indian School)" This calls it the post office for the school. This also mentions the school's post office. It's hard to find good results because of noise for an Iroquois hotel and an Iroquois pipline company, but from what I can determine, it appears to have been a site in southern Erie county that had a post office and was affiliated with the Thomas Indian School. I wouldn't consider this to be usable as a source, but it's a fairly decent site and says the Iroquois post office was open from 1898 to 1956. Hog Farm Talk 04:44, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Amazing, thank you. The connection with Thomas Indian School makes sense as the Wrights were either founders of or heavily affiliated with it. Appreciate the help. Also, per the above—glad to know I'm not the only one "attending" Zoom school while actually editing WP … AleatoryPonderings (???) (!!!) 04:50, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    PRODs

    Hello, Hog Farm,

Thanks for your work with tagging all of these unincorporated "former settlements" and the like. From what I've seen, there are just 3 or 4 admins who regularly go through the day's expiring PRODs and there have been so many of these nonnotable places in California, Virginia and the like that have been tagged over the past few weeks (hundreds?), I don't think you need to write lengthy explanations. As for me, at this point I know you know the sources and policy guidelines so I check to see if the page has been PROD'd before and I trust your judgment. Thanks again! Liz Read! I slipped on ice earlier today and while I don't remember hitting my head, the headache I've had for the last several hours says I probably did. Looking at a screen is not an enjoyable experience right now and there's the possiblity of a mild concussion, so depending on how I feel in the morning, it may be a day or two before I'm active again. Bummer. When I had my first concussion (snow skiing accident 20 years ago, where a green skiier blindsided me bad and knocked me into a frozen bank), it took me about six months to be normal. I got the concussion on the 9th, and it's now the 14th, and I'm back to about 90% normal. I think I slept something like 15-18 hours a day for the first two days after it. I was back to work today with no ill effects, and I'm on track to get back to full participation in classes when they resume Monday. Spent the last two days doing accounting homework I got behind on. WikiCup 2021 March newsletter

Round 1 of the competition has finished; it was a high-scoring round with 21 contestants scoring more than 100 points. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 55 contestants qualifying. You will need to finish among the top thirty-two contestants in Round 2 if you are to qualify for Round 3. Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

    • New York (state) Epicgenius led the field with a featured article, nine good articles and an assortment of other submissions, specialising on buildings and locations in New York, for a total of 945 points.
    • Republic of Venice Bloom6132 was close behind with 896 points, largely gained from 71 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
    • Scotland ImaginesTigers, who has been editing Wikipedia for less than a year, was in third place with 711 points, much helped by bringing League of Legends to featured article status, exemplifying how bonus points can boost a contestant's score.
    • Rwanda Amakuru came next with 708 points, Kigali being another featured article that scored maximum bonus points.
    • Ktin, new to the WikiCup, was in fifth place with 523 points, garnered from 15 DYKs and 34 "In the news" items.
    • Botswana The Rambling Man scored 511 points, many from featured article candidate reviews and from football related DYKs.
    • Gog the Mild, last year's runner-up, came next with 498 points, from a featured article and numerous featured article candidate reviews.
    • Hog Farm, at 452, scored for a featured article, four good articles and a number of reviews.
    • United States Le Panini, another newcomer to the WikiCup, scored 438 for a featured article and three good articles.
    • England Lee Vilenski, last year's champion, scored 332 points, from a featured article and various other sport-related topics.

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. In Round 1, contestants achieved eight featured articles, three featured lists and one featured picture, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. They completed 97 good article reviews, nearly double the 52 good articles they claimed. Contestants also claimed for 135 featured article and featured list candidate reviews. There is no longer a requirement to mention your WikiCup participation when undertaking these reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or something else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! P.S. Flalf wanted me to remember to tell you, "OY BUCKAROO GET ON THE COMMUNITY DISCORD!". –♠Vami_IV†♠ 05:04, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Good sir Vami, may I present Template:Citation needed. FlalfTalk 05:07, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the invite, but I don't discord. This site takes up enough of my time as it is, and I prefer to keep things onwiki as much as possible. Hog Farm Talk 06:31, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Disheartening, but perfectly understandably. Hope to collaborate with you on Trans-Mississippi ACW articles in the future, as I'm going to be active in Texas. –♠Vami_IV†♠ 10:00, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for 10th Texas Field Battery

On 10 March 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 10th Texas Field Battery, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 10th Texas Field Battery fired at a courthouse during the Battle of Pine Bluff? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/10th Texas Field Battery. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 10th Texas Field Battery), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

    Unincorporated community PRODs

Hi, I've been running through the PRODs recently and I've seen a lot of unincorporated communities being proposed. Is there some movement I'm out of the loop on? Anyway, I was wondering what your opinion on redirecting these to their counties instead of deleting them is (e.g. Surprise Hill, Virginia redirects to Northumberland County, Virginia). I recognise that they may not be mentioned in the target article, but they remain plausible search terms insomuch as they all had articles for over a decade. I've always preferred redirection over deletion. Anarchyte (talkwork) 15:08, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Anarchyte: - The closest thing to a movement going on would be the realization, explained at WP:GNIS, that probably over 10,000 one and two-liner stubs were mass created from a database, often without doing any sort of other checking to see what is going on. It also turns out that that database has a tendency to call things "populated places" that are not populated places. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fish Pond, Kentucky and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Prettyman, Missouri for what a lot of these "unincorporated communities" are. I think there are some cases where redirection or merging is appropriate, but for a lot of these, I frankly don't think the redirect is useful. I'm approaching this from a thought process of "would what this feature really is be significant enough to mention in the country article". Surprise Hill is a maybe - it's a named hill with an informal community on it, so that might be significant. But looking through some of the other ones: Moores Mill, Virginia is a literal mill site. Mills were incredibly common in the 1800s, so why would that specific one be significant enough for a redirect? The source link for Pinehurts, Virginia doesn't work, and my WP:BEFORE search brought up nothing. I don't think it's worth a redirect if we can't even verify its existence. Manchester, Richmond County, Virginia doesn't actually exist, no need to redirect. Moon Corner, Virginia is a named road junction with nothing there and no historical significance to be found. I'm not sure why an individual road junction with no significance should have a redirect. Many of the other ones I've prodded are subdivisions/housing developments/apartment buildings/trailer parks. There are hundreds of such type things in any city the size of Richmond or Louisville, Kentucky, or Bakersfield, California. I'm not sure why they would have any individual significance for the most part. Hog Farm Talk 20:03, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I guess as a TL;DR, the ones that users have been PRODding/AFDing lately are generally false content: these sites are generally either suburban subdivisions which fail WP:GEOLAND or other features that are not, and never have been, "unincorporated communities". Some of these may be worth a redirect, but at least I don't see why individual mills, road junctions, generic housing developments, or nonexistent/unverifiable places would have redirects. You may disagree, though. I guess I just feel strongly about this: back in high school, I read a Wikipedia article about an "unincorporated community" in the area, and believed that there had actually been a historic community there. That article has since been deleted as part of the cleanup process - it was really where somebody had named barn in the early 1900s. I was misled by negligent article mass-creation. If this gives you any reassurance, I've been searching these fairly closely, and avoiding PRODding or AFDding anything that seems to have ever been considered a stand-alone community. I won't object if you want to redirect Surprise Hill, but I'm not sure how useful it would be with no mention. In my opinion, most of these are either legitimate sites that probably deserve an article, which I've been leaving alone, or false or insignificant features that frankly don't warrant a mention in the encyclopedia. This is to let you know that the 4th Missouri Infantry Regiment (Confederate) article has been scheduled as today's featured article for April 28, 2021. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 28, 2021, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:32, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Useful template

Having seen User:Hog Farm/GNIS Cleanup/Missouri I wonder whether {{On AFD}} will make your life easier. It has an optional second parameter for linking to second discussions and batched nominations. Uncle G (talk) 06:39, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Uncle G: - Thanks for pointing that out to me. As to the Missouri one, the more research I did, the more I began to realize that most of the Missouri ones are, in fact, the site of legitimate historical communities, so that specific user subpage I've been considering just deleting. It may be useful for a few of the other states - there's a lot of questionable stuff in Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia. Of course, many of the places are notable, even if they don't look like that on the surface (I recently expanded Martensdale, California from a three-liner), but a number of these seem to be mass-production errors. Hog Farm Talk 20:24, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Creators of non notable places

I noticed that we both seem to be interested in AFDing non-notable unincorporated communities and other places, so I was wondering if we could compare notes about who the creators of these articles are. ( Since, as seen on AN, if there are users who have created many non notable articles they can be sanctioned. ) I noticed that the super-editor Ser Amantio de Nicolao has created a lot of non-notable incorporated community articles, at least in Virginia, and I was wondering if he is the creator of a lot of non-notable articles you have found as well, or if it is mainly other people. ( Obviously it would be very difficult and not necessarily a good thing to sanction the most prolific editor of all time, but I'm just trying to get a feel for how many not-notable articles he has created. ) Jackattack1597 (talk) 22:53, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jackattack1597: - I've talked to Ser Amantio about these, and he agrees that most of these are non-notable. He's just really busy and not familiar enough with the sources to be able to prune them himself. He has no objection to the deletion of the non-notable ones, and told me he is okay with not being notified for these. An honest mistake made 10 years ago, and not a behavioral problem at all. The other big one I'm aware of is User:Vanished user 7b1215e7ef746ac20682e3dbe03f5b84, who is long gone. Vanished User primarily worked in Kentucky and West Virginia, as well as with names they viewed as unusual, such as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Spunky Puddle, Ohio. I will note that some of these Virginia places are the sites of old 1700s and 1800s communities, so be sure to do a good WP:BEFORE. Anything will "mill" or "corner" in the title is probably NN, though. Gilliam created a bunch of articles, but he at least cross-checked two sources in most cases, so there's a much higher legitimacy rate there. Carlos is the only stub-mass creator in the topic that is really problematic, as the others are either higher-quality, recognize the error and are fine with deletion, or long gone. Hog Farm Talk 23:05, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that's good to know that Carlos is the only problematic creator, and the others don't really object much to the deletions or have chronic creation problems. Also, what deletion method do you usually use for most of the unincorporated communities? AFD, Proposed deletion, or speedy deletion?Jackattack1597 (talk) 23:08, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jackattack1597: - Depends on the place. None of these will qualify for speedy except in very rare cases (copyright violations or reposting of material previously deleted at AFD). Most of the Virginia corners were part of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Allen Shop Corner, Virginia, which was closed because nominating 85 articles at the same time is too many, so they are ineligible for PROD.
