Hi Gerda. Do you remember what I said here? I took a long time to upload that image for the Ernst Roth article. Now I've finally managed to do the same for the Leonard N. Fowles article. It being a musical subject and both having epitaphs related to that, I thought you might appreciate a note about this. One happy editor

Dear Gerda, - I want to thank you, so much, for naming me an "awesome Wikipedian" for my work on the Mark Satin biography, and for giving me my day! As you may know, the article was "Today's featured article" on the Main Page that day, and I (with others' help) have had to spend all my Wikipedia time since then digging out from under various malicious edits and inappropriate edits. Receiving the award when I did made these last 10 days much more bearable for me.

I would love to put news of the award on my talk page! I've done so in the text, but I would prefer doing so with a Userbox, particularly if it has that gorgeous blue sapphire on it. Is there one? I'll watch this space for your reply. - Babel41 (talk) 04:21, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Orwell does indeed offer a number of good recommendations for writing, which I try to keep in mind when I write and edit.

About your comments etc.

Hi Gerda

Thanks for the award! I think you might have wondered what I've been up to recently, it might not be very clear. Well I've worked mainly on the help system, created a couple of pages (Help:Table/HTML_and_tables and Wikipedia:Template messages/Examples), and recently updated Template:ArbCom navigation.

Well I've noticed you around as well. Looking at your user pages it's clear to me that you're a legend here, and sorting out awards is admirable.

I was thinking about what you said on the noticeboard, and was meaning to reply. I don't think you can blame yourself for what happened to Dreadstar really. In my opinion he was showing clear signs of stress. For example, misunderstanding what MB had meant, and then sending that e-mail. And as I said before, I think his unblocking of MB was just so he could exit WP once and for all, as I think he knew it would lead to his desysopping. He'd had enough of it all, and who can blame him? I think WP can be stressful at times, as well as rewarding. Maybe his stress was WP related, in which he's probably best out. But if it isn't then I'm not sure there is much we can do. Having said that, maybe he'll want to return at some point, but he'd have to go through RfA again to get admin status, so I'm not too sure about that.

Dreadstar was with me for years and knows that I was sarcastic. He did the right thing, but "out of process". (MB is unblocked.) I said that also. Perhaps you saw on my userpage that I dedicated the article in question to him. Thank you! - Actually not really a milestone, - I am not counting ;) - It came as quite a pleasant surprise, while I had carefully planned my DYK #500 (and nobody noticed), - it was also the expression of gratitude to a person who was still alive then. - If you read that you will understand that in the award, I like "peace" above all! While those edits spent at arbitration were tiring, I am sure, perhaps other editors learned from them and "lessons learned" are important, too. You are writing as a pioneer in this amazing online encyclopedia, and someday, some academician will study your words and write a dissertation, including the arb stuff you went through, but more importantly, of course, all the FA, GA, DYK, etc. content brought to light by you. I would be interested how an independent spirit would look at the "arb stuff". My version is short: the case I was in - infoboxes - was requested because when {{infobox opera}} was introduced I embraced it, others reverted, a friend requested arbitration, - there the mere mentioning of "infobox" raised memories of years of battles, and everybody gathered to get revenge for those battles. The workshop phase was actually quite productive, including a suggestion for Beethoven which is now in the article. The lesson I learned: patience ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:52, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments re: my edits of this article. I always get worried when I start editing a work in progress that I might have gone too far with the tweaks.

I actually have three recordings of the aria, in one of them published by Deutsche Grammophon in 1992, the liner notes state that during the 1808 concert, Beethoven commented the piece made no sense outside the context of a drama. It's given as a paraphrase rather than a direct quotation, and as liner notes there is no source given, I'm not sure where to start research, so I thought I'd mention it here as something to keep in mind. My lawyer Looked: 14 is fine as is. 29 supports that he was (at the time of the interview) a scout in Basel. The Interview was in Prague at an international event where he was a guest, and he said that scouting is needed there also. Thank you for singing the seldom performed Christus factus est, WAB 9 (the graduale of the Messe für den Gründonnerstag). Regrettably you do not sing the "forgotten" WAB 10 (8-voice mixed choir, string quintet and 3 trombones), about which Nowak wrote "One has to value this composition as one of the most expressive and monumental works of Bruckner's sacred music.". Thank you for a motion. When I noticed "Motion" for the first time - a newbie to arbitration - I thought it meant to set something in motion, so made a suggestion for an infobox for Verdi, did you know? I tried infoboxes for Rigoletto and Don Carlos, Viva-Verdi added those and all other operas by Verdi. Chilling to think of my request last January to add one to Verdi also, - as we now know he was close to death already, otherwise would likely have done it. - In this case "motion" may actually move something. The wording reads as if I disrupted infobox discussions (which I am not aware of doing, ever, - I think I just did things too early, - really nice to see my proposal for Beethoven now in the article), but never mind, I heard worse in my career as an alleged infobox warrior ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:47, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

I like the separation of conductor / choir / orchestra in the RexxS sandbox for the general template but think it is not needed for type cantata, especially as choir and orchestra are often one, or one is missing, - would we get two lines then? Will discuss in the template talk.

@Alakzi: It is somewhat different, in that the two-comments-per-discussion rule is gone, and that it allows infobox addition with consensus; or if no one shows up to oppose after three days. And, of course, it disappears automatically in six months. Courcelles (talk) 23:42, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

What I would prefer is the two comments restriction for everybody, seriously, which I said in my capitulation amendment request. I would also like counter voices to be discarded which only mention dislike or redundancy or "doesn't add to the article". Every infobox is redundant by concept, and adds to the article, only some spectators do not see how. (For those who didn't watch it all, in a nutshell: I was against infoboxes in 2012 but learned that much in half a year.) • the Volkslied, WAB 94, composed for a contest with 1,320 (!) candidates
• Der deutsche Gesang, WAB 63 (1892), an "intermediate step" between the patriotic Germanenzug and Helgoland

and perhaps also

• the "odd" Abendzauber, WAB 57,
• Das hohe Lied, WAB 74. Unfortunately there is no recording available of this semi-cantata.
