Revision as of 20:31, 2 February 2021

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Pakenham, Victoria

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism - Vandalism had started a few days ago. The article was temporarily protected but still under vandalism since temporary protection period ended.

    Kalbajar District

Temporary Full protection: Continous edit warring over the past few days. — CuriousGolden (T·C) 15:20, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for a period of 10 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Berig (talk) 20:31, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Macaroon

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recent disruption with editing page, vandals keep changing info/wording. Tinton5 (talk) 19:26, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Berig (talk) 19:54, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Xinjiang re-education camps

Semi-protection: Controversial topic leading to persistent vandalism, still clearly needs semi-protection as it had before. Volteer1 (talk) 19:39, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    • Comment I second this. IPs and new accounts have been reverted fairly frequently for disruptive editing over the past week, and this issue does not appear to be going away any time soon. I would suggest consideration of a permanent semi-protection, since this is a persistent problem. — Mikehawk10 (talk) 06:57, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Berig (talk) 19:55, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Big Brother 22 (American season)

Semi-protection: Problematic user continuously adds information in the "Controversy and criticism" area that isn't correctly sourced, spells names wrong, and comes from a misleading website. 51.37.177.45 (talk) 19:44, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unnecessary. A typo is easily fixed (and now has been), and the source is www.cheatsheet.com, which cites its assertion to video feeds and is used frequently in reality tv articles. This is an editing dispute between the IP editor above and another user, they are welcome to make their respective arguments on the talk page. Zaathras (talk) 22:02, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Names are still spelt wrong and source is still not correctly inserted, CheatSheet also fails to back up any claims with video feed footage. 51.37.177.45 (talk) 12:52, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Berig (talk) 19:58, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    User:RAIN WATER MANAGEMENT

    Indefinite create protection: Repeatedly recreated. Larryzhao123 (talk | contribs) 19:47, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: The user in question has been indefinitely blocked, so I don't think this will be an issue going forward. Cheers, Ovinus (talk) 02:31, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Repeated vandalism by IPs. —El Millo (talk) 19:53, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Berig (talk) 20:01, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Maria Juliana (Julie)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Jalen Folf (talk) 21:36, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection.--Berig (talk) 20:20, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Zeta Psi

Temporary semi-protection: An IP editor is repeatedly removing information without explaining why. Probably the same person has removed the same passages previously from other IP addresses. I attempted to engage on the latest IP's talk page but no response. Hoping that if page is semi-protected, it will spur them to explain why they are removing passages. Wes sideman (talk) 21:50, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Spider-Man PS4

Temporary semi-protection: An IP editor is adding information to the page that is not cited and is edit warring with Darkwarriorblake over it. Hopefully protecting the page will encourage them to provide more sources and a section for what they want to add Jericho Morales (talk) 21:55, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Tigrayans

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent vandalism and edit warring by unconfirmed user User:Lanterner12 and two IP’s over the past days. Repeatedly adding content that goes against the consensus reached on talk page, to keep two ethnics separated in two separate articles. Also other non-constructive editing such as removing that the Tigray region lies in Ethiopia or removing other content.Leechjoel9 (talk) 22:09, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

History of Saturday Night Live (2020–present)

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Long-term disruption from IPs, far too much unreferenced analysis in violation of WP:NOR. Several IP ranges are involved including Special:Contributions/2600:1702:3200:D3B0:0:0:0:0/64, Special:Contributions/2601:4A:8580:754C:0:0:0:0/64, Special:Contributions/2600:1700:E5E0:7CD0:0:0:0:0/64, Special:Contributions/2600:1700:81A0:4A90:0:0:0:0/64 and Special:Contributions/2601:408:C301:3EA0:0:0:0:0/64. Indefinite semi-protection: BLP policy violations – This page is a bit of a BLP magnet and editors have repeatedly added poorly sourced or unsourced material about people appearing in sex tapes. Ovinus (talk) 02:12, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Sustained sockpuppetry by Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Xayahrainie43. Also if you could block the IP, that'd be great. JBL (talk) 14:56, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – The article was up for a rewrite and it was completed on 18 December 2020. Since then some caste POV pushers (IPs and users) started reverting to the old unreliably sourced version [1] [2] [3] [4]. It was protected by Ivanvector on 23 December. But since the expiry of the protection, these IPs and new users have again started reverting to the old unreliable/poorly sourced version [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]. Requesting protection and if possible extended, since some users might gain autoconfirmed rights in the mean time. Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:16, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also note how the user makes it clear that they'll use another account to revert war "continuously " here. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:27, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection: Single-purpose editor(s) (User and IP) is engaging in persistent disruptive editing by adding material without sources; has been warned against doing this multiple times. --Bangalamania (talk) 15:40, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Note: If it's IP vandalism, them only semi-protection is needed, plus a block of the offending user. —C.Fred (talk) 18:19, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@C.Fred: The offending user (I believe) has used an IP originally but is now using a Wikipedia account. There are other IPs which seem to have hopped onto the article as well. I've tried to raise the issue over at WP:ANEW. --Bangalamania (talk) 19:44, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Bangalamania: I have the page on my watchlist. It seems to have quieted down over the last hour or two. —C.Fred (talk) 19:47, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your edits! I agree that it has, but I worry that this will be a recurring problem if the page is not protected, as it is not the first time an edit war like this has taken place. --Bangalamania (talk) 19:48, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 19:06, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Article has been in fully-protected since more than two years because of repeated re-creation after WP:AFD and WP:PROMOTIONAL stuff. I find the actor has gained sufficient notability during the course of time and there exists WP:RS and plan to create the article from this draft. The protecting admin TomStar81 has semi-retired. Thank you. — Amkgp 💬 19:57, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: Request downgrade of protection from full protection to Extended-Confirmed protection. This title was cut down to a redirect and fully protected seven years ago due to repeated re-creation of articles on the child actor. The subject is no longer a child, and Draft:Dev Joshi has been submitted to AFC. Downgrade to ECP will permit an AFC reviewer to review, and to accept if and only if notable. Protecting admin User:SlimVirgin said to take this request to RFPP. Robert McClenon (talk) 03:58, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
