Revision as of 05:11, 26 September 2011

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP (64.180.38.59) frequently alter/remove this article content and stable revision(s) (The IP edits are disruptive edits). Please protects this page that only registered/auto confirmed accounts can edit it. . Gazaneh (talk) 05:11, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect repeated swarming of AfD by multiple single purpose editors. LibStar (talk) 00:06, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined We don't protect pages due to meat puppetry, but we do ignore votes by meat puppets. It has been tagged with {{notavote}}. causa sui (talk) 01:46, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
sorry but I have seen other admins protect AfDs in these circumstances. the anon IPs are disrupting the AfD and trying to dissuade other voters. LibStar (talk) 02:12, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Vandalism from multiple IPs.
    ⋙–Berean–Hunter—► 23:25, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: There seems to be a lot of 'reverting edits' and most of the edits that have been reverted are from IP Users. I think its best to semi-protect the page for a bit just to stabilize the article.--Dom497 (talk) 22:51, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Hi, This page has again been through attacks of vandalism. I kindly request the editors to protect it again indefinitely.

    Thanks. DBhuwanSurfer 22:31, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. There's no vandalism there at all--only a content dispute. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:32, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Long term semi-protection IPs adding very false information, hosts and categories for the 2012 show which is seven months away and has not had anything announced at all. There should be no need for new information to be added to this article for months, especially false information. Nate (chatter) 22:06, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:30, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Not sure if this is a perfect request since the vandalism is slow-paced, but it has been going on for ages now. Some ip editor has been vandalizing the page very regularly every 4 days. I think this is his attempt to gain a "not enough recent disruptive activity" decision in order to circumvent the page protection process. If page protection is not the answer then please direct me to a more appropriate venue. Cheers, -Thibbs (talk) 21:40, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. I reviewed the article's history and saw almost identical vandalism by numerous IP's going back to January 2011. Unless ClueBot NG can be trained to catch this particular bit of vandalism, I'm not sure I see a good long-term strategy other than permanent semi-protection (something which I'm not willing to do myself). If other admins disagree with a 2-week semi here, I won't take offence at being reverted as long as another reasonable strategy is proposed. Richwales (talk) 02:25, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: First off, you'd expect policy violations in an article that is titled this, wouldn't you? Second, I see a lot of vandalism. LikeLakers2 (talk | Sign my guestbook!) 21:23, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. There does appear to be vandalism, but it doesn't look too excessive right now. Please relist if vandalism escalates. Elockid (Talk) 23:45, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Possible BLP issues. Darkness Shines (talk) 21:01, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Protected, content dispute. Vsmith (talk) 21:17, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection: Requesting create protection, since it has been recreated thrice after three deletions. I know it still exists, but it should be create protected for repeated recreation. LikeLakers2 (talk | Sign my guestbook!) 20:37, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected by administrator Kinu. Elockid (Talk) 23:44, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – incessant vandalism to push POV, 3RR. StormContent (talk) 20:37, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Elockid (Talk) 23:43, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Very high levels of IP vandalism the last few days. The last protection was on August 21, 2011 and expired on September 21st. -- Luke (Talk) 19:41, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I realize this isn't Commons, but it might be good to get somebody's attention over there about File:Skrillex at Sasquatch 2011.jpg, which is being used on the above page and is also seeing some abuse. 98.244.11.25 (talk) 19:56, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 20:07, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect. IP and new (sock) account editing against consensus and refusing to discuss dispite invitations. 2 weeks should suffice. Niteshift36 (talk) 19:33, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Well, why not start a case at SPI? Check the revision history for the sock and IP. StormContent (talk) 20:19, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • The SPI was done quick (and the IP's involved blocked), but I still fail to see why temp protection should depend on the SPI. The editor used 2 IP's and a new account in the space of an hour or two. Would 2 weeks really hurt anything? Niteshift36 (talk) 21:24, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Edit warring between a few users regarding whether the Bible is divinely inspired. Some discussion is taking place on the talk page, but editors are continuing to revert each other. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 19:16, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Doesn't seem necessary, the involved editors have been informed not to editwar and are now engaged in dialogue with a rather large group of other editors. I don't think editwarring will be a problem now. ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 19:43, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection. Persistent vandalism and unsourced edits by IPs. It was protected three times this month already. Just like the Femme Fatale Tour, I think it should be protected for a longer time. Xwomanizerx (talk) 18:49, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection. Persistent vandalism and unsourced edits by IPs. The page was already protected twice this month for a period of one week each time. I believe it should be protected for longer, at least until the hype around the tour dies down a bit. Xwomanizerx (talk) 18:46, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection. Persistent vandalism from multiple disparate IPs. Mortifervm (talk) 20:40, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Full-protect. Edit-warring over the wording of the lead has broken out again. A similar conflict erupted around a year ago, and only a full-protect allowed editors to focus on working out the dispute on the talkpage without the revert-counterrevert animosity going on on the page itself. ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 16:59, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected indefinitely. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:26, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IPs vandalizing the article. Protect for probably for a couple of days. –HTD 14:23, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined - lots of good edits from IPs too. Let's try it a little longer? - Philippe 16:40, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's because no one was looking at the article when the IP barrage came in. I dunno even where to look for the right version to restore. When I found out the right version and tried to restore it, I was edit-conflicted for like 10 times, all but one of them vandalism (one tried to revert but it was also in a crappy version lol). –HTD 18:55, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect. Readding request. Regular addition of unsourced or poorly sourced material since page contents established. --¢ℓαяк (talk) 13:54, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect. A user has changed information on the page to incorrect information. Given the current discontent at Lehigh University over the mascot's name and function, this page should be semi-protected to make sure that "Mountain Hawk" is used as the Lehigh mascot, not the phased out "Engineer" mascot. Failure to watch this page might lead to more edits back to the old mascot, especially as the major football rivalry game in November become nearer. Sjh413 (talk) 01:52, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. One change to false information is not sufficient to justify semi-protection. If the problem does get worse, then please make a new request. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:10, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

This article was locked by the Wikimedia Foundation in January per WP:OFFICE and then placed under full protection in March. This was reduced to semiprotection in April. Since then the page has grown by 61 bytes in 7 edits. I think we should broaden access to this article to inject some life into it. It is still quite far from FA class and the more help editing the better. -Thibbs (talk) 01:13, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that this particular article has been the subject of vandalism several times requiring deletion and protection suggests that it may be worthy of a legitimate article; I was thinking of creating a stub as a soft redirect to the corresponding Wiktionary article, which has examples and an explanation of the meme. The last time this article was deleted was September 2007, and the last time the (still unprotected) talk page was deleted was January 2009, indicating a possible waning interest in vandalism, but the page could still be semi-protected. The guidelines here say to contact the protecting administrator before requesting unprotection, but there's a template on the edit page for this particular article that says not to do this, so I'm listing it here. B7T (talk) 01:02, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
