Revision as of 07:23, 25 November 2014

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – This and related articles were recently protected for a short time due to edit-warring. Almost immediately after expiration of protection edit-warring resumed, in the form of a new editor who appears to be a sockpuppet. While the editor is currently blocked for 24 hours, full protection for an extended period will hopefully maintain a stable, consistent version at all 5 articles while discussion is still underway. Fully protected Mike VTalk 05:29, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: We have had two attempts this month to create this article (against WP:NFF). Possible need for protection until filming begins, which is slated for March/April 2015. Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:59, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Mike VTalk 06:26, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Article protection expired on Nov 6th. IPv6-hopping editor who forced the protection of the article to begin appears to be back with these edits in which they replace 2014 with 2017 numerous times and remove sourced ratings content. Clear vandalism. User has historically been disruptive to other articles related to Gumball. It would be nice if page protection at this article matched page protection at the main article (I just reported it) so we don't have weirdly staggered protection dates. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:18, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Article protection expired yesterday, IPv6-hopping editor who forced the protection of the article to begin with appears to have noted this on their calendar. They're back with these subtly disruptive edits. They change the airdate of "The Dress" to September 19, 2011, when per this source (Select Season 1) the previous date May 23 was correct. User also adds Nielsen scores based on ratings data that isn't widely available to the public, which is suspicious. User is also disrupting other Gumball articles, which means I'm going to request page protection on those as well. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:14, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism rising from various IPs. Mostly involves changing the score and other fantasies, although one vandal I saw decided to change the lead image caption into Serbian (including Serbianising the name of Philipp Lahm) for some reason. Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IPs insist on changing Smash the Mirror to 8A and 8B despite discussion on the talk page and ABC confirming them to be two separate episodes. Ditto51 (My Talk Page) 15:44, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism by users replacing information about the Marvel Comics characters with information from the Disney movie that was loosely based on those characters.

Indefinite semi-protection: can someone here added a semi-protect to my talkpage. I don't like to receive any messages from IP users which just put an harassing message like this one, especially when I active reverting their vandalism. ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 13:15, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – User talk pages are not protected except in response to severe or continued vandalism. — MusikAnimal talk 03:27, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite pending changes: BLP policy violations – Mostly as Hermann has been a subject of an Internet meme depicting him as a prankster, and previous attempts at curbing antic-related vandalism have been done to little effect. Blake Gripling (talk) 13:11, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question: @Blakegripling ph: Which edits in particular are related to the meme? — MusikAnimal talk 03:27, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Googling for "Fegelein" or "Fegelein antics" yields results related to the Downfall parodies and how the subject is depicted. This revision, for example, refers to his role in the parodies as a prankster. I dunno if having the page PC'd would be appropriate for now, but if the situation warrants it, sure, go ahead. Blake Gripling (talk) 05:04, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Hello, could protect this article?. For several days being added speculative information without references. Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of promotional content from COI accounts and SPAs apparently affiliated or working on behalf of the subject. Blake Gripling (talk) 10:34, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Declined Warned user. — MusikAnimal talk 03:20, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Full protection: Content dispute/edit warring.

This article has been the subject of a multi-month edit war in which some editors are making dozens of edits per day (mainly partial or complete reversions of existing material), bickering about issues as trivial as whether the material formed by e-cigarettes is a "vapor" or an aerosol, and dragging one another into ANI in a retaliatory fashion. The article is edited scores of times a day with no notable improvement in the last 2 months, and a battleground mentality has clearly become very entrenched. Please do them all a favor by giving them all an enforced 1 or 2 week break from edit warring. Unlikely, but perhaps they will lose some of their emotional intensity while spending some time with their families instead of bickering with each other. Formerly 98 (talk) 08:56, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Question: Pinging Doc James if I may, since he's more familiar with what's going on. What are your thoughts? — MusikAnimal talk 03:08, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Might be a good idea to fully protect such that changes can only be made once consensus is achieved. 2 weeks would be a good place to start. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 04:27, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite move protection: Always substituted. George Ho (talk) 08:27, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reblock: Inappropriate use of user talk page while blocked – Spamming even after being blocked want the user to be reblocked with Talk page access removed. Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 07:35, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined, Talk page access revoked — MusikAnimal talk 03:03, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Europefan. Dennis Bratland (talk) 03:53, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. — MusikAnimal talk 03:01, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent deletion of cited negative content by IP address associated with Parent company. HyrumBeck (talk) 02:58, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was curious enough to look at this article when I saw it here, and it has had some serious problems. Reads like it was written by a disgruntled ex-student. I've made some edits to adjust some of these, but there is still a WP:SOAPBOX tone to the article. I have a long history of editing here, and have no relationship to the article subject. Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
