China Southwest Airlines

China Southwest Airlines (中国西南航空公司) was an airline based in the People's Republic of China. It merged into Air China in 2002.
The airline was head quartered at Chengdu, Sichuan. It also maintained a hub at Chongqing and was the sole carrier flying to Lhasa until 2002. Although it mainly served domestic routes within southwestern China and between southwestern China and the other regions in China, it also had limited international services to Bangkok, Chiangmai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Osaka and Seoul from its bases in southwestern China.
It operated a fleet of Boeing 737-300, Boeing 737-600, Boeing 737-800, Boeing 757-200 and Airbus A340-300 aircraft.

History
- On October 2, 1990, a hijacked Xiamen Airlines airliner sideswiped a China Southwest Airlines Boeing 707 before crashing into a third airliner. No people on the 707 died. See 1990 People's Republic of China airliner collision.
- On February 24 1999, Flight 4509 crashed into a field while on approach to Wenzhou Airport, killing all 61 passengers and crew members on board.
- On 28 October 2002, Air China consolidated with China National Aviation Corporation and China Southwest Airlines and the airline merged into Air China.
