Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 81.111.114.131 (talk) at 14:38, 26 May 2010 (→‎{{la|Emblem of the Comoros}}: link fix). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protect Multiple IPs attempting to vandalise the Featured Article over the last few days to various sections. 2 weeks semi-protect to discourage further vandalism?

    Icedaddycool (talk) 10:38, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note: I'm not seeing anything that's clearly vandalism or disruptive. Can you give some examples? SlimVirgin talk contribs 11:50, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection for Template:Track listing (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) (along with Template:Track listing/Track (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)), due to high-risk level usage (10k+ articles) and a respective request on its talk page. – Cyrus XIII (talk) 14:16, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection, Article seems to have protected due to "BLP issues" for a long time. Perhaps we should try unprotecting? I have already contacted the admin who protected the article and he told me to bring it here. 120.28.124.4 (talk) 03:41, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotected and I've watchlisted to keep an eye on it. GedUK  07:59, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Template:User WikiProject Kosovo (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Unprotection, Template seems to have protected due to "disputes" for a long time. Perhaps we should try unprotecting?. Feinoha Talk, My master 19:44, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

May I suggest you contact Grutness (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA)? I'm reluctant to go riding roughshod over other admins' actions at the best of times, but even more so on a controversial topic like that. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:11, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Has there been any attempt to resolve the dispute? I'm not finding anything on the talk page, or the WikiProject's talk page. Bradjamesbrown (talk) 10:49, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've asked the protecting admin to comment here. Bradjamesbrown (talk) 12:00, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, you can unprotect, but it's worth keeping an eye on it to see whether it needs reprotecting. Note that the form of this template was decided by consensus among the WikiProject concerned after considerable wrangling, and it is a very controversial area, so any changes are likely to be reverted. As for any discussion about this dispute, some of this is a spillover from Template:Kosovo-stub, and the talk page of that has matters relating to this template. Grutness...wha? 23:39, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected I've lowered this to a semi. I'm a little reluctant to unprotect fully, but if another admin wants to change it down further, then I'm fine with that. Will watchlist as well to keep an eye on it. GedUK  08:01, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    FC Timişoara (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Declined. Protection is due to expire today at 21:18 UTC. SlimVirgin talk contribs 13:22, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Emblem of the Comoros (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary Full protection. The article was moved to National seal of the Comoros, so one would think the old article should direct to the new. Yet, an unregistered user continues to redirect to Flag of the Comoros without giving a reason. On my talk page, the editor pasted info claiming my edit summaries are inaccurate, despite his being completely blank as to why he continues to revert. He also pasted info about naming conventions to use common name, though emblem as far as I know and found never means flag but means a pictorial device, seal or coat of arms. [tk] XANDERLIPTAK 04:13, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Warned user. Report the IP to WP:AIV if the disruptive editing continues. -FASTILY (TALK) 04:52, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Seeing that the reversion continued, and that this is a content dispute, not vandalism, I've protected the article after all and will ask the parties to sort this out. Amalthea 12:24, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The reason for this change is entirely explained in the page move discussion. I'm not prepared to engage in further discussion. User:Xanderliptak needs to accept that this particular horse is dead. 81.111.114.131 (talk) 14:38, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

William Tecumseh Sherman (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Indefinite semi-protection This is a feature article, yet it is constantly vandalized (often with sexual overtones). Indeed, today, a vandal reverted the edit that had reverted his vandalism. Allowing this vandalism wastes Wikipedia money and, worse, wastes the time and energy of community members. This article should have indefinite semi-protection, as do the articles about Lincoln and Grant. Hartfelt (talk) 00:15, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected indefinite granted - has been protected on and off over the past few years (mostly on). Casliber (talk · contribs) 00:35, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Sureños (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, I have both this article and the Norteños articles on my watchlist for vandal patrol. Among the few hundred articles I watchlist, these two stand out at the very top for being magnets for AnonIP vandalism. There is a real need for more editors to watchlist these two articles, because we are just not keeping up with the AnonIP activity. Alternately, they could be semi-protected. SaltyBoatr get wet 22:39, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
