Hello Tompw. I was looking your graph of passenger numbers over time. Do you still have the spreadsheet with the numbers in so that it can be regenerated in a vector format. The spreadsheet is also the "source code" of the graph and should allow easy re-creation when more years of data become available. (Soon it looks like passenger numbers may exceed those in the 1950s blip! Many thanks. —Sladen (talk) 14:08, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I put the dataset on the image page. Journeys for 2007/07 (labelled as 2007) were the highest since 1946... there was a big jump of 7.6%, taking things well above the 1950s bump. I also have data for passenger-km if you think that would be useful graph to have. (The data for that only goes back to 1946... 2006/7 saw 46.5bn, the hoghest since 1946's record of 47.0). Portals

Maths portals

I responded on my talk page. I also created Portal:Number theory and Portal:Discrete mathematics. I transferred some selected articles from topology to discrete mathematics. Since the number of portals grow, we'll have to modify Portal:Mathematics/RelatedPortals, maybe this way ? CenariumTalk 13:31, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem with overlaps, it also depends on the number of selectable articles in topology. You can work on number theory too. I'm not very experienced in templates, I created Portal:Number theory/Topics based on Portal:Set theory/Topics, and I'd like to link List of number theory topics. I think that Portal:Mathematics/RelatedPortals is nice like this. I'm not sure that the tab-based system can be implemented in a portal. CenariumTalk 14:59, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the background colour of Portal:Category theory/box-header. I'd like to keep blue-based colours for category theory. Change the colours of Number Theory and Discrete as you like. CenariumTalk 17:04, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the colours of category theory. Yeah, I like category theory and logic, but topology and algebra also, mathematical physics is interesting. I'm not specialized yet. CenariumTalk 18:02, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User:Tompw/bookshelf

Kudos to you for User:Tompw/bookshelf ... truly excellent magic. But you don't appear to consider the size implications of images, nor do you have a note noting this. I'm sure you've thought about the image issue, but tell me: we can presumably make an assumption or stipulation about the print size of images, but do we have a clue about the average number of images per article? And is it worth the candle to go in this direction & recalculate the size including images? --Tagishsimon (talk) 18:54, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of National Football League team season lists

I have nominated National Football League team season lists, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/National Football League team season lists. Re:Congressional districts of Arkansas

Arkansas' is not grammatically correct. 1) An apostrophe has no pronunciation, so "Arkansas' districts" is pronounced the same as "Arkansaw districts." (Arkansaw to reflect the odd pronunciation of the name). That is wrong. To be pronounced "Arkansaw's districts" there must be an additional s. There is no difference what letter the noun ends with. Follow the very simple rule of possessives: when making any singular noun possessive, add an apostrophe-s; when making a plural noun that already end in s possessive, simply add an apostrophe. For irregular plurals that do not end in s, add an apostrophe-s. These are singular nouns and should always add an apostrophe-s. It is better to write Mr. Jones's (Joneses) rather than Mr. Jones' (Jones); the latter is still accepted because it phonetically makes sense as the s in the word is already pronounced, unlike Arkansas, but the the former is better because it is more clear. 2) The only times that you may leave off the s are for Biblical or Classical names such as Jesus' and Moses'. The only exceptions are historical, which I disagree with but is generally accepted. 3) To be correctly consistent with with other articles. We have Texas's 1st congressional district and Kansas's congressional districts, which both need the additional s because the final s is pronounced differently, and because of the rule of possessives. 5) Per WP:MOS, please do not change widely accepted, pre-set styles without a reason. 6) Per WP:MOS, including the extra s is correct. In short, they are correct with the additional s, although they are often incorrectly accepted without it, and there is no need to move an established name. Thanks for understanding and happy editing, Reywas92Talk 23:50, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Massachusetts's is correct, but because the s is pronounced, unlike Texas and the others, Massachusetts' is considered acceptable. Thanks, Reywas92Talk 15:44, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I think I found a small error on your bookshelf page. When volumes is n*200+x for 100<x<199, then mistakenly one stack200 is shown too much. This results from the statement:

( {{/volumes}}/200 round 0 )

295 for example results in 1, while 301 results in 2. In the latter case the template is not supposed to give 2, because two stack200's are too much. The problem is, that round will not always round down, but up (depending on if the number is >0.5 or <0.5). I suggest the following fix: Replace the string above by:

( ({{/volumes}}-100)/200 round 0 )

This fixes the problem. See as examples broken, fixed, diff. Thanks, --Church of emacs (Talk) 13:12, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can I ask why this big block of links is really necessary on the portal? It takes up a lot of room on my screen, and frankly seems a little redundant. It also puts the columns fairly out of whack. Apterygial 22:50, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Translated graphs

Hello there Tompw,

The French-language Wikipedia articles concerning election results in Canada lack something comparable to the good graphs you have done in English. I propose to help you translate them all into French. I see three ways to proceed: 1) we could translate the captions, giving us a pair of images in each case, 2) we could "bilingualize" the captions or 3) we could take the captions out. I would advise the third option, since the captions can easily be placed outside the image (and in fact they are in every single case at the moment) and this option would require the least amount of effort on your part. Also, if you do not have the time right now, I could take your Excel sheets and do it myself. I do not have Ms Excel, but most likely OpenOffice Calc will allow me to do something close if not identical.

Thanks! -- Mathieugp (talk) 16:06, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for noticing. The only weak point right now is the referencing in the lead. There are a lot of statements about history that aren't quite fully covered by the sparse in-line citations included. Would be happy to have either you or me nominate it (don't really care so long as it gets FL) but would like to take care of that first. Say a day or two to find the sources? On a related issue regarding Category:British railway stations opened in 1829 as an example, it might be better to use the format Category:Railway stations in the United Kingdom opened in 1829 for consistency with Category:Railway stations in the United Kingdom. British railway stations is a bit awkward and doesn't really fit nicely within the existing category structure. In the fomat Category:Railway stations in the United Kingdom opened in 1829, each category could go in a new Category:Railway stations in the United Kingdom by year of establishment (for consistency with Category:Railway stations by year of establishment) and Category:Railway stations opened in 1829.
I would welcome your thoughts on this, and I'd be happy to work with you to change this if you agreed. Adambro (talk) 14:26, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

List of Nunavut general elections

I think the best way of expanding the lead would be to offer some interesting facts on those who have been elected. Things like the total number of people elected, legislators who have won multiple terms, and the two men who have won in all three elections would all be nice additions. They would provide a nice summary of what is actually in the list, not to mention that you could probably get another paragraph out of them. If there is anything noteworthy about any of the elections in particular, it would also be a good candidate to be discussed in the lead. Giants2008 (27 and counting) 21:53, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the number of stacks in the various "how big is Wiki in printed books" graphics is missing a stack. It's currently 1634 volumes, which should be eight full stacks, plus a partial ninth stack. It's displaying seven full stacks plus a partial eighth. I believe the problem is with the calculation in User:Tompw/bookshelf/stacks. It's currently:

{{ #expr:  {{User:Tompw/bookshelf/volumes}}/200 round 0}}

It should probably be something like

{{ #expr:  ceil({{User:Tompw/bookshelf/volumes}}/200)}}

(I think I did the conversion of braces correctly, but if the above has ended up with a missing or extra brace, I apologize in advance.)

The round function is not what you'd really want. Round would convert 300-499 books (1.500 to 2.495 stacks) to 2, and 500-699 books (2.500 to 3.495 stacks) to 3. Ceil will get the next highest integer. Thus 1.005 through 2.000 (201-400 books) would get 2, but 2.005 through 3.000 (401-600 books) would get 3.

Likewise, the calculation in User:Tompw/bookshelf/volumes, should probably be changed from:

{{#expr:({{NUMBEROFARTICLES:R}}/(500*2*2*80*50/(6*562)) round 0) + 1}}
{{#expr:ceil({{NUMBEROFARTICLES:R}}/(500*2*2*80*50/(6*562)))}}

Although that's only going to be off a book at worst.

I haven't quite traced through how the partial stack gets drawn, so I'm not sure if there's an impact there or not.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Bathampton railway station, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bath (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I was wondering what to do with this article. Technically a list can not be a Good article. You may want to move it back to Delaware counties. I started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Featured list candidates#Number of items in a list to see if it could be nominated as a list, but it doesn't look too positive. Would be interested in your opinion as you are the main contributor. AIRcorn (talk) 22:20, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is ready to nominate. I have never done one so you might want to do it. I will help with any fixes that I can. AIRcorn (talk) 12:07, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I will leave it for you. I don't know how much help I can be as i am not overly familiar with the topic (although I went to Delaware once so probably more than many non-Americans). I don't know how it will go, but it looks as good as the other county lists with featured status (the nomination of two in a row might help too). I will delist it before you nominate so it does not get the "but it is a Good article opposes". AIRcorn (talk) 03:36, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

List of counties in West Virginia

Hello- I have nominated List of Counties in West Virginia for Featured List status. While I was updating the list, I of course noted your helpful links on County lists and their criteria for making a FL status. Could you take a look at List_of_counties_in_West_Virginia or its FL page and let me know where I could improve or (gasp) actually support? Many thanks for your attentionCoal town guy (talk) 21:36, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bowness, Forest Lawn and Montgomery

Hi Tompw, I have started a discussion here about splitting the respective neighbourhood articles for the above into separate articles for the neighbourhoods and for the former towns. Looking at histories, it was you who moved Bowness, Alberta to Bowness, Calgary. Your consideration and input would be appreciated. Cheers, Hwy43 (talk) 07:30, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There's a RFC at to talk:List of Israeli cities#RfC: Are Israeli settlements Israeli cities? about weather the articles inclusion of Israeli settlements (with city status) as "Israeli cities" in this context original research, or otherwise problematic. I'm telling you this because you were a participant at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Israeli cities where, by my understanding, it was decided to call them "Israeli cities" and the purpose of the RFC is to review that decision. Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Union Pearson Express may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "()"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Re: WOOOOOOOOOO

I'm not sure if this is a bug, but it's not showing up for me when I go to the redirects for discussion page. And yes, I've tried clearing my cache. Carrot official (talk) 03:59, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Do I need to add it to the RfD page manually, or should it show up automatically? Carrot official (talk) 04:05, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That was why I marked it for discussion in the first place. Also, I'm a little bit new here, so thanks for letting me know. :) Carrot official (talk) 04:10, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a shorthand for a template for an RfD entry? (Similar to four tildes on a talk page) Carrot official (talk) 04:16, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

review

Hi. You left me a message saying you reviewed the page on Johnnie L. Cochran middle school. Immediately after that, it was aggressively attacked by a few users saying that middle schools are rarely notable. The article is gone and the name was redirected back to the school district. (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Johnnie_L._Cochran_Jr._Middle_School&oldid=750732652)

As you didn't make that comment when you reviewed the page, I am wondering how all this works. Are they correct? Or is this all just opinion? Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Phatnblak (talk) 01:09, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
