CamV8, you are invited to the Teahouse
[edit]Hi CamV8! Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. |
Italics (or something?)
[edit]Hi CamV8. Thanks for the work you're doing editing various pages, suggesting changes etc. Would you mind italicising quotes from the pages though, like this so it is easier to see where your quotes start and stop? I found your comments on the Alan Jones talk page a little hard to work out at first. you can italicise by putting a pair of apostrophes either side of the quote, ''like this''. A dn again, thanks for your constructive suggestions on various pages that i watch (and others). WotherspoonSmith (talk) 13:05, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Brewarrina article
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
The Brewarrina article title is Brewarrina, New South Wales. I note that this was changed several years ago just in case there was another Brewarrina. How can I change the title back to Brewarrina as there is only one?— Preceding unsigned comment added by CamV8 (talk • contribs) 02:11, 05 February 2013 (UTC)
- If it was normal disambiguation it would be a straightforward switch, but this isn't disambiguation, this is naming conventions. You will notice Nyngan, New South Wales and Byrock, New South Wales are the same, and many more probably are too. If Brewarrina was going to be moved, they would all need to be moved. If you want to start a discussion on this, I suggest doing it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia. -- Patchy1

- HI CamV8. Patchy1 has a good point. We had similar discussions around the Dubbo article a few years back (because there is an LGA of Dubbo distinct from the city of Dubbo). Brewarrina, New South Wales is a different creature from Brewarrina Shire- the naming convention is consistent with others in Wikipedia. Sometimes the standalone article looks different to how we'd name it if it wasn't part of a bigger encyclopedia, but the current name makes sense when looked at in that context. Speedy deletion nomination of Two Foot Skiff
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Two Foot Skiff requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Nimuaq (talk) 15:36, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
citation needed usage
[edit]Hi, CamV8. I noticed your edits (1 and 2) to Enclave and exclave that added {{cn}} tags. To add the month and year to the template, use, for example, {{citation needed|date=April 2013}}. Without the "date=" part, the date displays as a tooltip rather than the default tooltip that explains to readers what the tag means. You can also use a "reason=" parameter to add a reason that overrides the default tooltip. Cheers, Jason Quinn (talk) 05:40, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
Your submission at Articles for creation
[edit]The article has been assessed as Stub-Class, which is recorded on the article's talk page. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.
You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for Creation if you prefer.

Invitation
[edit]There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.
As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! Lankiveil (speak to me) 07:14, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Your draft article, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Two Foot Skiff
[edit]Hello CamV8. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Two Foot Skiff".
The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply {{db-afc}}
or {{db-g13}}
code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.
If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Two Foot Skiff}}
, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

In history, locate the multiple entries. You can click 'edit' at any of them, make any corrections or additions you like, and save the article. It may be desirable, even for vandal edits, to pick up any missing work on the article and do it, of which inform the author on his/her talk page.
- (Rollback is meant to make this routine task easier, but standards for using it are — currently — set too low; most often than not, a minute wasted figuring things out will result in both an article improvement, and encourage something positive in the original contributor who made an edit.)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Department of Finance and Services (New South Wales), and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.finance.nsw.gov.au/about-us.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) CorenSearchBot (talk) 02:24, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
Specifically the website allows reuse non-commercially (see), but Wikipedia content license is more free than that. —Gryllida (talk) 09:40, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
(Moved) Gday, The new article for Department of Finance and Services (New South Wales) seems to have some potential copyright issues. Could you please point out what content is a problem. Or just delete the problem bits. Thanks CamV8 (talk) 10:10, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
The above messages imply there is a direct quote in the article somewhere. It took me 30 seconds to see that it is «It is responsible for supporting sustainable government finances, ... and metropolitan water policy.». Gryllida (talk) 22:26, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

List of atheists in politics and law
[edit]Regarding your removal of Julia Gillard from the list of atheists in politics and law: Despite looking through the archives of the Gillard talk page, I remain somewhat puzzled. She said herself, clearly and explicitly, that she does not believe in God. That is exactly what being an atheist means. The fact that she is an atheist is beyond dispute. (It is to her credit both that she has said it without feeling intimidated, and that she has not made a big thing of it in relation to her functions as PM, as befits the leader of a secular state.) So I don't see where the controversy is supposed to be… Aridd (talk) 16:34, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Changes made on the article Sydney
[edit]Recently, I've noticed that you had removed large amount of the section of North Shore and the reason you gave was that it was uncited content. However if you had even bothered to read the main article, you would find that it is correct. I have now manually reverted the the page and if you feel that you need to discuss the question of validity, please feel free to post on my talk page. Cheers, Dark-World25 (talk) 02:59, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Dark-World25: Content must be sourced appropriately and other Wikipedia articles cannot be used as references. Citations need to be added to the page where the content is located. This means that sources must be added to Sydney, not some other page. --AussieLegend (✉) 14:46, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Colt vs AR-15 style rifle
[edit]CamV8, I didn't want you to think I'm just trying to revert your edits. Do keep in mind that DS apply to the Colt AR-15 page but what I actually wanted to do was encourage you to bring the content discussion here [[2]]. While the rifle appears to be an AR-15 pattern rifle, unless it actually is a "Colt" brand rifle it shouldn't be added to the Colt page. The AR-15 style page includes discussions of shootings with generic AR-15s as well as the controversies associated with the rifle. I think that would be an appropriate place for this content. The article on the shooting links to the AR-15 style rifle page [[3]]. I hope that explains why I reverted your edits. Take care! Springee (talk) 13:55, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
Just wanted to complement you on the Australian Gun Laws article. I know we didn't agree on the one section but overall I think you are doing a great job and the article is better for your efforts! Springee (talk) 12:47, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
Overview of Gun Laws by Nation
[edit]Apologies for my rudeness when editing the article without providing any citacions. https://www.police.qld.gov.au/programs/weaponsLicensing/acquiringWeapons/antiques/ This outlines the Queensland antique firearms law in regards to licensing registration. I changed that column to 'Varies' because the NFA is non-binding and although every state roughly abides by it, laws do differ (as shown with QLD). I believe this also clarifies why I changed the "Free of checks" column to varies as well, although I am unsure of the terminology. https://www.police.qld.gov.au/programs/weaponsLicensing/licenceApplication/licences/collectors/default.htm This page also outlines that possession of automatic weapons is legal provided the person has a Category R license. That is why I changed the "Fully automatic" firearms column to "May Issue - Restricted" as these seem to be rarely issued. As far as I am aware every state has this and I am happy to send links from other states as well. As for the "unlimited magazine" column, I am unfortunately unable to locate a correct source detailing a lack of limits on magazine capacity, however no state applies restrictions on Category A & B firearms on their firearms category page.
I again apologize for my foul behavior. I was just frustrated since we don't actually have federal laws and didn't want to link sources for every state, but it turns out that isn't too hard. The2016 (talk) 12:36, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
Shall issue – subject to fulfillment of legal conditions, the authorities may not deny license and/or firearm(s)
May issue – the authorities have final say in whether a person may obtain a license and/or firearm(s)
This is also debatable. According to most state governments, provided you have fulfilled the legal conditions, you are entitled to possess a Category A firearms license and will be granted one accordingly. The2016 (talk) 12:45, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
https://www.police.qld.gov.au/programs/weaponsLicensing/licenceApplication/licences/firearms/default.htm and https://www.police.qld.gov.au/forms/weaponslicensing.asp These pages states sufficient evidence is only required for Category C & D firearms, and that provided the legal conditions are met, you will be granted a license. Dunno if that helps (sorry for the replies but I can't edit my first one) The2016 (talk) 12:52, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/online_services/firearms/licences/suspension_refusal_revocation_of_a_licence_or_permit/frequently_asked_questions_-_suspension_refusal_and_revocation#hedrev1 See here as well. This would make it shall issue under the article's definition. I think the state laws should be thoroughly mapped according to their individual restrictions and not just throw together in one thing since they all have different regulations and stipulations.
