Hello, I have been retained as a consultant by the family of Mr. Dach to look into the article you created about him, and while I respect that you put serious work into it, I have very strong concerns that the article is essentially a WP:COATRACK and unsalvageable as a biographical entry as I believe this is a classic WP:BLP1E situation. Thanks for your note, WWB Too. While I appreciate your client's opinion, I disagree the entry about him violates our WP:BLP policies. Based on your post to the noticeboard it appears your firm has been retained as a reputation management consultancy specifically to ensure the entry's deletion from WP. While I believe the entry meets all of our BLP policies for neutral point-of-view, notability, and citability, Dach is undoubtedly a marginal figure and I probably won't put too much energy into objecting to details of his story being purged from the public record. I'll leave a note outlining my objections to your firm's proposals at the appropriate noticeboard but probably won't be too involved in it beyond that. Request reason:

• As per reason #1 of my block, I should have indicated on Coffee's Talk page that Fram indicated he wanted to get me off WP DYK, not WP (as indicated by Fram's repeated statements in DYK, including this one in which Ritchie333 recommends Fram "drop the stick" against me [1]), an error for which I acknowledge. During this interaction I was out of town and typing from a phone. [2] I am sorry for this error by me and apologize unreservedly to Fram for saying "WP" instead of "WP DYK". * The second reason regarded me inserting what a source claimed [3]. Obviously it wasn't a very good source and I made a mistake but I question whether an editor sourcing a bad fact constitutes an attempt to perpetrate a "hoax." After it was removed, I did not edit war it or make any attempt to reinsert it. There is nothing in my whole contribution history of creating quality articles that suggests I have ever attempted to insert a "hoax" and I should be given GF benefit of doubt this was an error. What motivation would I have for creating a hoax stair running record? If we start blocking editors anytime they make a typo or make a one-off error in RS evaluation, this place is gonna be deserted pretty fast. * As for point #3 I never "introduced a hoax" nor even introduced one byte of content on that article at all. As per the blocking admin's own diff, he's blocked me for registering a !vote in a DYK retraction discussion about something written by Nvvchar and promoted by Cwmhiraeth. As per the article's edit history, I have not made a single edit to it. [4] How can I be blocked for inserting a hoax into an article I've never edited? When is it okay to block editors for expressing WrongThought in their !votes in Talk page discussions? (A !vote I absolutely stand by and am happy to explain my content-based rationale for, as I was doing before I was blocked.) I don't believe in the claim that blocks for Contempt of Admin actually occur, and don't believe this is a case of one. Talk page watcher chiming in to say that I'm with Lava and this is looking like a bad block to me. The only misconduct is claiming that Fram was threatening them. The real error ("hoax") on the stairway article was the claim that it is over a mile long, and with the correct distance of 1300 feet, the time is reasonable. The third claim seems to be "making things up", like at the end of his unblock request, "(A !vote I absolutely stand by and am happy to explain my content-based rationale for, as I was doing before I was blocked.)" Perhaps LavaBaron can show where he was "explaining his content-based rationale" for the Roya Sadat hook, as I don't see any reply he made about that article and that discussion after his initial !vote, not at WT:DYK#Prep 3: the many awards of Roya Sadat, not at Talk:Roya Sadat, not at Template:Did you know nominations/Roya Sadat, Alka Sadat and not at the WP:AN discussion. Between his !vote at the DYK discussion on 14.16, 23 June and the block on 12.39, 24 June, he made 23 other edits (rough count), none of them explaining his content-based rationale. While he didn't edit the article, he tried to defend the hook by making things up, just like he tried to defend his own hooks by making things up (claiming that a source supported him, when it actually contradicted him). Please let me have an uncluttered unblock request, Fram. You've previously been cautioned by other admins to drop the stick [[5]].

We all have different opinions on how sources should be contextualized and interpreted. Expressing a minority opinion on a Talk page has, until now on WP, not = "you're making things up - one month block". To your question, I stopped replying and disengaged from that discussion because it was clear consensus was against my opinion (not because I was acknowledging I was "making things up") - there was no need for me to participate further. When I'm in the minority on a discussion I pack-up and move on; I don't stay to fight to the savage, bitter end like the last stand of Masada. Right here [6]. In that, I noted there were other descriptions of awards received (see the last paragraph the editor wrote here: [7]) which, in my opinion (with which you're free to disagree), were sufficient for validation of the hook.

• That said, Fram, this is a content discussion appropriate for a free and open dialog on Talk in which people who have minority viewpoints can express them without facing threat of a block. I shouldn't have to validate my opinions as a condition of unblock; doing nothing more making a single 19-word post expressing a topical content opinion to a Talk page is not the disruption which the Block function was designed to arrest, even if the opinion expressed does disagree with that of an Admin.
• Second, you've been told to "drop the stick" by other admins but continue to pick at this scab. I want to keep my unblock request concise and clear for benefit of the reviewing party. With that in mind I must, regretfully, request you cease all posts to my Talk page effective this post. I will be happy to lift this request when the current matter is resolved. I hope you understand this is not intended to be punitive or adversarial. Thanks for your patience.

That's what I thought... You didn't explain your content-based rationale, you stated it without any evidence and didn't respond to a request to explain it. The diff you give here is your first and only edit about that DYK. Furthermore, you now point to an edit at Alka Sadat as justification for a DYK claim about Roya Sadat, so the supposed evidence is not even in the same article or about the same person (and the edit was made after I pulled the hook in the first place). This is not a content discussion, this is all evidence that you are not fit to review or comment on DYK. As long as you are presenting such dubious "evidence" in an unblock request for a case I'm also involved with, I will continue to indicate the problems with what you say. • Oppose block I believe that blocking LavaBaron for a month is quite disproportionate to any misdemeanors committed and that there was no intention by him of the introduction of a hoax into an article. LavaBaron is a productive writer of new articles. He is not always respectful of other editors and can be irritating, but a block for the present "offences" is out of proportion and unnecessary. AN thread closure

Hello LavaBaron. The AN thread regarding a prospective topic ban from DYK has been closed, with restrictions issued as follows:[9]

1. A DYK article nomination or hook submitted by LavaBaron must be reviewed and accepted by 2 other editors before it may be promoted.
2. Any DYK nomination reviewed by LavaBaron must also be reviewed and accepted by 1 other editor before it may be promoted.
3. Any additional reviews by other editors, which are mandated by this restriction, shall count towards the QPQ of that editor.
4. (To balance the maths) For each article submitted by LavaBaron to DYK, 2 QPQ reviews by LavaBaron are required, at least 1 of which shall be a nomination that had not yet been accepted by another editor.
5. These restrictions shall initially last for a period of 3 months. At the end of the period, this restriction shall be reviewed.

Deryck - thank you for your clear and detailed closing description. One point of clarification - is it correct to say I am not responsible for the actions of other editors who choose to violate these restrictions? That is, if someone promotes a nomination submitted by me which only one other editor has accepted will the promoting editor be responsible or will I be responsible? Alternatively, if I conduct a QPQ review of a hook and someone promotes that hook with no second review, will I be responsible or will the promoting editor be responsible? Thank you for pointing this out. I've updated the AN closing statement to clarify that everybody's responsible, although you should make reasonable effort to let people know your nominations require a second review. A small notice like Require second reviewer per this at the end of a nomination or first review may be appropriate.

I have also posted on T:TDYK, WT:DYK, and the user talk pages of all admins on the DYK regular list, to let them know about this restriction.

As for the block log, I think redaction of block logs are generally not done per Wikipedia:Revision_deletion#Log_redaction. An editor looking at your block log will see Nyttend's "I misunderstood something" and understand that you were mistakenly blocked. Deryck C. 14:12, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

The problem you'll face is that you won't be able to have a clean start (and, if you intend to edit again, you're not eligible to be vanished) because you're under active restrictions; if you start a new account you'll have to link the two (I mean; that's fine, no problems with that as a thing to do) otherwise it might be considered evasion. Personal Attacks

Incorrect. The CNN article source literally has "opinion" in the hyperlink. (http://edition.cnn.com/2015/09/21/opinions/bergen-muslim-religious-tolerance/) The Daily Beast article is also an opinion piece by a contributing columnist, not a reporter. The Reason article was written by Dave Weigel, who had to resign from the Washington Post in 2010 after his nasty biased comments about conservatives on the JournoList were leaked. My point is that it's not all media that are critical of Gaffney - you just make it seem like it by sourcing only those media that confirm your biases about him - and perhaps conservatives in general. But, we can discuss and argue about all of this. What I can't argue against are the extremely bilious hostility and personal aspersions from you. Do you really think that the 21 people who have disagreed with you and pointed out what they consider to be your bias are all really one guy being paid off by Gaffney? That's what's called, dare I say it, a conspiracy theory. Look, my edit history is wide open for you to see, so let me tell you something about myself. I love Wikipedia. I've surfed it every night in bed before going to sleep for the past few years - mostly very ancient history and geology articles. I have definitely learned a lot. I'm a stickler for grammar so a few years ago, I started making little grammar edits on the articles I read - first without an account, and then through Ocdgrammarian. Recently, I've gotten interested in providing some more substantial contributions. I made a page for a professor friend at MIT - Eduardo Kausel - who, coincidentally, is a prominent scientific debunker of the 9/11 Truther "jet fuel can't bring down a building" conspiracy theory. I made balancing edits to a page for an organization that I follow locally in Boston. Through that organization, I heard Gaffney speak in the Boston area. Yes, I'm a conservative and, yes, I think Gaffney has a lot of important things to say. I also think he's said some controversial things, and that getting this history across in the Gaffney article could have been done in a much less obviously biased way. But, given how highly I'd thought of Wikipedia, I never expected to be accused by a Wikipedia editor of a conspiracy where I'm being paid off by Gaffney to make your life tedious. It's very disappointing - I really did not realize the nastiness that happens behind the scenes here. I'm going back to my history and geology articles and will stay away from the "mean girls club," but, thanks to you, those articles will be just a little less fun to read. This seems like the most relevant section, so rather than starting a new one I'll chime in here. In cases where you see a lot of articles that you believe to be inappropriate and worthy of deletion, it's often best to try one or two at AfD, rather than noting a slew of them at once. That avoids people having to cast redundant !votes, gives you a good lay of the land, and lets you know if you've overlooked something common to those multiple nominations. Fine, you're claiming the highest view non lead hook with only one linked item. This comment on the DYK [[10]] is just absurd. It was really obvious that the nominator had linked the wrong article especially as it did not match the title of the DYK and the nominator had incorrectly labelled it a creation/expansion. We shouldn't take a "Computer says no" approach to reviewing especially towards those who have nominated few articles at DYK. I fear that because of your editing restriction, you don't value your own reviews as they always have to be seconded so are not putting enough effort into them. Hi LavaBaron. I see you've reviewed Template:Did you know nominations/Elizabeth Lachlan a second time "per recently established requirements", supposedly at ANI. I glanced at ANI and couldn't see anything in the titles, and there's no way I'm going digging for it, can't stand ANI. So please make sure you're linking to the "recently established requirements". That said, I did pop over to T:DYK, where I found your recently established requirements, that your nominations require two reviews, and your reviews require a second confirmation review.

It looks to me that you're rebelling against your new editing restrictions by acting as if it applies to everyone, which it doesn't - it's a personal editing restriction for you. I suggest you either explain what I'm missing or stop the behaviour. Worm^TT(talk) 10:02, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

Nothing applies "to everyone" and I have made no claim anything does. I have said exactly what I mean: per recently established requirements at ANI, two reviews are required and I am required to prominently and clearly announce this whenever I enter a DYK review. I can see what has happened, I do believe it's a miscommunication - you said that the nomination "required" two reviews, while in actually you require two reviews.
