Tonight Is Goodbye

[edit]

I noticed you have deleted the page for Tonight Is Goodbye, I just wondered what criteria it was deleted under, and what I would have to do to prevent it being deleted if I remade it. Ad94dug (talk) 20:19, 5 August 2008 (BST)

Thanks for the reply, I am working my way through google links for all notable information on the band. I am also in the process of getting info from the band directly, through myspace, can I use this as a source? Ad94dug (talk) 00:31, 7 August 2008 (BST)

MVAPICH

what is the problems with the notability issues on this page. we are non-commercial and our software is free-available. The software is made as a pure research project by the Ohio state University. I work for the lab and upon my professors request i am editing an entry for MVAPICH.. Please help me narrow down the issue on the MVAPICH page so i can follow the proper guidelines to contribute to Wikipedia.org

The Great Sausage War of 2008

[edit]

Basically, there was an article on kishka sausages with the last edit Nov. 15 see here [1]. On Dec. 2 a Wikipedian came across the article and found the descriptions didn't comport with their understanding of what a kishke is, so he or she made a series of edits resulting in the article being about the Jewish kishke (and only the Jewish kishke) see here [2]. Low level guerilla warfare ensued (not really but I like to dramatize). No amount of accomodation and reason being sufficient to appease those insisting kishke can't include blood or pork (see kosher), I gave in and copied their version of the article to a new article kishka (Jewish food) and restored an improved and enhanced version of the more general kishka (food) article. I updated the disambiguation page, and now things seem mostly calm. Let me know if you have any other questions. The main article had a much longer edit history so that's why I kept it there and split off the Dec. 2 kishka (Jewish food) article. I don't really understand how to merge or update histories, so I apologize if I did something wrong.ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:49, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Next time I will try to say where the new article is from in the article creation edit summary. I guess I didn't do that in this case? Sorry about that. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:52, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Although as I look at the history it does say it was created to "disambiguate" the other article. Do you have a suggestion on how it should have been phrased? Split from? ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:53, 12 December 2008 (UTC)kht[reply]
Sorry for the confusion. Next time I will try to make it clearer what's being split from where. Thanks for your civility and efforts to make Wikipedia better. Much appreciated. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:06, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MVAPICH/MVAPICH2

[edit]

Thanks for the reply. I want to explain my case clearly. The software is notable and i do not have conflict of interest since this is a purely research based software and non-profit and part of THE Ohio state University.

These are pointers to few article over last 7 years that talks about how MVAPICH provides low latency and high bandwith for supercomputers using Infiniband, RDMA interconnects. One of other similar software implementations to MVAPICH are MPICH and Openmpi. MVAPICH is part of the ofed stack which is a notable third party software.

I have made so many edits over the past month ..but i still dont seem to have all the wikipedia laws straight. List of its current registered users- http://mvapich.cse.ohio-state.edu/current_users/ Its totally opensource research software used by hundreds of institutions and is non profit and i wanted it in wikipedia where a lot of people search.

Please let me know your thoughts in this matter. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Asampat (talkcontribs)

Problems with a page - Tracie Spencer

[edit]

Hi Peacey! I just thought I'd contact you because I saw your username several times in the history of the Tracie Spencer page, and was hoping you could help. Gardeniagurl keeps changing the birthdate to the year 1978, when it is really 1976 (and has been properly sourced, too). I also noticed that in the history, Gardeniagurl has alternately claimed to be Tracie Spencer herself ("I am Tracie Spencer and wnated to make some corrections." - 03:22, 30 December 2006 [1]) and then subsequently has claimed to be her publicist ("I do publicity for Miss. Spencer and keep trying to update and correct her info. Please stop changing it. Thanks." - 07:20, 22 January 2007 [2]). Do you think there's a way to possibly resolve this informally? I apologize if this isn't the right place to post (this is the first time I've posted a message on a talk page; I registered just to do so!) Thanks for your help! Deletion of Douglas Texter

[edit]

Hi, Doug Texter here.

Two years ago, Alphabeter created a page for me. Greywolfe updated it in early June. Since then, it was hit hard by Vandalism with an ISP coming from Sioux City, Iowa. Edits were ripped out, and all sorts of vile things were said. Then, a user, Alphabeter came on and said that she was deleting the article about me. The claim was made that the subject was no longer notable. The trouble with this is that the subject has gained national publications since the time of the creation of the article and has been nominated for international awards. If anything, visibility has gone up, not down. I've also been hit very hard by some malicious blogging, probably coming from the ISP. May I get a copy of the record of the edits for legal reasons? I'm going to an attorney.

Thank you, Doug Texter douglas.texter@att.net

Deletion Review for Kara Kennedy Allen

[edit]

Hi, I've never done this before so my apologies if I'm getting it wrong. A page I started and did some, but not all work on, Kara Kennedy Allen, was speedy deleted. I can understand if someone wants to nominate the page for deletion, but I don't see why it meets the criteria for speedy deletion in any way. Can you please undelete it or whatever the procedure is for bringing it back so it can be considered for deletion in a normal way? Again, I don't see anything on Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion that seems to fit this page. Thanks --Crunch (talk) 23:19, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello PeaceNT! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 43 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity

[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Notice of change

[edit]

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that you will not longer be able to request restoration of the tools because of your prior inactivity. You have until December 30, 2012 to request restoration or else the policy will prevent you from doing so in the future; you would need to seek a new WP:RFA. Until December 30, you can file a request at WP:BN for review by the crats. Thank you. MBisanz talk 04:22, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Attention: Potions in Harry Potter will be placed for AfD on June 4, 2016

[edit]

(You are receiving this notice due to your having made some edits to the article discussed or its talk page sometime during its history)

In November of 2007 Potions in Harry Potter was deleted as a the result of a deletion discussion due to its failure of WP:FICT, WP:PLOT, WP:WAF, and other issues. On June 4, 2015 the article was recreated from content then currently existing on the Magical objects in Harry Potter article. A discussion followed regarding the appropriateness of the recreation. An attempt was made to return this article to a redirect, which was undone a day later. Some months later, a notice was placed on the article's talk page indicating the article would be placed for deletion. A few days ago, the article was placed for proposed deletion. This too was undone.

Throughout the history of the article, which spans more than a decade, it has never had any references. It has always been written in in-universe style. No outside universe perspective has ever been provided. As of June 2016, it will have been tagged for both of these problems for a year. I have asked, begged, and pleaded with people to rewrite this article to no avail. As the article stands (and has always stood), it continues to fail WP:FICT, WP:PLOT, and WP:WAF. There have been suggestions to merge the content back to Magical objects in Harry Potter, but this completely fails to address the failures noted. Where the content exists, either in its own article or as part of another, matters not. The issue is the content itself.

Barring a massive rewrite of the entire article into something that is encyclopedic in its treatment of the subject, I will be placing it for deletion on June 4, 2016. This notice is being sent as a last ditch attempt to find one or more people willing to do something to fix the serious problems extant in this content. Thank you for your attention, --Hammersoft (talk) 17:19, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Pride 2016

[edit]

As a participant of WikiProject LGBT studies, you are invited to participate in the third annual Wiki Loves Pride campaign, which runs through the month of June. The purpose of the campaign is to create and improve content related to LGBT culture and history. How can you help?

  1. Create or improve LGBT-related Wikipedia pages and showcase the results of your work here
  2. Document local LGBT culture and history by taking pictures at pride events and uploading your images to Wikimedia Commons
  3. Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

Looking for topics? The Tasks page, which you are welcome to update, offers some ideas and wanted articles.

This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. The group's mission is to develop LGBT-related content across all Wikimedia projects, in all languages. Visit the affiliate's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Extended confirmed protection

[edit]

Hello, PeaceNT. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

[edit]

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

[edit]

Hi PeaceNT.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. — xaosflux Talk 02:47, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of imminent suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Information icon Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next several days. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time, and that you have not been inactive from administrative tasks for a five year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. Further, following a community discussion in March of 2018, Administrators suspended for inactivity who have not had any logged administrative activity for five years will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. — JJMC89 bot 00:02, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bronx-Whitestone Bridge (old history) listed at Redirects for discussion

[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Bronx-Whitestone Bridge (old history). Since you had some involvement with the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge (old history) redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. epicgenius (talk) 19:44, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, PeaceNT. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

[edit]

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Information icon Established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month.

Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to rejoin the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.

Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — JJMC89 bot 00:05, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited NCT Dream, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Singles (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Pending changes reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.
