He is one of the few architects from coimbatore, India getting recognized because of his innovative designs in architecture. Hi Salih, I've just noticed, that you undid my external links in Orifice plate and Kármán vortex street because of spam. Before we end up of philosophizing on which is spam and which is not I'd like to ask you to have a look at the discussions on User talk:XLinkBot I have allready undergone. Bud once again my understanding of a global encyclopedia for everybody is that it shouldn't be limited to a academical collection of formulas. When there is a chance of having the theory explained in a admittedly simplified, but more visual way we should definitely make use of it. This is my intention (next to the fact, that I'm very fond of good 3D animations) and not spamming. I hope this clears up the sky a little bit. Kainikkara Kumara Pillai

I started this article as a sort of experiment related to the Joy J. Kaimaparamban AfD discussion. I picked Kainikkara Padmanabha Pillai at random from the list of authors published by DC Books, which did not have an entry for Joy J. Kaimaparamban although the article says DC Books published his works. I wanted to see whether, as I suspected, it would be easy enough to find sources on a published Malayalam author. It was. The article on his brother Kainikkara Kumara Pillai followed naturally. I will try a third, then go back to the AfD and comment there. Not seeing it very positively at this stage. Hi, I wanted to ask regarding the 'orphan' tag in article S P Vaid. It transparently states that "This biography of a living person needs additional references or sources for verification", but if you look at the article, almost 18 references have been provided as such which clearly verify and confirm the facts provided. • The article is currently tagged for {{orphan}} and {{refimproveBLP}}. I don't see any problem in removing "refimproveBLP" tag as the sourcing seems to be quite adequate. An article is tagged for "orphan" if there is no other Wikipedia article is linked to it. Currently, there are two articles, namely List of people from Jammu and Kashmir and Dogra are linked to it. Hello Salih, I wanted to know if you have checked out the site linked to which you removed. It provides a genuinely useful service that is not found elsewhere on the web for understanding Telugu dictionary content in one's own script. Several readers who speak telugu but do not understand the script themselves have mentioned that it is useful to them, for example. I went through adding it to pages where it would be relevant. Kerala Congress

Hi. I noticed your edit at Kerala Congress (Joseph). However, it's a bit forkish to have both Kerala Congress and Kerala Congress (Joseph) articles. There is no Kerala Congress party in Kerala now. The parent party had split and became independent parties like Kerala Congress (Mani), Kerala Congress (Balakrishna Pillai), Kerala Congress (Jacob), and Kerala Congress (Joseph). All these these parties having separate election symbols. If you think that this amounts to content fork, then we will have to consider all these parties together. Muthoot Family Category

I do not see a reason why the Family should not by put in the category of Indian Families. Since the Muthoot Group owned by the family has an international presence in over 3 continents and is also having presence in over 22 states of India with more than 1500 branches, plus several business interests outside the state of Kerala (e.g. Chennai Live 104.8 FM in Tamil Nadu, 2000 Acres of Rubber plantations in Maharashtra, St. George's High School in New Delhi and others), I believe that the group deserves to be put in a category that gives justice to their truly pan Indian existence. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eapenalexander (talk • contribs) 08:47, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Please try to be more careful when tagging an article as unreferenced, especially if you tag it as a BLP which is unreferenced! If there are sources listed in external links, then use {{nofootnotes}}. If there are no references (including external links) and it is not a living person, use {{unreferenced}}.

Ideally, if there is an external link like this one, it should be converted to a reference, as I did on the above article.

Actually, compressibility of gas is of great concern when that gas is being drawn through a liquid; the weight of the liquid (rather than the effects of speed) act to compress the gas; as the bubbles travel upward, they expand. Again, I assert that this is of importance at least in the petroleum industry (as well as several other industries, I would assume) and I desire that someone replace the image with an image that demonstrates this principle visually rather than simply erasing it. I have also brought this request up on the talk page (but I was on the complex's open internet and a laptop rather than on my PC, so it shows as an IP address).Zaphraud (talk) 23:25, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

referred form of the Navier–Stokes equations

Hi Salih, I put the Navier–Stokes equations back into the form corresponding with the associated reference to Batchelor; not because it was in itself wrong. During the last year, the given form evolved into a form deviating from the associated reference, without adjusting the reference. People do not seem to apprehend that $\scriptstyle \iiint \left(\rho \,D\mathbf {v} /Dt\right)\;{\text{d}}V$ for a material fluid element is a nice momentum conservation form. There's a difference between childish hyperbole and trying to perpetuate a hoax. She in fact looks to have started skating at an early age and looks to have won enough awards to assert significance. A Google search would have shown this. While an A7 CSD tag might have been sustainable, clearly a vandalism warning was not. I went through EL page, but still do not know the reason for removal. Clean up is basically required in the "history section" of the article. It has become bloated up over a period of time and is disproportionately lengthy compared to other sections. I think, we need to trim it by purging all the irrelevant material. Please see the other article on cities like Chennai, New Delhi, and Kochi. I think it's a good idea to start a new article on "history of Kozhikode" and discuss the history part exhaustively; we only need to move the relevant content from history section in Kozhikode article to the new article. Hei, i guess that since you edit a lot of film related articles that you will be familiar with the naming conventions. I just feel that that the title of "Prithviraj Sukumaran" is inappropriate as he is known simply as "Prithviraj", so i am thinking that a title of the form "Prithviraj<space>(<something>)" is more apt. My move to that format was twice reverted (First i moved it to "Prithviraj (actor)" and then "Prithviraj (Malayalam actor)"). Now, i am looking for some opinion from ppl experienced in this genre as cant really come up with a decision after going through WP:NAMING. Yours will be very helpful.

Hi Arjun, Ideally, Prithviraj should have been the title of the article, but there are other notable people with Prithviraj as their first name. The next option would be to either go for "Prithviraj (actor)" or "Prithviraj Sukumaran". I prefer the latter, because it identifies the person uniquely without a tail. Thanks. I would agree that those are not the reference I would prefer either. But those two are the only close ones I could get after much searching in Google. The first, in about us section, states that "The Independent Media Center is a network of collectively run media outlets for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of the truth." While since the name Kumbanad came from the family that lived there I thought the second ref carried more weight in the context. I think you will also agree that orkut and twitter pages cannot come in the reference either. Hence we are left with no major reference to Kumbanad. I think all that can be done is to have just one or two lines stating what Kumbanad is all about. Mappila community

Dear Sali,

Now you have deleted two sections as follows,

1. Since Islam reached Malabar as early as 7th century it had almost mixed with the culture and traditions of Keralites . So, the Islahi Movement in Kerala, a renaissance of the community, resulted in the division of Mappilas as "Sunnis" (more orthodox sect than the other) and "Mujahids" (though both of these belong to the Sunni branch of Islam). It's interesting to note that the faith of the Mappilas was a mixture of "Sunnis" and "Mujahids" before these renaissance. The Shia branch is almost absent amongst the Muslims of Kerala.

2.Mappila sects Theological orientations amongst the Mappilas are primarily divided into three, though all these belong to the Sunni branch of Islam.

1) Sunni orthodox sects of Shafi school (A. P. Sunni-Kanthapuram, E. K. Sunni etc.). 2) Adherents of Mujahid -Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (A. P. Mujahids, Madavur etc.). 3) Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (simply Jama'at).

The Sunni classification referred to here are identified by their conventional beliefs and practices and adherence to Shafi school of law, while the other two theological orientations,the Mujahids and the Jama'ats, are seen as reform movements within the community and they are School-less. The Shia school is almost absent amongst the Muslims of Kerala. These internal divisions had a great effect on the social life of a Mappila, especially in associated with marriages, burials, mosques (most these divisions even have there own mosques) etc. Muslims in Kerala enjoy a better social and financial security when compared to the Muslims living in other part of India. 3. Disputed Pre-Caste system among Mappilas

Sources never indicated that the pre-castes among Mappilas developed as the result of close contact with Hindu cultures. Thangals claim a superior status derived from their foreign ancestry. The non-Thangals are assumed to be converts from Hinduism, especially from Low Castes (Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe) converts, and are therefore drawn from the indigenous population

How relevant do you think reproduction of the complete letter of the Nilambur Rani is for the article in the form it is as of now? It might be worth a mention in a summarized way, but reproducing the whole letter is putting extra emphasis on a piece of document much beyond its actual significance. The book that quotes it actually just placed it in its appendix, along with many other documents. There are many other letters written by various parties on this very subject - by people with varying opinions. The only substantial article I came across about VM Kutty was that Hindu article. More offline source should be available. BTW, in the article 'Mappila Songs' it is mentioned that Kunhayan Musaliyar lived in 16th century, however this book says that he lived in 19th century. Randathani dates it as per the Pakkar Panoor folk tale book. T Menon in this work dates him to around 1700. SM Koya in Mappilas of Malabar dates the Nool Mala by Kunhayan Musaliyar to 1151 AH, which would be 1762 AD. Traditional stories put him as a contemporary of Zainudheen Makhdum and a student of the scholar. So its an unclear picture. In Mappilappattu - Padhavum Padhanavum(Balakrishnan Vallikkunnu and Dr. Umar Tharamel, D.C. Books, 2006) its is categorized in the time period of the post Mala ppattu era of the 17th century and before the Padappattu era of the 19th century, though the time frame is not provided. A semi-biography I read a few years back narrated his days at the Ponnani dars under the Makhdoum, though it could be a Makhdoum of a different era. His songs don't involve battle balads, so its most likely at sometime during the 1700s, the relatively calm years in the Malabar. (Now) I am almost sure that his correct middle name is "Nambiyadikkal". I just don't know how "Neelakantan" came instead of "Nambiyadikkal". First revision of mlwp article was written by me, based on my school time notes. I remember, middle name in those notes were also not clear but do not remember any reseach on that. Thanks for the link. I've added it there to the references. I've to add a few more categories of Songs - the Qissa pattu, a little more about marriage songs and other miscellaneous categories that actually fall under the humour category like Thenga pattu etc.
BTW I need some suggestion from you. Do you think a category wise grouping (mala, kissa, pada, oppana etc) would be better or a timeline based grouping? The former would help put things in the normal way we categorize a music genre. The latter would have an advantage in the case of Mappilappattu specifically because each genre has a very important connection with the historic situation on the time. The background of the songs need explanation in their historic context. Salih, you shouldn't have deleted my article, especially when I placed the hold on it. Isn’t that against the policy of Wikipedia? If the article is missing some qualifications then tell me about them and I will fulfill the requirements.

Notable in the sense of being "famous", or "popular"—although not irrelevant—is secondary.

For example, as per the policy this topic would have been considered interested to individuals. Not many people know that Sadaats are descendents of Prophet Muhammad. There are many more articles on wikipedia.org about different Sadaat groups but there wasn’t any article about the Dakoha Sadaat. Who aren’t only descendents of Bani Hashim but they played a very important role in the area of Dakoha and Partition of Hindustan (into India and Pakistan).

First of all the article was not deleted by me. It was deleted by the administrator RHaworth. The article was deleted using the criterion CSD-A7, which is applied when the subject of the article does not make any claim of notability. Kerala High Court

Where is it? From what I've seen, it's in Ernakulam, but everywhere on Wikipedia it's been changed from Ernakulam to Kochi. There is always confusion between Ernakulam and Kochi. They can be regarded as twin cities. To add the confusion Ernakulam is also the district where the twin cities belong. I think it is more correct to say that the Kerala High Court is located in Ernakulam, see [3], [4]. Salih, you would seem to better placed to make assessments about the Indian University system than Cindamuse or I. It seems to be suggested from the copy-vio'd page that the College awards the degrees on behalf of the University, sort of like the Oxford and Cambridge system. Hello Salih. Well, there was earlier a category in VKKM article saying he was a Maharashtra politician (I did not add that, it was someone else). So I added the category Bengali politician, and the more specific category Mumbai politician (removing the Maharashtra category). Both are there for the same kind of reason. I am not very keen on those categories, but either both must be removed, or both must stay. You can decide as you wish. I know that VKKM was particularly proud of his contesting from outside his home state, as a mark of his non-attachment to regional sentiments (and he was critical of Nehru contesting only from Allahabad, his home turf); VKKM finally contested his last election from Trivandrum when all options had run out (but again, he was reluctant to do so from Calicut). So perhaps he himself would have been happy to be included in those categories (not that this is very decisive, but just a remark). I don't know how Indira Gandhi viewed contesting outside Allahabad, but perhaps not so ascetically as VKKM. If Indira Gandhi is not included in those categories, and a regional tag on a politician is conferred by birth, yes, both those should be removed. Karnan (talk) 22:45, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Re Kamal Haasan

First of all sorry for my late response. I did not do anything wrong in the article as pointed out by you long back. My explanations:

• I corrected the typo "charecter" to "Character".
• It says "After a few more films in Tamil and Malayalam, he did Naan Avan Illai" which is not true. Naan Avanillai was released before Kanyakumari, his first film in Malayalam.
• At that time I wasn't sure about this film which made me remove it but later I understood the significance of that film in his Malayalam career. But what makes Allauddinum Albhutha Vilakkum a notable film. Sommokadidhi Sokokadidhi was highly successful film released during that period.
• In the sentence "Despite his celebrated film career, his personal life had some setbacks which have been exploited by the media. In his early career, he co-starred in several Tamil and Malayalam". Kamal and Srividya have acted separately in many Malayalam films, no doubt but it says they co starred in several films which is not true. They haven't co starred in many Malayalam films with the exception of just one film where as they acted together in more Tamil films. Hope you get me. Filmfare Awards South

Hi! I really found it tough finding sources before finally expanding these awards for all the four south Indian languages. Check out this [7] published by The Times of India. It clearly states that Awards for Best Actor, actress and director were given only from 1972. But check Filmfare Award for Best Actor (Malayalam), User:SidhardhRamesh has added that Sathyan won the award in 1963 and 1969. This is a little tricky issue. The source provided by User:SidhardhRamesh (http://www.manoramaonline.com/advt/movie/sathyan-40-years-down-memory-lane/profile.htm), clearly says Sathyan won the award in 63 and 69 for the films Adimakal and Ammaye Kanan respectively. It is published by manoramaonline.com which is considered to be a reliable source. But, it could well be an error. If you can point to a source which conclusively establishes the fact that the award was first given in 1972, we can safely conclude that manoramaonline is in error. She is A. B. Raj's daughter I know, but I think I also read that her mother is Tamil (which makes her mother tongue Tamil) and was bought up in Tamil Nadu (of course, I am not very sure). If you have some concrete information, could you please update the Saranya article, which will be helpful. Also, I never heard her talking in Malayalam in any interview aired on Malayalam channels. Mother tongue of a person need not be his/her mother's mother tongue! Since she is of mixed parentage (as you have claimed - I do not know anything about her mother) both "Malayali film actors" and "Tamil film actors" cats can be added, but definitely not "non Malayali actors acted in Malayalam-language films". Brought up in Tamil Nadu, did not speak Malayalam, etc. cannot be the basis for determining a person's mother tongue. Salih (talk) 08:55, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Wikipedia users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Wikipedia - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

Malayalam Name

The clarification given to the word 'Malayalam' is undone for want of source.OK. My point is that I have seen this in one of reference books some decades ago. Now it may not be possible to trace it out. The undone wordings 'Another point of view is that the word 'Malayalam' is derived from two Old Tamil words coined together, Malai (MOUNTAIN- மலை) and Azhi (SEA- ஆழி) etc., is more meaningful in comparison with the wording ' Malayalam is derived from two words of early Malayalam - mala meaning mountain, and alam meaning PLACE'(The word "SEA" may suits more well) already appearing in the page. I think that all point of views if there is a sound reasoning could be accommodated.

Vandalism by new member

Please check the edits of new member VJose2012 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/VJose2012). Most of his edits are vandalism, changing the status of all Mammootty films as hits and editing the gross to high values and changing the status of all Mohanlal films as flops and changing their gross and small values. He even removes the references which are not favourable to his vandal activities. Can something be done ?

Harish, first of all I had no intention to belittle you. If you find an article that does not have enough references, but you feel that the subject is notable, the proper way address the issue is to add reference to the article. I didn't tell I got a special right, don't know why you thought so. I added it to the list after confirming its entry in Mathrubhumi e-paper. As per Wiki rules I could not post that picture there. Also I provided a list of theatres from a leading film community. If you have access, please check Mathrubhumi e-paper Ernakulam edition on 23-Mar-2012.The film is also in the Sanscinema list [8]. If there is no reference available in Internet, it cannot make a event that already happened into something not happened.

Alex, I am intrigued by your behaviour. How does it matter you contributing to the article Muslim League. You took up that article when I pointed out to you that you have COI issues. If you find something in that article contentious, just asked for the source or remove the contentious material. The burden of sourcing is on the editor who adds the material. The book by Barnes & Noble is unreliable. I am not the person who wrote Muslim League content. I might have made some minor edits. CFL condition

Hi, I think that you are wrong, and CFL condition is aplicable for stability of the discrete heat equation. I have read the paper by Courant, Friedrichs and Lewy. It's about the stability analysis of different numerical schemes applied to simple linear PDEs. My understanding is that the name CFL condition is the name given to the stability condition for the hyperbolic type PDE, given by

I have reverted your edit in this page. It is really bad to see an experienced wikipedian like you removed the whole plot section from a film article, merely saying 'it is not fair to provide the detailed plot of the movie, especially when the movie is still running.' WP:Spoiler clearly says that Wikipedia contains spoilers and a user cannot remove content from an article because he/she thinks it spoils the plot. WP:FILM additionally says: "all of the film's important events should be outlined without censoring details considered spoilers." What is to be avoided is "minutiae like dialogue, scene-by- scene breakdowns, individual jokes, and technical detail." I guess my revert is justified. You wouldn't have mentioned this had you taken time in reading WP:FILM as I pointed. See WP:FILMPLOT which clearly says "Since films are primary sources in their articles, basic descriptions of their plots are acceptable without reference to an outside source." And a lot of discussions have happened related to Wikipedia's policy on writing about fiction and even you might have come across the Agatha Christie's Mousetrap issue which was covered even by Malayalam media. To be frank, I was not aware of the fact that the plot section of a film can be unreferenced. But, in my personal opinion, this detailed plot is a real spoiler for a potential viewer of the movie since it reveals every twist and turn in the story. do people keep making edits like these on almost all the major cities in Kerala? I'm getting tired of reverting them and do you know if these edits have any basis? Generally, for the BLP, we need reliable sources for any information in the article. Any editor can remove unsourced or poorly sourced information from a BLP. Unfortunately, for some reasons, the video sources are not considered to be reliable and the editor is removing whenever you add a video link. He can assume good faith and refrain from deleting the information. But, he is not thinking so. You can try adding a print source or online non-video sources to the article. Indian Engineering Services vandalism

Hi Salih,

I understand that you are one of the major contributors to IES page and it is on your watchlist. The page is however continuously attacked by vandals and test editors. As a result of which, the readers of the article are being misled. For instance, someone wrote NIT Hamirpur Service, State Public welfare service, Indian Air Force, etc (please the see changes I reverted). I suggest that Wikipedia:Pending changes should be used to counter the above. The article is currently error free and hence should be protected ASAP before someone messes with it. Hi Cyphoidbomb, overall you have done a good work for the project. But, still I see some rough edges in you gnomish work. For example, by going through the article history here, I can see that recently somebody has nominated this article for deletion due to notability concerns. After that, you came and tagged it for notability. The article was taken to AfD because of notability concerns and thus putting an explicit notability tag seemed to be redundant. Okay you have put the tag, but given the AfD process was on, it was unnecessary to aggressively reinstate the tag, that too with a cryptic edit summary, after an editor removed it. In my opinion, when the AfD is on, whether the notability tag is there or not is not going to make any difference. You may add a notability tag to the article, if the AfD is closed as no consensus. Hey, I noticed you reverted my link to Laminar flow cabinet on Laminar flow. How is this unrelated? This article is very short and could probably have an entire section on practical applications. Another good one would be Air door, although that article doesn't directly mention laminar flow. These are probably the most common places we see laminar flow in everyday life. The Career Progression section of IES should have a table instead of a paragraph, where Designations of different services (Asst Executive Engineer / Asst Works Manager / Assistant Director are the only three starting posts) should be mentioned with Pay Scales, the time period to reach the Grade can be removed as it varies not only from service to service, but also in different batches of the same service (depending upon the size of the batch of a particular year).
