Production

Shooting

Bade Achhe Lagte Hain is shot in Mumbai, India.[28][29] However, Episode 102-117 was shot in Sydney, Australia in late 2011 and Episodes 235-270 was shot in Dubai in mid 2012 for the post five year leap in partnership with Binali Tourism LLC and Shreenathji Holidays. Priya is shown living with her five year old daughter, Peehu in dubai until she has to come back to Mumbai. However the team landed in trouble as they forgot to obtain the right permit to shoot in Dubai. Reports claimed that the police arrived on the sets and requested to see the right paperwork. The crew was not able to show it and were asked to pack up and head back. Soon rumours spread that Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar were kept under house arrest in Dubai. Later Ram Kapoor clarified saying: "The house arrest rumours are utter nonsense. The only thing which is true is that we ran into some permission problems because of which we had to stop the shoot. And we returned the same night without any problem." Sameer Kochhar also clarified saying: "We were shooting for almost a week but later got into some work permit issues. But everything is sorted now."[30][31][32]

Casting

I have quit the show. My related stories Ram Kapoor may quit Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, makes films his priority Middle-aged men rule the roost on television character is going haywire; it’s not shaping up the way I was promised. I was told that I would be the parallel lead. But it hasn’t turned out like that. My character is bitchier than I expected it to be and there is no scope of growth for it. I will shoot for four more days and my track will end this month. It’s been nearly two years of shooting for a daily soap; I need a break.

Chahat Khanna quoting about leaving the show[33]

When the leap of 5 years was announced,[29] The Actor Eijaz Khan was chosen for the role of Rajat Kapur.[34][35] But later Ekta Kapoor, co-producer of the show claimed that Khan looks younger than Sakshi Tanwar, Kapoor felt the pairing would not work and she chose Sameer instead. Khan's fans got disappointed, Khan claimed, "I still trust Ekta as much as i used to when he was working with Balaji Telefilms. I would love to be a part of any of her projects when it comes to television. If there is something she thinks I am worth, she’ll ask me and we’ll work together,” he had said. Fingers crossed"[35]. Later it was announced that Sameer Kochhar was chosen to play the character of Rajat Kapur. He, Kochhar (who plays Rajat) was supposed to play a plum role in the show. Kochhar aka Rajat was called "The New Man in Priya's Life", After she shifted to Dubai.[36] As of December 2012, Chahat Khanna who is playing Ayesha Ram Kapoor, has decided to leave the show.

Reception

Response

It's sure that Bade Achhe Lagte Hain is going to take a leap. However, Ekta will announce this to the media holding a proper press conference. It will be a huge progression for the show, and you can tell it as a re-launch..

Chahat Khanna (who plays Ayesha) on the five-year leap of the show[47]

Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was well received by the audience. It was declared a "Hit" by many news channels, newspapers, forums and blogs.[48] The producer of the show Ekta Kapoor claimed: "When we started Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, the plan was to run it for only 150 episodes. But fortunately, the show has done well. Now the challenge is: how to take the storyline forward and maintain the freshness?"[49]

The show became one of the most watched show of 2011 and also received 4.2 TRPs.[15] The plot was changed significantly before the five year leap; therefore, to maintain the goodness of the show, Ekta Kapoor had to introduce the five-year leap.[50] The leap was not well received by people and had almost negative reviews. Ekta Kapoor received many negative mails. She claimed: "My inbox has also been jammed. Hate mail can get quite unnerving at times." She even considered taking a six-month season break but she said: "But in India, unlike the West, we don’t have such a structure. Plus, we can’t keep making it dramatic with day-to-day happenings."[49]

Accolades

The show has been receiving good success since its premiere and became one of the most watched show of 2011. Sakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor won their first Dadasaheb Phalke Award for their roles in the show. The show went on to win four Indian Television Academy Awards, three Apsara Film & Television Producers Guild Awards, three FICCI Frames Excellence Honours and five Indian Telly Awards all including Best Serial and Best Actress. The other main achievements included those of story, screenplay and direction.[51]
