Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Wiiboy829 (talk | contribs) at 23:38, 2 March 2014 (→‎Current requests for increase in protection level). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection Vandalism; specifically more on the "Downloadable Content" page where people constantly put unconfirmed songs on there. --Wiiboy829 (talk) 23:38, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection : due to relentless vandalism, changing the musician's second (i.e. maternal) surname from Gomes to Gómez almost daily (see [1]). Thanks. Quis separabit? 23:30, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection, editing dispute about BLPs calling one a child molester. Sportfan5000 (talk) 22:55, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: There's a handful of IP and new editors that are coming along to change the plot about this movie to make a specific scene more harsher than it was portrayed (the accepted wording having been discussed on the talk page before these edits). . MASEM (t) 22:54, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Vandalism and dubious unsourced additions by anon IP editors. STATic message me! 22:05, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Edit warring by an anon IP hopper. STATic message me! 21:58, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. ///EuroCarGT 21:53, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. kelapstick(bainuu) 22:00, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Requested yesterday, but another IP is still doing the same sort of unconstructive/unreliably sourced editing. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 21:24, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    @Lukeno94:, you requested an incorrect page. © Tbhotch (en-2.5). 21:33, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Persistent name vandlism. It stopped for a while now it starts again. SlightSmile 20:43, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. kelapstick(bainuu) 20:48, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP disruption with IPs changing nationality of player. QED237 (talk) 20:39, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of disruptive and dubious unsourced edits by anon IP editors. At the very least the page needs pending changes. STATic message me! 20:36, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – User Mattedia insists on inserting crank content and unreverting it instead of discussing on talk page. Edit war hasn't quite declared itself, but it's heading that way. He appears ignorant and obstinate, but I would tray to argue with him more patiently on the Talk page of the article. Cuzkatzimhut (talk) 19:21, 2 March 2014 (UTC). Cuzkatzimhut (talk) 19:21, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – All day edit warring between vested editors and opponents, No desire to agree despite talk page discussions. 3RR has been breached. Report by uninvolved editor. Leaky Caldron 19:17, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – continued IP vandalism (last IP admits PP lapsed so it was ok to edit). ☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 18:39, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Dubious unsourced additions, vandalism and other disruptive changes by anon IP editors. STATic message me! 18:24, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: The same constant additions of WP:OR that got the page protected before. STATic message me! 18:20, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Socks of Bhural and LanguageXpert back to edit warring after last protection expired. SMS Talk 17:29, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Protect this page for two weeks because IP users making harassing comments/disruptive edits on page when their cricket team loses any match. UBStalk 16:36, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Inappropriate use of user talk page while blocked – Sock-puppetry: Persistent posts by IP addresses for banned user. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:34, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Two edits is not enough to protect this page. kelapstick(bainuu) 18:24, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Repeated postings by IP addresses for banned user. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:33, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: An army of single-purpose accounts keeps on introducing an alleged daughter of this Rothschild, without giving any reliable source. I started a discussion on this on the article's talk page. Please protect the article for now. --bender235 (talk) 16:32, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Create protection: Repeatedly recreated. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 15:42, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Creation protected Was already create protected unless autoconfirmed, upgraded to admin. kelapstick(bainuu) 18:34, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – A lot of unhelpful IP edits that need reverting. JMHamo (talk) 15:32, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: I thought it was a persistent unlogging and IP-hopping troll deleting content (including most of the article's lead summary), but apparently it's just a genuily misguided newbie IP editor. Anyway, it's not stopping deleting content without reaching conensus. (Will edit myself if convincing arguments are presented, or other estabilished-user watchers can do it.) --Niemti (talk) 15:29, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Since the previous protection template was lifted on 28 December 2013 (due to previous persistent vandalism) in just over two months since 28 December 2013, I have counted up at least 25 acts of vandalism on the viewing history of the page. This, in my view, is clearly too many instances of persistent vandalism in the past couple of months. Hazard, as a very high-profile footballer (currently rated by his manager José Mourinho as the best young footballer in the world) will undoubtedly continue to be the target of vandalism on the Wikipedia page unless another protection template is put in place. Kind Tennis Fan (talk) 14:47, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Commented out bits being persistently added back into the article for no reason (they're notes to explain the bit of text, not removed content, so it's a very weird set of edits). Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 14:23, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – IP repeatedly adding unsourced content. The Banner talk 08:22, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
