Sandboxes: Template Size is Too Large??

Hello, wondering if anyone could help me find a remedy for my query. When using sandboxes, on my large size sandboxes I get this warning message:

"Warning: Template include size is too large. Some templates will not be included."

Is there anything I can do to fix this? As in so all my templates will be included in an update? Or is this the limit? Hopefully the former.

    Thanks, R96Skinner (talk) 04:23, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done some further research, unfortunately just seems like it's a "problem" with Wikipedia itself. That's what it seems anyway, If anyone has any further infomation please let me know.

Do deleted edits count towards autoconfirmation?

Dear editors: Sometimes in my work at Afc a new editor will create a draft article over a period of several days with many edits, and in the process be autoconfirmed. Then, not knowing any better, the user will copy-paste the text, either into another draft or to mainspace.

Admins don't like to do history merges in a case like this, since there are no attribution issues. The old draft would most likely just be deleted as no longer needed. My question is, do these deleted edits count toward autoconfirmation, or could the user, having now only one edit, lose his or her confirmed status? I have assumed no, but I'd like to be sure. —Anne Delong (talk) 04:58, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Anne Delong: They don't lose their autoconfirmed status as $wgAutoConfirmCount looks for the total number of edits made by the user, not only live edits. --Glaisher [talk] 08:10, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks; I feel better now about all of the c&p fragments that I have nominated for deletion. —Anne Delong (talk) 11:16, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Wishing/Wanted articles

When I search Dfkldfkjlfsdklf (just an example) on Wikipedia, I get

There were no results matching the query.

The page "Dfkldfkjlfsdklf" does not exist. You can ask for it to be created, but consider checking the search results below to see whether the topic is already covered.

For search help, please visit Help:Searching.

The link "ask for it to be created" should link me directly to a formula, with the article name (here: Dfkldfkjlfsdklf) already filled out and a possibility to add further information on the subject and an explanation how the user can write a real article. Convenient and easy for-not-so-computer-science-experienced-user. Thanks. 78.35.229.65 (talk) 11:59, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is a good suggestion and you should bring it up at the Village pump idea lab. There it can receive third party comments and eventually it might be moved to the Proposals or the Technical part of the Village Pump. Please let me know if you need more help making this proposal. -Thibbs (talk) 15:11, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Unregistered users are not permitted to create article pages themselves. Hence, a link to an editing window cannot be provided. Such a link is provided for registered users. Registering an account is quick and easy and has several other benefits. SpinningSpark 16:37, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This editor was asking for the link to "ask for it to be created" in search to go to a template/form to fill out, presumably where the link already points, which is WP:AFC (though I could see this going to WP:RA as well). Neither of those venues requires an account to get started, and it's doable, as the technique of pre-populating a new section is already used on some noticeboards. - Purplewowies (talk) 20:30, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
But we want users at WP:AFC to read advice first before deciding whether to try to write an article. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:20, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Which article are you talking about? I see you listed as MVP at 1984 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Tournament, but it doesn't call you shortstop or outfielder. It just lists your name. Also do you know of any good written sources that may have reported your position for the 1984 season? -Thibbs (talk) 15:20, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Presumably this is about Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Tournament, where there is an "SS" for him in the table of champions by year. I am going to look for a source, but the first source I looked at lists him as shortstop, which is probably how it ended up in the article.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:28, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Damaris WHO? (?!!)

    Dear Sirs -

First of all... I LOVE (appx.) 97% of the (cooking/food) shows that you air on your channel... hands DOWN! I appreciate that immensely. They stimulate my imagination for preparing delicious dishes for my fiance and I. The vast majority of the chefs whom you "star" in/on your shows have QUITE "impressive" C.V.'s (e.g., Giada DeLaurentis); however, others (in particular, Damaris Phillips) are... well, why in the world is she even "on the air" AT ALL?! For ONE thing, I checked on Wikipedia... and THEY aren't even QUITE sure WHEN she was BORN... "somewhere between 1980 and 1981"... to a family consisting of "four brothers and sisters" (EACH?.. 4 brothers and 4 sisters?), and has "a degree" from a community college in Tennessee, only because she didn't know what ELSE to do in Life?!! And you have her "on the air" simply because she is "from the South" and has a pulse?! For ONE thing, although I was born & grew up in "the North(east)", I lived "down South" for well over a decade of my life. However, I found NOTHING terribly "endearing" about the cuisine of that culture to warrant SOooo much attention as your channel seems to have! I'm sorry, but... it just seems like you could provide your audience with an alternative (high) quality show starring someone other than Damaris Phillips (e.g., Giada DeLaurentis, Sandra Lee, Kelsey Nixon, Guy Fieri, Bobby Flay... heck, even Robert Irvine). ;-) ANYway, as I said above, I DO appreciate your shows (by-and-large), and appreciate you airing such high-quality, "educational" TV, given that almost everything ELSE that's broadcasted is "brain-feces" (to put it "nicely"). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gomphus69 (talkcontribs) 15:32, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Production Code

Hi. I wanted to post this in a more dedicated forum, tried the "Television Portal" but a message there advised that I am not likely to get the desired response. So I am posting it here. User: Dk113040 has been adding "production code" to a whole bunch of pages on televiskion series. Does anyone see any value in this? I for one don't. I doubt that a significant number of readers/ users know what a production code is and to anyone who does, it really adds no value whatsoever to the page. If we are going to retain it, could we at least link it to Production code number in the column heading? Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 15:46, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Can I add Award to article

If the award is relevant, worthy of noting in a discussion of the subject and verifiable - and you do not have a conflict of interest in promoting either the award or the article subject - then yes you can add it. see WP:REFB for how to cite it. If others disagree with your assessments, then you will need to discuss and come to a consensus before readding it. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:43, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is something strange going on with User:Mr. Gonna Change My Name Forever/sandbox/Sledgehammer

Not sure whether this is a bug or something deliberate, but this either interferes with my ability to access a MfD page or it leads me to believe that the page has been nominated for deletion when it has not.

There is a normal {{mfd}} tag in the source, but I cannot click on "this page's entry" or "Miscellany for deletion" using Firefox and Opera. In Chrome I can't click on "this page's entry" but I can click on "Miscellany for deletion". In IE I can click on both.

Also, there is no page at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Mr. Gonna Change My Name Forever/sandbox/Sledgehammer, but the page is listed at Category:Miscellaneous pages for deletion.

Finally, there was some weirdness when I tried to highlight the "User:Mr. Gonna Change My Name Forever/sandbox/Sledgehammer" in Firefox, but it worked fine in Opera, Chrome, and IE.

    --Guy Macon (talk) 22:02, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The weirdness appears to be because of the extremely large font used below the template; if you remove it and show preview the text is clickable again. Sam Walton (talk) 22:25, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The user moved the page from User:Mr. Gonna Change My Name Forever/Sledgehammer to User:Mr. Gonna Change My Name Forever/sandbox/Sledgehammer. The MfD was created when it had the former name so I updated the link to point to Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Mr. Gonna Change My Name Forever/Sledgehammer.[1] The huge font is indeed messing with some browsers. When I mark the large characters, my Firefox indicates the whole page height is being marked, so Firefox apparently thinks the MfD box is behind the large characters. That means they can be marked by dragging the mouse over the MfD box, and the links there cannot be clicked. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:42, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The font worked fine with Google Chrome on my HD Windows 8.1 Dell laptop, but finding the links to the articles on Sledgehammer (an upcoming independent Wikipedia journalism magazine created by me, Gonna) looked difficult. I had to click the link to the "Interview" segment, which was above the text itself near Jimmy Wales' face. Anything that's not Google Chrome can't view the font properly. I've postponed my plans for the magazine for a while because of Orange Mike's MfD of Sledgehammer, but the current verdict is Keep. }IMr*|(60nna)I{ 01:15, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm Derek Partridge, but for some reason Wikipedia would not let me use my name, so I became Derek Pheasant!

I found that someone had written a page about me. It contains numerous inaccuracies and omissions. I attempted to correct them, but got a message about Cite Errors and References. I attempted to contact Helpers through live chat and was answered, but what I then typed seemed to have no way to "Send" and it was never answered.

I found a communication from Sideways 713 about my deleting info from the page... I attempted to contact him, but found it impossible.

I have completely and correctly re-written the page about me and would simply like to be able to enter it. Hopefully some kind soul will see my plea and tell me how to do it!! Thanks.

Hello, Wikipedia:AUTOBIO#Problems_in_an_article_about_you may have some answers about how to address issues.
However, because you have a conflict of interest you generally should not directly post to the article, particularly an entire re-write. Remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and not a directory. We base our content upon what reliably published third parties have written, not what the subject or their press corps want to have printed about them. If you have content and sources that will help bring the article up to date, please present them at Talk:Derek Partridge -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 23:52, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I SCREWED UP THE PSILOCYBE WEILII PAGE!!!!

Sorry, I wanted to add to the section " habitat and Formation " I did not read enough about how to incorporate my information and i just typed it out like a word document and hit save. well I went to see it and there is one sentece........EVERYTHING UNDER THE habitat and formation section on the psilocybe weilii page is screwed up. So it needs to be undone and put back to its original information, or use this text i am gonna add here because this is what I was contributing but did not read how to do it the right way, if anyone can help I appreciate it big time, lots of people im sure need that information and its gone now....here is what I wrote and tried to add.....

    Proposed article content
    Habitat and formation

Psilocybe weilii is found most commonly growing in angregariously to cespitosely fashion. The mushrooms can be found most years from May to December in the Atlanta Georgia area. P. weilii is a tropical/subtropical mushroom like the famous psilocybe cubensis. The peak of the fruiting season for P. weilii is the fall months with cooler temperatures than the Atlanta summer and the fall temperatures average around 50 to 70 degrees fahrenheit. September is considered the prime season with the best chance for finding the mushroom in its known habitats around Atlanta Ga. The fruiting season will end with the first few consecutive frosts in the Atlanta Ga area every year. The mushroom is very common in Atlanta Georgia and surrounding counties and cities, having been reported to grow abundantly as far east as the city of Athens Ga. The mushroom was discovered around 1995 although the species has most likely been in the Atlanta area for many more. Psilocybe weilii is often found growing sporadically with a single mushroom standing alone, or a sort of small grouping of mushrooms, but more commonly it is found and documented growing in clusters. Sometimes a cluster contains a three to over twelve mushrooms or more with every mushroom connected at the base from a mass of mycelium. P. Weilli is found growing directly around the tree trunks of certain local pine tree and other tree's. It likes to grow by shrubs. Growing under other plants and tree allow the species to use the shade and the food the other plants help provide. For example a cluster of P. weilii growing under a lolly bob pine tree would use the fallen pine needles after they have decomposed for food, and the roots of the tree concentrate water around the area under the tree allowing the mushrooms to use that moisture to fruit and reproduce during a time of drought. Food in the form of falling leafs and pine cones, branches and wood that decompose and then the mycelium will use as food. Psilocybe weilii is found growing in fertilized and manicured lawns with sprinklers, this is ideal for the mushroom to flourish because the fertilizer provides the mycelium nutrients along with the sprinklers on a timer ensure a steady supply of moisture. Golf courses are a common place to find weilii growing, the mushroom seems to favor Bermuda grass and Fescue but are just as likely and common growing at the base of hills and in ditch's or along road sides where water and organic debris collect. The mushroom often appears after landslides in mexico and will prefer to fruit in recently disturbed soils or places like sugar cane fields filled with mud, this more so in mexico. The mushroom has been nicknamed the "landslide mushroom" in mexico and "Weilii" in the united states. The mushroom likes red clay and prefers slightly acidic soils. People find the mushroom growing directly from red clay and anywhere the soil has been dug up or disturbed. Like all mushrooms the fruiting will occur after rain or in areas with high humidity. In recent years an internet report surfaced about a massive patch of P. Weilii found growing in a clearing in the woods just east about 25 miles of Atlanta. The report had been written by a local Atlanta man on an online mushroom enthusiast and information website. The report said the man had found a patch of weilii that he estimated to be in the thousands. Maybe even tens of thousands. The patch was reported to be found in a clearing in the woods where pines had fallen and had been killed by a pest insect, basically the whole area was covered in so many fruiting psilocybe weilii that the man said he could not take a step without smashing the mushrooms. That is the largest fruiting of psilocybe weilii reported to date. The species has also been found in Alabama and recently in 2012 a small amount was found growing in the Salem area of South Carolina and not far from there the mushroom was found growing on Hilton head island South Carolina by the famous mycologist known to most only as " Alan Rockefeller " though he reported the mushrooms he found as psilocybe caerulescens, the mycologist "Alan Rockefeller" has reported across many mushroom websites that the psilocybe weilii and psilocybe caerulescens are one in the same. The name Psilocybe Weilii was coined after its discovery in Atlanta Ga and named after the scientist and ethnobotanist andrew weilii for his work in the field. So the name is honorary more so than a scientific one and many people have become confused and believe that it is indeed a separate species from Mexico's native mushroom P. caerulescens.

If you really mean "today's featured article" then it must be a featured article before it can be nominated. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:22, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Editing Wikipedia articles

I have a query about editing Wikipedia articles. My edits are usually confined to correcting grammatical, punctuation and formatting errors (see my User and Contribution pages for clarification), and describing them in the "Edit summary" ribbons can be incredibly fiddly and time-consuming. How can I best abbreviate this information? I notice that after clicking on "Save page" and then "diff" in the Contribution page, the unedited and edited passages are shown side by side; will this suffice?

Also, can you confirm whether I have got this right, please? I have been assuming that when a word/phrase/name that already has a Wiki article on it appears for the first time in an article, even in the lead to the article, it should be highlighted (i.e. in the blue) but not on subsequent mentions. I only ask because I have noticed some apparent inconsistencies, e.g. highlighting on second or even third mentions but not the first. Can you clarify? --P123cat1 (talk) 01:09, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Generally, when all you are doing is grammar fixes and spelling and the like, people will often abbreviate this with the edit summary "ce" for "copyediting". Also, not EVERY word that has a Wikipedia article should have a bluelink. Some guidance can be found at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking. The general principle is that a word or phrase should ONLY be linked if it is contextually important to the article in question. For example, Wikipedia literally has an article titled He. A large number of Wikipedia articles would use the word "he" in them, but almost none of them would link "he" because it is a common word, and not particularly useful in the context of most articles. It probably could be bluelinked in an article titled Gender-specific and gender-neutral pronouns, but that's only because of the contextual relevance. Still, read Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking for more thorough guidance on when and how to link. --Jayron32 01:19, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
More specifically than "ce", you could use "sp" for spelling corrections and "gr" for grammar corrections. There's a pretty thorough list of common terms at WP:GLOSSARY. Generally these abbreviations are preferable to personal ones. -Thibbs (talk) 04:04, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for those Help links. I think I realised the highlighting should be restricted to article-specific words or phrases, but thanks for spelling it out so clearly. --P123cat1 (talk) 10:18, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

On the question of repeating links in the lede, it is normal practice to link relevant terms on first mention in the body of the article even if they have already been linked in the lede. SpinningSpark 16:26, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The current title, and the title you propose, are both absurdly long. How about "TermCoord"? Maproom (talk) 11:30, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    Or Terminology Coordination Unit perhaps.--ukexpat (talk) 11:45, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Now moved to Terminology Coordination Unit of the European Parliament.--ukexpat (talk) 11:48, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that appears to be the official name and Category:Language policy of the European Union has other long names. I also created a redirect at TermCoord. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:52, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also, brackets are generally only used in Wikipedia titles for disambiguation. Acronyms and abbreviations should be given in the lede sentence, not in the title. SpinningSpark 16:23, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    نادانی آموخته شده- نادانی علمی- کتابی است در باره ی فلسفه و الهیات نوشته ی نیکولاس کوزا ( یا نیکولاس مازانوس) که آن را در 12 فوریه ( 23 بهمن) 1440 میلادی در شهر خود، کواِس به پایان رساند. دانشمندان قبلی موضوع " نادانی آموخته شده- نادانی علمی- را مورد بحث قرار داده بودند. مثلا آگوستین هیپو گفت: Est ergo in nobis quaedam, ut dicam, docta ignorantia, sed docta spiritu dei, qui adiuvat infirmitatem nostram« (Epist. ad Probam 130, c. 15, § 28) که در باره ی عمل روح القدس بر انسان ( علیرغم کمبود ناشی از انسان بودنشان) به عنوان "نادانی آموخته شده" عنوان کرده است. . :" بدون آکاهی به سمت بالا تلاش کنید".... . ἀγνώστως ἀνατάθητι. به خوانندگانش توصیه می کند. Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite . متذکر می شود که:.... Bonaventura of Bagnoregio ... spiritus noster non-solum efficitur agilis ad ascensum verum etiam quadam ignorantia docta supra se ipsum rapitur in caliginem et excessum« (Übinger, Docta ignor S. 8);

— Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.142.88.196 (talk) 12:21, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    North Carolina Listing

Your listing on the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro contains two errors. The first is that the zoo opened in August 1974, not 1976 as you have listed. Also, we currently have 1,600 animals in the animal collection, not 1,100 as you currently say in our listing. Thanks, Rod Hackney Public Relations Manager North Carolina Zoo — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.118.179.237 (talk) 13:34, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article states that the official opening was in 1976 and the text below does include that it opened at an interim location in 1974. Do you disagree with that? As for the number of animals, the infobox does say 1600. I'm not sure what a secondary source would be for this (I would expect pretty much all news sources to take the zoo's numbers on this). So I'll change the text to 1600 as well.Naraht (talk) 14:07, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So i have this problem on the German Wikipedia, where admins there claim a simple link on my user page is considered advertising. Since i have that same link on my user page on the Englisch Wikipedia i like to get a clarification, if said link is considered advertising or not. Thanks. Prokaryotes (talk) 13:56, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It looks acceptable to me - the userpage guidelines allow for limited external links on userpages if they are relevant to your work on Wikipedia, and that would seem to qualify. However, those are the English Wikipedia guidelines - as a separate project, the German Wikipedia does not necessarily have the same requirements as en-wiki. We don't have any jurisdiction here over their community guidelines, so while your userpage might be okay here, that has no bearing on your userpage at de-wiki. Thank You, Yunshui for the clarification. Prokaryotes (talk) 15:39, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is Wikipedia an appropriate platform for this information on Family Medicine?

I am a family doctor in the United States. I have been working on a project with a small research team to update the status of postgraduate training in family in all of the 194 World Health Organization (WHO) member nations. This project represents an update to an academic paper that was published in 1995.[1] Also of note, on the Wikipedia page for "Family Medicine" it says, "The examples and perspective in this article deal primarily with the United States and do not represent a worldwide view of the subject."[2]

We have a baseline set of aggregated information about family medicine postgraduate training by country. We used a broad electronic search strategy to aggregate the information on a spreadsheet we are sharing. (see link to a screenshot of the spreadsheet below) We have multiple limitations including: limited languages, limited understanding of the health systems, and limited amount of contacts in each country. These are challenges that a platform like Wikipedia might be able to address. Specifically, I am considering putting the spreadsheet on the Wikipedia Family Medicine page, or sub-page. I have seen similar formats on several List pages such as the page for GDP (PPP) per capita.[3]

For Wikipedia, it would obtain aggregated information that is cited/referenced. The information was collected from all public sources using a structured process and the spreadsheet contains public websites that support our categories - but would be editable by individuals with better information. Wikipedia by nature would provide the value of an iterative, collaborative, multi-national process which directly address the challenges we have faced to date.

In my limited experience it seems Wikipedia might be an appropriate venue for this information. That is why I am submitting this query to the help desk. If there are other online platforms that are more appropriate please advise.

No, the OP is presumably referring to Peaches Geldof (Bob's daughter), who is currently—and apparently reliably—being reported as having died. Your best option is to gather reliably published third party sources that have covered the subject in depth and then follow the WP:AFC process to write an article in your own words in a draft article space and have an experienced editor help you craft an appropriate article that is encyclopedic and not an overly promotional advertisement that will lead to another speedy deletion when moved to live article space. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:27, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Counters in a template

    Hi,

Is it possible to create a counter in a template? Something like:

    {{results|races=5}}

    Gives:

    Race1 Race 2 Race 3 Race 4 Race 5

    Thanks for helping out.NED33 (talk) 08:08, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's possible with a Lua module but I don't know whether there is currently one which can be used for your purpose, and I'm not a Lua programmer. You have enormous repetition in {{Sailing result block}}. You could consider a bunch of these instead: {{#ifexpr:{{{races}}}>1|colspan=2 {{!}} '''Race 1''' {{!!}}}}{{#ifexpr:{{{races}}}>2|colspan=2 {{!}} '''Race 2''' {{!!}}}}.... PrimeHunter (talk) 11:53, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your research and advise. And your right I'm looking for a better way for the sailing result block. However i'm hoping for something like:
    {{Result|races=5}} that translate to:
    For x := 1 to races
    ||Race {{{x}}}
    Next x
What could get rid of the whole bundel of repetitions. Any idea who could help further?NED33 (talk) 13:57, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Lua requests, but if you only need 16 repetitions of {{#ifexpr:{{{races}}}>N|colspan=2 {{!}} '''Race N''' {{!!}}}} then it doesn't seem worth the trouble. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:00, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Citing a database query

Is it possible to reference the result of a query executed on a website's database? Providing a link to the site's search page is not enough - the reader must actually perform a specific search to see the information that is being referenced. I don't know how complete that database is for total casualties, but the suggested reference[1] makes it easy for me to currently get "9591 record(s) match your search criteria". However, quotation marks usually indicate a whole string was copied directly so I would only put quotation marks on the selection.[2] PrimeHunter (talk) 17:13, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    odd redirections from all lowercase

When I do searches in wikipedia, often times I won't capitalize the first letter, just to make typing easier. However recently I've found that what it first finds in the search is not the Initial Capital version. For example, a search on 'denmark' goes to DENMARK which is a redirect to Denmark. florida goes to Flórida which is redirect to Florida. maryland goes to MarylanD which goes to Maryland. I've never seen the result of these lower case searches going to anything other than directly to the article. I am using "New Search" in the Beta features, should the discussion go to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk:Search instead?Naraht (talk) 16:01, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No sign of similar behaviour with the normal search, so it sounds as if your problem is specific to the Beta. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:08, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I can reproduce this with Beta search, also for "Denmark" where https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search/Denmark uses the exact capitalization of Denmark but hits the redirect on DENMARK. This is silly, but at least I haven't found an example where it happens if the capitalized version doesn't redirect to the searched version. For example, "Ice" and "ice" find Ice and not ICE. Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 123#Cirrus now a Beta Feature said to post to Bugzilla or https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk:Search. Hello, Kyle. I'm afraid that's not how Wikipedia works. Your approval is neither sought nor required, and we strongly prefer that articles are written by third parties, rather than by those connected to the subject, as the latter have a conflict of interest and may find it difficult to write in the required neutral tone. The main criterion for whether an article should be deleted is whether or not the subject is notable in Wikipedia's special sense, that is, whether it has been written about at length in reliable sources unconnected with the subject. At present, in my view, the references in the article do not establish this, and so the article is liable to be deleted - but because it does not establish notability, not because you don't like it. I suspect that the company does meet the criterion, in which case if somebody finds and adds suitable references, the article will not be deleted. Your best bet, as NYKevin says, is to explain on the article's talk page what changes you would like to see made, and then somebody uninvolved can decide what to do. If you accompany your suggestions with references to reliable sources, unconnected with the company, that will make it more likely that your changes will get incorporated. I have changed your URL to a wikilink, and somebody else has redacted your email address above. --ColinFine (talk) 16:56, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

9/11 deaths of law enforcement officers

    Good afternoon,

I would like to request a change to the 9/11 page at September 11 attacks. In the second paragraph of the article at the very top of the page, it ends with the statement "It also was the deadliest incident for firefighters in the history of the United States." 9/11 was also the deadliest day in US law enforcement, as we lost 72 officers on that day, information that can be verified at the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial Fund page (http://www.nleomf.org/facts/enforcement/deadliest.html) I would appreciate it if the 9/11 page could be updated to include this information to reflect the sacrifice of those officers and to give them the honor and reverence their sacrifice is due. Thank you for your attention to this request, it is greatly appreciated.

The Administrator of this false article has been posting false articles about his former employer, bosses and co-workers for the last three years. Using personal names and putting phone numbers on the internet that have resulted in threats to employees families. All of the articles he references in this particular article are false since he wrote them. He has spent the last three years harassing people and creating false and defamatory information. Each time an attempt is made to correct this article, he blocks the revision.

You have been reverted by several people, including myself, for your additions, and if you are trying to make a legal threat, please read WP:LEGAL. I don't have much insight into the whole situation, here (and it's too late here to look into it), so hopefully others can provide more advice. - Purplewowies (talk) 05:51, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Custom infoboxes

Hi, I'm trying to create my own infobox for unidentified people and murder victims, but the template doesn't want to work. If someone could help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it. --GouramiWatcher(?) 13:03, 9 April 2014 (UTC) [reply]

I think there is a move to use {{Infobox person}} as much as possible to reduce the proliferation of people-related infoboxes. If you think additional parameters should be added to that template, please make your request at Template talk:Infobox person.--ukexpat (talk) 13:38, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    references

In trying to correct a reference, I ended up with two for the same municode. How do I delete the incorrect one #4 on the Boca Raton Library page?

Many thanks for your guidance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sea Lark (talkcontribs) 17:15, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sea Lark. You can remove references by simply deleting the corresponding code and <ref></ref> tags in the editing interface, like this: [5]. And you can use the same reference more than once by giving it a name on the first use (like this:<ref name="NAME">DETAILS OF REF</ref>) and then putting <ref name="name_here" /> for subsequent uses. Another thing you could use if you want is citation templates, for instance {{cite web|url=|title=|author=|date=|website=|publisher=|accessdate=}} for citing websites (just fill in the fields). benzband (talk) 17:56, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Reset Password

    Hello,

Curious as i am while i watch documentaries i regularly check some details or additional information on wikipedia, today i checked an article that showed quite some incorrect data, i don't find myself in the position of writing articles so i wanted to add something to the talk page. I remembered i once made an account of which i could remember everything except the password. So i entered my username and e-mail and it said i wil get a reset password e-mail. Well it's been allmost 2h and i'm still waiting for that e-mail, could someone help me with this problem.

Thx in advance — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:1811:4802:FF00:A116:EBC0:E303:97D2 (talk) 18:52, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, have you checked your "spam" folder, in case the password-reset email got classified as spam by accident? benzband (talk) 19:29, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you enter a user name into the "Reset Password" dialog, the email will be sent to the email address saved with that account, which may not be the email address that you've typed into the dialog. -- John of Reading (talk) 20:39, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Incorrect information

How do you complain about people editing pages and inserting incorrect information?

    thanks Michaiah2007 (talk) 22:35, 9 April 2014 (UTC)michaiah[reply]

You don't complain. You ask polite questions on the article talk page in question, or you find who made the edit, and you ask them politely. --Jayron32 22:39, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Or you can revert their changes, once only, with an edit summary explaining why you think their changes were inappropriate. If they do not accept your reversion, then the two of you should certainly discuss the matter. See WP:BOLD. --ColinFine (talk) 23:31, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Creating your Own Wikipedia page

I am responsible to create my version of a Wikipedia page explaining the concept and theories of intercultural communication. I am aware that this website already has a topic of such sort. Is there a way where I can start from a fresh page and build my own style so there is no plagiarism taken into account during the process? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dmatteo051 (talkcontribs) 00:29, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Wikipedia doesn't allow multiple articles on a single topic. You're welcome to edit the existing page, but you shouldn't start a new page on Intercultural communication since one already exists. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 00:45, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Federalist Papers, Request

I have a request for the Federalist Papers section of Wikipedia. Currently most Federalist paper pages have a summary, synopsis or the like which I still believe it is good given the ability to look back and see how they were viewed and received. Also for a person who just wants to get the gist of the document without reading the entire document. Some papers pages have a link to a photograph of the paper in question which is grainy and hard to read. I suggest a transcribed version of each document, word for word, so a person wanting to read the exact words written on the subject by our founding fathers is available to anyone coming to that certain page.

Fraudulent Wikipedia article about a 'Daniell Family'

Hello, I have recently joined Wikipedia and have been reading Wikipedia articles about a lot of families on Wikipedia (I am interested in family histories).

I came across an article about a so called " Daniell Family " . This article does not seem to make sense at all as most information mentioned is not linked to the subject of the article and none of the sources listed are referring to this "Daniell family". I cannot find any further information about the notability or importance of this family on the internet either.

When I looked at the history of this article, I came across several Wikipedia accounts all created on the 9th of April and all of them have similar editing patterns on their talk pages. It seems like they are sockpuppets.

I am very worried about this article, as somebody might be creating an article about their own family, making them seem more important/notable than they really are. I have a feeling this article might turn into something serious or fraudulent, as this article claims links with famous important families and institutions, such as the Rockefeller family and Harvard University, when there are no legitimate sources anywhere confirming any link with anybody or anything mentioned in this article.

Furthermore, this article vaguely mentions links to two English painters, but I cannot find any confirmation anywhere about the links with these painters.

I would appreciate it if an experienced editor would seriously take a look at the accounts editing this page and consider deleting the article. Thanks--OhioJack (talk) 04:53, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It certainly looks a little suspicious, as you say - I'll look into it further. AndyTheGrump (talk) 05:07, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like large portions of information and the sources have been copied from the article about the Rockefeller family.--OhioJack (talk) 05:08, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In the Family residences section, they have not even bothered to edit "Rockefeller" to "Daniell". This hoax article should be deleted. Maproom (talk) 06:05, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Article has been deemed a hoax and tagged for speedy deletion. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:12, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've deleted the article and restored the legitimate redirect that used to be at that title. Graham87 07:23, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    redirected page

I have been drafting an article but it now has a redirect that the page has been renamed/moved. I cant find the page and I cannot draft another version because it takes me back to the same redirect page. I cannot make sense of the instructions and do not know why this has happened. Help please — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fulhamoldboy (talkcontribs) 05:32, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and welcome to the help desk. Your draft was previously located at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Nigel Randell Evans, which now redirects to Draft:Nigel Randell Evans. This is where your draft is located. Your draft was moved into the "Draft:" namespace as that is the preferred location for article drafts. Hope this helps, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:16, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is posting the raw translation of articles acceptable, or should I format them?

I plan on using Duolingo to mass translate a bunch of articles. I find articles that need translations, and then I have the community translate them.

Usually, I'd get the translation, and then format it myself. This, however, takes a lot of my time and I'd prefer not spending all day formatting articles.

I was thinking, would it be acceptable if I just posted the raw translation without the formatting, and leave it to the community to format?

For example, here is an original translation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federalist_Papers

And here is what a raw translation would look like: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:The_Red_Rat_Writer/sandbox

I ask this, because I've noticed that the community helps out with the articles by adding link to them and whatont. — Preceding unsigned comment added by The Red Rat Writer (talkcontribs) 08:01, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am having difficulty understanding your question. When you write "the community", do you refer to the community of Wikipedia editors? My guess is that you are proposing to create machine-translated articles, in the hope that other Wikipedia editors will then do the rest of the work. If I am right, it would help to see a specimen machine-translated example. The example you have given of a "raw translation" is not translated at all, it is in Spanish. Maproom (talk) 08:39, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    – and your example of an "original translation" was created in English, as one might expect of an article concerning the creation of the US constitution. Maproom (talk) 09:09, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
For advice on translating from other languages into English, see Wikipedia:Translation. For advice on translating from other languages into English, also see Wikipedia:Translate us. Please note that Wikipedia:Translation says "Wikipedia consensus is that an unedited machine translation, left as a Wikipedia article, is worse than nothing." --David Biddulph (talk) 09:16, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Timeline errors

    Could someone fix the errors in User:Tomcat7/Sandbox1? Regards.--Tomcat (7) 10:01, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The syntax required is described at Help:EasyTimeline syntax, but (for the first error at least) the error message is self-explanatory. The error message says "Period attribute 'from' invalid. Specify year >= 1800." because Help:EasyTimeline syntax#DateFormat tells you that "this format is only allowed for dates starting from 01/01/1800" and you had tried to use "01/01/1700". --David Biddulph (talk) 10:23, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
