The Toyota Yaris (XP150) is the third generation of the Yaris which is based on the XP150 Vios, a subcompact car produced and sold by Toyota in China and Southeast Asia since 2013. It made its public debut at the Auto Shanghai in April 2013. It was first launched for the Asian market – including China, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brunei, the Philippines, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The XP150 Yaris hatchback is larger and longer than the unrelated XP130 Vitz or Yaris hatchback, which is sold in Japan, North America, Europe and Australasia. The XP150 Yaris hatchback is also marketed as the Yaris Sport in Chile since 2014, and in Mexico and Argentina from 2016, where it is imported from Thailand.[1][2] In Chile and Mexico, it replaced the XP130 Vitz-based Yaris hatchback.
Regions
China
The Chinese market also released the regular XP90 Vitz-based Yaris produced locally by the GAC Toyota joint venture. China also sells the XP150 model as the Yaris L, available in 1.3- 6NR-FE and 1.5-liter 7NR-FE versions.[3] The facelift Yaris L was unveiled at the April 2016 Auto China. In 2016, a facelift was conducted by the GAC Toyota joint venture, and a sedan version was added based on the Toyota Vios sedan.
Thailand
In Thailand, this Yaris was released in October 2013, using the 1.2-liter 3NR-FE engine, granting the Yaris as part of the "eco-car" program in Thailand. Models offered are as follows: J ECO, J, E, G and TRD Sportivo.[4]
Philippines
The third generation Yaris was launched in the Philippines in April 2014 and sold in two trim levels: the 1.3 E and the 1.5 G, with the same engine as the Vios with the 1NZ-FE which is the 1.5 liter engine and the 2NZ-FE which is the 1.3 liter engine, available in 2 engine grades but the transmission differs, in the 1.3 line-up it can be paired with a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed automatic for the 1.5 liter variant 4 speed automatic is the only option of transmission. In late 2016 both the Yaris and the Vios were upgraded with new engines and transmissions standard on all variants are the new Dual VVT-i engines which are the 2NR-FE for the 1.3 engine and the 1NR-FE for the 1.5 engine replacing the 4 speed automatic with the new 7 speed CVT along with a new mirror link head unit.
Indonesia
The XP150 Yaris was unveiled for the Indonesian market in December 2013, and launched on March 17, 2014, which is assembled in Karawang, Indonesia. It uses the 1.5-liter 1NZ-FE engine. Trim levels offered are: E, G and TRD Sportivo with manual or automatic transmission.
The XP150 model received an update on November 3, 2016 with the new 1.5-liter 2NR-FE engine from the Indonesian-spec second generation Sienta. The automatic transmission was replaced with CVT. The base model E and mid-level G got only restyled alloy wheels, but the TRD Sportivo gained slightly different fog light housings on the front bumper, and black roof spoiler with red inner side.

Yaris Heykers
Together with the updated standard Yaris, Toyota Indonesia introduced the crossover-like variant, Yaris Heykers in late 2016. It came with different front and rear bumper designs, the addition of black overfenders, roof side ornaments, and higher but stiffer TRD springs. The Heykers variant was discontinued in January 2018.[5]
After the production of Yaris Heykers in Indonesia discontinued, Toyota South Africa offers the similar concept to the Heykers, called Yaris Cross based on the facelifted regular Yaris Hatchback.[6]
Yaris ATIV
The Yaris ATIV sedan was launched in Thailand on August 15, 2017, using the same 1.2 liter engine as the Thai market XP150 model Yaris hatchback, with updated bodywork (later used in the facelifted regular Yaris). The Yaris ATIV is positioned below the Vios in its sedan lineup.
Models offered are as follows: J ECO, J, E, G and S. The ATIV uses the XP150 Vios platform and roof, but with the front end design cues from the facelifted Yaris hatchback, and its own newly-designed tail.
It was launched in Singapore on December 14, 2017 with the Vios naming instead of Yaris ATIV, albeit with a larger, more powerful 1.5 liter 2NR-FE engine. It is offered in E and G grades.[7][8] It was also unveiled in India as the Yaris sedan on February 7, 2018 at the Auto Expo 2018. For the Indonesian market, the Yaris ATIV is sold as the Vios and was launched on April 3, 2018. The Indonesian market Yaris ATIV-based Vios is locally assembled at the Karawang plant. Meanwhile in Brunei, the Yaris ATIV-based Vios was launched in May 2018, followed the facelifted Yaris Hatchback. The Yaris ATIV-based Vios was also launched in the Philippines on July 19, 2018 and in Malaysia on November 22, 2018 at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show.
For the general export market, the Yaris ATIV is simply called Yaris Sedan. It's sold in some Asian, Middle East, and Latin American countries. In Costa Rica, it's marketed as Yaris Advance. The engine choice is either 1.3 1NR-FE liter or 1.5 liter 2NR-FE matched to the 5-speed manual, or 7-speed simulated automatic CVT. The base model comes with 2 SRS Airbags, the rests of the line up come with 7 SRS Airbags. All models have standard ABS with EBD and BA, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC). The higher grade model has fog lights, auto climate control AC with digital display, and smart engine Start/Stop button. Paddle Shift and Eco/Sport Drive Mode are installed on the higher grade model with CVT.
For the Brazilian market, the locally built Yaris Sedan is offered in XL, XS, and XLS model grades. The XL can be purchased with either manual or automatic CVT, while the mid-level XS and sunroof-equipped XLS are CVT only. The Yaris Sedan line up in Argentina is slightly different with the manual only XL, and manual or CVT XLS.
- India
The Yaris Sedan was launched in India during the 2018 Auto Expo in February, and marketed from May of the same year. This so-called Yaris only, since the Yaris hatchback is not sold in the country, comes with a 1.5 liter petrol engine that produces 106 hp. The car is available in J, G, V and VX model grades. All the variants are available with choice of either a 6 speed manual or automatic CVT. The standard features include 7 SRS Airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, keyless entry, 60:40 rear seat split, coloured MID, projector headlamps and manual driver seat height adjustment. Alloy wheels are standard on the V and top of the line VX. Exclusive features for the VX are 7 inch touchscreen system with air gesture control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), traction control system, reversing camera with front and rear parking sensors, leather interior, electric driver seat adjustment, ceiling-mounted rear passenger AC, and rear sunshade. The Indian VX is the most luxurious version of all Yaris Sedan and Vios ever built.
Facelift
The facelifted XP150 model Yaris hatchback was launched in Thailand on September 14, 2017. It comes with the same front fascia as the Yaris ATIV sedan, with the taillights inspired by the E180 Auris. Model grades are J ECO, J, E and G.
While the facelifted Yaris hatchback and Yaris ATIV-based Vios have slightly different styling, but they are still similar to the European-made Aygo which based on the Peugeot 107/108 and Citroën C1.
The facelift model Yaris Hatchback comes with standard ABS, 7 SRS airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and Hill-Start Assist (HSA) for all model grades.
In the Philippines, it was released on December 20, 2017 and offered in 1.3 E and 1.5 S trim levels.
The facelifted Yaris hatchback was also launched in South Africa on February 8, 2018. For the first time, the Yaris hatchback for the South African market is imported from Thailand. It replaced the XP130 Vitz-based Yaris hatchback. Models offered are Xi, XS, Sport, and Cross.
The facelifted Yaris hatchback was launched in Indonesia on February 20, 2018. It is locally assembled the at Karawang plant. Trim levels are E, G and TRD Sportivo with manual or CVT transmission.[9] The mid-level G shares fog lights and 16-inch alloy wheels with the top-of-the-line TRD Sportivo, but still has rear drum brakes. Full body kits, rear solid disc brake, smart engine start/stop button, optitron combination meter, and automatic climate control air-conditioner are exclusively reserved for the TRD Sportivo.
In Brunei, the Yaris Hatchback is offered as the mid and high grades. The high grade model has similar interior equipment to the Indonesian TRD Sportivo, but comes with 15-inch alloy wheels and without body kits.[10]
Replacing the XP130 Vitz-based Yaris, the facelift model Yaris XP150 is also sold in Latin American region. In Mexico, the Yaris line up includes the Yaris Hatchback, the Yaris ATIV-based Sedan, and the Mazda 2-based Yaris R Sedan.
Model grades and equipment for the Yaris Hatchback are varies across the countries. In Brazil, the locally-built cars are sold as 1.3 XL, 1.5 XS, and 1.5 XLS. Meanwhile in Argentina, the trim levels are XS, XLS, and S. All models are powered by the 1.5 litre engine.
