Tebhaga Express (Bengali: তেভাগা এক্সপ্রেস) is an express train belonging to Eastern Railway Zone that runs between Kolkata and Balurghat. It is operated with 13161/13162 train numbers on a hexa-weekly basis.

Overview

The train is named after the Tebhaga movement of Bengal, as the strike also took place in Balurghat.

It runs on a hexa-weekly basis and connects important stations such as Barddhaman, Shantiniketan, Malda Town and Buniadpur. It is a fully day train providing reserved and unreserved coaches and as well as Tatkal scheme. The train is known for its punctuality and cleanliness.

The 13161/KOAA-BLGT Tebhaga Express has a average speed of 46 km/h and covers 441 km in 9h 40m. The 13162/BLGT-KOAA Tebhaga Express has a average speed of 50 km/h and covers same distance in 8h 55m.

From Platform #3 of Kolkata, the train departs at 12:55 IST and arrives at Platform #1 of Balurghat at 22:35 IST. From Platform #1 of Balurghat, the train departs at 5:30 IST and arrives at Platform #4 of Kolkata at 14:25 IST.

Traction

As the route is under electrification, a Barddhaman loco shed based ALCO-251C Indian locomotive class WDM-3A diesel locomotive pulls the train to its destination.
