'Do Not Delete Robert Brizel I am one of Wikipedia's principal boxing writers, photographers and contributors. I get millions of hits each day on my Saddoboxing website. In another smile of WIki stupidity, some dodo deleted my Henry Hascup boxing historian) entry on Wikipedia, citing my own article on my own site as a a copyrighjt infringement of myself! In fact, Wiki was written first, and my Saddoboxing article on Hascup was written thereafter. Many of articles are written specifically to provide Wiki references when no other sources are available......Robert

Sorry Robert, whether or not it is deleted isn't up to me. I only brought up the fact that there were no independent sources on the article. It looks like a lot of people have been sending you links and giving advice on how to show notability so you'd be better off asking for help from them; I'm still pretty new here. I actually do have another question (see I told you I would). I've used the lists with 'all articles needing copyedit' and 'all articles needing to be wikified' to find pages to work on. Do you know if there's a place to find all of those kind of lists; The ones that show of all pages with a certain kind of tag on them? I'd like to look through those because they're a great source for finding pages to fix, and that way I can learn some different ways to contribute too. Wikification of Wilton Lackaye

Particularly the article was missing a large number of Wikilinks that should have been added. That message seems a bit harsh. Whatever happened to wp:AGF? I was focusing mainly on sourcing when I was checking for notability. Out of the 4 sources on the page, 2 were Myspace pages and 1 was a blog. Most of the results from searching the band name were youtube videos or pages that just list the albums. Based on that and the fact that none of the individual band members were notable, I thought it didn’t pass notability guidelines. I didn’t realize that the notability guidelines for music were less strict than others, so I will look over the guideline more closely, but I don’t think it was “ridiculous” to think that band might not be notable. The Fire Engines - a band that had hit albums/singles in 1980/81, with lots of coverage out there (e.g. [1]). Myspace - a website launched in 2003. There was already an Allmusic link in the external links that amply demonstrated that the band passes several of our notability criteria, such as releases on important independent labels, and at least one of the members is individually notable - we just don't have articles on them yet. AGF is all well and good, but we get articles deleted because people make snap judgments on articles, and I pointed this out in the hope that it won't happen again. How any band from the early 1980s can be a 'Myspace band' is beyond me, that's what I found ridiculous. Regards. --Michig (talk) 17:26, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

I've looked through your contributions and they're just loaded with copyright violations. Maybe you weren't aware of what that means, but you need to check this page and the Terms of Use, then fix all of these... if it means deleting them, then fine. I wouldn't do this if it weren't so serious... you add a lot of good things to the encyclopaedia so I'm pretty sure it's just a misunderstanding, but please, fix this problem quickly. Please don’t do template edits beyond your level of competence

You recently added a {{Reflist}} tag to the {{Pussy Riot member}} template (which was not intended to have a reflist) without bothering to check what it would look like on the pages transcluding it (which have their own reflists). While this fixed the error notice when viewing the template directly, it caused style/layout errors on the including pages that induced other editors to remove the reference to this template entirely without checking. Fixing all this took more work than I should have had to do. In the future, please learn what the <noinclude></noinclude> and <includeonly></includeonly> tags do before making edits that require their use.

Over the 30+ year Reggie Foutain started a company of his namesake. Has personally won 100s of races. Hold the water off shore speed record for v bottom racing boats (177mph). Is a living legend in the power boat arena and is about to have a 40 year biography released about him. His competitor Don Aranow has a wiki page and he's been dead for over a decade. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Aronow Google Reggie Fountain articles and you will get over 20 years of news to cite. There are dozens of YouTube interviews and racing clips to support his achievements. Do not because of me being a novice at writing a wiki page delete or discredit a man worth being written about on many topics. If the statements you make are true, that by googling Reggie Fountain I can find articles about him, I suggest you take some time to read over the Wikipedia guidelines for creating the biography of a living person. These guidelines can be found at the following links: WP:BLP WP:Afc WP:REF. Like your chat room came to the consensus that Reggie Fountain was notable and worthy of a wikipedia page, "our chat room" (or the editors here at wikipedia) has come to the consensus that certain criteria need to be met in order to have a page posted on this website. Hello WaldeBeck! The "new unreviewed article" tag will be removed when more editors have gotten a chance to look over your newly uploaded article. An editor could remove the new unreviewed article tag and give the article different, more specific tags relating to the content of your article. Right now I would hold off on removing the unreviewed article tag (although the article looks pretty good from what I've seen) and give it at least one month from when you uploaded the article before removing it. Have you checked out https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page? To the best of my knowledge, all photos uploaded to wikipedia articles must first be uploaded to wikimedia commons. I have never uploaded a photo before, so I couldn't tell you exactly how to do that...but I am almost certain that that is the reason you are having trouble uploading the photo you want. Chikara Season One

Chikara Season One is one topic and is related to Chikara. If I was to break it into sections, it would be choppy and possibly confuse the reader, as many different stories are being told within the course of one year. The stories are often intertwined and interconnected, adding another difficulty to adding sections. I just wanted to give you a heads up that creating the page for Chikara, and having your user name and information be solely dedicated to your work with Chikara, is a clear violation of WP:COI. The page I just linked notes, "when advancing outside interests is more important to an editor than advancing the aims of Wikipedia, that editor stands in a conflict of interest." Your profile content reads, "BabsChikara (also known as just Babs) is the creatrix, hostess, editor, and producer of CHIKARA in 15 Minutes or Less, a weekly CHIKARA/Wrestling is news podcast. She also created, maintains, and produced the UStream channel, The CHIKArmed Forces Network, to stream #IAmCHIKARA rallies and other events. In addition, she is a writer and maintains the website Writing Femme." It is clear to me from your personal page that you have a vested interest in seeing Chikara promoted via wikipedia. While I do not have any intentions of deleting your articles, someoneelse will surely figure this out and suggest that your articles be deleted. I suggest you read up on the wikipedia policies regarding WP:neutrality and tailor your personal page and the pages you have written regarding CHIKARA accordingly.

How is it statistically viable to delete Carla Howe article

I am looking at this from a google algorithm approach. Mainly, I am basing it on the statistical odds of a google search of "Carla Howe."

WP:BLP1E notes the following:

This section of the Wikipedia biography of a living person policies states that an article should be removed from Wikipedia if, "reliable sources cover the person only in the context of a single event" IMHO, Carla Howe, is covered only in the context of a single type of event-hooking up with celebrities. Therefore, she is not notable by wikipedia's standards. If you disagree with this, I completely understand, and I will not attempt to edit or remove your page any further. Your justification for adding Howe is solid-a google search of her name will direct a person to information regarding her alleged affairs. I am simply arguing that the fact that she is known for being promiscuous is not notable enough for her to have her on personal wikipedia page. OK, cool, this is my first go at it and since I spent a number of hours on it, I am going to give it my best shot. The thing that got me really thinking this should be a wiki page is because if someone Googles "carla howe" using a tor project browser then you will see literally the top three automatic searches are "carla howe instagram" then "Carla Howe Wikipedia" is the number 2 searched topic then the number three is carla howe amir khan... Which is pretty much how I got into this because I figured if google is saying that the public has such a strong interest in this individual that the second most requested topic carla howe wiki...then it should be done. Also looking at the Google Analytic trend over the last 90 days as you can see her name is starting to pick up steam. Both due to affairs and her Playboy modeling. I think the things you recently added to her page definitely improve the article, so I commend you for that. However I think you are missing my point, and I don't agree with your logic whatsoever. You said, "I figured if google is saying that the public has such a strong interest in this individual" that she deserves a wikipedia page. Nowhere in WP:BLP does it say that "if a person has a lot of hits on google, you should probably go ahead and make them a wikipedia page." Further, your google trend results are completely insubstantial. The google trend graph notes that, "numbers represent search interest relative to the highest point on the chart. If at most 10% of searches for the given region and time frame were for "pizza," we'd consider this 100. This doesn't convey absolute search volume." From this I do not think google trends is a means to justify creating a page for this person. Being "googled" does not make you noteworthy, the actions that a person does in his or her lifetime are what make a person noteworthy and this is clearly explained in the WP:BLP guidelines. I've removed the citation style tag. The references section looks much better so I commend you for that. The only other piece of advice I would give you is to go through your citations and add titles to them. You will see in red on several of the citations "missing or empty|title=..I am not familiar with how you cited your sources, it looks far more complicated than the method I typically use. The easiest way to cite something (lets say from the web for example) is to click the "Cite" button on the top right corner or the edit box. A drop down menu with the word "Templates" with an arrow pointing down will pop up underneath the edit tool bar. From here, click on "cite web". A pop up box will appear that will ask you to type in some information (including the title of the source you are citing) and then it will generate a citation for you. I hope this info helps! Dan Senor

I don't see how Dowd's quote violates WP:RECENT. Senor was an advisor in Iraq during the Bush administration -- the first Bush administration at that. And Dowd doesn't say he was "responsible for the war in Iraq." Nor does she say "the war in Iraq was the biggest foreign policy bungle in US history." She says it was "one of the the biggest foreign policy bungles in US history." I honestly don't understand why you think Dowd "attacked" Senor here. What she wrote is valid criticism -- criticism which, I remind you again, appeared in a reputable U.S. newspaper. I don't want to get in an edit war either. How about if I reinsert the quote and make it clear Dowd wrote about Senor's role in the early stages of the Iraq war? The Iraq war is a continuously unfolding fiasco, 14 years in the making, but I agree, Senor isn't responsible for all of it. I'll make that clear in my revision to the article. " Using this as a justification for keeping the quote on Senor's page violates WP:RECENT. There are multiple pages on wikipedia that this quote would be more appropriate on. For example the Iraq War page would be a better fit, or even better, the Criticism of the Iraq War page. Israel, our best ally in the region, treated with indifference bordering on contempt by the Obama administration." U.S. foreign policy, he said, "needs moral clarity and firmness of purpose."

The article is initially about comments made by Paul Ryan at the Values Voter Summit held in Washington DC. Dowd's comments proceeding the following way:

Ryan was moving his mouth, but the voice was the neocon puppet master Dan Senor. The hawkish Romney adviser has been secunded to manage the running mate and graft a Manichaean worldview onto the foreign affairs neophyte.

Her article starts with Paul Ryan's comments, but then directs negative criticism about these comments to his “neocon puppet master” Dan Senor. I don't see that as "valid criticism," I see that as a WP:ATTACK.

Further, at what point in this article does Dowd ever cite a credible source? I understand that in one of your earlier comments, you used the following rational to keep the information on the page. “What she wrote is valid criticism -- criticism which, I remind you again, appeared in a reputable U.S. newspaper.” I would ask you to take a look at this article and this article. I think this makes it pretty clear that just because a piece of information comes from a “reputable source” like the New York Times, does not make it factually accurate. From WP:PUBLICFIGURE: "If you cannot find multiple reliable third-party sources documenting the allegation or incident, leave it out." At any point in this article does Dowd make a tangible connection between Senor and “one of the biggest foreign policy bungles in US history?" While Dowd’s comments are not supported by facts, there have been several other reputable sources that have published articles regarding the public out lash against Dowd for her comments about Senor in this article up for discussion. See [2] and [3].

While combing through Dowd’s article, I also came across the exact same quote that you recently “paraphrased” into Senor's article that you cited from Chandrasekaran’s book Imperial life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone. The information you added was “Chandrasekaran wrote about Senor, ‘Off the record: Paris is burning,’ he told (reporters). ‘On the record: Security and stability are returning to Iraq.” First, by stating “Chandrasekaran wrote about Senor” and then quoting “Off the record: Pairs is burning,’ he told (reporters),” this gives your citation a false sense of credibility. Senor didn’t tell Chandrasekran that “Paris was burning” he, allegedly, told unnamed reporters this. Secondly, this quote is nearly identical to the one included in Dowd's NY Times article that has been the topic of this debate from the get go. From (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/16/opinion/sunday/dowd-neocons-slither-back.html?_r=0): “Off the record, Paris is burning,” Senor told a group of reporters a year into the war. “On the record, security and stability are returning to Iraq.”

I think the fact that you added an additional quote from Dowd’s controversial article, claiming it came from Chandraeskrana’s book, while we are still going back and forth about this initial quote from Dowd, is inappropriate. With that being said, I am respectfully removing the material you added to Senor's page and if you add the material back, I intend to file a case to WP:ANI.

An article of this nature is not permitted on Wikipedia and certainly does not belong on a BLP. Below is a list of Wikipedia policies it violates:

• A negative comment (with loaded words) made by one of Senor’s critics is not notable, see WP:NOTE (events) and WP:UNDUE

Wikipedia is not a news source: it takes more than just routine news reports about a single event or topic to constitute significant coverage-tabloid journalism is not significant coverage. Even a large number of news reports that provide no critical analysis of the event is not considered significant coverage.

• WP:VALID Wikipedia policy does not state or imply that every minority view or extraordinary claim needs to be presented. Good and unbiased research, based upon the best and most reputable authoritative sources available, helps prevent NPOV disagreements.

• WP:IMPARTIAL states that editors must not quote directly from participants engaged in a heated dispute; but instead, summarize and present arguments in an impartial tone.

• The quotes are WP:COATRACK for commentary on the Iraq war. Senor’s page, or any BLP for that matter, are not vehicles for spreading claims about the Iraq war failure. As stated before, perhaps criticisms and quotes of the war in Iraq should be added to the Criticism of the Iraq War page, where it would fit more appropriately. When a biography of a living person is a coatrack, it is a problem that requires immediate action. Items may be true and sourced, but if a biography of a living person is essentially a coatrack, it needs to be fixed. Removing the quote will prevent a potential WP:ATP.

• Maureen Dowd's opinion that the Iraq war was one of the biggest foreign policy bungles in US history is of no importance to Senor's BLP. Senor is not responsible for the war in Iraq, and it is a stretch to say that the war in Iraq was “one of the biggest foreign policy bungles in US history.” It’s not Wikipedia’s job to be sensationalist, see WP:BLP

• Senor's BLP is not the place to cover an event currently unfolding in the Iraq, see WP:RECENT. Though your material wasn't a recent quote, you supported your add by claiming, "with what's unfolding in the Middle East, aren;t Dowd's words truer than ever." Rather than go to such lengths to discredit a reporter for the NY Times, maybe you ought to ask yourself why you have this burning need to defend Dan Senor. I mean, come on... This is weird. I am not saying the quote "does not belong in a public forum." I have suggested several different pages in my previous comments that the quote could be included in (i.e. the Criticism of the Iraq War page). My argument is that because the article up for discussion is so biased towards blaming the Iraq war on Senor et al, and because of the way it is written, that it should not be cited on a WP BLP. There are certain standards that need to be met in order to include material a on a WP BLP, this article does not meet several of these criteria and, therefore, does not belong on Senor's page. Thank you for the edits you made to my article on Arthur T McCormack. Last week, I moved an article about his father, Joseph McCormack, from my sandbox to the main space. That's the only thing I've done so far on Wikipedia. I'm not really an editor; I've learned only enough to add that one article. This morning, I wanted to start the article about Arthur McCormack. I meant to begin it in my sandbox. But, somehow I created something in the public viewing space. I can probably 'finish' it this week, but I'm wondering if perhaps it wouldn't be better to move it back to my sandbox and work on it there. Hi Drvalsummers, I would suggest working on the article in your sandbox. Once you have a final product in your sandbox, you can then just copy and paste it into the Wikipedia article. Leaving the current Wikipedia article is fine for now - just make sure to update it when you are finished. I think that would be the best option! Good luck! You can withdraw your nomination for sure, but I'm not sure you should close the AfD per WP:NAC. Another editor SwisterTwister did !vote that the article should be deleted so such a close is possibly contentious. You reviewed Swoon Editions, without tagging it for any problems; I think there is so little indication of significance that I have listed it for SpeedyA7.

You also reviewed Melissa Aldana without adding any tags, even though there was only a single unsatisfactory reference to "webarchive", which is fact turns out to be an archive of the unreliable theculturetrip.com/ . If the iformation there is accurate, she is in fact notable, but this is a BLP, and it needed to be tagged for better sources. (Its also a close paraphrase of the source) . Similarly Church of the Immaculate Conception, Żurrieq is notable, but the very brief stub had no third party sources, just its own web page. Major sourcing problems like this need to be tagged. The objkect of patrolling recent changes is not just to see if the article should or should not be deleted, but to indicate at least the most critical problems. Hi. I removed the WP:BLPPROD tag you place on Peter P. Gudo. BLP PROD requires that there be no sources of any kind in the article. The article did have sources, and so it is not eligible for that deletion that method. It did have a previous AfD, so I have tagged it per CSD G4, but you should generally not tag an article with BLP PROD the same minute it is created, even if it is eligible. Hello Comatmebro. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that there is consensus that we shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1) and/or content (CSD A3) moments after they are created, as you did at Booso booso and Amrinder Nagra. It is also suggested that pages that might meet CSD A7 criteria not be tagged for deletion immediately after they are created. It's usually best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course still be tagged and deleted immediately. I would recommend tagging it as a current event and watching it. It's definitely covered in reliable sources, so I'd wait a few days and see whether there's sustained coverage, then potentially tag for AfD if not - the main concern would likely be WP:NOTNEWS as an event with no sustaining notability. In this case, it's a non-routine and fairly major event so I would expect it will have some lasting notability. That remains to be seen though. Tsendiyn Munkh-Orgil is 100% notable

I feel a need to tell you that your attempt to prod delete the article on Tsendiyn Munkh-Orgil was totally unwise. This type of behavior especially against new users is what keeps Wikipedia with too few editors, and in this case reinforces systemic bias. The foriegn minister of virtually any country is default notable, one in a country entering the news at the level of Mongolia is totally notable without question. I was able to find sources from multiple foriegn ministries, from Reuters, from Bloomberg and so on. I just hope that the editor involved will not be forever scarred away. Dear Comatmebro, I noticed you put a "needs notability established" template on the George Makdisi article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Makdisi? I put the first footnote on the article. Would this be enough to establish notability? My notion is that subsequently I and possibly other Wikipedia editors could add additional footnoting/references, but in the meantime I would like to remove the template. What do you think? Also, notice that five books are mentioned in the article as being authored by the article subject. Would this authorship be enough to establish notability? Hey, Greg! The issue I had with the page when I looked for sources is all that I could find were obituary articles. While this is an indeed a source, it's not one that can really stand as the sole source of a WP:BLP. I would compare it to using Facebook or iMDB as a source for a wiki article (it's a source, but not a great source, does that make sense?). What you can do to establish notability is find additional sources, above and beyond the obituary page, that explain why Mr. Makdisi is notable. The books are a great start, but a lot of those sources are simply "hey you can buy this book here" and again, those don't really explain why he is notable. You are free to remove the notability tag (I won't add it back), but I can't guarantee someone else won't come along, see the same issues I saw, and simply request that the page be deleted. Hello Comatmebro. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that there is consensus that we shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1) and/or content (CSD A3) moments after they are created, as you did at K-931. It's usually best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course still be tagged and deleted immediately. I am an aerospace engineer and not an expert editor like you on wikipedia. • Hello, Rawad00. An admin, Drewmutt, took a different approach - instead of deleting that article, he/she moved it to a draft, at Draft:Philippe K Ziade. This will allow you (and others) to work on the article before it "goes live" and is held up to more scrutiny. The cut-down article there now is much better. Your first step should be to collect sources that are independent (not written by the subject or his company) and which discuss him in some detail. Then write the article based on what those articles say, without adding your own personal knowledge or point of view (that is often the hard part). Also, you should look at cutting down the excessive list of external links; it is not apparent why most of them are pertinent (there is a good guideline on what should not be linked at "Links normally to be avoided "). --Gronk Oz (talk) 01:52, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

I tried to do a rewrite for the first section on there tonight, but I failed. That last sentence that mentions the google scholar search needs to be cut and moved in to that first paragraph. Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. ()

June backlog drive

Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

New technology, new rules

• New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
• Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
• Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.

Editathons

• Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

The Signpost

• The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. If you have special messages to be published, or if you would like to submit an article (one about NPR perhaps?), don't hesitate to contact the editorial team here.

It's notable because of the long Esquire article (see sources), i.e., nontrivial coverage in a nationally distributed publication. And since that coverage came some time after the event, that's continuing notability.

Per WP:NFILM. Sources provided do not cover the topic in depth (clicking on the websites, they are non-noteable promo websites), nor seem to be reliable. Just because there is a notable cast member it does not mean an unreleased film should receive it's own wp page. "To presume notability, reliable sources should have significant coverage." I don't see this film passing that very first test for WP:NFILM, not to mention several other tests that follow after that (not widely distributed because it's not out yet, not historically notable, no major awards). There are many wikipedia pages that do not have really noteworthy references or major Hollywood announcements. This is an independent film, a film with a very small budget, limited news coverage, and minimal attention. I can think of several wikipedia pages about minimal independent films that have at least reached the filming stage. Why can't we support small, unknown films? The film has purpose, as it depicts a love story during the Greek War of Independence. Just because millions/billions of people do not know about the film, does not mean its unimportant. This is an independent film, of course it doesnt have large megacorporation coverage. There are hundreds/thousands of low budget independent films with no major Hollywood coverage, many have their own wiki pages with no major promo websites. NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018

Hello Comatmebro, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.

Project news

• The New Page Feed now has a new "Articles for Creation" option which will show drafts instead of articles in the feed, this shouldn't impact NPP activities and is part of the WMF's AfC Improvement Project.

As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.

• There are a number of coordination tasks for New Page Patrol that could use some help from experienced reviewers. See Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Coordination#Coordinator tasks for more info to see if you can help out.

Other

• A new summary page of reliable sources has been created; Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources/Perennial sources, which summarizes existing RfCs or RSN discussions about regularly used sources.

Moving to Draft and Page Mover

• Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
• If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
• Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
• The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js^(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
• The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.

List of other useful scripts for New Page Reviewing

Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget. In terms of other gadgets for NPR, HotCat is worth turning on. It allows you to easily add, remove, and change categories on a page, with name suggestions. MoreMenu also adds a bunch of very useful links for diagnosing and fixing page issues. User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to your common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page) User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (Recommended 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50). User:Primefac/revdel.js(info): Is requesting revdel complicated and time consuming? This script helps simplify the process. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your diff IDs and you can drop them into the script Popups and it will create a revdel request for you. User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js(info): Creates a "Page Curation" link to Special:NewPagesFeed up near your sandbox link. User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion. User:Evad37/rater.js(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

Project updates

• ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
• There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

New scripts

• User:Enterprisey/cv-revdel.js^(info) — A new script created for quickly placing {{copyvio-revdel}} on a page.

Hello! While I agree that BAT! are a new band, I believe the page should be allowed to remain as they do meet the criteria of notability due to it featuring members of other notable bands as well as their being signed to a major record label. The article can always be expanded upon as time goes on. But I am definitely open to any suggestions you may have on how I can improve the article so that it may remain. manager notability

With other examples at Category:American_music_managers could you explain what you would consider criteria inseparable from the clients a manager works with which establish their notability? That's pretty much why music managers become notable, because they manage a variety of notable people. BZM's become a subject of focus now that he's had 2 very notable ones. Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Edits to Koch Industries

Hi Comatmebro! Can you explain this edit[4]? Your edit summary says "Removed per Wp:NPOV" but its not actually possible to remove coverage in WP:RS like that under NPOV, you can only add more sources or balance existing ones. There is no ground for a wholesale removal on NPOV grounds. Likewise this edit [5] says "Removed content from non neutral source" but I'm at a total loss as to what you could be referring to as a non neutral source. New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Comatmebro,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 813 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 861 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

Another Koch question

Hi Comatmebro, can you explain this edit [17]? You seem to have removed a tag without addressing it... In fact you did the opposite, you removed a tag which said that the lead did not adequately summarize the article as well as removing all mentions of environmental and political issues from the lead. My mistake. I was interpreting the tag as "the lede is not concise" and tried to tighten it up. Re-reading the tag that's not what it's suggests - your right it's the opposite. Hello Comatmebro,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000 at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination

MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.

Open letter to the WMF

The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.

TIP - Reviewing by subject

Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.

New reviewers

The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

Hello Comatmebro,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

• There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
• Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
• Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
• This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.
