User talk:The Dancing Badger
Hi Badger,
Recently, I've begun work expanding Irritator, an article you created back in 2004. Input on how to proceed with this article is greatly appreciated, and I'd like to have your advice on how to expand or improve the article. NowCommons: Image:Thira.JPG
[edit]Image:Thira.JPG is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:Image:Thira (crater).jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all MediaWiki wiki's. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[Image:Thira (crater).jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 17:35, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Ameta
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Ameta, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. GA sweeps: 4 Vesta
[edit]Hello, as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force, I have conducted a Good Article reassessment of 4 Vesta, to which you have been a major contributor. I have a few concerns that should be addressed if the article is to remain listed as a GA. If you are able to help out, the reassessment can be found here. Thanks, GaryColemanFan (talk) 18:42, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Just a quick reminder that this article is undergoing a GA reassessment as part of the GA sweeps. It has been on hold for over two weeks, but several concerns remain. If they are not addressed soon, I will have to delist the article. Because it is part of the Main asteroid belt Featured Topic, this would also mean that the Featured Topic would be delisted. There's not much left to do, so any help you can provide would be great. The reassessment page is here. Thanks, GaryColemanFan (talk) 22:48, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Nereidsim.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Nereidsim.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:12, 24 April 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 (talk) 12:12, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of The Magic Box (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
[edit]The article The Magic Box (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- non notable fictional magic shop
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Stormbay (talk) 22:01, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Ballon.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Ballon.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:04, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:45 eugenia-01.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:45 eugenia-01.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello The Singing Badger! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 4 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 12 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
- Syd Field - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Charles Beauclerk, Earl of Burford - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:4486 mithra.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:4486 mithra.jpg.
As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 17:50, 21 March 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Nomination of Amado Nervo for deletion
[edit]A discussion has begun about whether the article Amado Nervo, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Amado Nervo until a concensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.
You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 18:13, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:WizardOfOzTechnicolor.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:WizardOfOzTechnicolor.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 03:15, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Main page appearance
[edit]Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this article know that it will be appearing as the main page featured article on April 23, 2011. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 23, 2011. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured article director, Raul654 (talk · contribs). If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! The Shakespeare authorship question is the argument that someone other than William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon wrote the works traditionally attributed to him. Proponents (called "anti-Stratfordians") say that Shakespeare was a front to shield the identity of the real author or authors, who for some reason did not want or could not accept public credit. Although the idea has attracted much public interest, all but a few Shakespeare scholars and literary historians consider it a fringe belief, and for the most part disregard it except to rebut or disparage the claims. Despite the scholarly consensus, the controversy has spawned a vast body of literature, and more than 70 authorship candidates have been proposed, including Francis Bacon, the 6th Earl of Derby, Christopher Marlowe, and the 17th Earl of Oxford. In 2010 James S. Shapiro surveyed the topic in Contested Will: Who Wrote Shakespeare?, in which he criticised academia for ignoring the topic and effectively surrendering the field to anti-Stratfordians, marking the first time a recognised Shakespeare scholar has devoted a book to the topic. Filmmaker Roland Emmerich's next movie, Anonymous, starring Rhys Ifans and Vanessa Redgrave, portrays Oxford as the real author. (more...)
Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity
[edit]Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Notice of change
[edit]Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. I'm writing an academic article on people-participation in the 'production' of Shakespeare studies.
I noticed that you had recently provided some edits for the Wiki Shakespeare page, and wondered if I might ask you some questions about that?
This project is at a very early stage so I've not yet refined or worked out a fixed methodology. So the questions are also not yet fully formed. (And I am aware that you also contribute to many other pages.)
1. What motivates you specifically to contribute specifically to the Shakespeare page?
2. Do you consider that your skills in this regard are general, technical, or specialist?
3. Have you contributed to other Shakespeare-related pages?
3. What's you opinion on how the Shakespeare page has evolved over time?
4. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Shakespeare page in terms of its current form and content?
5. Who would you say are the target readers for this page?
6. What have been the advantages and/or the frustrations of working on the Shakespeare page?
7. What are your reflections on the process of wiki-engagement in terms of dialogue, connection, community and collaboration?
8. In your view, are there any other questions that ought to be considered?
Many thanks for taking the time to read this!

Speedy deletion nomination of ǃXu (god)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on ǃXu (god) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about something invented/coined/discovered by the article's creator or someone they know personally, and it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Sorry, I've declined your speedy request. A9 requires two conditions to be met. One is that the record must not be notable, and the other is that the performer has no article. Fosca does at Fosca (band). I'm not commenting about notability, but A9 doesn't apply. If you feel the record deosn't merit an article, you can still use WP:PROD or WP:AFD. - You're welcome to bin the articles for individual records - I'd agree they're a bit of an excess - but I intend to contest any attempt to delete Fosca (band), Orlando (band), Spearmint (band) or Dickon Edwards . Orlando and Spearmint both had enough and diverse music press coverage to satisfy WP:BAND point #1 "Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself." Dickon was a member of both so he also qualifies for WP:BAND under point #6 " is a musician who has been a reasonably prominent member of two or more independently notable ensembles". Charley Stone (also ex Gay Dad, ex Salad both VERY notable) was in Fosca with Dickon so Fosca also qualifies under point 6 "Is an ensemble that contains two or more independently notable musicians" Romomusicfan (talk) 18:06, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- No, don't worry - Orlando and Spearmint seem to satisfy notability. I would say, however, that I don't think Dickon Edwards can be considered a "prominent member" of Spearmint simply for having briefly played with them once or twice. Not that I have any designs on Dickon's article (YET! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAAA) The Dancing Badger (talk) 18:50, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
- Any member of any normal sized rock band would count as "reasonably prominent" under WP:BAND - see note 5 "Generally speaking, in a small ensemble, all people are reasonably-prominent, but, for example, being members of the chorus (not prominent) in two Broadway musicals (dozens of people involved) usually wouldn't be enough." Bearing this in mind, about the only Wiki-notable rock/pop band I can think of offhand where simple membership wouldn't be enough to count towards someone's two or more notable bands would be The Polyphonic Spree. 86.137.120.211 (talk) 13:09, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

The article Lyrcea has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
I can't find any mythology sources that actually say this is the case. Ovid's Metamorphoses mentions that she flees the plains of Lyrcea, but never says she was born there. The article Mommur has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
This lacks significant coverage in reliable third party sources, as required by the WP:GNG. A search shows no quality sources to establish WP:Notability, with only passing mentions.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Jontesta (talk) 16:42, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
Feedback Request
[edit]Hi there! I have recently made a request for an assessment of the article Puppetry of the Penis on WikiProject Theatre. I have been editing this article for over a month, adding almost 3000 words, new sections, an infobox, media and more references for verifiability. I noticed you were a very active (and helpful) editor of WikiProject Theatre, and was wondering if you had the time if you could have a look at the article and provide me any feedback. Any general feedback would be much appreciated and possibly an assessment of the article for importance and quality. Thank you very much. Rubyredgirl (talk) 10:25, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

Brice Stratford autobio astroturfing
[edit]The problem is not only poor sourcing, but fabricating citations, and spamming self-promotion with over 30 accounts. He gamed the system back in 2015 but now he's back with a handful of new socks and we're doing cleanup. So, some of the publications he cites are legit, others are fabricated. But even with legit publications, we don't know if he's being honest about content as he's lied about so much else. And either way, with so many policy violations, any of his sock accounts should be reverted at this point. If you want the history written about, and can do it with valid sources, that is fine, just leave this disruptive and deceptive, blocked user's self-promotion out of it. Don't let him use the 'pedia to astroturf anymore, OK? - CorbieVreccan ☊ ☼ 19:59, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- Ok, I see the depth of this. Will roll up my sleeves and get to work on rewriting/cleaning some of these articles at some point, but I don't think I have the energy tonight. The Dancing Badger (talk) 20:27, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
April 2023
[edit]Your recent editing history at Brice Stratford shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
You have removed the COI tag three times, while you are under review for COI issues and socking: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BriceStratford, reverting two editors, without consensus. Your attempt to wikilawyer is a distraction, based on ignoring the fact that you most likely should not be editing the article at all. - CorbieVreccan ☊ ☼ 18:19, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, The Dancing Badger. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Brice Stratford, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted.
You have unilaterally removed COI tags from this article four times [1], [2], [3], [4] without discussion or consensus. If you do it again, you will be reported to an administrators noticeboard and likely blocked from editing, possibly indefinitely. Softlavender (talk) 18:50, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Blocked for sockpuppetry
[edit]Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice:
{{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}
. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Iopolis until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.
