The April Fools Day celebrations of 2023 marked the twentieth year that April Fools Day was celebrated on Wikipedia.[a] Major occurrences of this year's April Fools Day celebrations included posting pictures of The Keepy Uppy Balloon and the Sacred Wombats. Similar to the past few years, joke deletion nominations were incredibly common; 196 joke deletions were logged on this page by 11:59 PM.

From April 2 to 3, Wikipedians participating in the April Fools' Day festivities held an informal vote to select the best Articles for Deletion nomination. The ChatGPT AfD won in a landslide with 14 votes. The full results are below.

"Splatfest" is named after the real Splatfest (archive) in Splatoon 3. The real Splatfest happened to coincide with "Splatfest" during April Fools'.
Today's splatfest is Nessie vs. Aliens vs. Bigfoot
Keepy Uppy Balloon vs. The Sacred Wombats!

  • The Keepy Uppy balloon served well and was moved to its permanent home.
    • Then the wombat was revived, then died.
      • A tribute to the Keepy Uppy Balloon was put at the bottom of this page.
        • The tribute was deleted
          • After the roadkill was cleared, the tribute respawned again, and was deleted again.
            • The Keepy Uppy balloon was revived :P using {{Wikipedia:April Fools/April Fools' Day 2023/The Keepy Uppy Balloon bottom right corner}}.
              • The Keepy Uppy balloon decided to have a hot new gradient.
                • Yes, even in the bottom right corner.
                  • Then it was decided for the wombats and the Keepy Uppy Balloon to have a rap battle. At the last second though, the Keepy Uppy Balloon was popped yet again and an angry ape came in its place.
                    • The sacred wombats became the scared wombats and ran away soon afterward, meaning the ape has won the rap battle.
