The Huntington Beach Fire Department is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services, 24/7, 365 for the city of Huntington Beach, California.

The Huntington Beach Fire Department was formed as an organization in 1909 with 20 volunteers. John Philip, a hardware salesman, became the first fire chief.

EMS operations consists of four full ambulances and three reserve ambulances. There are eight paramedic EMS engine companies serving Huntington Beach Fire Department.[citation needed]

Based out of 8 fire stations, The HBFD currently operates 8 paramedic engines, 2 truck companies, a light and air unit, a hazadous materials response unit, and a decontamination truck.[citation needed]

Huntington Beach Fire Department prides itself on being a class 1 fire department, a recognition bestowed on less than 1% of nationwide fire departments that exhibit the highest in protection of life and property.[1]
