This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Sports. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sports|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sports. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Shooting ranges in Norway (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

This list article comprehensively fails WP:LISTCRITERIA on the basis the article is a list of inter-wiki links to Norwegian Wikipedia.

Looking at the linked articles on NO:WP, they seem to just consist of a table of shooting ranges with name, municipality and the lat/long (which links to GeoHack).

So what we have is a list of links to pages on another wiki, which would themselves fail WP:NOTDIRECTORY here.

This is fine on no.wp if it meets their GNG. On en.wp it does not.

There's no encyclopaedic content there worth importing to en.wp which would help this page meet WP:GNG. I don't see how this page meets (or could ever meet) notability unless it could be rewritten to cover some unique or special feature of Norwegian shooting ranges that marks them out from ranges anywhere else in the world (if such a feature exists, which it probably doesn't).

I don't think any argument can be made that the no.wp links are just placeholding until equivalent articles can be created on en.wp because I can't see how a page like this would past LISTCRITERIA on en.wp. It's interesting and useful information... but for some sort of geo project. It's not encyclopaedic content. Hemmers (talk) 08:57, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result was keep‎. I see a consensus here to Keep this article and no support for Deletion other than the nominator. The article needs work but that can be addressed through editing.

There is also a strong disagreement from participants here that WP:NEWSORGINDIA applies to countries other than India. Please do not use it as a justification for deletion in future nominations. Liz Read! Talk! 01:06, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

PTV Sports (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

References do not show how this is notable. Plenty of unreliable sources and NEWSORGINDIA but nothing in-depth. Recommend a redirect to parent Pakistan Television Corporation. While I did not do so prior to the AfD, programming also needs to be removed per WP:NOTTVGUIDE. It appears that the notability of the page is attempted to be heightened by the mentions of the programs it shows. CNMall41 (talk) 23:32, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When searching for references, make sure to weed out those that apply to PTV Sports (TV program) as well. --CNMall41 (talk) 17:31, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PTV Sports (TV program) is a Filipino TV program, so obviously editors searching in Pakistani sources won't encounter such references. 2A00:F29:248:C1E5:69B9:937C:A897:D420 (talk) 16:36, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep I have added more RS.--Ameen Akbar (talk) 21:28, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

These "reliable sources" seem to fall under WP:NEWSORGINDIA. Can you point out the specific ones that show notability?--CNMall41 (talk) 05:12, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are many news articles show controversy or negitivity about channel. So, WP:NEWSORGINDIA may not apply here. This may apply when all are praising. Ameen Akbar (talk) 12:34, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is not how that works. NEWSORGINDIA has to do with the context of the article (who wrote it, is it churnalism, etc.), not whether it is positive or negative. --CNMall41 (talk) 07:18, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep NEWSORGINDIA cannot possibly apply to this article (and I'm surprised the nom hasn't received blowback for even mentioning that country's name in this nom for a Pakistani subject and network); it has enough sources within to easily pass WP:N and is by default Pakistan's main sports channel. Cull back the programming list to only cricket and soccer as a simple list and source it; that's the only true issue with this article. Nate (chatter) 00:46, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your comment is a little uncivil but I understand your concern as it has been raised several times in the past. NEWSORGINDIA has been applied to the entire subcontinent in both articles and AfD discussions. --CNMall41 (talk) 00:58, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Nate. The RfC consensus ([1]) was just about Indian mainstream media, and there was no discussion that we can apply this to whole Indian subcontinent countries (i.e., Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka). As far as I can see, only CNMall41 is trying to extend that consensus to whole South Asia as if they are part of India or these countries are in some sort of union like EU, which is not the case. I'd recommend seeking a similar consensus about Pakistani sources with evidence on WP:RSN first and then adding similar wording as a note for our reference. This is how this should work. 94.201.21.216 (talk) 16:29, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, you seem not to be familiar with the discussions. In fact, it was suggested to change the name as having "India" in the NEWSORGINDIA heading makes it seem like it is singling out a specific country and/or nationality which I don't think is proper. You are more than welcome to start a discussion but as stated, this has been applied in many AfD discussions. --CNMall41 (talk) 16:38, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This should be done if only to resolve the dispute. I read the sections in question and found no mention of countries other than India. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 22:44, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Amazing coincidence. Back to back IP addresses commenting. But, here we are. --CNMall41 (talk) 16:38, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Other than Dawn, can you link to more in-depth coverage?--CNMall41 (talk) 16:41, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your effort. What are the references that support notability? --CNMall41 (talk) 05:46, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewed during NPP. All 3 sources are from the event's official website, and I found no sources online that establish notability. '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talkcontribs) 07:17, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete Keep. I agree that there are no good sources, and that its near impossible to find a reliable source talking about the Nike Indoor Nationals. Turns out there are some good sources talking about it. A lot of @Habst's sources are about the Nike Outdoor nationals, but they still provided a good number of articles about the Indoor Nationals. The sources aren't really fully about the event specifically, but I believe they're still fine articles to use. Coulomb1 (talk) 14:20, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Keep, because the event meets WP:GNG as an important prep athletics championship. Responding to the concerns by @CanonNi and @Coulomb1, there's plenty of independent coverage from The Washington Post, New York Times, The Post-Standard, MileSplit, The Journal News, Bozeman Daily Chronicle The Cullman Times, and many more. --Habst (talk) 16:30, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All of my links were for the indoor nationals – for the outdoor nationals, there's even more coverage from LetsRun.com, Track & Field News, The Santa-Cruz Sentinel, Eugene Register-Guard, MileSplit, etc. --Habst (talk) 16:41, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I don't know how this slipped past me. I have no problem with keeping this article then. Coulomb1 (talk) 14:27, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable award show sourced mainly to the parent company Bollywood Hungama. Sources I find are all unreliable or just verification of winners. Merge with Sul Ross State Lobos. This page was created with an unconventional name when the target page already existed as a redirect. It should be merged with the target page to comply with naming standards on these types of articles (see New Mexico Lobos or Ohio State Buckeyes). JTtheOG (talk) 06:29, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result was no consensus‎. Relisting this discussion didn't bring this any closer to a consensus so I'm going to close this now. I can only echo the words of Sandstein in closing the first AFD as applying to this as well:

Three-way split between keep, merge and delete, each with good arguments. I'd normally go for merge as a compromise, but here there are also valid arguments against a merger given the length of the target article.

Those editors who are interested in a Merge can start a discussion on the article talk page. Liz Read! Talk! 23:18, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of Liverpool F.C. matches in international competitions (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

This is an unnecessary and redundant collection of matches that Liverpool have played in international competition. An article outlining the club's record in Europe already exists, we do not need a list of every single match. Considering also that the reader can learn what happened in those matches from the equivalent season articles AND from seasonal competition pages. I understand having smaller lists for clubs that don't usually play in Europe. For example, Burnley's article contains only a few matches, each of which are especially notable. But like most big English clubs, Liverpool play in Europe almost every single season; making most matches almost as notable as any domestic match. A discussion to delete this list reached no consensus just over two years ago now; but I truely believe redundant lists like this have no place on Wikipedia. • If a club has appeared in Europe, the list of their European matches exist somewhere, whether on the club page, the club in European football page, or in Liverpool's case, a validly split page dedicated to the topic. I don't understand how other users are coming to the logical fallacy that this is a directory. SportingFlyer T·C 20:38, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reply @Joseph2302: you should type into google is an encyclopaedia a database Wikipedia itself is certainly a database, where as the policy what wikipedia is not, saying it's not a database is really false to itself. Wikipedia at times is a joke in a way, I always wonder if it will last as it always asking for lots of donations! :/ Regardless and back to topic, there are millions of articles on wikipedia that are collective data. Regardless in cell form as numbers, matches of football, baseball, Ice hockey, NFL, it's full of it. You can't single this one out. Nope, you'd be deleting every page on wikipedia if you want to go that route. Govvy (talk) 21:59, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: Per WP:LISTCRITERIA, WP:NOTSTATS, and WP:NOTDIRECTORY. This is a topic better suited for other sites to list such as a stats database, not wikipedia, as it does not provide readers with context for why matches played internationallly are important to this team specifically. Don't see anything worth merging or redirecting to either, and Liverpool F.C. in international football is already quite long as is. Let'srun (talk) 18:38, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is ridiculous. Every single team that has played in Europe has one of these tables somewhere. Liverpool's is just the one that's been WP:SPLIT. SportingFlyer T·C 22:27, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Let'srun: I can't see how you can apply NOSTATS as a delete argument. The stats are explained in Liverpool F.C. in international football, therefore WP:NOSTATS is technically an invalid delete argument as clearly stated by the fact on NOSTATS it says. Where statistics are so lengthy as to impede the readability of the article, the statistics can be split into a separate article and summarized in the main article. So they are explained in the previous article. As for NOTDIRECTORY, that's kind of a grey area really, are you considering the list of matches a directory? The question it asks on that topic Wikipedia encompasses many lists of links to articles within Wikipedia that are used for internal organization or to describe a notable subject. Liverpool football club is certainly a notable topic, so is Liverpool football club in Europe, how about their games, there are many in the list that are highly notable. The main problem with the list is that each row needs a source. So again, how much thought did you put towards wanting to delete the article?? Regards Govvy (talk) 10:08, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Monarch Mountain (ski area) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Written like an advertisement, no references cited, no indication of notability. These are long-standing issues (5+ years) with no attempts made by other editors to fix. Ultimately, this could probably be deleted and merged into Monarch Pass. GSK (talkedits) 04:36, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources.

The book notes: "Monarch Pass, c. 1936. People have been skiing the mountains surrounding the valley of Monarch Mountain since 1914. Monarch's first unofficial winter season was in 1936, when James Kane and the Salida Winter Sports Club brought a Chevy truck engine up Monarch Pass highway. Other skiers instrumental in the initial opening of the area were Thor Groswold, Sven Wiik, and Charlie Vail. By 1939, the club applied to the US Forest Service for a permit to cut trails, construct a lodge, and erect a lift. The first run cut at Monarch was Gunbarrel, an expert trail with a 30 percent slope. During the first official ski season of 1939–1940, season passes cost $1. Rope tow revenues netted over $50, with 25¢ day tickets. Ownership of the resort changed multiple times, with each change resulting in additional lifts, more terrain, and a base lodge. Stability returned to Monarch in the 1990s after a turbulent decade throughout the 1980s when the area filed for bankruptcy. In 2006, the Mirkwood Basin opened to skiers and riders willing to hike."

The review notes: "Monarch is rare in the ski-resort world, running on 100 percent natural snow (about 350 inches annually) leading to the resort’s motto “We don’t make snow. Mother Nature does.” The resort’s base elevation of nearly 11,000 feet helps keep the snow fluffy and frequent. And most of the more difficult trails remain un-groomed, providing a true backcountry feel with the ease of chairlift access. And for anyone looking for more than a backcountry feel, there are 130 acres of hike-to terrain."

    3. Scoville, Peter (January–February 2012). "Monarch Mountain". Skiing. EBSCOhost 70248700.

The review notes: "I first discovered Monarch Mountain in the winter of 1995. I was on my annual pilgrimage from the Front Range to Crested Butte for its ski-for-free weekend when we pulled our old Subaru Outback, bottoming out under five ski buddies and gear, off U.S. Highway 50 into the area's dirt parking lot for a pee break. ... Somewhere between cheap lift tickets, nine inches of fresh pow, nonexistent lift lines, and steep shots like Gunbarrel and High Anxiety that filled back in after every lap, I fell in love with Monarch Mountain. We ended the day in the Sidewinder Saloon, Monarch's only bar, for an après-ski scene that embodied all of the comfort and camaraderie a down-home, slopeside watering hole should. Though I didn't realize it then, that chance stop sold me on the beauty of Monarch and reminded me why I love skiing. Fast-forward 16 years, and nothing much has changed at Monarch. It now sports a terrain park and new steep lines and tree runs that came with the 130-acre expansion into Mirkwood Basin, but those improvements only built upon the fundamentals: deep snow, few crowds, and an unpretentious group of hardcore skiers and beginners alike."

The review provides more information: "Average Snowfall: 350 inches. Skiable Acres: 800. Vertical Feet: 1,162. Advanced/Expert Terrain: 58%. Lift Ticket Price: $57."

The article notes: "For this special occasion, deep-winter getaway, a retro theme seemed apropos, with “most snow” and “funky factor” used as criteria for mountain selection. Monarch Mountain, circa 1939, which has been getting hammered by storms all season, won out. Modest in vertical rise — just 1,162 feet of elevation gain between its 10,790-foot base and the 11,952-foot peak – Monarch packs a lot of punch and fall-line skiing into an area slightly larger than Aspen Mountain. At the start of an early January storm that would drop 35 inches in less than 24 hours, we set out from Aspen for a deceptively long drive given Monarch’s close-as-the-crow-flies location (like Crested Butte) in the central Rockies."

The article notes: "Monarch ski area is busy. Pass sales more than doubled in the past three seasons. Skiers have flocked to the Chaffee County ski area, with visitation reaching more than 210,000 in 2022-23, up from 140,000 when Bob Nicolls led his investment group to buy the 800-acre ski area in 2002. The article notes: "This project has been years in the making. PowderMonarch LLC, which owns Monarch Mountain ski area, filed its application for the expansion on Oct. 6, 2021. Monarch is also one of the oldest ski areas in the state, having first opened to the public in 1939, according to the Forest Service’s environmental assessment of the project."

The article notes: "The ski area had built itself on grit. Locals in 1936 formed a sports club on the mountain, powering a shoddy rope tow with a six-cylinder truck engine. The pass was finished over the next few years, spelling greater access and higher popularity. ... All the while, Monarch has resisted the industry trend of glitz and conglomeration. Possibly on deck for the future: a terrain expansion on the mountain’s backside, along with another lift."

The article notes: "Monarch Mountain has come a long way from a one-run wonder to the 75-year-old beauty it is today. When Monarch opened in 1939, it was constructed by Works Project Administration workers and featured a 500-foot rope tow driven by a gear box from an old oil derrick. Today, Monarch features six chair lifts and 54 runs plus nearly 1,000 acres of back country skiing opportunities."

    9. LeBlanc, Pam (March 2021). "Colorado Ski Gems". Austin Travels Magazine. Archived from the original on 2024-07-01. Retrieved 2024-07-01.

The article notes: "I’ve always bypassed Monarch, assuming it didn’t have enough terrain to keep me interested. I was wrong. The cozy, 800-acre ski area doesn’t have any on-mountain lodging. The closest is the no-frills Monarch Mountain Lodge a few miles away, where you can get a room for about $100 and a free shuttle to the ski resort. Nearby, you can explore restaurants and shops in town, swim laps at the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center downtown, or detour over to Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort after a day of skiing and plop yourself into a pool of steamy water right along a riverbank. Monarch Mountain officially opened as a ski area in 1939, but its off-the-beaten path location means it’s less crowded."

The article notes: "For more than 80 years, this central Colorado ski area along the Continental Divide has drawn powderhounds. Its fairly modest size — 800 acres and a 1,100-foot vertical drop — is counterbalanced by 350 inches of average annual snowfall that can stay untracked for several days past a storm, plus guided snowcat skiing on 1,600 additional acres of advanced terrain. Experts also love the hike-to, backcountry-style runs in Mirkwood Basin. Recent required thinning of pine-beetle-stricken trees has opened up more gladed skiing across the mountain. (Denver-based Meier Skis sells custom Monarch models using some of that harvested wood.) Many guests opt to stay in the artsy, riverside town of Salida, 20 miles east."

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow Monarch Mountain to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

A consensus emerged at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of NCAA Division III independents football records that a list like this fails WP:NLIST and WP:NOTDIRECTORY, because this is a group of loosely-related teams that are not in conferences. A merge to a different article would also be difficult for undue weight issues, as expressed in the previous AfD. A similar AfD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of NCAA Division II independents football records) resulted in a soft deletion. Eagles 24/7 (C) 14:58, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Similar to other articles in the Career achievements of basketball players category, this is a collection of indiscriminate trivia with trivial statistical cross sections, which is a violation of WP:NOTSTATS and does not meet the notability criteria under WP:NLIST. • The worst case situation here is a redirect to List of Irish first-class cricketers, with a partial merge to a note so that the biographical details and references can be preserved. Given the quality of information at this source the chances are that there are contemporary press records offline that could be used to build a proper biography. Liddle appears to be the go to expert on Irish cricketers and clearly wrote for the ACS on the subject - a set of his biographies can be found here for future reference. It might be worth a keep based on Liddle's biography and the fact that he got a Wisden obituary (which is not a gimme, especially for single appearance players), but I'd rather see something a bit more contemporary in news sources. But it really is redirect at the worst - this is never a delete situation. Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:54, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Final Wicket: Test and First Class Cricketers Killed in the Great War (which I have) goes into great detail on him. Wisden has an obituary on him in its 1918 edition, which also goes into a good degree of detail. I'd imagine there's coverage in newspapers from the time too, The Times certainly mentions him following his death. AA (talk) 22:03, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is all fine and I appreciate the additional resources added, but, does that still make him a "notable" player in the eyes of WP:NCRICKET? I'm hardly knowledgeable of cricket, does
"he represented Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and also Middlesex in two first-class matches in 1912."
counts as "Have played at the international level for a Test-playing nation"? Hornpipe2 (talk) 00:09, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
NCRICKET goes on to say "Additionally, cricketers who have played at the highest domestic level, or in the lower levels of international cricket, may have sufficient coverage about them to justify an article, but it should not be assumed to exist without further proof." Playing for Middlesex in first-class cricket counts as "the highest domestic level", so it depends on whether he has "sufficient coverage". Going by what AA has written, he probably does. JH (talk page) 08:55, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm inclined toward keep here, although the very worst case situation would be a redirect to List of Middlesex County Cricket Club players with a note added to include the reference detail. There's a Wisden obituary with some detail and I would be surprised if there weren't other obituaries - Eton, The Times etc.... Given his family and status this seems very, very likely - I'd suggest that with any war death that a significant BEFORE should really take place as there's often a scad load of detail out there and as a person he would appear to me to be clearly notable in terms of the sorts of things we'd look for. The book that is referred to above is usually a detailed source as well, and Sandford also appears to mention him in his The Final Over: The Cricketers of Summer 1914 - there's story about him uncovering a diamond worth £1 million in Kashmir. No idea where that came from, but there's clearly coverage out there about the chap and he seems notable to me. Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:07, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Noah Holcomb (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

I propose the deletion of the Wikipedia article on Noah Holcomb for the following reasons:

Lack of Notability:

According to Wikipedia's General Notability Guidelines, a topic is presumed notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Upon thorough research, Noah Holcomb does not meet this criterion. The available sources primarily consist of minor mentions and local coverage, which do not constitute significant coverage. Insufficient Reliable Sources:

The sources cited in the article do not meet the standard of reliable, secondary sources. Most of the references are primary sources or lack the editorial oversight needed to be considered reliable. There is a scarcity of independent coverage from reputable media outlets, academic publications, or other authoritative sources. Failure to Meet Sports Notability Criteria:

For athletes, Wikipedia's Sports Notability Guidelines specify that individuals should have achieved significant success in major international competitions at the highest level. Noah Holcomb has not been documented to have such achievements. His sports career, as detailed in the article, does not include any significant milestones that would warrant notability under these guidelines. Verifiability and Independence Issues:

Wikipedia's Verifiability Policy requires that all content must be verifiable and based on reliable sources. Much of the information in the article lacks independent verification and appears to be derived from sources closely associated with Holcomb, thereby compromising the objectivity required for a Wikipedia article. Consensus from the Community:

Previous discussions and evaluations by the Wikipedia community have highlighted similar concerns regarding the subject's notability. There has been a consistent lack of support for maintaining the article due to the reasons mentioned above. Given these points, I believe the article on Noah Holcomb does not meet Wikipedia's standards for inclusion. I recommend deletion to maintain the quality and reliability of the encyclopedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiUserExplorer23 (talkcontribs) 23:09, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another long-time stub of a Slovak footballer named Matúš, he last played for Spartak Trnava in 2021 before disappearing from the football world. My Google showed nothing better than brief mentions and routine coverage, including this one. I've checked corresponding articles in other Wikipedia languages but none of them provide significant coverage; the Slovak one has been tagged for notability issues since 2021 so it obviously will not help copy over English article. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. • There are other articles of size and shape on Wikipedia That's not a compelling argument; see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. On the other hand the article about Vladyslav Kalyn will grow and get better over time. The article could made a draft for now then and be re-published when there is WP:SIGCOV. Robby.is.on (talk) 10:27, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is no guarantee that the article will improve or that Kalyn will become notable over time, this would appear to be a WP:CRYSTAL argument. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 15:55, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion Kalyn is already notable. He plays for club belonging to the highest tier in Ukrainian football, and he played/scored for Ukraine national U17 football team in the 2023 UEFA European U17 Championship qualification. His contract belongs to the runner-up of the Ukrainian Premier League 2023/24 (FC Dynamo Kyiv). About improvement of the article: I try to do my best since I've created the article. Incorrect. WP:SPORTBASIC clearly excludes database sources (e.g. UEFA, Soccerway) when it comes to notability; Sports biographies must include at least one reference to a source providing significant coverage of the subject, excluding database sources.. I suggest you read that guideline in full. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 22:19, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't meet WP:GNG or WP:SPORTCRIT. Only secondary sources in the article and found during WP:BEFORE check are match reports with surface level coverage of the subject. AlexandraAVX (talk) 16:25, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment (contributor). I tried improving this to bring it back to mainspace, based on elements of BASIC per SPORTBASIC (the guidelines that covers the notability of people and athletics), as a combination of secondary sources, rather than the need for exclusive SIGCOV (the guidelines that covers the notability of general topics). So far there is Sky Sports and BBC for this, which I believe is beyond trivial, and borderline BASIC per Govvy comment. It's otherwise unfortunately that the BBC's Women's Football Show episodes are no longer available, as I remember distinct post-game coverage of Draper after her initial goal; that of her international career, prospects and style of play (beyond ROUTINE), that would certainly cross the threshold for basic notability (people and sports-related). I'll try find a copy of this somewhere to see if it could be used as a cite av media ref, even if not possible as an online source. I think it's also fair to assume basic based on "they have achieved success in a major international competition at the highest level", that of being top scorer in the U17 Euro qualifying, as subjectively the U17 Euros are the highest level of competition at that age range, though I can understand how this is intended for senior competitions only, as well as only a guide to likelihood of notability, as opposed to notability itself. Either way, it wouldn't be too much of a loss if the page get's deleted, as I suspect there will be SIGCOV soon enough for it to return. It would be unfortunate for an active WSL player to have their page deleted, but based on policy/coverage it'd be understandable. I can only assume it's age-related as to why there isn't further coverage, given she would be one of the very few active WSL players to have scored a league goal and not have an article. CNC (talk) 16:34, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Keep Have added a third source for notability [13], so per above comment, that should cover SPORTBASIC. The online source is unavailable, but can be verified here, or otherwise by requesting archival footage from the BBC for non-commercial purposes if preferred (but otherwise nothing wrong with citing media as RS per WP:PUBLISHED). I realise as well that ROUTINE only covers local sources for sport, so with BBC and Sky Sports, game coverage counts for multiple sig cov. At least, I think it's hard to argue that coverage of scoring the winning goal in an important game isn't significant. We can get round to the YT argument if needed, but as it's a verified account from a reliable source (Sky Sports Football) it is "inheriting their level of reliability" per WP:RSPYOUTUBE so shouldn't be needed. CNC (talk) 17:42, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Routine is definitely not restricted to local sources; per policy: For example, routine news coverage of announcements, events, sports, or celebrities, while sometimes useful, is not by itself a sufficient basis for inclusion of the subject of that coverage. NSPORT's requirement that local sources cannot be routine game coverage does not mean only local sources can be routine game coverage. The video is primary and does not contain encyclopedic coverage: it is routine match commentating and amounts to no more than a sentence or two at most: absolutely not SIGCOV. If this was sufficient for NSPORT purposes we would have articles on every DI and probably DII college football player. JoelleJay (talk) 23:34, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Keep for the reasons stated above, but also worth adding here that Draper recently signed a pro contract with Leicester. Until now, her WSL appearances had been as an academy player mostly coming off the bench, so reasonable chance of her making match day squads more often. Delete this article and we could end up having to restore it long before Christmas. Leonstojka (talk) 17:12, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. There is no instance of WP:SIGCOV in an independent, reliable source as required under WP:NSPORT, and thus the subject also fails WP:GNG which requires multiple instances. Sourcing is limited to WP:ROUTINE match coverage, stats pages, and coverage in affiliated sources. Per a "keep" voter's assertion that she may become more notable in the future given her career prospects, I would be open to a "draftify" outcome if others believe that would be productive; ping me if so and I'll reconsider my current !vote. Dclemens1971 (talk) 03:50, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Draftify as this appears to be the case that notability is not quite there, but due to the age of the subject and current state of the article, 'sufficient' notability could exist within the next year. C679 10:55, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete I made some corrections to the article. I changed the gold medal in the table from World Championship to World Military Games, the Asian Games weren't held in 2013, and she did appear at the 2015 world championships (but lost in the round of 16). Her gold medal in 2013 was in a youth division, which is not considered to show WP notability. The World Military Games have never been thought to show WP notability in the martial arts--a number of American martial artists who won medals there have had their articles deleted. Some of the women's TKD divisions didn't even have enough competitors to award the 4 medals (gold, silver, 2 bronze) allocated. The other events mentioned are minor ones. Other than results reporting, I don't see sufficient significant independent coverage to meet WP:GNG and nothing to show WP:NSPORT or WP:MANOTE is met. This might fail WP:NMOTORSPORT — Preceding unsigned comment added by MysticCipher87(alt-account) (talkcontribs) 19:44, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete - Am I reading it correctly that he only competed in one professional race? It appears he did not qualify (DNQ) and withdrew (WD) a few times, but I only see one actual race listed in all those tables. Being a member of the France family does not make him notable, so he needs to have made a name for himself in racing, and I don't see it. - Donald Albury 21:46, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thought I had found something here, but it just links to a bunch of news items, each of which just mentions J.C. as part of a driving team. I have found a number of pieces about his drunk-driving arrest, but that doesn't help. Also found a column he wrote himself about what he is doing now, and an interview which might be usable for details, but not for establishing notability. Donald Albury 22:11, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep France competed in multiple full seasons of professional Grand Am racing. I will make that clear in the article. -Drdisque (talk) 21:06, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
...but is there anything there to assert notability? The state of the article does not help. Often, I say rip it up and start afresh. SpacedFarmer (talk) 10:18, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Yes, he unequivocally passes WP:NMOTORSPORT. -Drdisque (talk) 15:23, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Grand-Am Daytona Prototypes - coming from a rare fan of the class - would be, in my opinion, a "primarily-professional series of significant national importance", not of "international importance" like I think you're arguing. Subject doesn't appear to have won any DP races, which is what would get a driver who competed at a level no higher than DP (which frankly, was never that high) to pass NMOTORSPORT. But that doesn't mean we should go around finding every DP driver article and sending it to AfD, as NMOTORSPORT really only tells us whether or not someone is likely to pass WP:GNG or not. ― "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (talk)  16:34, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - GNG is not met. Most of what I found on google about this subject is inadmissible per WP:BLPCRIME as subject was not found guilty of what the headlines accuse him of, and would fail WP:ROUTINE regardless. Most of what remains are the usual database sources such as racing-reference, DriverDB, etc. ― "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (talk)  16:38, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Helsingin Sanomat, 9 May 1975 - mentioned a few times in standard post-event coverage together with other participants.
  • Etelä-Suomen Sanomat, 31 May 1976 - same, a few passing mentions
  • Etelä-Suomen Sanomat, 22 January 1978 - elected as the chair of the Salpausselkä Motor Club, given some awards. Very short piece.
  • Etelä-Suomen Sanomat, 30 August 1976 - event coverage, wins bronze in Turku.
  • Etelä-Suomen Sanomat, 19 September 1974 - briefly mentioned as the "best driver in the series".
I didn't survey all the hits, but the best appears to be a profile/interview in Etelä-Suomen Sanomat on 1 September 1977 (link, requires a researcher account), a bit more than a quarter of a (broadsheet) page in size. Interestingly, it also features a (very cropped) image of an English language news story titled "Markku provides bright spot" by Ken Gaunt, apparently from either Speedway Mail or Leicester Mercury, both of which we are told have featured him.
Based on the coverage I have access to, I'm personally rather ambivalent. That said, if someone can actually find the English language coverage mentioned in the Finnish papers and verify they are of reasonable depth, I suspect this would lean towards keep for me. -Ljleppan (talk) 09:59, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Draftify - basically per JoelleJay. We've rejected the idea of automatic notability in WP:NSPORTS2022, and the assertion that this person is notable simply for having competed in the Speedway World Cup is basically that. Similarly a silver medal in a national-level tournament, in a minor sport and relatively small competitive environment, should also not be an automatic pass for notability. These criteria were only ever intended as an indication that WP:GNG was likely passed - if doubt is cast on GNG being passed we still need to find sources, and none have been found so far. Delete can also work but it appears that some people are willing to put in the work to get this over the line though to be honest I don't see that happening as likely.

No indication of notability at all. I'm surprised this has been up this long. A Google search returns nothing (and for me there are more results about a Toronto lawyer than anything else). Redirected by Kingsif but I think this article is well written and should be kept. But merge is also possible. --MikutoH talk! 00:36, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In any case, AfD for this article here is wrong since we can't delete this article here, given that it serves as the history for the other article per our WP:COPYRIGHT rules for page history.
So I think reading that linked discussion, keeping this stand-alone list article separate and moving the list content back out of that other article and just linking it back to this list article would be more appropriate per WP:PRECISE. Raladic (talk) 00:49, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:PRECISE is a policy on article titling, not about content. Traumnovelle (talk) 05:29, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming you read to the end of that discussion, there was agreement for convert the article [List of intersex Olympians] to be about sex verification and include a list of cases. Which is what happened - you’ll see the rationale at the talkpage is largely about how the content is framed, and at least one user has already appreciated the change. Besides that, there have been, last year and this year, users concerned that a contextless list is vulnerable to readers misunderstanding and/or malicious editors vandalising. Of course, you’re allowed the opinion that the list is better standalone…
I’m not sure why the nominator here jumped to an AfD instead of asking about the decision to redirect — and then, if they disagreed, starting or joining talkpage discussion. But I would encourage you (and the nom, and everyone else) to join talkpage discussion. As the main maintainer of the article(s), I’m trying my best to get users involved in discussion aiming at improvements, and then implementing improvements, because it’s a subject that can’t really be left unmaintained. The more participation and different views (which can come together to find a middle ground that may be ideal), the better. Kingsif (talk) 11:55, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I interpreted This was part of my thinking to convert the article to be about sex verification and include a list of cases meaning the list moved over there would be a list of specific cases, not the entirely of the list of any intersex athlete. Raladic (talk) 22:09, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see! Still, "convert[ing] the article" is pretty unambiguously indicating that List of intersex Olympians as it was, would cease to exist, which was agreed. If you have more thoughts on how the subject should be presented, please let me know Kingsif (talk) 09:59, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As you correctly pointed out, I wasn't part of the original discussion, so I only have my retroactive eye to look at it.
I still believe that the new article that does have the good expanded scope of discussing sex verification at the Olympics involving intersex athletes as an article and is very worthwhile, but I could see it more as a WP:SPLIT of the original list article and both could co-exist with the new Sex verification and intersex athletes at the Olympic Games talking more about the context you already expanded and talking about notably cases of sex verification involving intersex athletes (such as there being contention or so), while the List of intersex Olympians could continue to exist as a historic record of all notable intersex athletes at the Olympics, which is why I invoked WP:PRECISE earlier, as I'd believe if someone were to search for such a list, they would more likely expect it to be at such a title and may be confused why it is intermingled with sex verification that has more scope beyond that.
But that being said, if the community arrives at a consensus that the merge is preferred (now that this has gotten more attention via the AfD, since you called out that it hadn't gotten much participation earlier, which is arguably how I came across it through one of the Wikiproject notification of the AfD), then I won't stand in the way of it. In any case, thank you for your helpful work on both articles :) Raladic (talk) 15:38, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Immers fails GNG with a lack of SIGCOV. The sources are more focused on Steven van de Velde than Immers. Dougal18 (talk) 12:21, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect even after the improvements my Commonsense this still lacks Notability as it only came from one source, which I still don't know if it is WP:RS Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 06:24, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The premise of the AfD is that Immers' connection to someone notable (van de Velde) does not make Immers notable - arguing that someone else is notable is not a !keep argument, let alone a strong one. Kingsif (talk) 22:11, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Immers has now consistent top ten placements in the European Championships, World Championships and the Olympics, so he clearly belongs to a very narrow elite in his sport. His European championship title as a junior may not be enough in itself (I and BabbaQ have expanded the article considerably since most people here argued for redirect) but even that is important in the big picture, how consistent this player has been throughout his career. The argument to keep has nothing to do with the global infamy resulting from his association to van de Velde. As a beach volley player he is equally notable in his own right as van de Velde is in that regard. Commonssense (talk) 08:54, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was responding to BabbaQ's argument that since Van de Velde has an article, Immers should. Your response, about how great you think he is and how much work you put into adding two lines to the article, is irrelevant to that. Kingsif (talk) 22:16, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strongly oppose redirect: Matthew Immers has played on a high level with a number different people (such as Yorick de Groot, together with whom he won silver at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics). It is common in beach volleyball to play with multiple partners during ones career. To redirect him to one specific partner is not very helpful. In particular when that specific partners fame is based on the combination of being an Olympian and a convicted child rapists. There is no sports reason to redirect Immers to van de Velde rather than the other way around. The only reason would be that van de Velde is more famous due to being a convicted child rapists. Since Immers is not a convicted child rapists having a redirect that way seems like an (unintentional) character assassination. As per Geschichte and others I would prefer keep due to his results as a player. Gunnar Larsson (talk) 19:28, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The proposed redirect target is surely Netherlands_at_the_2024_Summer_Olympics#Volleyball. Kingsif (talk) 22:15, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Whilst that for sure is better than Steven van de Velde that is not an obvious target. It is only the competition that is most recent right now. Beach volleyball at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics would likely make more sense, since that is the global competition in which he won a medal. In general redirects are quite overused on Wikipedia in ways that are not very helpful. If not considered noteworthy a simple deletion would probably be better since then search tools can show any of the articles in which he is mentioned. Gunnar Larsson (talk) 06:29, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I suggested Van de Velde as the target since most of the coverage I could find was talking about them together and the article goes into how both of them scored. I'm open to a better target and I think Kingsif's suggestion is the best idea. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:05, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Would you still consider that if the year was not 2024 and the Olympics hadn't just finished? I fail to see that the Olympics is an obvious redirect for someone that have achieved similar results in the World Championships etc. If you do not consider it noteworthy then why not just delete it? Search engines will still find the Olympics and other competitions he competed in (imho we are overusing redirects a lot, their importance is in guiding the user to pages where the article subject is handled in a more holistic way, the goal should not be to make editors happy about that one red link has been removed).
With regards to media exposure etc. I would suggest searching something like [30], i.e. in Dutch and without van de Velde. Most people are mainly written about in their local language rather in English. Can even use something like [31] (with the time bit set to "Archives" to get rid of overexposure of the most recent events). Gunnar Larsson (talk) 09:12, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand Dutch so it'd help if you clarify if these are SIGCOV about Immers or simply passing mentions. If there is enough SIGCOV for GNG, I'm okay with changing my !vote to keep. My opinion on redirecting to the Olympics was because I was under the impression that was the highest level of competition he had competed in (previous comments mention the Youth Olympics and I did not notice the World Championships angle). If he truly isn't notable and he's known for both, I support deleting because the target would actually be ambiguous. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 09:42, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep Have added a third source for notability [36], so per above comment, that should cover SPORTBASIC.

Equestrian who does not satisfy sports notability. There are two references. The first one is a database entry, and database entries do not establish sports notability. The second is an obituary, which may count toward general notability but is the only significant source. He competed in the Olympics, but does not have Olympic notability because he did not receive a medal.
