Revision as of 03:58, 7 May 2012

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 03:36, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full-protection: Three day protection has ended, and edit disputes still in process of being resolved. Some disputes resolved (see Talk:Seamus (dog)#Edit protection), but some are still being worked on. Request for several more days of protection. HHIAdm (talk) 02:34, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Done - jc37 02:02, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: As always happens when a superhero movie is released, there is a very high level of IP vandalism that is exhausting no fewer than three WikiProject Comics editors. Tenebrae (talk) 00:10, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Done - jc37 02:02, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary move protection: Page title dispute/move warring – there is a dispute in moving, and it is expected to become a move warring. therfore, could you preven this page from moving temporary, please?. Coekon (talk) 22:24, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – A content dispute about the validity of vandalising-tags. Night of the Big Wind talk 21:27, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Night of the Big Wind already took this to AN/I, where I noted the full story. In short, this editor warned a new editor for vandalism who did not commit vandalism, and is for some reason trying to keep the warning there, despite the fact they are clearly inappropriate. CMD (talk) 01:59, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Declined - And I strongly advise both editors to stop with the constant reverting. Since it's now at AN/I - discuss it there. - jc37 02:27, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Obviously Hollande has been elected, but won't be inaugurated until May 17. A lot of IPs jump the gun right now, so please semi-protect until May 17. --bender235 (talk) 18:43, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: IPs keep adding unsourced information...aka who the new judges are even though they have not been officially confirmed. Shadow (talk) 16:24, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected — Although not vandalism per se, there're enough repeated attempts across multiple ip users (but no established editors) to add what's apparently speculation as fact. --slakrtalk / 03:35, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP and new registered users trying always to host a city called Souf instead of Sakib, There appears to be a growing rift between editors of the two host cities and the vandalism has been increasing--MutantMark (talk) 11:48, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected — content dispute; seek dispute resolution. --slakrtalk / 03:19, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: The usual K-pop good-faith edits. Longterm edit-warring for positions. Please note: This is not because of any acute rise in edit-warring over the past few days. This involves slow-motion edit-warring across all K-pop articles involving adding unsourced positions and other trivia such as "age" and even "Blood type" as I explained on RFPP talk. If you do not agree to protect I will understand and not bring any further K-pop articles for protection for this type of slow but persistent edit-warring. My other recent K-pop RFPP nom based on exactly the same reason was nixed, so I am starting to get the picture. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 17:31, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is endemic to the K-Pop articles like you say here and on the talkpage then it might be worth taking to WP:AN given how complex and slow-moving it is as a whole and probably out of the scope of RFPP. tutterMouse (talk) 17:56, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the advice. It is not a bad idea. But given the admin reply on talk I thought I could try RFPP first. That's why I started the discussion at RFPP talk in the first place. I knew this was going to be a tough cookie protection-wise. If this doesn't succeed I will consider AN. Thanks again. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 22:00, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome but I feel its wide-ranging enough to consider taking someplace where it can be looked over and discussed, especially if there's slow-mo edit wars regarding the trivia. Of course posting here for a few articles seems reasonable as it is the right place and is a good testbed. Only issue is that putting the issue here for an individual article is like trying to slam a sneaky vandal at AIV, the history isn't there or is too complex to be dealt with with one yes/no answer unilaterally by one admin. tutterMouse (talk) 22:42, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your well-made points. Let's see what transpires here and the next step will be AN. Thank you. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 22:58, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    Declined --slakrtalk / 02:54, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks. Meanwhile the edit-warring at My Name (band) continues unabated. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 03:57, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Temporary semi-protection: Today's featured article. Hghyux (talk to me)(talk to others) 19:10, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. TFA pages are frequently vandalized but only protected in response to extreme vandalism, by common practice. Rjd0060 (talk) 19:22, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite create protection: An IP-hopping anonymous user has recreated this piece of nonsense three times in the past few days. I'd like to do something about the user as well, but like I said, he hops. J. Spencer (talk) 14:23, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
