Revision as of 22:09, 3 November 2010

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Current requests for protection

    Temporary semi-protection vandalism, needs protection for a while. . Monterey Bay (talk) 21:54, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary, one week semi-protection Inappropriate content has been repeatedly added to the article by IP editors over the past four days. Cunard (talk) 21:46, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect. High level of IP vandalism; apparently from the same user who uses different IPs. The anonymous user has an issue with the title or maybe with the word "White" in the title, and repeteadly placed templates without seeking concensus in the talk page. The introduction of the article was modified, explaining the use of the term, due to his constant criticism. But today he stopped argumenting in the talk page (now using the same IP), and arbitrarily edited different sections. I and other editors of the article reverted his changes, but this seems to be leading to edit warring. I request Temporary Semi-Protection until the vandalism stops.--Pablozeta (talk) 21:33, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, excessive vandalism from multiple IPs. Minimac (talk) 21:24, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection vandalism, As usual, multiple vandal-edits today by IP-editors. Shearonink (talk) 21:04, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 21:07, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection A couple of different IPs are consistently adding unsourced and unnecessary information about the cover picture featuring a baby from a YouTube channel. ECWAGuru (talk) 20:39, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite full protection dispute, This is going to be an issue until the end of time - every time this article is unprotected, IP editors get upset that Pele didn't include their favorite player (or themselves) in the list of top 100 footballers of all time. Considering there's very little reason to update, I can't imagine protecting this article indefinitely is going to cause problems. Mosmof (talk) 19:41, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Hmm, I meant to ask for a semi-protection. Sorry! Mosmof (talk) 20:16, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 365 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Courcelles 20:50, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection vandalism vandalism often from IP's. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 19:35, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Courcelles 20:41, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection The vandalism appears to be only one person (because it is the same thing over and over again), but he keeps doing it after blocks on his IP address are lifted, and his IP address changes periodically. Spidey104contribs 19:17, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Courcelles 20:42, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection, persistant attempts—mostly from IPs—to change "Sea of Japan (East Sea)" to "East Sea (Sea of Japan)", which is contrary to WP:NC-SoJ. PC78 (talk) 19:13, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection, Editor at annonymous IP address that appears to be unfamiliar with Wiki proceedure continually attempting to remove the fact that allegations of rape are just that, allegations, without providing a RS as requested. It's impossible to have a debate with an IP address. Rapier (talk) 19:04, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection, Anonymous Ip address has been adding continuously Original research and In-universe misc. Information. It should be semi-protected so that it can be trimmed without possible reverts from Anonymous Ip. Max Viwe | Wanna chat with me? 17:37, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Vandalism on the rise from IP adresses. GunMetal Angel 15:57, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Courcelles 20:48, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, Had two previous temporary protections, but vandalism and inaccurate additions came right back after protection expired. Derild4921 17:04, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 6 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Courcelles 19:07, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Addition to Pending Changes or Semi-protection Vandalism - After a period on semi protection, ending about 2 months ago, users are having to start reverting vandalism once again from this article, from IP editors. Request this article have PC applied or another Semi in order to prevent further occurrences. BarkingFish 16:06, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • Declined As far as I can see from the logs, it's never been on semi-protection. It was fully protected for 1 day then unprotected when the disruptive editor in question was blocked. I also see that the offending edits come from just one IP whose talk page is still redlinked. Suggest discussion / warning and monitoring rather than protection at this stage. If that tactic fails, I will make the offending editor(s) watch the ghastly programme on an endless loop until all they can sing is the annoying panpipe-based theme music, all they can picture are over-acting children and all they can say is "Waybuloo" or "Time for yogo". </Dad rant> BencherliteTalk 16:21, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect. High level of non-neutral IP editing; more are likely to come as his election as Governor of Florida has just been conceded. Cúchullain t/c 14:41, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  15:02, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, the topic appears to be a vandal magnet, almost all edits in the last month have been vandalism and work to revert them. (talk) 13:25, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  13:43, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protect. Continued vandalism. Hekerui (talk) 13:22, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  13:36, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Full Unprotection. Content dispute should have been dealt with by sanctioning the edit warring editors, not shutting down the page. Consensus by all bar 1 (the original RPP nominator) now exists at Talk:Australian Football League. The admin who protected it has also been involved in the discussions and is open to a second opinion (see User_talk:Ged_UK#AFL_protection).The-Pope (talk) 11:15, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Is anyone able to help? The-Pope (talk) 15:05, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unprotected with usual caveats. BencherliteTalk 16:27, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

    Indefinite create-protection :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 07:58, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Creation protected Even though it was last deleted in February, the ridiculously long protection and deletion history demonstrates that this is still a likely target for recreation. GedUK  08:20, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi protection vandalism, An IP editor has continually added POV information to the article - either this or a long term block of their IP addresses. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 07:20, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. It's a different IP, so blocking it won't help. GedUK  08:16, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection - Repeated insertion of unsourced text, and occasional vandalism, by the same batch of IPs all from Italy. Has been semi-protected before; article remains otherwise quiet, but since July the IPs from Italy inevitably resume when the protection fades. Xenophrenic (talk) 03:40, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. I think pending changes is the best way forward, editing levels are reasonably low. Hopefully when they realise that their edits aren't showing, they'll stop. GedUK  08:12, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect for a few weeks or maybe a month+. Several IPs from Spain are persistently spamming the article by adding a link to a fansite (not the actor's official site), in Spanish, to the infobox in the article. The page had been semi-protected recently for the same reason but the spammers are back. Nsk92 (talk) 03:38, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. You might want to try to get that onto the Wikipedia:Spam blacklist, though this protection is as much for the additional vandalism. GedUK  08:09, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection, Excess IP edits. Inflation of sales and unsourced information addition. Novice7 (Talk) 02:49, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 6 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  08:05, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection, Current election going on, recent vandalism. Might want to leave unprotected, but up to admin. Allmightyduck  What did I do wrong? 02:38, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note: IP edits are a mix and the unproductive ones are quickly reverted. This may be a case worth leaving as "anyone can edit", given the potential to attract new editors. Will monitor. (This is not a firm call - others may overrule.) -- Tom N (tcncv) talk/contrib 03:13, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Declined There's enough people watching that I think to keep it under control. Relist if it picks up. GedUK  08:02, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protection - nonstop unsourced material being added to the page. Not a single IP edit I can see that was positive and not adding the same unsourced stuff over and over. Paralympiakos (talk) 01:06, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  08:00, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection, NPOV violations by IP. This article was the target of an edit war by a user blocked for sockpuppetry regarding this same subject (turning a description of a Wall Street Journal article on the subject from an accusation of being a certification mill to evidence for the various certifications the company offers). Semi-protection would force users to log in, making enforcement of the block easier (and reducing the headache associated with policing the article for ARTSPAM). RJC TalkContribs 00:17, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  08:13, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protection, A number IPs and few registered users are repeatingly adding unsourced full names concerning the show's main characters. Despite hidden text that clearly states they must be sourced. This has been a problem since the show's premiere in April. QuasyBoy 22:11, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  07:54, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection vandalism, IP attacks. BLP issues. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 04:49, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Courcelles 04:52, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, BLP related vandalism from multiple IP sources. -- Cirt (talk) 04:17, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 12 hours, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Hopefully this will calm down once we know who won in Nevada... though if she wins, it might actually get worse. Courcelles 04:18, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Extend previous semi-protection As soon as it was lifted, the article was vandalized. The vandalism isn't going to stop anytime soon. Just look through the page history. Zagalejo^^^ 03:55, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
