This article documents the chronology and epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and is responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, in April 2022. The first human cases of COVID-19 were identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.

  • Takahiro Norimoto, a Japanese Professional Baseball pitcher of Tohoku Eagles of Sendai tested positive for COVID-19. As a consequence, the Eagles postponed two games until 3 April.[citation needed]

2 April

  • The Canadian Province Of Ontario reported 3,233 new cases.[10][11][12]
  • Germany reported 196,456 new daily cases, bringing the total to 21,554,495.[citation needed]
  • Malaysia reported 14,692 new cases, bringing the total to 4,234,087. There were 20,383 recoveries, bringing the total to 3,997,786. There were 56 deaths, raising the death toll to 35,069.[13]
  • Nauru reported its first two cases of COVID-19.[14]
  • New Zealand reported 11,634 new cases, bringing the total to 684,374. There were 14,215 recoveries, bringing the total to 587,127. There were 16 deaths, raising the death toll to 330. There were 96,917 active cases (164 at the border and 96,753 in the community).[15]
