Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Mulamoottil Adima (talk | contribs) at 15:36, 24 November 2014 (Requesting semi-protection of Mohanlal. (TW)). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Indefinite semi-protection: This is a biography of a most important person, say Mohanlal, famous Indian actor. This page is vulnerable to ameteur editors and anonymous disruptive IPs. Mulamoottil Adima (talk) 15:36, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Frequent adding of unsourced content by IP users and Frequent removal of content without explaining why. Disruptive editing. Chamith (talk) 15:15, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Addition of unsourced and poorly sourced programming, as evidenced in these edits - 1 2 3 4 5 6 - continued after the previous protection expired. ElectricBurst(Is there anything you need of me?) 14:54, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism by users replacing information about the Marvel Comics characters with information from the Disney movie that was loosely based on those characters.

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Vandalism by IP users. Good afternoon (talk) 13:29, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: can someone here added a semi-protect to my talkpage. I don't like to receive any messages from IP users which just put an harassing message like this one, especially when I active reverting their vandalism. ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 13:15, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite pending changes: BLP policy violations – Mostly as Hermann has been a subject of an Internet meme depicting him as a prankster, and previous attempts at curbing antic-related vandalism have been done to little effect. Blake Gripling (talk) 13:11, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Semi so vandals cant edit at all, now someone is creating new accounts. QED237 (talk) 12:45, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Hello, could protect this article?. For several days being added speculative information without references. The only source using multiple ips and users is ; "masquetelenovelas" a blog for fans of telenovelas. McVeigh / talk 12:42, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of promotional content from COI accounts and SPAs apparently affiliated or working on behalf of the subject. Blake Gripling (talk) 10:34, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. C759 (talk) 09:02, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Full protection: Content dispute/edit warring.

This article has been the subject of a multi-month edit war in which some editors are making dozens of edits per day (mainly partial or complete reversions of existing material), bickering about issues as trivial as whether the material formed by e-cigarettes is a "vapor" or an aerosol, and dragging one another into ANI in a retaliatory fashion. The article is edited scores of times a day with no notable improvement in the last 2 months, and a battleground mentality has clearly become very entrenched. Please do them all a favor by giving them all an enforced 1 or 2 week break from edit warring. Unlikely, but perhaps they will lose some of their emotional intensity while spending some time with their families instead of bickering with each other. Formerly 98 (talk) 08:56, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite move protection: Always substituted. George Ho (talk) 08:27, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reblock: Inappropriate use of user talk page while blocked – Spamming even after being blocked want the user to be reblocked with Talk page access removed. Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 07:35, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Vandalism by multiple accounts. WP:SOCK investigation has been reported here. ~Oshwah~ (talk) (contribs) 06:49, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Europefan. Dennis Bratland (talk) 03:53, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent deletion of cited negative content by IP address associated with Parent company. HyrumBeck (talk) 02:58, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Permanent pending changes protect - bizarrely high levels of IP vandalism among good edits from new and established accounts alike. Pending changes would allow good edits to continue. Stlwart111 02:08, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. QED237 (talk) 23:52, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism from IPs. Sam Walton (talk) 17:08, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Widr (talk) 16:38, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Persistent Vandalism for weeks since a very long time. Uncletomwood (talk) 16:23, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IPs are messing with stuff here that they shouldn't be. That's why it was semi'd before, and it should be again. RGloucester 15:43, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism - Two IPs and one user is consistently blanking the article. QubeCube (talk) 15:19, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Users adding unencyclopedic and possibly copy-pasted summaries. . Dcbanners (talk) 12:55, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Full protection: Content dispute/edit warring. Dcbanners (talk) 12:44, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is a continuation of a recent incident involving the same editors. Neither of you made it to the talkpage to discuss this so maybe talk it through and reach a consensus first before going to full protection? tutterMouse (talk) 15:23, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: A banned, IP-hopping editor is editing the article to lend subtle support to his fringe theories; see Talk:Orion (constellation)#Ancient Egypt for background. A. Parrot (talk) 04:23, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Favonian (talk) 14:44, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent level of vandalism by both confirmed editors and IP addresses. livelikemusic my talk page! 02:26, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP vandalism. Hoops gza (talk) 23:45, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Since 11/8/14 Multiple IP's have come to revert content. They have made little effort to achieve a consensus on the talk page. Each IP has few edits. Most only 1. They have started labeling their revisions, Reverted vandalism. This does seem to be turning into a pattern. Temporary page protection may be beneficial. -Serialjoepsycho- (talk) 18:58, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – See my last request here. Mr. Stradivarius told me to make another request if another sock shows up. Apparently this time, Caradoc29105 had someone question his edits at Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Humanities#what_is_libyan_.22Nakabwe_Shwahabilia.22_is_it_real.3F. This goes to show how dangerous it is to have vandals like that on sight. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 17:43, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Another sock shows up. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 05:47, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection for a few days, to fend off the trolls. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots17:25, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Seems to have been a transient problem. DMacks (talk) 06:30, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Back on the regular checkup, but unfortunately not much has improved. After this page was unprotected less than a month ago, there has been very little action on this page other than vandalism and reverting vandalism. As long as I have been on Wikipedia, I can remember at most 3 or 4 positive edits from IPs to the article. Has been protected in some form or another 7 times in the past, so perhaps the time has come to make it indefinite. JZCL 17:18, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Days ago, some users thought that I was vandalizing the page with edit summaries, removing boilerplate sources and re-added those sources, but I wasn't! I was just trying to make the page more perfect. But this time, they're really telling me to stop messing with that page. You've got to put a stop to this right now!! AdamDeanHall (talk) 16:41, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Even though the IPs are static, they look too much like the same person to me. Stuff like this indicates that if there is a sockpuppeteer here, they're not editing in good faith. Ian.thomson (talk) 19:58, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I ask that this request be denied; the OP and the IP are edit-warring over very minor things like periods, cite date styles and blank space in the editing window of the article and this should be dealt with via warnings to both the parties to stop it, not semi-protection (the edit cite was a duplicate link the OP added for each article in the same blog over and over again, one which I removed last week as overlinking). The OP has a history of WP:OWN with the listed page and needs to realize that others are allowed to edit the article too, and the IP complaints about terse and over-specific edit summaries targeted their way are also proper. Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
