Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) or Technical University of Malaysia Malacca is a public university located in Durian Tunggal, Alor Gajah, Malacca, Malaysia. It is the pioneer in the use of the "Practice and Application Oriented" teaching and learning method for tertiary level technical education in Malaysia.
History and Development of Campuses
Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) was established on 1 December 2000. UTeM is the 14th public university in Malaysia. It is a pioneer in the “Practice and Application Oriented” teaching and learning method for technical education in Malaysia.
As a Focus University, UTeM boasts strengths in technical fields – namely Engineering, ICT, and Technology Management. UTeM has cemented a reputation of being a source of high-quality engineering and technology management graduates with the capability of meeting the requirements of high-tech industries. UTeM also has research competencies in areas that it has identified as being key to enhancing the University’s unique proposition and also contributes to the nation such as Green Technology, Systems Engineering, Human-Technology Interaction, Emerging Technology and Technology Management.
The university offers academic programmes at diploma, bachelor, master and PhD levels and has seven faculties and two centres. The faculties are Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, Technology Management and Technopreneurship and Engineering Technology whilst the two academic centres are the Language and Human Development Centre, and the University-Industry Centre (UNIC). The Centre for Graduate Studies was established to coordinate postgraduate studies at UTeM. UTeM aims to produce professionals who are highly qualifled, skillful, efflcient and technologically competent. UTeM Engineering programs are also accredited by Washington Accord.
Faculties and courses
The University is mainly made up of seven faculties namely Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Electronics and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Faculty of Technology Management And Technopreneurship and Faculty of Engineering Technology.
