Subpages

[edit]

Hey, Bhadani. I used you as an object lesson in the value of personal sub-pages: the boy had reluctantly conceded that his favorite band is not (yet) notable, and had politely asked if - should my RfA pass - I could suggest that special pages be made for "new and upcoming" bands. So I explained to him about personal sub-pages, and mentioned you and your father as an example. DS 17:08, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for supporting my RfA

[edit]

Dear Bhadani: I would like to thank you very much for your support on my RfA. I am most honoured by the trust that has been placed in me by yourself and other members of the Wikipedia community, especially since I did not conform to the standard edit-count criteria usually expected of administrator candidates. I promise to only use my administrative privileges to assist the community in doing good work, and also to be calm, considerate and careful in working to make Wikipedia a better place. Your faith in my abilities as an administrator is most kind; I do hope that I live up to your expectations. Thank you for voting on my RfA. Even though you didn't vote for me ;) I'd like to thank you for taking the time to give your opinion. Plus, it can help me along with the other comments to see how I can improve. In response to your comment, I am a 'him' and my first name is Grant. My intersts are primarily in television in the UK, and I have recently become a member of the British TV channels WikiProject. Whilst that is fairly slow moving project (it was started by Mr Weeble, then forgotten about and then restarted by him this year), I am hoping to be able to make useful edits to the channels that come under it's heading and make the project grow in size. Splitting {{India-geo-stub}}

[edit]

You're right that it's much in need of splitting, it'd be preferable if it were suggested at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals before creating stub types. Help at Ghurka?

[edit]

Hey, Bhadani. I was hoping you were a little knowledgeable in this area. After responding to a page protection request, I received a message from Gurkhaboy, a relatively new user (here and here) about Gurkha. Mr. Gorkhali is in some kind of a POV dispute, and thinks others have a "political agenda". While I have tried to help him with the principles of assume good faith and NPOV, I am way out of my depth with regards to the subject matter. If you are at all knowledgeable in the area, I was wondering if you could take a look at Gurkha and Talk:Gurkha and try to help our Gurkhaboy with it. He seems sincere. Thanks. Gurkha and Rajput article

[edit]

Dear Bhadani,

I kindly request your assistance in the matter of two articles. One being the Gurkha, since I wrote the history and origins, but am now seeing people come and edit it without realising that the person who wrote may in fact be an expert on this topic and not stating POVs but history as dictated in an academic setting. If you need to confirm my credentials, it is very easy to do so through the University of Toronto, Dr. Joseph T. O'Connell. I can provide more contact info if needed.

I am very new to this whole Wikipedia concept and not very computer literate so I am still learning how to use everything, I apologise for any mistakes.

The second concern is about the Rajput article which is being hijacked by some overzealous Pakistanis who wish to distort the article without citing any evidence or texts at all. If you follow the lengthy discussion, you will see that while others are quoting texts, and evidence that can hold in an academic environment, the Pakistani is simply claiming and using Bullying tactics to push individuals out of the discussion along with personal insults.

I have refrained from giving any photos or other archival material I own to the article sites because I fear that they may be misused against the communities in question.

Please feel free to contact me, I will try my best to assist in my busy schedule.

With deepest regards, Dr. Chauhan Gorkhali 10:02, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

    comment on a user

    [edit]

Hi, just noticed ur note on the talkpage abt ur official commitments. Since I'm anyway here, I'll give my comments on a user. However, pl. feel free to disregard this if you are busy. An anon IP in the series 70.x.x.x who claims to be User:Nirav.maurya sometimes, but doesn't sign-in with his id, has either started or contributed massively to Indian Muslim Nationalism, Indian nationalism, Hindu nationalism, Hindutva, Gandhism, Mahatma Gandhi, Hindu Rashtra, Criticism of Hinduism, Hindu, Hinduism, Contemporary Hindu movements, Narhari Parikh, Ravi Shankar Vyas, Mohanlal Pandya, Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha, Ram Manohar Lohia, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Jawaharlal Nehru. Previously, his edits used to be POV, now it is more a case of original research (WP:NOR), imo. I've not been able to convince him to sign-in and engage in constructive debate, nor hv I been able to go through all his edits. Yet, I'm just maintaining a log of articles that he is contributing to, 'coz I want to give him some more time. I find this also difficult to do as it involves tracking dynamic IPs and looking at the contribs of each such IP through diffs. However, I feel that unless some mechanism is devised, it'd be very difficult to stop him from engaging in this activity - imo, he gave up signing in 'coz the heat was getting to him as can be seen on Talk:Mahatma Gandhi, Talk:Gandhism and much later, my talk page (the last was without signing-in). I just noticed that he added the POV tag to British Raj with a specious reason on the talkpage. I felt you may be interested in having a look at these articles. The only reason why I haven't yet filed a RFC was that I wanted to give him some time. I've informed pamri, our latest admin abt the user and he suggested that I inform you as well, as you've dealt with him in the past. Thanks and regards, --Gurubrahma 17:39, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

    Anon User Issue

    [edit]

    Hello Mr. Bhadani,

Yes the anon user is myself. Nobody is taking my signname. Let me address the issues raised by Gurubrahma, and please forgive the length.

There is no need to feel that Wikipedia is somehow threatened by me. However, there are many differences in the way G'brahma and you operate, and how I've been doing stuff.

First off, I can't understand why there is a hullabaloo about anon contributions. Its Wikipedia's policy to allow anons to edit, isn't it? I understand about vandalism and damages done by anons, but you could solve that problem by asking for a change of rules. And if an anon is changing an article dramatically, just wait and see what the changes are. If it is indeed damaging, THEN correct them, instead of attacking an anon for working as an anon.

Somehow, there is too much emphasis on who the contributor is than the work on the articles done. If you feel my way of going about things here has been wrong, then get changes in the rules.

I have till now simply gone about adding info on the topics I know about. My thinking is that I should give all the info I can contribute to Wikipedia, bearing in mind obvious rules that it should be factual and least opinionated. I really never wanted to make an id, post on discussions and get involved with the community. Wikipedia was something I discovered in a low patch, and for about two months now has given me an interesting, though temporary pastime.

Yes, I was absolutely disgusted by the heated edit wars on various articles. Yes, I get angry and disenchanted very easily, becoz when somebody just tags your article negatively, or reverts your edits, that you've put several hours of work in, is very enraging. I feel that Wikipedia needs better laws about anybody's ability to change stuff and tag "NPOV" or whatever.

I cannot, and don't want to get used to Wikilaws and the community way, whatever. I poured my heart out on Gandhism, Indian Nationalism, Hindu Nationalism and a few other articles, and beyond this I really don't give a damn. My activities have dropped significantly in the past week, and will go all together by the next.

My problems with Gurubrahma are personal, definitely. I find him obnoxious, arrogant, opinionated and a self-appointed policeman, unlike you who are an official administrator. He will happily post "NPOV" notices and revert my edits in an instant, but never stop to look in the mirror. His blow-up on Purushottam Das Tandon was akin to my reactions on Gandhism. He was angry that somebody had attacked his own work, which I'm sure he'd put a lot of time into.

I apologized on the Gandhism article dispute becoz I recognized I was acting as if I owned the article. I wrote you that short note on my exit, becoz I felt it certain that I should leave. I decided later to pour out my heart on some subjects dear to me. Nevertheless, I'm done now. Believe what you like, but you won't find me visiting Wikipedia any more.

TWICE, I pulled out my criticism of Gurubrahma's articles becoz I didn't want to feud with him. Both times he reverted and attacked me, compelling me to respond.

The next apology was designed to expose what a fraud Gurubrahma is.

This man attacked my manhood, tried to portray me as a weasel. He attacked my non-participation on the page I'd created on my grandmother. You see, I had concluded it as inevitable that that article would be scrapped, and I had ceased visiting Wikipedia in that time.

When I apologized over my behavior on the Tandon article, he gloated and bid me goodbye and good luck. He said I had done a good job on certain articles, but if he had made that clear when we argued, this stupid waste of time would be avoided completely. And unlike me, he never apologized for his arrogance and rudeness over the Tandon article dispute. His response made clear to me his nature.

And NOW, this bastard goes about policing me. Has he paid the slightest regard to the info I contributed? NO! just that it was a bloody anon and ip address that kept doin' it.

To me, this is all insane! This is Wikipedia and the internet, not a parliament where all this clash of personality takes place. But I suppose this is about human nature. I don't know.

You and Gurubrahma are devoted Wikiusers, and good. You operate on different levels than me. I blow up at people who attack the integrity of my efforts (it has happened on the Jinnah page and couple of others, I think) You seem to have more patience. Perhaps Wikipedia should just stay the same, but it certainly doesn't fit me.

I know I'm wrong in some areas, but I sure as hell will stand by my work. If Wikipedia and its ultra-precious community doesn't want them, tough cheese...

My advice to you on how to solve the problem is simply go over the articles I've edited and see if there are really any problems. If so, address them. If not, LET THEM BE. Don't allow Gurubrahma to put up any sign he feels like, wherever he feels like.

Let me suggest some reforms for Wikipedia which might interest you: (1) Outlaw anon contributions, or put a length restriction (2) organize a better debate and discussion process, perhaps include more voting procedures or something. (3) don't let just anybody stick up an NPOV notice or revert edits, especially not without voicing their arguments beforehand.

    (4) The articles on my grandmother and your father WERE REAL GOOD. They informed millions of people about REAL INDIANS OF THAT GENERATION. What's wrong with that? Wikipedia would be a great encyclopedia for including info on REAL PEOPLE, not just celebrities and the famous lot. I understand space issues, but its something to consider nevertheless.

You and Gurubrahma can live the Wikilife as long as you like. I know none of my words will ever affect him or do anything. He will prolly feel fit to erase my work and comments in due time.

Don't reply to this, coz I prolly won't see it. Having finished reading this discourse, filled with anger and expletives, do the best for Wikipedia.

Jai Sri Rama! - Nirav Maurya

Hi Bhadani, saw this yesterday night on my RC Patrol. was wondering for the whole day if I shd reply to this here - anyway, I'll keep it short. The diffs from the articles that Nirav has mentioned above shd give a clear indication of what has been happening. My only objection was to an anon IP calling himself Nirav.maurya, 'coz this can be used as a ploy by other anon IPs doing other edits to discredit him or other users. Again, I don't think making personal attacks such as "bastard" is not done. I've a request to make though. This is your talkpage and hence you may be at the liberty to delete or archive or refactor your msgs. However, pl. do not delete the history of the edits made by the above user and me as we'd be in a position to access these from diffs at a later point in time, if need be. btw, saw Dore Chakravarthy's note below and I responded to him 'coz I thought I'll compensate in my own way for the demands I am placing on your time. Thanks a ton, --Gurubrahma 18:16, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • My response to above:
My dear friends, Nirav Maurya and Gurubrahma – at the outset, I apologize for responding late. Actually, in my opinion, the issue was to a great extent about an anonymous claiming to be Maurya, and I am sure all are welcome to make edits even anonymously. It is a different matter that making edits with a user name is more helpful. And, I have a suggestion too: we all must refrain from personal slurs and never use of derogatory words about others – in real life as well as in digital life. And, yes I do agree that all edits must be taken in totality. However, we are here to build an encyclopedia, and not a record of personal opinions. If we work together, we shall accomplish more – the spirit of wikipedia is surely the team spirit, and we all must remember that, and abide by the simplest rules of civil behavior. Further, I am sure that wikipedia is an interesting place to work together, and one should never go away with disgust. Life is a flow, and we must learn to flow with it, not drift like dead wood. I may be philosophical, but I am telling from my experience. One thing more, wikipedia is wikipedia not on account of admisnistrator-editors, but thousands of other editors like Gurubrahma, and several others who make it a point to keep a vigil on the contents – it is not policing, it is simply endeavoring to protect the credibility of wikipedia as an encyclopedia. Now, cheers, let us come closer to contribute to the best of our knowledge and abilities. --Bhadani 13:59, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Bhadani, thanks for your comments. My concern precisely was because of an anonymous claiming to be Maurya on some talkpages and anon on others. Thanks again, --Gurubrahma 11:51, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

they use abusive and illegal measures

    [edit]

These are the arguments posted on the page of "Moldovan language".

For these facts many users have been blocked and more forced to accept an unilateral point of view of the Administrator Mikkalai and 16 years old Kid Node_ue. He does not bring arguments as we do, instead he uses his power to block many times (for one week or 24 h). Like for yourself, he warned you and mock on you saying that you don't have the right to say something.

I agree with you when you say to redirect to "Romanian language". Anyway "Romanian" was once recognized in the constitution as official language of the Moldova between 1991-1994 and many attempts to remake this were done.

"Moldovan language" is in fact indentical with Romanian language, renamed as a "language" for political reasons by the government. Although similar theories have been fielded for other languages, this proposal is now believed to have been made to serve political purposes only, and nobody has provided any evidence so-far towards the idea that Moldovan and Romanian are not from common linguistic stock.

The term "Moldovan" is also a soviet invention (see Dept. of State & CIA). A separate language based on these was declared and promoted for political reasons, in order to further advance a Moldovan identity separate from that of Romania.

The soviet Russians called people of Moldavia Republic: "Moldovan" because they wanted to create a new nation different from Moldavians/Romanians.

There is also in Romania a region called Moldova.

Russians manipulated people of Republic of Moldova and washed their brains to create a new person, the soviet "Moldovan". The real name in English is Moldavian, in Romanian is Moldovean and in Russian is Molidavanin. So "Moldovan" belongs to no language!

Very interesting. For those who bother making a click on the link I will cite:

"The name 'Moldovan language' (in Russian, МОЛДaВCKИЙ ЯЗБIK 'moldavskii iazyk'); in Romanian, limbă moldovenească, or, in Cyrillic characters, ЛИMбЗ MOЛДОBeНЯCKЗ was applied in the Soviet Union, as during earlier periods of Russian occupation of the area in question, to the * Romance language used in the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (corresponding more or less to the formerly Romanian territory of Bessarabia, annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940). In reality, 'Moldavian' is nothing else than the *Romanian language as spoken in Moldavia, i.e. both east of the river Prut in Bessarabia (now the Republic of Moldova) and west of the Prut in that part of the former province that remains as part of Romania. Claims made in the post-Second World War period by the Soviet linguists that 'Moldavian' should be recognized as a distinct Romance language were not taken into seriously by western scholars. Under Soviet domination, the *Cyrillic alphabet was in the use in the Moldavian SSR until the passing of a law on 31 August 1989 (i.e. before the break-up of the Soviet Union) proclaiming Moldavian as the official language of the Republic and the use of Latin script. Apart from a few lexical differences (mainly technical terms borrowed from Russian rather than, as in standard Romanian, from western languages), the written language was thenceforth indistinguishable from that in use in Romania and moves are afoot to harmonize the technical terminology of Moldova with that adopted in Romanian specialized dictionaries. After the Republic of Moldova declared its independence of the Soviet Union in 1991, its Constitution (1994) declared that the official language was limba moldoveneasca 'the Moldavian language'. At the time of writing, moves to have this amended to 'limba română' the Romanian language have not yet succeeded.

    GLANVILLE PRICE"

Even at the internationally level (officially) is recognized that in Moldova the people speak romanian. Just for your record the US State Dept. (their foreign office), the french ministry of foreign affairs(France), the UK foreign office (UK), the german ministry of foreign affairs (Germany) are stating one think: in Moldova it is spoken romanian. romanian is the official language even if the name is moldovan. For the others motivated "moldovan language" followers please check the links:
    • German Foreign Ministry, Germany
    • US State Department, USA
    • France – Ministere des Affaires Etrangeres
    • UK – Foreign & Commonwealth Office

Others except the Russian are in the same manner. All the western powers refuse the russification attempts.

Artificial creation of the "Moldavian language". Evolution from Romanian to so called Moldavian

    [edit]

Lately were discovered some facts that prove that the theory of the both languages romanian and "moldovan" - was prefab since the 1812-1918. Some important aspects of the problematics: functioning of the romanian language in the sphere of the laic education system from Bessarabia of the year 1812-1918, the attempts to codyfing the romanian language in conditions of a linguistic situations, causes that determined to degradation of the language compared with spoken romanian on the right side of the river Prut, taking out the name "romanian" and introducing the term "limba moldoveneasca", the intention of the tsarist government "to create a dialect neared to the slavic language".

In the first years of russian occupation (after 1812), because 95% of the population being romanians which they knew only their mother tongue, romanian was admitted as an official language in the institutions of Bessarabia, used along with russian. Gradually the russian language win importance. According to the dates offered by the Dept. for ruling the Bessarabia from 1828, the papers from bureau were held only in russian, and around 1835 it is established a term of 7 years time in which the state institutions will still accept acts in romanian language. As concerning the education, romanian was admitted as language of teaching only until 1842, after that being taught as a separate object. Thus, at the theological Seminar of Chişinău, romanian language is found on the list of compulsory subjects, with 10 hours weekly, until 1863, when the department of romanian is closed for good. At the highschool no. 1 from Chişinău the pupils had the right to choose between romanian and german or between romanian and greek until 9th of Feb. 1866, when the state counselor of the russian government interdicts teaching of the romanian language because the pupils "know this language in the practical mode, and its teaching follows other goals". Around 1871, the tsar published an ucaz "On the suspension of teaching the romanian language in the schools from Besserabia", because "In russian Empire are not taught local speeches".

Two examples of the identity were given: (one is from the constitution of both countries – see the identity)

    Comparison Romanian/Moldavian

    [edit]

The example below demonstrates that a formal text in Romanian and Moldovan may be completely identical, the only difference being the spelling of the î vowel in the word vântul. The colloquial languages show more difference, which varies over the area.

    Re:vedic mythology

    [edit]

You are wrong: Shaivism is the worship of Shiva and his inspiration; Hindu mythology is the big cake from which the vedic part is sliced.

Vedic mytho is too closely linked in my opinion: (1) all the stuff about Indra, Vritra etc. too closely influences Ramayana and Mahabharata, which are considered Hindu mytho. To explain each properly, we need the reader to be aquainted with both.

IN ADDITION: W/o Vedic mytho, all Hindu mytho will primarily be is Ramayana and Mahabharata. We have two big articles on those two in the first place, so what does one put in Hindu mytho that makes it special.

Plus, most people consider Hindu and Vedic to be inseparable and pretty much same: so why confuse them by separate articles, when the point can be made by a big section inside one article?

If you are worried about the length, then don't: Hindu mytho needs expansion anyway. There is a threat of repeat material if one does not merge.

I don't know if you wanna vote yes or no after this, but I'll tally the votes on Nov. 28. - Jai Sri Rama! Rama's Arrow.

Allegations on the Vedic mythology talkpage

    [edit]

I wish you had noticed that I only printed an updated version of my comments on your talkpage. If I had not, then you would not have put up my true comments.

The so-called Experiment in Democracy my dear fellow, is respecting other people's viewpoints. This can't be a FREE ENCYLOPEDIA if you don't offer due respect to a person's statements.

And I wish you wouldn't squirm about a use of a word like bloody. It is absolutely harmless, not even directed at you.

All I was doing is respecting your POV. It seems ridiculous that you want to challenge that very honorable practice.

We can argue about this till eternity, which I have absolutely no desire to do. I will check on Monday for the final vote tally, and will respect the decision. - User:Rama's Arrow.

    Dosing

    [edit]

Dosing must be an article. This cannot be merged with dose. In fact dosing, a verb form for the word dose, must be included in article dose. Dosing also has appeared in many other articles. We have to place a link in those articles. Please see to this. What the other person has done appears to me to be a total mistake.

    [edit]

Sent a note on talk page like this to CDN99.

Surprised! Merger with Article Dose does not go with the contents of talk page Dosing. Please read again the talk page on Dosing. The contents are very clear to represent the use of the word Dosing in Industries even to day. My vast experience for years in various countries also supports this idea of mine. Please therefore remove merger and confirm. Then I can make this an Article. You can rethink of what you have to do in the case of article Dose.

    Dosing

    [edit]

What do you suggest now please on the reply reproduced below. I am unable to decide what to do next.

Until there is an article for dosing, there should be a redirect to dose for the articles that link to dosing; just like trade-trading, etc. Words that differ in their suffix don't usually warrant separated articles, especially when they are disambiguation pages.--CDN99 18:17, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Merry Christmas to you and your family, I just returned from spending Christmas with some of my very old friends and their family and just saw you message. I also wish you and your family all the best for the New Year.

I have tried to stay away from Wikipedia since it has been more of a frustration for myself. However I do pop in every now and then to see what is happening. I saw that you fixed up the Gurkha article and becuase of your editing, it looks so much better. Then I saw someone else come in and simply edit what they thought is appropriate which is quite disappointing.

Thank you Bhadani for your Season's Greetings and for helping me with the Gurkha Article.

    Dear Bhadani

    [edit]

I took your advice about staying with Wikipedia since i now see that I shouldn't give up on something that could actually turn out for the best and help others.

I am really on a tight schedule since I am stuck with a bunch of things as well as getting the next relief mission set up for the Himalyan foothills in India. I should be with the next medical relief program in Uttaranchal India by May 2006, so I am busy in preparing and organising.

I will try and slip stuff into the Gurkha article when I can. I recently voted on a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Dbachmann_%282%29#Other_users_who_endorse_this_summary

Its very ugly, but I have been following it for a while and after seeing "The Resonse", I just couldn't keep silent.

Hope all is well with you and take care. And thank you again for your encouragement.
