Hmm, I feel like it would be good to have some better way of specifying that this is only the companies in the index with Wikipedia articles - otherwise "none" makes it sound like the index has no companies in that category. LittlePuppers (talk) 22:35, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
I think redlinks can be used to include potentially notable companies in those fields. — Frostly (talk) 03:55, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
Probably, and that's what was done a few sections up (S&P 400). That said, the one above has articles for just under 90% of the companies, while this looks like it would be closer to 30%. LittlePuppers (talk) 04:27, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
Firstly, I'm not sure there are any companies in the index that represent the telecoms sector - the section was included in case some are added in the future, but maybe it's best simply to remove it.
Secondly, I guess if this was actually a page with a list of the companies, we should think about including them all (better for them not to be linked). However, as this is a navbox, I don't see that it makes much sense to include companies or links if the pages don't exist. Further, there is no claim that navboxes are complete - however we are likely to find that once it is created, people start adding the remaining links, and even creating articles to fill in the gaps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.15.214.198 (talk) 20:44, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
Come to think of it, the FTSE Fledgling Index doesn't have any telecoms companies either... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.15.214.198 (talk) 17:46, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
Also, I wouldn't sorry about it being "30%". Once it's created it can easily be added to. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.15.214.198 (talk) 22:34, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
Please note updated source above to include more companies.

Templates trying to load Non existent portals

Please see Category:Portal templates with redlinked portals. There are large number of these resulting from YYYY type templates which are trying to load Portals which have been deleted - typically decades and countries I believe. I think an ifexists instruction within the template will resolve these. Template editing is beyond me so can anyone assist? Lyndaship (talk) 14:17, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

A Falcon launches clone of Template:TLS-L and Template:TLS-M

SpaceX increasing launch cadence has changed the look of List of Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches. So I need a clone of Template:TLS-M where I can point the month to first launch of the month or none if no launches in that month or to future launches if the launch is pending and is currently in future launches section. I need a clone of Template:TLS-L to list all the Falcon launches as [[F9-300|300]] that have id like "F9-300" so that users can navigate to a particular launch. All is for user viewership of this article. Thanks in advance......—🪦VSVNB1058 (2020-2023) (TALK) 03:27, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

Mind it this List of Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches is a wikitable article, not a TLS navigational box so a problem. —🪦VSVNB1058 (2020-2023) (TALK) 03:29, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
I disagree that this is needed. Firstly nothing has "changed about the look of List of Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches". The page is just as it's always been. Secondly TLS-M was not intended for the what you want it to use it for. It would make the current page even more busy than it currently is. Thirdly, it is already possible to link directly to missions on the page. Like so: List of Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches#F9-300 Ergzay (talk) 11:57, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
I am asking this List of Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches#F9-300 for readers and non editors. they can neither link nor have a dialog box like contents sidebar. —🪦VSVNB1058 (2020-2023) (TALK) 12:04, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
What do you mean by "dialog box like contents sidebar"? Ergzay (talk) 13:24, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
The three dots on left of page title at the top in destop view if its hidden by you or automatically hidden is contents sidebar. It's a guide to readers to navigate to sections, same will occur if we create a clone of TLS-L—🪦VSVNB1058 (2020-2023) (TALK) 13:33, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
Right, I'm still not understanding you. The table of contents is part of the article so it's not a sidebar, and the Falcon 9 list page has a table of contents in the article. So there's nothing readers are missing. Ergzay (talk) 14:16, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
I want a similar tool to help readers navigate to a particular launch id say 264, like they navigate to sections using table of contents. Clone of TLS-L will help —🪦VSVNB1058 (TALK) 15:23, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
I think you'll get pushback trying to include a table of every single launch like that in the wikipage. Ergzay (talk) 20:48, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
Oh then it will be bad —🪦NΛSΛ B1058 (TALK) 12:09, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

"Historical affiliations"

Historical affiliations

Would be similar to the blue box at Dunkirk#Corsair_base or Brussels#History, except it would be a template instead of a quote box.

    Here's an example of Brussels':

    Historical affiliations

    County of Leuven c. 1000–1183
    alt Duchy of Brabant 1183–1430
     Burgundian Netherlands 1430–1482

    Conditional table columns

What would be the best way to alter Template:Train station table to make the entire "Stop" and "Destination" columns conditional, to completely disappear from the header and rows when not wanted? See Edgewater railway station for the template in normal use. – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 11:12, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Theoretically something like what I've done at Template:Train station table/sandbox could work:
    Edgewater station platforms
    Platform Line Stopping pattern Notes
    1 Joondalup All station, K
    2 Joondalup All stations
    K
Although I wouldn't be surprised if there was a cleaner way to make that change. LittlePuppers (talk) 22:35, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

IAFD film ID -> IAFD film UUID

Old IAFD film IDs (d:Property:P5098) are used in this template: Template:IAFD movie. IAFD has recently started using UUIDs for films. The old links still work. However, the old IDs are no longer visible on the website. As of today, the UUID can be retrieved from Wikidata: d:Property:P12654. All Wikidata items with an old film ID now also have a new film UUID. It would be advisable to adapt your template. -- Reise Reise (talk) 16:48, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

    Text direction template

I need a template that can rearrange text from left-to-right to right-to-left and vice versa that can be used for scripts which were written in boustrophedon or otherwise had no specific writing directions. It should look similar to {{lang}}.

I haven't been able to find any already existing template with this function so far, so would it be feasible to create this? Antiquistik (talk) 00:06, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

    Substitute page name in Template:Sfd-t

Please can Template:Sfd-t and Template:Sfr-t be amended to subst the full page name of the template as the section name for the discussion? At the moment, articles which transclude a stub showing these templates look for the article name as the section heading rather than the stub template name. Template:Template for discussion substitutes the page name correctly, but I don't understand the code well enough to copy it myself. – Fayenatic London 10:57, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

    Shortcut for Interchange stations

We already have shortcuts for displaying rail station links among other related transport shortcuts, i.e. {{Stnlnk}} and {{Stn}}.

As there are some stations in the United Kingdom and elsewhere where the article title contains "Interchange" and not any form of "station", I would like to propose a new template with the same purpose: {{Intc}}.

I cannot create this template as this would end up being a highly visible template in an instant, and since I'm not a Template editor, I'd be locked out of my own creation at that point.

    Two tarot templates

In Template talk:Card#Completeness, there was a request from User:Crissov back on April 15, 2011 to add more cards for the sake of completeness. Personally, I think it would be better to create two more templates: one for card game articles using images from commons:Category:Tarot nouveau - Grimaud - 1898, and one for divination articles using images from commons:Category:Rider-Waite tarot deck (Roses & Lilies). Of course, as an IP user, I don't have the authority to create new templates. 72.216.186.113 (talk) 00:35, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

One template should be fine too, and we could pass in an argument to specify which pattern to use 72.216.186.113 (talk) 00:08, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

First raised this on the template's talk page to no avail. There were previous discussions (1, 2, 3, 4) that led to removing the link automatically added to the artist name parameter, but apparently it was replaced with a hidden autolink that has the same problems, e.g. linking to disambiguation pages or to the wrong person entirely. This came to my attention regarding Statue of Jackie Robinson (Wichita, Kansas) with its hidden link to the John Parsons disambiguation page where the non-notable artist isn't listed. Coincidentally, this also happens with Statue of Jackie Robinson (Jersey City) with its hidden link to Susan Wagner who isn't an artist. Can this autolinking be removed once and for all? -- Pemilligan (talk) 13:36, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

    Template:Tennis record expansion

Need an update for Template:Tennis record. What you see there is a basic win–loss template to help new editors who always forget to use an ndash. If you look at the prior version it always included a win percentage to one decimal. No way around it that I can see. So it would only show 11–10 (52.4%). A lot of time this is placed in an infobox where we really don't need the percentage. What I would like is to be able to have {{tennis record|won=11|lost=10}} simply show 11–10, but have an additional parameter available like |pct=yes to show that percentage to one place so it would look like 11–10 (52.4%). This way the template could be more flexible. And place it in the /testcases so I could see how it would work. This original template never got approval from "WikiProject Tennis" to use in tennis infoboxes and other places and it needs to have that flexibility for multi-use. And while I can't for the life of me figure why we would ever want to fill the infobox with the "details=" section, that should probably also be included just as the old version had. I can update the documentation as needed since what is there now is actually out of date. Thanks. Fyunck(click) (talk) 08:49, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

    Graphic for Template:Infobox NFL_season

Template:Infobox NFL_season – I'm seeking the ability to add a graphic and a caption to the top of the infobox used for individual NFL seasons, similar to the way a graphic can be added to { {Infobox person} } or { {Infobox baseball biography} } or { {Infobox NFL biography} }. For some reason { {Infobox college sports team season} } already has this functionality, but the NFL season infobox gives an "unknown parameter" warning if one tries to shoehorn a graphic into place. Thanks! (Please ping me if questions or comments) Carrite (talk) 19:15, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

@Carrite: Out of curiosity, since I'm an editor in the NFL area, what are you trying to add to the seasons? Just the team logos? Personally I think that would add unnecessary bloat, but that's just my opinion and I recognize not everyone would agree with that. Also noting that there's already a caption at the top of the infoboxes, unless you're asking for text to be displayed above them? Hey man im josh (talk) 19:24, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
You could use the logo field if you want. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 21:15, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
Clarifying based on a post at a Wikipedia criticism forum, which includes a screenshot. (The template is actually at Template:Infobox NFL team season; "NFL season" redirects.) Carrite wants to include a team photo; the logo parameter wouldn't work as a kludge because of the desirability of a caption. See 1953 Baltimore Colts season, where the photo has been inserted above the infobox as a kludge. Can anyone with the template editor right add the necessary bits? Yngvadottir (talk) 22:49, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
I'm not a fan of that for a few reasons. In the case of the 1953 Baltimore Colts season, I don't think it's a good image for an infobox because of how big it is. A whole team being in a group shot, shrunk down and placed into an infobox, doesn't particularly add a lot. It's honestly doing a disservice to a good photo that could be at least thumbnail sized lower in the article. What happens when we don't have a team photo though? It comes down to picking a picture that encapsulates the season? If we were to be added images to NFL infoboxes I'd be strongly in favour of it being for the team logos at the time, similar to how Pro Football Reference does it and to match what they do for college team season articles.
