A 2008 analysis of the Austronesian Basic Vocabulary Database[1] fully supported the unity of the Papuan Tip languages.
The analysis included the Central Papuan languages Magori, Motu, and Mekeo; Kilivila; and several "Nuclear Papuan Tip" languages. Neither traditional Nuclear Papuan Tip nor its main branch, North Papuan Mainland–D'Entrecasteaux, were supported as units. The position of Maisin was not tested.
- Central Papuan languages
- Kilivila-Nuclear
- Kilivila-Louisiades languages (at least Kilivili fits here)
- Are-Taupota (at least Are fits here)
- Nuclear Papuan Tip languages (reduced)
The other branches of North Papuan Mainland–D'Entrecasteaux, Anuki, Gumawana, and the Kakabai languages, were not considered in the 2008 analysis.
