The Apple Watch Series 6 is the sixth-generation model of the Apple Watch. It was announced on September 15, 2020 during an Apple Special Event alongside the Apple Watch SE, and began shipping to the public on September 18. Its principal improvement over its predecessors is the inclusion of a sensor to monitor blood oxygen saturation. Hermés, Nike+, and Edition models of the watch are available.

Overview

The Apple Watch Series 6 features a blood oxygen monitoring sensor which can detect changes in blood oxygen levels.[1]

Additional new features[2][3] include:

  • an S6 SiP (based on a dual-core processor derived from the A13 Bionic chip in the iPhone 11) that runs up to 20% faster than the Apple Watch Series 5
  • a U1 chip and UWB antennas for ultra-wideband communications (this will enable next-generation digital car keys)
  • a 2.5x brighter always-on display
  • an always-on altimeter
  • faster charging that completes in under 1.5 hours
  • up to 18 hours battery life[4]
  • improved battery life for tracking certain workout types such as indoor and outdoor running
  • improved health and fitness capabilities
  • supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi[5]
  • new Product Red and Navy Blue color options
