I work on a lot of stringed instrument articles and this is a great resource which makes a good reference but I am not allowed to add it as it seems to be blocked. I'm not sure why. Maybe because it's on a free host? Would it be at all possible to unblock this site? There's nothing spammy about it. Spam blacklists |
---|
|
The Spam-whitelist page is used in conjunction with the Mediawiki SpamBlacklist extension, and lists strings of text that override Meta's blacklist and the local spam-blacklist. Any administrator can edit the spam whitelist. Please post comments to the appropriate section below: Proposed additions (web pages to unblock), Proposed removals (sites to reblock), or Troubleshooting and problems; read the messageboxes at the top of each section for an explanation. See also MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist.
Please enter your requests at the bottom of the Proposed additions to Whitelist section and not at the very bottom of the page. Sign your requests with four tildes: ~~~~
Also in your request, please include the following:
- The link that you want whitelisted in the section title, like === example.com/help/index.php === .
- The Wikipedia page on which you want to use the link
- An explanation why it would be useful to the encyclopedia article proper
- If the site you're requesting is listed at /Common requests, please include confirmation that you have read the reason why requests regarding the site are commonly denied and that you still desire to proceed with your request
Important: You must provide a full link to the specific web page you want to be whitelisted (leave out the http://
from the front; otherwise you will not be able to save your edit to this page). Requests quoting only a domain (i.e. ending in .com
or similar with nothing after the /
character) are likely to be denied. If you wish to have a site fully unblocked please visit the relevant section of MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist.
Note: Do not request links to be whitelisted where you can reasonably suspect that the material you want to link to is in violation of copyright (see WP:LINKVIO). Such requests will likely be summarily rejected.
There is no automated notification system in place for the results of requests, and you will not be notified when your request has a response. You should therefore add this page to your personal watch list, to your notifications through the subscribe feature, or check back here every few days to see if there is any progress on it; in particular, you should check whether administrators have raised any additional queries or expressed any concerns about the request, as failure to reply to these promptly will generally result in the request being denied.
Completed requests are archived, additions and removal are logged. →snippet for logging: {{/request|538464048#section_name}}
Note that requests from new or unregistered users are not usually considered.
Admins: Use seth's tool to search the spamlists.

I don't know anything about the history of freeforums.org itself, but apparently their has been some abusive use of that service. However, rosasm.freeforums.org is a totally legitimate use of that service. This is the only official site that currently exists for RosAsm. All of the other sites/links for RosAsm are dead so it is important to be able to list the rosasm.freeforums.org site in the article.
RosAsm itself is a very interesting project. It is an x86 Assembly Language with many high level features that are unique to this specific assembler+IDE. The article itself certainly could use some clean-up and NPV, but -- speaking as someone who has written a lot of assembly code -- over-all I feel that it is a worthwhile article that explains what makes RosAsm interesting. I myself have no connection to this project and only learned of it's existance today. OldCodger2 (talk) 04:02, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

I am currently trying to improve the wikipedia page on this band, and despite the name, there is nothing pornographic about it. That is their official site, and currently their bandcamp page is listed as their official site, which really makes me OCD. I'm trying to make this is accurate as I can, and I can't do that without listing their official site. Jobbo256 (talk) 23:26, Saturday 24 November 2012 (UTC)

The article I am requesting is from Examiner.com and the page that I would like this to be added to is the talk page for the article on Paula Broadwell. I have noted that this website, Examiner.com, is listed at /Common requests. The reason that I believe it is useful to not and should be included is that it is an article that mentions the Wikipedia article about Paula Broadwell. It is for that reason that I believe it reaches the requirements for it to be included into the section called, "This article has been mentioned by multiple media organizations," on the talk page since Examiner.com is considered to be a media organization. In addition, I have also noted that since I am not logged in, it will be unlikely that this request will be considered at all along with my request being unusual. I still would like to make the effort to do so before giving up. 204.106.251.214 (talk) 08:54, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

- If the matter has been mentioned by multiple media organizations, please cite one of those others organizations that is more reliable. Stifle (talk) 20:18, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
- I do not think that it would be possible to cite another media organization that would say Examiner.com mentioned the article. To be a bit clearer in my request, I am asking if the link could be whitelisted so that it could be place on the talk page as part of the "This article has been mentioned by multiple media organizations" section. I attempted to do so a while back and was unable to do so in the proper way. In any case, thank you for giving a reply to this. :) --Super Goku V (talk) 05:04, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

I would like to add this specific link to the article Highway 38 (Israel) as a reference in the History section. It is my opinion that interested readers will benefit because it provides a map of the area in question and provides firsthand, original photos of Roman milestones supporting the contention that the road was an important route during Roman times. One other specific biblewalks page was whitelisted for the English Wikipedia article, Ketef Hinnom. I believe this request exhibits identical criteria. - 2. The page that you want to use the link on: Miniaturized satellite
- 3. Explanation of why it would be useful to the encyclopedia article proper: This article has been tagged for a long period of time for having the key aspects of the classification schema for miniaturized satellites being unsourced. The size classifications have been controversial, and the existing US Defense industry news source appears insufficient. So I found a European source, from a university with a well-known aerospace and space studies program, in a 2010 masters' thesis by J. Tristancho with faculty supervisor J. Gutierrez. Unfortunately, the only source for the masters' thesis was at this particular Google link.
- NET (from my edit comment that was blocked by the SPAM filter): "would like to add a European source with the same smallsat size classification schema (since this has been a source of contention, it is probably best to have two sources)"
- 4. I have checked the list at /Common requests, I did not find the site on this list.
- 5. For reference sake, here is the full citation I had written up for that article claim:
<ref name=upc2010> {{cite journal |last=Tristancho|first=Joshua |coauthors=Gutierrez, Jordi |title=Implementation of a femto-satellite and a mini-launcher |journal=Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya |year=2010 |pages=3 |language=English |url=http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=10&ved=0CHoQFjAJ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fupcommons.upc.edu%2Fpfc%2Fbitstream%2F2099.1%2F9652%2F1%2Fmemoria.pdf&ei=YInIUJTXFYPJyAGA_YAQ&usg=AFQjCNGUWrsJXF3wXrgg6EBoYeu9juq-7A&sig2=240C53Jff5roGaTeOPFktQ&bvm=bv.1354675689,d.aWc&cad=rja |accessdate=2012-12-12 }}</ref>
- I would appreciate help on this from anyone authorized to make such an exception. N2e (talk) 15:20, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

puneritraveller.com
The links that I would like to add are:
- web.archive.org/web/20110715132457/ ... www.puneritraveller.com/diveagar.html
- www.puneritraveller.com/diveagar.html
I have no opinion as to why the site should be whitelisted, nor do I know why it was blacklisted; however this one page is one of the few electronic links that provides any information about Diveagar Beach, and it would help the article to avoid the single source problem. The current page does have a little advertising on it, but it is not excessive and there seems to be no malware present. The archived page has less information, but also no advertising. I have no particular information about the reliability of the site, but the information provided is consistent with the other source, and with photographs, captions and maps of the area. The Diveagar Beach article previously cited this puneritraveller.com page from 24 April 2012 until it was removed by the revision of 10:03, 26 October 2012, which substituted (spammed) a hotel advertisment page in its place.

- It was a part of a Mass Multi domain related adsense WP:CITESPAM campaign. See WikiProject Spam report. The link (AdSense 4745416745431134) in question was added as SEO, just like the others spammed into the article. Seems to be nothing more than a low value Made for adsense disguised as a tourist site. I don't think this link meets either of our External Links or Reliable Sources guidelines.--Hu12 (talk) 18:12, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Well this page in question might have been made at a target to promote links to in order to increase search engine ranking for the overall site, but it was not created originally as a Made for adsense site, since it had no advertising. See the archived site from 15 July 2011 mentioned above. I would be just as happy to have just the archived site exempted, which should not lure anyone. As to reliability, see my comment above. I suspect that the original travel site either hired someone to promote them, which created the issue you mention, or was taken over by such a person. --Bejnar (talk) 02:18, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- The source code from 15 July 2011 archive contains the Adsense ads (pub-4745416745431134) as does every web snapshot going back to Sept 10, 2010. That positively identifies it as the same site owner and not coincidentally, the same IP range has been spamming them for over 4 years (since the site was created). Its a low value Made for adsense site that has been spammed by the same individual (along with his other seven Made for adsense sites). Sorry.--Hu12 (talk) 05:55, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Statsheet is a reputable webstite for sports statistics. Many Wikipedia pages, especially those of athletes or sports teams, would benefit from being able to link to this site generally.
The page for Brad Loesing would benefit from linking to this site, particularly statsheet.com/mcb/players/stats/minutes_avg?season=2011-2012 to show that he was 4th in the nation in minutes per game during the 2011-12 basketball season.

casarealportuguesa.org/dynamicdata/documentos.asp
Hello, I'd like to request the unblocking of the website casarealportuguesa.org. I ask this because I avidly work on royalist and historical articles pertaining to Portugal, and the site is the official site of the current Duke of Braganza, Duarte Pio. I am currently working on expanding his article, and I'm trying to explain the various roles the Duke holds, as well as trying to present both sides of arguments between the Duke and the Portuguese Republic. The whole website's unblocking would be quite useful, as I could then use the various pages on the site for various articles here on wiki, such as Afonso, Prince of Beira and Isabel, Duchess of Braganza, but it would be the most useful to the article of Duarte Pio and the House of Braganza. On the site, there is an archive of his previous roles, agendas, events, and communiqués, which would help me present the Duke's roles, activities, and his side to quarrels. I appreciate any and all feedback, and I hope that we can work together so that these articles on Wikipedia can be that much more informative and sourced. Thank you, Cristiano Tomás (talk) 23:02, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Foster broke up with her long-time girlfriend, Cydney Bernard, in 2008. Jodie and Cydney had been dating since www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00016024.html. People are treating her 2013 speech about her sexuality as a "coming out speech" when in reality she came out publicly (and broke up with her partner) wuite a while ago. Just the page needs to be whitelisted. --DHeyward (talk) 17:49, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Preqin is a research company focused on the alternative assets industry (a.k.a. hedge funds) and I'd like to use one of their reports to support a point about who invests in hedge funds on the Talk page of the article of the same name. Requesting unblock to aid the discussion there and perhaps be considered for inclusion in the article's references. WWB Too (Talk · COI) 15:10, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- I don't see the discussion there being hampered by the inability to link that page. Furthermore, I don't see a consensus emerging that this link is even a valid reference for the point you are trying to make. We don't white-list pages to "be considered for inclusion". It's being considered on Talk:Hedge fund right now. This isn't a denial of your request; it's just that I don't see a compelling reason here to white-list, yet.
- I note that other potential sources like https://www.managedfunds.org/hedge-fund-investors/who-invests/ also reference this source, although it's curious that they don't question where the preqin source got that information. There are other sources that don't reference preqin, such as this Reuters page: http://www.hedgeworld.com/education/index.cgi?page=hedge_fund_basics ~Amatulić (talk) 21:12, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

I've created http://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=006337113803439356310:qmncn5902lc , a "Reliable Sources for horror films" custom search, I'd like to include it at User:MichaelQSchmidt/Reliable_sources_for_horror_films. The custom search points to the websites that Michael curated as reliable; it will help to locate reliable sources for horror film stubs. I'm not affiliated with Google nor any of the linked sites, and the search engine hasn't ads enabled nor any other profit scheme that I'm aware of. Diego (talk) 10:21, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'd like to point out that a similar customized Google search already exists and is actively used by Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games to search for reliable sources about video games (this is what gave me the idea). Diego (talk) 13:03, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
- This is exactly why I was opposed to permitting any of the custom searches to start with, as once you allow one, you end up pressurized to allow all. I recuse from this discussion as I am not neutral. Stifle (talk) 20:37, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

I am requesting for Movie Review Intelligence to be whitelisted in its entirety. It is currently on the blacklist because a few years ago, it was a non-prominent website that was solicited in film articles by those involved with the website. Plenty of time has passed, and it appears that the website has gained prominence. I made a request on the blacklist's talk page to remove the website, but Hu12 (talk · contribs) declined this request as seen here. I discussed the decline with him on his talk page, and his reasons for declining were WP:ELNO #9 and that the website was not a reliable source. I disagree with these reasons; WP:ELNO #9 does not apply because MRI is a staffed website like Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. In addition, I believe that the website can be considered reliable. Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic are websites that are considered reliable sources to use as either references or external links.
At the time of the blacklisting, Movie Review Intelligence was not prominent enough to be grouped with these. Now, we have the website mentioned with RT and MC at Yahoo! Movie News here, and the Associated Press cites MRI's scores with RT's and MC's as evidenced here and here. I mentioned all this to Hu12 here, and he suggested making a whitelist request. As one of the editors who supported the initial blacklisting, I now think that this website should at the very least be available to include as either a reference or as an external link. The WikiProject Film community can develop a consensus on how to best use this website, as it has done for Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic (see Wikipedia:Review aggregators). I would like for other editors to assess this request. Please let me know if this is not the proper course of action; I am simply disputing the decline of the blacklist removal request. Thanks, Erik (talk | contribs) 16:43, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- This page is not the place to request blanket white-listing of an entire site. That's the same as removing it from the blacklist. Removal requests should be there.
- If you want to request a specific page on that site to be whitelisted, this is the place to do it. I believe that's what Hu12 had in mind when suggesting to post here.
- I will also point out that a site's prominence is irrelevant to the question of whether the site should remain blacklisted. All that matters is whether the disruption that caused the blacklisting is likely to resume.
- I have re-opened the discussion at MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist#Movie Review Intelligence, because I disagree with Hu12's rationale for denying it. Here on this page, I will mark this request as Declined. ~Amatulić (talk) 18:45, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Please add the following page:
1. examiner.com/article/free-comic-book-day-what-a-haul
2. For this article: Free Comic Book Day
3. It is useful because it supports the statement "However, successful Free Comic Book Day events in 2005 and 2006 did not have specific date tie-ins to comics-related movie openings, proving that the event is more than capable of standing on its own, while the 2004 event was linked with the July opening of the second Spider-Man movie and was deemed less successful for falling outside of the regular school year." within the Free Comic Book Day article.
4. It directly supports that statement and it includes comments that support things within the FCBD article supported by other references (such as the distributor and purposes of FCBD), which would serve to verify the reliability of the article. Whitelisting requests for Examiner.com pages are usually denied because they might be written by the person they are about, but this article is about an event and not a person. I am a long time editor with no previous ties to Examiner.com or the author Robert Sodaro; I am only trying to add a reference to a sentence within the Free Comic Book Day article that needs one. I thought this was already closed, but as you seem to want a final judgment, I will provide it.
The examiner article claims "that particular event wasn't considered as successful as it occurred outside of the regular school year." It "wasn't considered" by whom? Why should we take the author at his word? Is it just his opinion? He doesn't say who didn't consider the event successful, other than a making a vague and unsubstantiated reference to "a fair amount of press." That "fair amount of press" is what should be referenced, not this examiner article. Sorry, I can't fathom how that examiner article could possibly be considered as a reliable source for such a claim. Declined. ~Amatulić (talk) 23:23, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

I am requesting to use www.examiner.com/article/the-far-left-turns-to-nate-silver-for-wisdom-on-the-polls?cid=db_articles for the article on FiveThirtyEight. I am editing his page to include discussion of the criticism he received from conservative political pundits in the last few weeks leading up to the presidential election on November 6, 2012. The criticism was about his predictions being overly biased towards Barack Obama. The article linked was written by one of the people criticizing his work who also put out his own prediction of the election that was ultimately very biased towards Mitt Romney. Other links only discuss political pundits who criticized his work, and they were not written by an individual who made his own predictions of the election, so this would provide a strong primary source reference for the section. I have no ties whatsoever to the author of the linked article, I think his analysis of the polls and prediction of the election was shoddy and idiotic, and there is no other way to link to this primary source other than through this URL. Care2 petition: www.thepetitionsite.com/843/838/964/spare-oxen-bill-and-lou-from-slaughter/
This source is needed as a cite for a proposed addition of text--to be inserted in an entry on Green Mountain College--which has been the subject of very intense dispute and debate, highlighted in bold: “The college's decision prompted opposition from townspeople, animal rights supporters and tens of thousands of online petitioners worldwide who signed a petition stating that the two oxen, after working for 10 years, deserve to retire in a sanctuary.” The bolded proposal, which is now acceptable to the various participants in the dispute (see Talk), is intended to mitigate concerns of WP: Undue.
The GMC entry describes the controversy surrounding the college's decision to slaughter two oxen, Bill and Lou, and the above addition describes an articulated rationale against slaughter. As noted above, the proposal is now acceptable to all dispute participants, which makes source citation the only remaining issue--if the care2 petition can be whitelisted, the current content dispute will be fully resolved. The proposal is a neutralized summary of the following text in the care2 petition:
Please encourage Green Mountain College to allow Bill & Lou to be adopted by the VINE Sanctuary in Vermont where they can live out the remainder of their lives. They've worked so hard for the college for 10 years and deserve a better fate than ending up on someone's plate!

- Not done, and apologies for the long delay in response (thanks for the heads up on my talk page).
- That examiner.com piece reads like marketing fluff, and indeed, it's written by a marketing person, making me wonder if there's some sort of promotional relationship between the author and NoDak. The piece doesn't seem to contain any information beyond what can be found on the company web site.
- Specifically, the article NoDak Films citations 2 and 8 use those examiner.com links. Citation 2 is redundant and unnecessary, already covered by another reference. Citation 8 is used to source a statement about who contributed to a film, and that information appears to have come directly from http://www.nodakfilms.com/blog/static.php?page=List
- Looking through the nodakfilms web site, especially their page http://www.nodakfilms.com/model.htm, I see nothing in the examiner.com article that isn't already found at the primary source. It's almost as if the author of the examiner article wrote it while viewing the website. ~Amatulić (talk) 21:50, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

The article I wish to link is: examiner.com/article/hoekstra-reconsiders-decides-to-challenge-stabenow
I read the Common Requests and it looks like the issues regarding examiner.com are more closely related to editorial policy then outright spam.
This particular article is non-controversial in content and is being used as a replacement for a dead link that was available in a better known publication: [2]. The Detroit News routinely removes articles after a short period of time. The content is reliable, but the examiner has preserved it's content longer.
It should be made available for the article, United States Senate election in Michigan, 2012. Currently, the citation is referenced in a non-linked form.--Libertyguy (talk) 05:01, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
- Searching both Google News and Google Web for "hoekstra stabenow", I find plenty of references corroborating the statements made in that July 2012 examiner.com article. The outcome of Hoekstra's challenge is now well-known history.
- Furthermore, the only thing in the article that referenced the examiner.com article was a simple statement that Hoekstra qualified for the ballot, which seems a bit out of context given the subject of the examiner.com article. The fact that he was on the ballot is a known fact, and ballot qualifications should be available on public government websites anyway.
- Finally, the Peter Hoekstra article makes a statement that's basically identical to the headline of the examiner.com article; this is sourced to http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/07/20/did-the-gop-get-the-candidate-it-wanted-in-michigan/ — I see no reason why that wouldn't be a reasonable substitute. - I recently struck an unreferenced block quote from the article Týr (band) to avoid copyvio, then I searched for the origin of the quoted content, which appears to have originated from the 2004 interview linked above. The spam filter prevented me adding the reference to our article, however, as the metal-observer.com site appears to be blacklisted for some reason. I don't necessarily want to get into the ins and outs of why the site was blacklisted, but at least in this instance, I can find no indication that the quoted material originated from anywhere other than the interview linked above. - How is this page not excluded from the spam filter? And since it apparently is not excluded, how has anyone been able to use it? Wilhelm Meis (☎ Diskuss | ✍ Beiträge) 20:01, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- Pages can not be excluded from the spam blacklist, unfortunately. Hence that the edit-notice at the top of the edit page suggests that you post the link without the preceding 'http//' (I have updated the link, is clearer than maiming the link with dots or spaces, though that was fine as well). I hope this explains.
- Back in 2009 when this was blacklisted, it was mentioned that besides the plain spamming that occurred back then (multiple IPs), that the site had been discussed on our RSN board and deemed unreliable. That situation regarding reliability may have changed (as may the spam risk now be next to zero, three years after blacklisting), though you already say that you recently struck the block quote from the article .. do you now consider the quote worthy of inclusion? --Dirk Beetstra T C 03:58, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you, I was getting a little frustrated with the spam filter when it blocked me here too. I didn't see the part about the http, but thanks for pointing that out. Yes, I would consider the quote appropriate for inclusion, as it was Heri Joensen of Týr explaining the band's 'mission' in an interview. I think this is certainly appropriate to the band's article, but we can't just lift a block quote from an interview without citing the source. Since I don't know anything about TMO's original blacklisting, and I don't frequent their web site, I really couldn't say whether removing them from the blacklist would be a good idea or not, but I don't see how linking this article could hurt anything. I'd like to include the quote with a reference to the interview linked above. Thanks again for your help with this. Wilhelm Meis (☎ Diskuss | ✍ Beiträge) 04:15, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello
Fluoridealert.org website which is blacklisted has had a design change. due to that, few sourced links on WK Fluoride Action Network have become dead (FAN is Fluoridealert.org , and is properly linked in "External links"). I am asking for 3 links to be whitelisted within fluoridealert for the FAN WK article dead links :

- Well i was reading the Fluoride Action Network Wikipedia article, and was interested to see the cited sources. I was not aware it was such a felony on Wikipedia to remedy those links with short URLs to very plain and non controversial info, i mean the original sourced links were already there just were dead due to website design cange. Once one of the moderators has corrected me to come here (Whitelist page) - I came here. (i deed one more quick testing to see what is blocked which i immediately reverted myself). So please assume good faith :) Thanks109.64.13.85 (talk) 16:54, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

- A single whitelist entry like \bfluoridealert\.org/(?:about|researchers)[-\/a-z]*\b would probably catch all three of those links requested, although the 'about' page should be sufficient for that article.
- I don't see anything from fluoridealert.org in the whitelist already, so I'm wondering how the previous links existed. Perhaps grandfathered in from before the blacklisting. ~Amatulić (talk) 22:14, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

I can confirm fights from other sites such as Sherdog, but they do not establish his Gym or the date he won the welterweight title. These two articles support the details that are not in the other articles. Since Alaska is off the beaten path, national publications do to give a lot of space to it. In particular, I would like to use www.pv-magazine.com/news/details/beitrag/sonnedix-closes-90-million-financing-on-24-mw-french-pv-project_100008526/ and www.pv-magazine.com/news/details/beitrag/france--sonnedix-acquires-24-mw-stake-in-115-mw-pv-plant_100007667/ as references. Both are news stories including additional useful information and certainly not intend to be used for spamming and website promotion. As a wider issue with www.pv-magazine.com, I don't knew the exact reasons why this site was blacklisted. However, it industry-specific online publication and as such, an important source of information concerning different solar power projects. Maybe it would be possible to remove this site from the blacklist? Beagel (talk) 10:42, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

It appears that this link was blacklisted in March 2008 because someone spammed Wikipedia with their affiliate links in order to earn affiliate revenue. In subsequent years, this company has become notable, and aside from being mentioned in numerous reputable third party sources, has had a Wikipedia page for years (Fotolia) and this link should be added to the company infobox.

- We can't white list the root page on the domain because that would white list the entire site. We could white list a specific page like us.fotolia.com/Info/AboutUs if that would help. ~Amatulić (talk) 00:35, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- That sounds reasonable. However, I'd like to cite precedent. 100% of the other microstock company wikipedia articles all link to their root page. It seems odd that Fotolia would be the only one not to. Please take a look at the Wikipedia articles for iStockPhoto, Shutterstock, Dreamstime, 123RF.com (website), Bigstock, stock.xchng, Getty Images. Given that the link was originally blacklisted 4 years ago because of a random spammer's affiliate link, and since the link in this context meets the Wikipedia guidelines for official links, I think we should reconsider. Veryreal (talk) 01:40, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- The only precedent "is this case", and that multiple affiliates intentionally spammed Wikipedia and its other language projects. What does or does not exist in "other" articles is irrelevant, not valid grounds for de-listing, nor can you assure against future fotolia.com affiliate spamming. --Hu12 (talk) 23:04, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

website.ws
I've been creating an article for SamoaNIC to tie in with an existing article for the .ws ccTLD. In doing so I'm trying to reference an FAQ held on the root website.ws site but the blacklist is stopping me. The exact URL is http://www.website.ws/faq/; apparently "http://www.website.ws" triggers the protection filter when I hit Save.
Having searched the logs I can't find any note of why it's blocked, perhaps I'm not Doing It Right but the site in and of itself is harmless and shouldn't merit a block. Christopher (talk) 12:45, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

- It was blocked due to widespread abuse and affiliate spamming. What exactly will a Frequently asked questions attempt to verify? Please note note WP:NOTFAQ--Hu12 (talk) 15:26, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- The FAQ article I was attempting to link to was part of my effort to add a citation; the source article contained factual information about the establishment of the controlling organisation which I felt was worth referencing. It wasn't simply 'because it existed'. Christopher (talk) 15:13, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- In addition, from the Project Spam archive you linked to, I can only see five .ws domains listed. These could have just as easily have been .com or .co.uk domains -- as I wasn't involved with Project Spam I don't have much prior knowledge of patterns of malicious activity but ultimately .ws is just another domain extension. I do appreciate that they're perhaps favoured by a few spammers for greater availability of keywords, similar to .biz TLD, but as website.ws is the official registrar's domain it seems unfair to be blocking the entire TLD? - I have read /Common requests (but also note the several whitelisted suite101.com items at the top of the list)
Yes, this is a Suite101.com item, no longer on line, hence the archive.org URL. It is a review of Agnieszka's Dowry from 2001, and I wish to use it in that article's References section. The review, unsolicited, makes a number of technical points about the spartan and unobtrusive, as well as fast-loading, no-advertisement or flash-animation nature of the magazine's web incarnation (and mentions the print incarnation, as well), which remain unchanged in 2012. Full disclosure: I am the co-editor of Agnieszka's Dowry quoted in the review, and the author of our article. I half-expect this request to be swiftly denied on WP:COI grounds, but IMHO the review really does substantiate a number of points, and serves as a useful reference, if only simply by citing legacy net addresses for the magazine. I just thought of clicking on the link for the reviewer, something that has eluded me all these years, and it is reassuring to find out that she has been a practicing journalist: [http://web.archive.org/web/20030918165855/http://www.suite101.com/profile.cfm/Abraxis]. --Mareklug talk 07:47, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

I'd like to cite this page for a paragraph about animals being put down in zoos at the outbreak of WW2. The site seems to me to be a reliable source as it mostly presents a collection of transcribed newspaper articles, census records and directories.

The link at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Quinlan_%28wrestler%29#cite_ref-61 (at present) is to http://www.niuzer.com/New-York-City-NY/Interview-With-Tattooed-Model-Physique-Competitor-John-Quinlan-5531715.html , which is no longer available. From searches on Bing and Google, the only current source for that article seems to be the examiner.com repost cited in the Summary above. All other hits are to other examiner.com links for the same article, or to sites that cite an examiner.com link. I note that Google finds quite a number of the latter; various people do find the reposted article worth citing. My proposed cite seems, BtW, to be the shortest and most direct.
It seems to me that use of this examiner.com link, despite the commission payment you cite in the Common Requests (where examiner.com is listed only as "very often denied") is preferable to a "citation required" or "link expired" marking that has no likely other possibility of ever being corrected, or to deleting the sentence for which the source is cited.
It's a small point, but thank you for your consideration. I have no connection w/ Mr. Quinlan other than mild interest and SFAIK never heard of examiner.com until now. GeorgeTSLC (talk) 20:10, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

- I endorse this request. The "About" page was already whitelisted, see decision from admin in talk page, the RfC is archived over several pages: here, here and here. The content of the "About" page is the same, with only a few additions to reflect the last years. Just change ".com" to ".se", and it will work fine. --Enric Naval (talk) 12:35, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

I was unable to format this so as to fit in the left column where x-wiki links normally go. This, as well as a similar list for other local blacklists (on our blacklist's talk page) may be useful information. --A. B. (talk) 14:00, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Notice to everyone about our Reliable sources and External links noticeboards
- If you have a source in which you have a legitimate reason that it meets Wikipedia's guideline on reliability, feel free to bring the issue to the Reliable sources noticeboard.
- Likewise, if you have a source in which you have a legitimate reason that it meets Wikipedia's guideline on external links, feel free to bring the issue to the External links noticeboard.
If your whitelist request falls under one of these two categories, the admins will be more willing to have the source whitelisted if you can acheive consensus at one of the above noticeboards. Thanks! A Quest For Knowledge (talk)
