Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 98.127.168.159 (talk) at 05:11, 11 January 2010 (→‎Current requests for protection). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection, Unfortunately, there is a pair of confirming spoiler lists that give away the voting order; numerous IP and newer editors at attempting to add this at this time, which is not appropriate. Temporary semi-protection vandalism, IP editors are changing the date of birth again. As usual, there are absolutely no references to support the changes. The persistence of these people is inexplicable. Any normal vandal would have got bored with this months ago. Maybe a longer period of protection would help this time. The Jay Leno Show (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection, It was announced today that the show will be canceled in February; IPs have been adding an end date to the infobox against guidelines or vandalizing in general today and the days before (because of rumors). Andrewlp1991 (talk) 22:46, 10 January 2010 (UTC) PS: Please protect Jay Leno (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) as well, same reason. 2010 Africa Cup of Nations (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, An anonymous user (or users) has/have been adding external links to a suspicious - and possibly illegal - video-sharing site and discussion forum, in clear violation of WP:EL. Normally this would be dealt with by warnings and then a block, but it's happened (I think) 3 times from 3 different IP addresses, so warnings are useless. Given the nature of dynamic IP addresses (i.e. the user won't see any warnings because he'll have a different IP address next time he edits) and the questionable legality and cyber-safety of the external site involved, I believe protection until the tournament is over is the only effective way to deal with this. Xenon54 / talk / 22:28, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If I may suggest, I would bring the link to MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist to get the link blacklisted so it cannot appear on here anymore. Momo san Gespräch 22:33, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I had completely forgotten about the blacklist! That would probably be a better idea as there are positive IP contributions as well. Consider this request withdrawn, then. Xenon54 / talk / 22:45, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kingdom of Serbia (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.. Since it's your userspace, you can have the page semi'd indefinitely, if you'd like. I just put a week in there, because there was no desired time specification. Regards, JamieS93 23:33, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    The Rev (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary full protection vandalism, I suggest full-protection; at least for three days; to insure the safety of the article because there's numerous issues appearing on and off of it (usually reverted by me) from not just IP adresses, but registered users as well. GunMetal Angel 21:22, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Compromise of 1 week semi-protection to keep the vandalism off, but allow registered users to add to and maintain the article. If an edit war arises, ping back and I'll fully protect it. --Moni3 (talk) 02:11, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, most of last week many IPs have been screwing around with facts, including adding their own predictions for this year's super bowl matchup. And of course the usual immature vandalism. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 21:06, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Template:Editnotices/Page/User:Pianoplonkers/Steinway Model D-274 (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Unprotection, This page is my user-subpage and it would be handy to be able to edit it as I may need to edit it frequently. Pianoplonkers(talk) 17:47, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Already unprotected. The page has not been protected. You should be able to edit it. :) Icestorm815Talk 20:00, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is a template for a page notice, which can only be edited by administrators. I was wondering, as it is a user subpage, that I could have the right to edit it. Thanks--Pianoplonkers(talk) 20:09, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No. We can't unprotect the page for you, or assign the right to edit it without making you into an administrator or an Account creator (see Wikipedia:Editnotice#User_and_user_talk). I suggest you get the page deleted if you want to edit it. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:25, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Question: I'm not sure if that site is reliable, but how do we know it's the same person? The name given there and the one on his userpage are different. Per WP:PP and WP:DWG, the page is protected when the death is confirmed. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 08:05, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
See [2]. That's his user page on one of the wikis he used to edit according to his user page. I guess that's enough evidence. EDIT: Also, check this post from his brother:[3] - Master Bigode (Talk) (Contribs) 14:25, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done Not entirely sure, but protection is better than just ignoring it. I don't have a problem if another admin thinks it's inappropriate. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 15:08, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
