Bade Achhe Lagte Hain is an Indian television drama series that premiered on Sony Entertainment Television India on 30 May 2011.[5] It airs every Monday to Thursday at 10:30PM IST.[6][7]It also airs on Sony Entertainment Television Asia.[8] The initial concept of the show is based on the play Patrani, which was written by Imtiaz Patel.[9] The show is created by Ekta Kapoor, an Indian television and film producer and joint managing director of the Balaji Telefilms.[10]

The show explores the worlds of its main characters Priya Sharma and Ram Kapoor, who accidentally discover love after they get married.[5][11] The series is co-produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor and stars actors Sakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor as the protagonists. After the story moved five years ahead in June 2012, many new actors and characters, including Samir Kochhar as Rajat Kapur, and Amrita Mukherjee as Pihu Kapoor were introduced.[3]

The show became one of the most watched shows of 2011, helping propel the Sony Entertainment Television India network to number two in the rankings.[12][13] However, in early January 2013 the show's Television Rating Point (TRP) went down to 2.3.[13] Bade Achhe Lagte Hain telecasted its last episode (episode number 644) on 10 July 2014[14][15] and was replaced by Anurag Kashyap's mini series Yudh which stars actor Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role.[16][17]

Plot

Bade Achhe Lagte Hain is the story of a couple Ram Kapoor and Priya Sharma and their families. Ram Kapoor is a well reputed, rich and powerful businessman in his early 40s. The story begins when Ram's younger step sister Natasha and Priya's younger brother Kartik, who fall in love with each other. Kartik does not think he should marry before his older sister marries. To solve this problem, Ram agrees to marry Priya to allow Kartik and Natasha marry. Initially, Ram and Priya dislike each other but as time passes and they spend more time with one another and they begin to respect and love each other. However, their relationship remains difficult—every time Priya and Ram grow closer, problems arise and drive them apart. As the story progresses, several antagonists are introduced. Production

The programme was intended to run for 150 episodes but as its TRPs(Television Rating Program) and popularity [further explanation needed] increased the show went on.[18]

Shooting

Most of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain is shot in Mumbai. Fifteen episodes of the show (Episode 102-Episode 117) were filmed in Sydney, Australia in late 2011, the city was the honeymoon destination of Ram and Priya. The show had a partnership with Tourism Australia and received support from Destination New South Wales, Sony Entertainment Television India and Balaji Telefilms.[4]

During the summer of 2012, Ekta Kapoor introduced a five-year leap in the narrative.[19] After the leap, 36 episodes were shot in Dubai and thereafter continued in India.[18] Episodes 235 to 270 were filmed in Dubai in mid-2012 to show the leap.[20] The shooting in Dubai was in partnership with Binali Tourism LLC and Shreenathji Holidays. These episodes showed Priya living with her five year old daughter Peehu in the city until she has to return to Mumbai. The production team failed to obtain the correct permits to shoot in Dubai and had to briefly stop shooting until the paperwork was processed.[20][21][22][23] Some shooting was also done in Jaipur to show a six-month leap.[24]

Dubs and rebroadcasts

Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was dubbed in Telugu and broadcast-ed on Gemini TV. The first episode was broadcast on 9 April 2012 as Nuvvu Nachhavu, an afternoon soap opera.[25][26][27] The show ended its run on Gemini TV on 31 August 2012 after 205 episodes. Bade Achhe Lagte Hain has also been dubbed in Tamil and airs on Polimer TV. It began broadcasting on 10 December 2012 as Ullam Kollai Poguthada; some of the characters' names were changed.[28]
