Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by GXXF (talk | contribs) at 20:24, 14 December 2016 (Requesting full protection of User:Example. (TW)). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Temporary protection: Persistent vandalism. RSTech1 (talk) 16:34, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm tempted to extended confirmed protect this under the WP:ARBPIA remedy, but I'm not sure it's related enough to that. Any other admins have opinions on this? Ks0stm (TCGE) 18:59, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Given the disruption was only from anons, I'd settle for semi. But I play by different rules :) If I were to go by the auto-ECP stuff, I would say this marginally meets ARBPIA. Content directly related to the conflict appears to be contained within one section, and with limited prose. Digging through, I see good edits from users who aren't extended confirmed, but it seems disruption from unconfirmed users is ongoing, so I wouldn't oppose a more lengthy semi MusikAnimal talk 00:54, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Note that it was semi-protected by Ponyo for a day. After this semi-prtection expires, I would opt for a long-term semi (such as 6 months or a year) and see whether additional disruption arises.--Ymblanter (talk) 07:47, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. Extended confirmed protection will not help here. If you simply utilize the talk page to reach consensus, there is no need for protection, anyway. Please note edit warring is not acceptable, and we can't keep fully protecting the page because of it. Blocks may be in order if this behaviour continues MusikAnimal talk 18:11, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Dunkirk (2017 film)

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – There is currently an edit war raging over the film's country of origin, with anonymous editors consistently going against both consensus and cited references to change the country from the United States (where the production companies are located) to Britain (because the film covers an incident in British history). No amount of discussion (on the talk page and at WP:Film) have dissuaded them. Temporary protection until more information is available should help. Atrocities in the Congo Free State

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent, if low level, vandalism by IPs and new users since it became a GA in September. There is an additional problem that there seem to be very few other users "watching" this article - unsurprising considering how few active members there are of WP:CONGO. It means that the article quality could deteriorate very quickly if I were to take a wikibreak. Plus, I'm reluctant to open myself to charges of page ownership. —Brigade Piron (talk) 18:54, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! (UK series 16)

Unprotection: The show has now finished, and there is no more additions of unsourced content, so I don't really see a need for Pending Changes any more. . Class455 (talk) 11:00, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging MelanieN (who last protected it) and Vanamonde93 (who added auto-review permission) per above statement. Nordic Nightfury 15:33, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I added semi-protection which has expired. Vanamonde93 added PC protection which expires Jan. 31. If the current history suggests PC is no longer needed, I think it should be up to Vanamonde to make that call. --MelanieN (talk) 18:12, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Handled requests
