Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Bands and musicians

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by AllyD (talk | contribs) at 13:08, 6 April 2024 (Listing Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Bernhard_Beibl_(2nd_nomination) (assisted)). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Bands and musicians. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
1. Edit this page and add to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
2. You should also tag the AfD by adding to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
Note that there are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove links to other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Bands and musicians.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

A newly created band consisting of notable members fails to establish independent notability. I tried, but couldn't find significant coverage in third-party reliable sources. A Google News search yielded some sources, but they mostly consist of passing mentions or routine coverage. IMO, it fails to meet the criteria outlined in WP:NBAND and is a possible case of WP:NOTINHERITED. GSS💬 07:31, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Bands and musicians, Music, and United States of America. GSS💬 07:31, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Keep meets WP:BAND#C6, coverage in the Boston Globe and Phoenix New Times. Mach61 08:24, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt these sources discuss the band in detail; rather, they likely provide routine coverage. GSS💬 08:45, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GSS why are you writing this as if you haven't actually read the linked articles Mach61 17:36, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's your assumption; nothing else. Could you explain how the sources you mentioned above satisfy WP:INDEPTH? GSS💬 17:52, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GSS The New Times piece is over 1000 words long Tangential:INDEPTH links to WP:Notability (events), which is obviously not applicable in this case. Perhaps you caught a case of WP:UPPERCASE? Mach61 18:44, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
⁤I agree that the article is lengthy, but it seems to lack sufficient independent focus on the band itself. ⁤⁤Throughout this article, the band's name is mentioned only five times, excluding the title and image description, and often in passing. ⁤⁤It's quite normal to receive such attention in the media when the subject is linked to notable people. ⁤⁤However, as of now, since the band was formed, it hasn't achieved anything notable. ⁤⁤They have released a few single and only one album, and that too on a non-notable label. ⁤⁤While the band has garnered some attention because of its notable founding members, this doesn't establish independent notability. Therefore, I would say it's too soon for an independent article until the band becomes independently notable. GSS💬 04:36, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GSS Your statement that Throughout this article, the band's name is mentioned only five times, excluding the title and image description, and often in passing} is nonsensical, the term "passing mention" refers to coverage 1-2 sentences long in an article. Obviously, an article about the band is not a passing mention of them.
Your statement that the band hasn't "achieved" anything notable is just an opinion; I've already shown two sources covering them in detail Mach61 23:16, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Keep: Meets WP:NMUSIC#6 and #12 (featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live). I don't think the Boston Globe article meets SIGCOV because it only really states the band has formed and the members; the rest of it is about Barrett and the Bosstone's. However, the Phoenix New Times does meet SIGCOV with a nice overview of their debut album which in combination with the other criteria, gets it over the hump for me. Fails WP:SIGCOV and WP:NACTRESS. Article is cited excessively to self published and primary sources. Those few independent secondary references that are used only mention the subject in passing within cast lists and do not address the subject directly or in detail as required by GNG. No significant roles in television or film. No major theatre productions either. Seems to have worked only in minor regional theatre and touring productions. 4meter4 (talk) 01:22, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have carried out WP:BEFORE on this previously unfootnoted article about a musician and church leader, and added two reviews of one of his albums. I have not found other coverage to add. I am not sure if one of the publications, CCM Magazine, is a reliable source, as its About says "The information in the post above may have been formatted to suit this website, but is not necessarily material originally created by, or exclusive to CCMmagazine.com", and no author is given. In any case, based on two reviews I do not think that the subject of the article is notable under WP:GNG or WP:NMUSIC. Tacyarg (talk) 00:13, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fails WP:NMUSIC. Just because we have several articles about music produced by him does not make him notable, I find that he is not notable as a musician or a producer. Nagol0929 (talk) 15:59, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Comment: I haven't looked closely yet as to whether his article deserves to stay, but it seems to me a redirect to Souls of Mischief might be a better option than outright deletion... yes, I know he is part of Hieroglyphics (group) as well and therefore WP:XY may be considered here, but Hieroglyphics is all of Souls of Michief plus four other people, so he's still a part of Hieroglyphics as a member of Souls of Mischief. • Weak keep or merge to Souls of Mischief as he does have some individual reliable sources coverage such as an AllMusic staff bio here and a review of one of his 3 solo albums here, Atlantic306 (talk) 21:42, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bearian: AllMusic is a reliable source as per 1 and the bio and album review are not interviews as someone else claimed, Atlantic306 (talk) 22:54, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Atlantic306: the only problem is that AllMusic isn’t being used as a reference and all 3 of the references are interviews. Of those only 1 is about A-Plus. Nagol0929 (talk) 03:26, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Keep There's a ton of sourcing (yes, from reliable sources) available on this guy in Google News and Books searches, over a period of decades. It's true that most of them are brief mentions, but with all of the info available, surely the article could be built out and sourced better than it is now. I had to get a little creative in looking for sources since "A plus" is such a generic term, but combining his name with "Hieroglyphics" or "Souls of Mischief" yields many good results. • Delete - Note that the article had a two-paragraph biography until a couple of weeks ago, when an editor deleted it for being unsourced. From that old text we can see that this actor had some TV credits as a kid but has not acted since age 14 in 1990. I can find no significant coverage that covers his acting career in any encyclopedia way, and he can only be found in basic directory listings. After 1990 he was in some non-notable local bands and now works as a lesser-known studio producer, which in turn generated a self-promotion attempt in the old version of the article. None of this qualifies for Wikipedia. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 17:11, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Delete - This looks like an attempted self-promotion to drum up new business for a very non-notable music career. He has been a temporary or short-term member of a long series of local bands, only one of which is semi-notable enough to have a WP article (Plankeye, and even they are iffy), and filled in the gaps by working as a road tech and amateur photographer. This has generated some basic credits at directory services, which make up most of the article's attempted citations, but he's never been anywhere close to notability. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 17:21, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Comments - this theoretically could pass WP:MUSICBIO based on allegations that he marketed "Vans shoes and the now defunct company Rimshot Drumsticks," and with the band "Bonesaw completed an eight-country European tour...." • Comment. I looked through some articles and books. There's an article from what looks like a predatory academic journal where he's mentioned as "renowned" in passing, and a self-published book which calls him a "popular Afghan folk singer". "Representations of exile in Afghan oral poetry and songs" (Belgheis Alavi Jafari and Liza Schuster, 2019) seems reliable, and find him important enough to use an example, but he's only mentioned as a songwriter belonging to the Afghan diaspora, and quoted once. An article in the Swedish newspaper sv:Tranås-Posten calls him a "major" artist, but only in passing. I wouldn't be surprised if he's in many ways far more notable than some of the people we explicitly want articles about, but I haven't found any sources which can actually be used to build an article. /Julle (talk) 21:26, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Being a non-winning contestant on a reality TV series seems to be her main claim to fame, and her film and music careers haven't really taken off yet. WP:TOOSOON at best. by accredited I simply mean that she is known and recognized for her work. I do understand you consider nearly all above sources to be primary or 'passing mentions' however a strong argument could be made that the manila times article referencing VivaMax's success at 600K downloads and being #1 on the play store could be attributed to Ataska's success in her career, thus establishing notability. Doesn't seem to meet WP:MUSICBIO / WP:GNG independent of the band, NMB48. A merge could overwhelm that article, particularly as this is an unreferenced BLP I don't think any of it should be copied over, though a redirect is a possible WP:ATD. Boleyn (talk) 06:29, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Comment. Normally an unreferenced BLP (biography of a living person) would be grounds enough for deletion per WP:BLPPROD, but it looks like this article escaped deletion due to the corresponding article on Japanese Wikipedia, which cites many sources. Perhaps a compromise would be to redirect to the band NMB48 if no citations are added. It could always be re-created as an article if/when an editor gets around to adding citations and possibly expanding it with more meaningful biographical information. Notability is WP:BLP1E only. Other coverage is WP:ROUTINE. TarnishedPathtalk 01:51, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Bands and musicians and California. TarnishedPathtalk 01:51, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Delete per nom. This real estate is sitting on the WP:COAT of its owners. On its own, despite its architect, the subject fails WP:GNG because it has nothing notable to it other than its current owners. Its title itself is a serious BLP privacy concern (not rectifiable by normal editing without oversight). It would even be a BLP problem for subsequent non-notable owners (and I mean: *totally private* people with their home address as a Wikipedia title). JFHJr () 02:21, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PS. And WP:NOTNEWS. Point back to the fact that this subject has zero sustained coverage over its existence. JFHJr () 02:29, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Keep, looks like a solid GNG pass, not really sure what these other two are talking about (for example none of the coverage seems to fall under WP:ROUTINE and BLP1E is part of Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons... and the subject here is one of the most expensive houses in the world not a person). Will expand from coverage not currently in article. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 02:35, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Horse Eye's Back, it seems to me that all the coverage that is not WP:ROUTINE concerns the sale of the property to Beyoncé and Jay-Z for $200 million, making this WP:BLP1E. An article doesn't have to be a WP:BLP itself to have BLP content in it. TarnishedPathtalk 02:44, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The topic of this article is not the sale (an event), this article is about the house. BLP1E does not apply to objects. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 02:46, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The sale (an event) is the only notability the article has. Remove the sale and there would be no article. This article is about two BLP's house. Therefore BLP1E applies. TarnishedPathtalk 02:50, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me if I don't accept that extremely flimsy logic. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 02:54, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That... isn't what BLP1E is for. It simply doesn't apply to articles that aren't themselves BLPs. (Agree that this probably shouldn't have an article but BLP1E is not the reason why). Elli (talk | contribs) 03:50, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is incorrect to say BLP1E isn't applicable to a building. Everything here, including talk pages, is subject to WP:BLP and its collateral policies, especially when it's under a notability question. I'll also note the event is not just the purchase, but amounts to mere ownership, and "events" may last a long time. That's the point of seeking enduring notability in the real estate itself and not the owner, or even the sale, in terms of a standalone article. JFHJr () 01:13, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:BLP applies everywhere, but the effect of WP:BLP1E is only on biographical articles of low profile individuals. The text of that section explicitly cautions so: WP:BLP1E should be applied only to biographies of living people, or those who have recently died, and to biographies of low-profile individuals. I note that we do, however, reach essentially the same outcome around enduring notability; I via WP:N. Rotary Engine talk 01:49, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Keep but move to ‘Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s California house’ The house is notable- is has a notable architect and broke the record for its sale price, but is currently titled with the buildings address. WP:BLPPRIVACY says “articles should not include postal addresses” and “If you see personal information such as phone numbers, addresses, account numbers, etc. in a BLP or anywhere on Wikipedia, edit the page to remove it”. In fact, I’ll move the page right now, so this might disrupt this AfD listing.TheSpacebook (talk) 02:40, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You'd need WP:OVERSIGHT with a page move, right? Can't have the address in the title history. May as well WP:BLOWITUP *if* the subject (the real estate) is independently notable. Meh? JFHJr () 02:46, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PS. Notable persons's belonging: WP:INHERIT takes a lot. I don't think this wins. But maybe it might. We shall see. Thanks as always, and cheers. JFHJr () 02:48, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And I struck your move proposal since you went ahead and did that during AfD. Usually, it's best to be patient enough for an outcome. JFHJr () 03:24, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And now I've un-struck your move comment, since someone stepped in and undid your mid-discussion page move. Let's be patient and wait for this to reach a consensus. If it helps not to watch, don't watch! JFHJr () 22:45, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Merge without redirect of the original title to Beyoncé or Jay-Z, whichever can be determined to have a more encyclopedic connection with the property. The house is not notable because $200 million was paid for it; it is noteworthy that these people bought a house for that much, but this would have been true no matter which house they paid that amount for. It is one of countless high-priced houses owned by wealthy entertainers, designed by an architect who designs high-end houses. Most of these sales get some kind of coverage in the trade papers, and some make it into more general papers due to interest in the celebrity, not the house. None of these things make it independently notable. BD2412 T 03:06, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What happens to this (moved) name space, and the previous name space with the address? Shall we delete them both? Due to the page move during AfD discussion, there are now two unneeded name spaces, IMO. JFHJr () 03:31, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We have the tools to remove privacy-invading content from article/redirect histories. BD2412 T 12:15, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Merge with redirect from original title only to Tadao Ando. The new title is pure gossip journalism and inadmissable under BLP as a privacy violation. The house is marginally notable on grounds of the high price (additional coverage that wasn't there when I looked at the article and went searching: Architectural Digest, SFGate); the high price is in part due to the architect, and there is some coverage of the original owners' use of it to display their art collection, e.g. this spat over a large outside sculpture, Malibu Times. It can be a referenced line in the list of his works, to which "27712 Pacific Coast Highway" is a reasonable redirect, and there is no reason under BLP to expunge the history providing the one line does not name the current owners. Yngvadottir (talk) 03:30, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Failing a delete, I think this is the best target page for a redirect proposal. Thanks, Yngvadottir! JFHJr () 03:33, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, JFHJr. I found it listed at Tadao Ando#Projects, unlinked it, ref'd it, named it for the clients and moved it to a different year based on one of those sources. (Most press coverage of the sale appears to go back to a TMZ report and judging by widespread omission, that didn't give the completion year. I haven't hunted for it.) I note that there's another Malibu house with a star purchaser already listed, also unlinked and listed by the commissioning owner. Yngvadottir (talk) 08:54, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Note: This discussion has been included in the list of Architecture-related deletion discussions. WCQuidditch 04:12, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Merge to Tadao Ando as one of his noteworthy accomplishments. Most of the participants in this debate have made valid points, but I find WP:NOTNEWS and WP:ONEEVENT to be the most relevant policies here. The recent sale indeed made the news, though that "news" doesn't get too far beyond standard celebrity gossip. It could be argued that the record price is an achievement for the architect rather than the buyers. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:40, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean the seller not the architect? The property was primarily valued at the astronomical sum because of its location not its architect, note that the previous most expensive property sold in California was the one *next door* which was not an Ando. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 21:13, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So what? Merge anyway because the house under discussion is not notable for all the reasons stated by everyone. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 15:51, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Noting that WP:ONEEVENT & WP:BLP1E apply to people, not properties. Rotary Engine talk 04:46, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Make sure you know who you're responding to and when. I did not cite WP:BLP1E myself. When I cited WP:ONEEVENT yesterday, the article was called "Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s California house" and it was full of text about those two celebrities, so both of those policies are/were relevant anyway. Meanwhile, moving the article's title in the middle of a deletion discussion sure doesn't help much. You guys figure it out. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 15:49, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand, how would either the title or the content make WP:ONEEVENT relevant? ONEEVENT is about "People notable for only one event" and neither of the celebrities mentioned fall into that category. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 15:53, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why the principal undergirding WP:ONEEVENT would not apply to a building that was only covered in the media in connection with a single event. An example would be Francklyn Cottage (where President James A. Garfield died, having been taken there in hopes of recovery from a gunshot would). BD2412 T 23:49, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If, in independent, reliable sources, there is sufficient depth of documentation of Francklyn Cottage to satisfy WP:GNG, why should an article not be written on it? Similar to Garfield Tea House; presumably also only noted because of its link to Garfield's death. Rotary Engine talk 01:55, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Merge with redirect from original title only to Tadao Ando; per Yngvadottir et al. Mention the record setting purchase at Beyoncé &/or Jay-Z; likely without the address. At best, barely borderline notable as a separate topic - there is an absence of independent, reliable, secondary sourcing providing in-depth documentation of the subject. Certainly, however, noteworthy in the articles mentioned. Rotary Engine talk 10:50, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For clarity, I am also comfortable with a merge without redirect. I am not comfortable with a redirect from "Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s California house". Rotary Engine talk 23:13, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Add: Fails WP:NBUILD which requires significant in-depth coverage by reliable, third-party sources to establish notability. Rotary Engine talk 07:09, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• information Administrator note Per the various concerns expressed here I have restored the page to its original title. Primefac (talk) 13:50, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. JFHJr () 00:08, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Delete an ATD is fine, but the house's notability is essentially inherited and fails GNG on its own. SportingFlyer T·C 16:06, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. It's only noteworthy at most, with the WP:WEIGHT of a short mention in the owner/s article/s and/or the architect's article. I'm not seeing a compelling reason for a redirect but realize others here want that. JFHJr () 22:52, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Comment. Many thanks to Primefac for reverting the article move and deleting the ill-advised title. I see the text has at some point been revised so that the intro is all about the current owners. Since I strongly disagree that their names are the basis for its notability and I'm advocating merge without history deletion, if nobody else does, I'm going to rewrite the article, returning it to its original focus on the record sale price and the architecture. Yngvadottir (talk) 21:03, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Merge to Tadao Ando per those above. The current title (the home's street address) is more a BLP violation than titling it by its current occupants. Do any of the sources actually give the exact address? It looks like they're just saying "a home on the Pacific Coast Highway". If the structure doesn't have its own name then titling it by its notable residents seems entirely reasonable, and preferable to giving the exact location of a private residence as a title. But I agree that the recent coverage is not about the home but about who purchased it, and while we do usually keep information about record-setting things, I don't think "most expensive real estate" is really a valid record in this economy, and there's very little written about this from an architectural perspective. It amounts to celebrity gossip. On the other hand we have two articles about Taylor Swift's houses, so maybe it's valid, but it should be at a different title. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:55, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Just a thought, but if we were looking for a BLP-free title, something like 2014 Tadao Ando Pacific Coast Highway house would do it. BD2412 T 12:12, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm reading a potential consensus for a Merge to Tadao Ando, so another rename might not be necessary if said merge is carried out in a timely manner after close. TarnishedPathtalk 13:30, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A hip-hop musician and writer, admittedly his album was released a long time ago in internet terms, in 2004, but the most I can do is find proof on Discogs that it existed. There are a couple of online articles written by Noble, and a couple of brief mentions in a university radio article and the Seattle Times. His candidature in California politics is confusing, and only cited to a Green Party application. Overall this is more like a resumé and not suitable for Wikipedia, fails WP:GNG. Sionk (talk) 23:57, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep or Merge. I agree that neither of those are significant coverage, and the article is written like a resume, but that doesn’t justify deletion (it is possible, though, to cut down some of the text). There’s a book covering him here and an interview here.
The book coverage is probably not enough to float an article on its own, though, but there might be another source I haven’t found immidiately. Mrfoogles (talk) 02:22, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That said, I just added the book I found to the Hip Hop Congress article. There might not be that much to merge. Changing my stance to Neutral, unless anyone can find more sources (which I'm not sure don't exist). Mrfoogles (talk) 03:14, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Looking at the previous article, the majority of it was copy-pasted from his Green Party shadow cabinet biography here. I replaced that with the stuff I could cite. I don't know what's in the Lyrical Swords coverage and I can't find the mention of him in the Economic Migrants coverage, but from the sources I can see so far I think probably his article would be merged into Hip Hop Congress (co-founder) and possibly 2012 Republican National Convention (decent bit of coverage that's interviewing him participating in protests against it). Not yet notable per WP:BAND. The only secondary coverage I can find of them in reliable sources is the Under The Radar album review already cited here, and this album review in the Jackson Free Press. They were the local warmup band for two notable bands in their home town in 2009, but on Wikipedia notability is not inherited. I can find no evidence of national rotation, or significant awards. Created by SPAs and speedy deleted three times 2008-10, but for some reason not the fourth SPA in 2010. Wikishovel (talk) 18:39, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Delete per WP:GARAGEBAND and some obvious COI, combined with being unable to find any mention online. BrigadierG (talk) 18:44, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Agree with Wikishovel's points above re notability on a national scale, although band was clearly more than a WP GARAGEBAND. Not sure about COI w/out specificity. I have been doing research to update the page, but while the arc of the band progressed and a second CD/LP was released, part of page update was to note that the band is no longer active. I have not completed research, but high value citations thus far have been challenging. Part of what what was notable about the band was their age when they began. I looked at the wikipedia page for "List of Musicians from Mississippi" and wonder if there is some other way to categorize this band such that they are attached to Mississippi list? As example, I saw a band called Beanland on the list that seems to have a similar arc to that of The Da Vincis.
Updating the page has not been a priority, however, i wonder if there is any value to me attempting a page update over the next week (or not if I can't find better sources) and then revisit/re-discuss the deletion? I want to neither keep the page unnecessarily nor delete it unnecessarily. As a Wikipedia novice, I don't want to waste my time (or anyone else's) if deletion is a fait accompli. Gradock (talk) 20:09, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gradock hey, great You came! Don't be discouraged! The AfD is not a court martial or anything like that, and if you read WP:ATD You'll see that more often than not articles listed here get shored up to the point where they are kept. Don't be discouraged. If you have good references and links that show the band is notable, by all means include them, provide them, show them! We are all open minds here and working on this neverending project to collect all human knowledge. It's good that you're here. Cheers, Ouro (blah blah) 21:02, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seconding the above. You have my word that if you're able to uncover good quality sources such as in-depth magazine coverage I'm not aware of, I will change my vote. Contributing positive material to Wikipedia should always be welcomed, don't take my delete vote as a vote against the band or any authors of the page. Thx @brigadierG @ouro @wikishovel. Any thoughts on the "List of Musicians from Mississippi" question. Or more specifically, is there some other place/category within wikipedia where those interested in the band might be better served? Gradock (talk) 19:05, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Probably not. If it's not relevant for an article, it's not allowed to be included in those lists. Please see WP:CSC, WP:GARAGEBAND, WP:NOTDIRECTORY BrigadierG (talk) 19:07, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Gradock: just edit the article, then come back here to say that you've done it and let the discussion roll on. --Ouro (blah blah) 20:22, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ok, gonna let'er rip. Gradock (talk) 20:30, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can see current data that demonstrates both current global listenership, and historical listenership through soundcharts.com by signing up for their fremium subscription. However, greater historical detail requires a paid subscription. So the validation is there, but behind a login at minimum. Not a very friendly (if even acceptable) citiation. One problem in research is that band has been inactive since 2017 and was most active 2009-2012, so some of original citations have gone stale. Especially related to airplay and are not searchable in Wayback Machine. Gradock (talk) 20:29, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@brigadierG @ouro @wikishovel et al, i have done an extensive re-work and in the process got a depracated source flag. not sure which one that is but suspect #12/Last.fm perhaps becuase it is some sort of social media site. If so, I can replace with a better reference i think. still don't know if it meets (or now after research how indie bands ever meet) whatever the wikipedia notability bar is. That said, if as revised, it does not pass muster then delete it. Lastly, if this is deleted, is it archived somewhere in the event additional info could resurrect it? More notable than a garage band less notable than the Rolling Stones. Gradock (talk) 01:50, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Gradock: Oh, the article looks much cooler now. I don't know whether it will pass but it's great you added sourcing. The prose is also nice, looks balanced. Fingers crossed. I'm definiely in favour of keeping it. Ps. If you want the ping to work, You need to use double square parentheses and and link the user name exactly as it is used, including capitalisation, e. g. for me it would be @User:Ouro. --Ouro (blah blah) 07:07, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@User:wikishovel @User:BrigadierG @Ouro I did not know Bandcamp was a user generated product and considered an unreliable source. That said, it was used primarily to validate Band existence/release dates. Also found the quote by noteable journalist Sandra Zettpunkt on one of the BandCamp pages, which would not have been posted by anyone associated with the band. I am not a music person, so Bandcamp is just another source for me. The fact that there is actual music you can sample on the site would seem to balance some of the "reliablity" issues. I am a new wikipedia editor and discoverd the Da Vincis page whilst building another page. I am undertaking the updating/revisions more to sharpen my chops/Learn than any other reason. Given the my time/energy/effort expended, I have a greater appreciation for the struggles of indie bands like The Da Vincis in frankly just surviving, in good faith I come back to @wikishovel's "Not yet notable per WP:BAND" criteria. Doesn't meet WP:MUSICBIO. Has worked with many notable musicians, and his name appears in the credits for many songs as writer, producer and musician, but I can't find significant coverage of him in reliable secondary sources. The best I managed was the short 1986 Billboard reference I've added, which describes him as a "veteran producer", and his plans for new releases. For the rest of the vague claims here, about him helping to originate the "Miami sound" (editors searching for that, please exclude the word "Machine" from the search, as he wasn't involved with Miami Sound Machine), or about being invited to join Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, awards, inductions into halls of fame, etc., I've found nothing. There are a handful of passing mentions of Martinez in RS, and judging by his career he is someone who should have an article but the lack of dedicated sources to him makes me dubious. What ultimately has pushed me over the line is this dedicated (though short) entry to Martinez in a book. I am unfamiliar with It's Psychedelic Baby! Magazine and Australian Musician, but the Wikipedia articles on these publications indicate a level of credibility. The BBC link in the 'External sources' section of the article is in archive.org, but it is too short to be useful.[19] Verbcatcher (talk) 00:17, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please see the first nomination and the version kept after the first nomination. Several sources have been removed from the article since then, and I have found three of them in archive.org:
This is sufficient for me to upgrade by opinion from 'weak keep' to 'keep'. Verbcatcher (talk) 00:40, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the links Verbcatcher. Can I please point out that a majority of these links are profiles which the artist themselves uploads info on. These are not independent articles. For instance the ABC (Australia) link is a Triple J site where local musicians can create their own profile and upload their own bio, photos and 2x songs. This is the same with CD Baby, which is a platform you upload your own music onto, again writing your own bio.
The Bluescat review seems very obscure. The review is amongst dozens of other albums listed and doesn't seem to make sense, maybe it is a translated review?
The Australian Musician review describes a small outback pub performance in Australia and the Australian musician articles seem to mostly list actual well known people this artist has met or paid to meet. V260z (talk) 11:28, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Keep the artist has released at least two albums, has been a member of notable bands, has toured both Australia and other nations. I've added some content and refs (some mentioned above) as well as his AllMusic entry (from ELs). Passes WP:MUSICBIO.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:41, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These citations you've added most have nothing to do with the subject.
Examples:
Reference 1: Does not even load a page. This has been used to reference his birthplace and date.
Reference 2: Displays 1 sentence from an Australian rural news site and states a time and place the artist is performing for one concert in 2007. This has been used to reference his birth place and date in the article?
Reference 3: Is actually 2x references and is an unrelated Swedish Casino site. This has been used to cite other artists the subject has allegedly performed with.
Reference 5: Is an article about Fleetwood Mac. It is used to cite the subject almost joined Fleetwood Mac, yet no such occurrence is mentioned in the article.
A majority of these other added references are simply a listing of one of his albums and a track list.
Notability criteria requirements:
1. Appears in non trivial published works which are reliable. Not including press releases or articles in which the subject talks about themselves. (for example reference 4) The referenced articles that are not casino sites or self published are interviews of the subject talking about themselves.
• Your analysis here is faulty. Two of the AllMusic refs describe the artist and reveiw an album. Neither are interviews or casino sites.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 10:00, 22 March 2024 (UTC)10:01, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
2. Had a single or album in the charts of any country. No charting single or album cited.
3. Had a gold record in at least one country. No citation of a gold record award. Not listed on RIAA website.
4. Has received non trivial coverage of at least one international concert tour. No independent coverage of a major international tour.
5. Released 2x records on a major record label. You mentioned this, but none of those albums were released through Warner, Universal, Sony or any majors. No, they are not signed to any major or significant label. They are self published works.
6. This doesn't apply to the subject as he is a solo artist.
7. Has become one of the most prominent representatives of a notable style or the most prominent of the local scene of a city. Seems to be a nomad, not part of any "particular city's scene"
8. Has won a Grammy award or similar. Not listed on Grammy nominations website.
9. Has won first, second, or third place in a MAJOR music competition. No, haven't seen any awards.
10.Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, such as a theme for a network television show. No, haven't seen cited work used in media.
11. Has been placed in rotation nationally by a major radio or music television network. No evidence of radio airplay. - No, haven't seen evidence of radio play.
12. Has been a featured subject of a substantial broadcast segment across a national radio or television network. - No, haven't seen any Television segments. V260z (talk) 02:06, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I dispute your analysis of some refs.
1. Loads fine for me. AGF?
2. One sentence? Whole article is on the subject. Rural news site? As part of Fairfax Media it was accessible Australia-wide.
3. Swedish casino site? You're probably looking at its original url, which had been hi-jacked long ago. Archived url should take you to database site. This confirms membership of Swanee and Stevie Wright Band.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:01, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's far from the worst article I've seen, and I wouldn't be shocked if there were a couple pre-internet news articles somewhere that could let it scrape by, but what we have, and what I can find, are short of independent coverage that would be needed for an article. I have doubts that Australian Musician has sufficient fact checking expertise to warrant consideration as a reliable source, and the best of the rest of the sources are just interviews or brief concert promos or reviews. This article about Vinheteiro fails to meet WP:NMUSIC.

Details about Vinheteiro in the article are not cited in accordance with source, which makes it seem to have reach the requirement of WP:NMUSIC e.g. the article stated that Vinheteiro participated in Brazilian programs such as Jornal Nacional (seems to meet criteria 12), while the source 'Jornal Nacional' was about his video of playing of JN's theme song went viral. e.g. the article stated that Vinheteiro performed in China with local musicians (seems to meet criteria 4), yet the source was about his videos' popularity on Chinese online video platform, Bilibili, where he launched online music courses.

If the article is considered as Wikipedia:WikiProject YouTube/Notability rather than WP:NMUSIC, I doubt its sources are significant enough to meet WP:GNG. --EleniXDDTalk 07:53, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Despite its restoration, the article fails to address the issues that prompted its removal in July 2023, particularly regarding WP:GNG and WP:NACTOR. • Comment - Given that she received an in-depth profile in Aneka magazine (well, based on the amount of information, three or four pages - the maximum to expect from such magazines in the 1950s) it is likely that contemporary magazines gave her coverage as well. Unfortunately, most such magazines have not been made available digitally. Also, there was another actress billed simply as "Zainab" active in Indonesia in the 1950s (born in 1933, rather than 1935, and appearing in films such as Tiga Dara; source: Biran, Apa dan Siapa Film Indonesia, 1979), and so finding sources online would be difficult.

According to WP:NACTOR, an individual may be deemed notable if they have played significant roles in numerous noteworthy films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions. However, this doesn't apply to this person and the other "Zainab," as they are credited as uncredited in both films they appear in. Ckfasdf (talk) 23:31, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Never said that she met NACTOR; indeed, as you point out, she did not play significant roles in these films (I'm unfamiliar with Singaporean cinema, and can't speak to the significance or noteworthiness of the films themselves). Starting a formal AfD as an editor objects to this article being a redirect. This group's claim to fame is their Eurovision Song Contest 2016 appearance, and all references included in the article and through an internet search appear to pertain to that appearance. Per WP:ONEEVENT, I propose a redirect to Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, which is a good article and includes all notable endeavors by this group in greater detail and with additional context. Grk1011 (talk) 14:58, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just want to re-emphasize the WP:1E aspect of this since folks keep bringing up WP:MN, for which criterion #10 states that if the notable endeavor is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article. Additionally #12 states that the subject has to be the featured subject, which I take to mean not just a participant in the event. As an internal selection candidate from Greece, they weren't even winners or featured subjects of a national selection event. No information at all is lost by a redirect. Grk1011 (talk) 12:46, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's a notable endeavor, but it appears it's the only notable thing they've done. Prior to ESC, they were not really known, even in Greece, and they haven't released any noteworthy material after Eurovision either. As this whole article is about them in relation to Eurovision, the redirect seems natural. This is not a request for deletion. Grk1011 (talk) 13:45, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Staying by my Keep rationale. If we follow Wikipedia guidelines, this group is notable.BabbaQ (talk) 07:09, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Yes, but as I've already explained above, guidelines state that they should be notable for more than one event, otherwise the redirect is more appropriate. Grk1011 (talk) 14:24, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Reiterating my support for a redirect; Grk1011 is right to point out that WP:1E has a very big part in this AfD process which I believe the majority of responses above have failed to take into account. WP:MUSICBIO point 10, which has been outlined above, in fact explicitly points to 1E and suggests that a redirect may be more appropriate. As for point 12 of MUSICBIO, I'm not sure I see how being one participant in a contest with over 40 other participants counts as being a "featured subject", especially when the group were chosen internally by the Greek broadcaster and were therefore not part of a "substantial broadcast segment", such as a national selection show. Regarding Eurovision participation being seen as notable in itself, there are several other previous Eurovision participants whose articles are either redirects or do not exist for the very simple fact that Eurovision was their only notable achievement, hence falling down on 1E. There's nothing within this article that isn't already expressly presented within Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, which is a much better article to cover all aspects of the group's participation in the only event in which they are anyway notable. • I feel like a broken record, but as has been pointed out, this isn't a matter of whether they are notable, but whether they meet 1E (notable for more than one event). Guidelines are clear that articles for subjects that are notable for only one event should be redirected to that event where their activity is described in much more detail. I fail to grasp what a standalone page that just says "they took part in Eurovision" and not much else accomplishes. Grk1011 (talk) 15:26, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Keep per BabbaQ. Meets NMUSIC points 10 and 12. Note past precedent from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sestre (drag act), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sarah Bonnici and no consensus close on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Max Jason Mai all with Delete voters citing BLP1E in the context of Eurovision. On a non-deletion argument related note, I'm incredibly skeptical of the idea of "merge info to Eurovision page" given the mass redirection of Eurovision artists to these pages resulted in... a failure to do exactly that, like with S!sters being redirected (without consensus) and no new info being added to Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, resulting in the page not even containing the names of the artists in the group. Sigh. Anyway, I vote keep. ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 13:38, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding your point around a failure to merge information previously, in the case of this article almost the entire contents of the article is already contained within Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, so any merging that would need to happen is ridiculously miniscule. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 17:38, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the reassurance on this (though I still fall into the Keep camp), just had to express my frustration at this being an ongoing trend with Eurovision pages. ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 20:49, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for missing that during the redirect of Sisters, but in my defense, it was because the group members were only in the infobox and not in the written parts; everything written was already in the target article. I also want to respond to your mentioning of those other AfD discussions, and I believe individual biography articles are a bit different than a short-lived musical group, so there are some nuances to this nomination. • Merge I believe it should be merged, though it absolutely should be followed to make sure that it is actually merged and not just forgotten like mentioned above about S!sters.Ktkvtsh (talk) 19:36, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Redirect per nom. WP:NMUSIC explicitly states that meeting any of these criteria does not mean that an article must be kept, and it is unhelpful to readers to have a standalone page that can't be expanded past a stub. Mach61 18:18, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Redirect to Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. The article doesn't provide any new material that is not already present in the Greece 2016 article. EurovisionLibrarian (talk) 19:18, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Weak keep – Even with a quick search for the band's work prior to Eurovision, they did release music for 15 years prior to their Eurovision participation. There is clearly some substance in having a separate article beyond their participation — IмSтevan talk 17:34, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
