Miss Israel
Miss Israel (Hebrew: מלכת היופי Malkat Hayofi "Beauty Queen") is an annual beauty pageant for unmarried women in Israel since 1950. Held by women's weekly magazine La'Isha, since its start[1], winners compete in international beauty pageant Miss Universe. Since 1993, Miss Israel is broadcast live on Channel 2. The winner wins a new car and a modeling contract with Israeli modeling agency Look.
History
Until 1994, there were no semi-finalists. There was a queen, the winner, runners-up and city and regional queens.[2]
In the first years of the pageant, contestants were allowed to compete more than once.[2] Also, married women were allowed to compete, but if they won they could not represent Israel in international pageants. The very first Miss Israel was married with a baby.[2]
Other beauty contents exist. The second contest, which began in 1960, is called "Na'arat Israel" and the winner goes on to compete in Miss World. The third contest started in 1963, and is called "Malkat Hachen" and whose winner competes in Miss International .
List
Many contestants Hebraized their surnames before the contest into more Israeli names. The original names appear in parentheses.[2] Some of the international representatives preferred to use their original names in the International contests.[2]
