Twinkle

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you've been tagging a bunch of pages with PROD and speedy deletion tags. This is definitely useful work and I haven't seen any egregious mistakes. However, you should always check before speedying an article under the A7 criteria (no credible assertion of notability for person, corp, etc). For instance Mark Stevenson turned out to be notable if you had but done a simply google search. Anyway, if you want to make your life easier, you should start using twinkle which will automatically notify authors when their pages are nominated for various types of deletion. Welcome to wikipedia! Sailsbystars (talk) 00:22, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I did a quick google search - though the name appeared to be too ambiguous to produce any relevant results. -Cntras (talk) 00:27, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dario Ortiz

[edit]

Hi Cntras,

I noticed your speedy delete on Dario Ortiz. I did a quick google on the original text and couldn't find it - however, you might have have discovered something that I didn't, and if the article is copyright then obviously it, or vio parts of it, has to go. He does appear notable, however. Acabashi (talk) 14:16, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The original article was a copyvio of an art website (I can't seem to find the link). The second incarnation however, is fine. -Cntras (talk) 23:44, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator intervention against vandalism

[edit]

Thank you for your report at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism about User:Fiercecom. I have indefinitely blocked the user and deleted the spam user page. However, for future reference in any similar case, rather than edit-warring with the user by continually blanking the user page, it is better to tag it for speedy deletion with {{db-spam}}. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:14, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Noted, though I think that it would make much difference. -Cntras (talk) 11:19, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol

[edit]

Hi Cntras. Please see User_talk:REEONE123. Two minutes after creating their article you tagged it for deletion and left some unfrinedly templates on their page. You gave them no space to work on the page, improve it and no friendly advice or helpful support. Not surprising they immediately ceased and have not edited since. This is as WP:BITEy as it gets. Please think about this and work up from the bottom of the new page feed and not the top to avoid scaring away the noobes. Spartaz Humbug! 11:24, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't consider it to be 'bitey' at all. The welcome message + in depth (albeit automated) message regarding the rationale for the CSD is more than sufficient. -Cntras (talk) 11:27, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The fact of nominating the article for deletion 2 minutes after creation is bitey. I'm deletionist but I can't see the sense of that. Give them a half hour or so at least to see if the page gets further improved before you scare them away. There is no competition to delete pages as quickly as possible. Work from the bottom and work up is much better. Spartaz Humbug! 11:39, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:NPP#Be_nice_to_the_Newbies addresses this. Spartaz Humbug! 11:40, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the {{holdon}} procedure is there for a reason. It's not the end of the world, most articles take anywhere from 30min to an hour to be deleted. If a user is 'scared' and gives up so easily, it makes me wonder why they bothered in the first place. -Cntras (talk) 12:11, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And we have so many new editors joining that we can afford to scare away the ones who don't get it right first time??? Look the instructions are clear - I really don't understand why you are being so stubborn about this. The fact of the tag is enough. Think about it. You submit a new page and someone immediately tells you its not good enough and will be deleted. Is that really the impression we want to make on new users? Spartaz Humbug! 12:18, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry for having expectations about the quality of the content on Wikipedia. For the sake of good etiquette, I will allow junk articles that will eventually be deleted anyways to pass. Just so that the new users will feel included in this online-editing fellowship. We must nurture their redundancy.-Cntras (talk) 12:30, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Don't be silly, of course we delete the dross - I'm just asking you to follow the guidelines and wait a few minutes before tagging. Is that so awful? Spartaz Humbug! 12:45, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Delusional Downtown Divas

[edit]

Hi Cntras. Just letting you know, as reviewing admin I declined your suggestion of speedy-deleting this article. From what I can tell from a quick Google News archive search, the show appears to meet our notability guidelines. Thanks, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:37, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Mexican Nationalist Army

[edit]

Hello Cntras. I am just letting you know that I deleted Mexican Nationalist Army, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 02:10, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Anatolia orlando

Hello Cntras. I am just letting you know that I deleted Anatolia orlando, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 02:12, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's not unusual for articles to fall under multiple CSD categories. Both tags are accurate. -Cntras (talk) 02:13, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I had initially deleted the above article, but following a request from the creator, I have looked at it again, and undeleted it.

The article at NY Times would appear to give enough to prevent it being speedily deleted. If you still feel that it is not suitable for inclusion, you will need to take it to Articles for deletion for a discussion.

Rollback

[edit]

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback correctly, and for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks.  —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 13:03, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Dabomb87 (talk) 16:31, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

About CouponSmarter

[edit]

Hi, Cntras, I just saw you placed an advert on my article CouponSmarter, actually it was created one year ago and recently it was updated by administrator NawlinWiki talk, I've communicated with NawlinWiki and he recovered this page to my user space User:Sharoncollinsr/CouponSmarter, then I recreated this page and I'm improving it now, could you give some suggestions? Thank you very much! Sharoncollinsr (talk) 02:13, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:ARTSPAM. Apparently you want my input and yet you went ahead and removed the tag even before I had a chance to reply. -Cntras (talk) 02:21, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very sorry, it's my fault and I'm not very familiar with the rules, could you help me sort this out? it's highly appreciated! Sharoncollinsr (talk) 02:23, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

update: Hi Cntras, I did a revision and change it to its previous status, could you help me make some necessary changes? Thank you very much! Sharoncollinsr (talk) 02:26, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article still comes across as an advertisement. -Cntras (talk) 08:31, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, this page has been existed more than one and half year (before updated by NawlinWiki), actually it's not an advertisement and it contains no promotional language, it objectively described a notable website that among the top ones within the vertical marketing, if you did a simply google search using keywords like "coupon codes", you'll find the website is listed on the top 10 position. Thanks for your attention and help, any update is highly appreciated! Sharoncollinsr (talk) 09:49, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The impression that I get is that it falls under the category of WP:ARTSPAM. -Cntras (talk) 09:51, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cntras, thank you very much for telling me more details, I'll make some necessary changes to make this article more health and useful, I found Wikipedia was a really great place where everyone can participate and share, thanks again! Sharoncollinsr (talk) 10:19, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Niaz Diasamidze

[edit]

Hello Cntras, I'm sorry but, I don't understand why my page abaut niaz diasamidze is deleted. if you don't know abaut Niaz Diasamidze, this isn't problem you can See 33a. I think this page deleted because Niaz is Georgian and not famous in USA & UK, I think so niaz is better singer then Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan and Fred Neil. Niaz's band 33a is a most famous band in georgia. and if our countrey's guests (from USA, UK, Australia or from not English language countries) interesting abaut Niaz, they can't Search in Wikipedia, because in English wikipedia we have not place for Niaz and other not english singer.
If you know abaut Katie Melua, She is also from Georgia, but famous, because he singing to English. Also if you know French U can listen Niaz's French songs. :)))) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gaga.vaa (talkcontribs) 07:26, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

niaz diasamidze was deleted under the A7 criteria which states 'An article about a real person, individual animal(s), organization (e.g. band, club, company, etc., except schools),or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant'. Basically, this means that you haven't provided enough third party references to verify the notability of the subject. -Cntras (talk) 08:29, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: User:Lilbit411

[edit]

Hello Cntras. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User:Lilbit411, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Users are given wide freedom on their own user pages. This is not speediable as vandalism. If you think it should be deleted, nominate it at WP:MFD. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 14:08, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

With all due respect to JohnCD, I have speedied the page at MfD. To a certain extent, the issue was moot as the page had already been replaced with an indefblocked-user template, but I nonetheless found the material on the page so inappropriate that deletion was required as a matter of principle (see, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Billy Ego-Sandstein). Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 03:09, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello Cntras, I've declined your speedy deletion tag on the article Specim because I believe that notability has been asserted and backed up using references. You may still send this article to AFD or propose its deletion if you wish. Regards, Airplaneman 18:48, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removal

[edit]

Hi there, I'm curious to know why you removed the link to the Actuary occupational profile? Many thanks

Read WP:EL.-Cntras (talk) 10:20, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for responding. I'd looked at this though and thought it relevant under 'What can normally be linked', point 3. The main issue being copyright if it is integrated. Would be good to hear your thoughts on this —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.152.255.33 (talk) 10:25, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The approach towards external links should be 'why', rather than 'why not'. In this case, I don't think that the addition of the link to a career site is really beneficial for readers as it doesn't add any new information. -Cntras (talk) 10:32, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for that. As I deem it to be beneficial (mainly because there isn't any detail relating to the topic specifically of how to become an actuary on this page), what is the best etiquette so to speak to submit it? Is it best to start a discussion suggesting its inclusion? Or submit it with an explanation of why it has been included? Many thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.152.255.33 (talk) 10:38, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Any response to that would be greatly appreciated —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.152.255.33 (talk) 11:47, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The best thing to would probably be to integrate the relevant information into the body of the article. -Cntras (talk) 23:38, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for that —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.152.255.33 (talk) 10:37, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Mabo Day

[edit]

Cntras, shortly after you declined the deletion of this article by Noq, the latter went ahead and deleted it, adding a perfunctory reference to it in the Eddie Mabo article. I have posted a request on Noq's talk page for the article to be reinstated. Please could you have a look at this? Simon Kidd (talk) 12:54, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article was redirected to the Eddie Mabo article that the majority of the content had been copied from. The opening sentence of the Mabo day article is the perfunctory reference that was added to the Eddie Mabo article along with the reference you gave on your edit summary. If either of you believe that a single sentence is sufficient for an article, undo the edit I made and I will be happy to take it to a formal deletion discussion. noq (talk) 13:00, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I can't see why the article can't be treated basically as a stub. I merely copied the content to flesh it out and provide a basis for further editing. It seems to me that this deletion is over-zealous! Simon Kidd (talk) 13:05, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you have to pad it out with infomration from another article would it not be more appropriate to be in that article? noq (talk) 13:07, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's basically a stub, but with content from another article to provide a basis for editing. I'd be quite happy to remove most of the content and have it as a stub with a view to further editing, according to Wikipedia principles. But I really don't think there is any harm in leaving the content in for the time being. I don't think it will cause any problems in the world! Simon Kidd (talk) 13:25, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mujahid Kamran

Hi Cntras, Can you stop editing the wikipedia for Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mujahid_Kamran Whatever you revert it back to is wrong, misleading and untrue. Just leave it the way it is now and do not bother editing it any more. You are wasting yours and others time for no good reason. Speedy deletion of HITM - review requested

[edit]

Hi Cntras,

I was setting up the HITM site, a reputable association in healthcare IT. I was surprised to see that you have marked it for speed deletion. I am working in this field as journalist and did only use the template from a similar US association (HIMSS). I have even made this text more neutral as I do not want that HITM should be promoted.

Can you please review your comment as in my point of view it is wrong.

Thank you very much,

West LA Picture

[edit]

Did you undo the edit because of the size of the picture? I was in the process of reducing it. As for the picture on there now, its of downtown Los Angeles and the section is about the geography of the district of West LA so it doesn't make too much sense for it to be there. The picture I had uploaded was of the borders of the district as described in the article. Boder111 (talk) 06:52, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted in good faith, the incorrect formatting gave the impression that it may be a test edit. -Cntras (talk) 06:52, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see, no worries. Boder111 (talk) 06:58, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good job, making a noob feel unwelcome. why dont you actually LOOK at the WHOLE SERIES OF EDITS before clicking "undo"!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr shish kebob (talkcontribs) 03:54, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Cntras, while I don't approve of the tone in the message above, I do believe that it had been better if you had explained why you reverted their good-faith edits (which actually had a valid source and included an edit summary), perhaps with a Welcome message, instead of just hitting "rollback", without any further explanation. Remember, rollback is to be used only in clear instances of vandalism--and this was certainly not such a case. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 04:16, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • This also really isn't vandalism--and again, that's from a new user, whom you easily could have given a welcome template with some guidance. Drmies (talk) 04:18, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings, I removed your {db} tag from Britannia Anchor Removals, as the editor has requested feedback at RfF, so I will provide guidance to the author there on what must be changed in order to move the article to the mainspace. We're putting out some effort to userify and advise on unacceptable articles by newb editors, in hopes that they will learn and stay longer rather than be rejected and leave. dB South Speedy Deletion

Why did you mark my article on this local business for deletion? It has significant resources and a .gov about it's information. It poses as vital information for Georgia Business' and economic data of Georgia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FrederickMS (talkcontribs) 10:34, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject. See WP:CORP. -Cntras (talk) 10:37, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  1. How is economic data of Georgia not important in economic trialling times such as now?
  2. How is it not important in enriching and adding to the categories of business' in Georgia?
  3. What exactly are you referring to in WP:CORP, please be more specific.

Frederick Smith 10:44, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

See WP:CORPDEPTH. Provide reliable third party sources that actually provide substantive information, not a general business directory. -Cntras (talk) 10:46, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

After looking at WP:CORPDEPTH I noticed secondary sources claims of revenue is NOT listed as trivial and general business. Also you did not answer my questions 2 and 3.

  1. 3) How is it not important in enriching to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Companies_based_in_Cobb_County,_Georgia (which has only 1 listing)
  2. New, 4) Most importantly if I add more than just what I've found will you delete speedy deletion tag? Frederick Smith 10:56, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Final point: Since the page is deleted I shall return with what you have requested. Thanks

Hey! I noticed that you have previously reverted an edit at Everybody Draw Mohammed Day to declare it an annual event. I've was having a conversation with a new WP:SPA about why it isn't inherently an annual event. The conversation has degraded into two editors flinging derogatory words at me. The degradation of the conversation has resulted in the two editors pushing to edit war which I won't have a part of. I'm leaving this message here for you and any other editors who have been involved with the subject being an annual event or not as an invitation to either join the conversation or simply edit the page as you see fit. Regardless of your opinion and how it compares to mine, I feel like the situation is degrading and more eyes on the situation will only help work things out. Yellowleg.com

[edit]

Hey, noticed your change and comment "surely there's something more substantive in the source....". Care to elaborate? The line that you removed was: It claims to stock only the best travel books [1][2] for every destination in the world and promises to deliver them throughout India in 3 business days.

There really isn't much to substantiate that they make a certain claim. If your issue is with the reference listed then just the ref tag can be moved to the bottom. Chinug (talk) 12:20, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure you can find something more substantive to talk about, i.e. brief description of Aashish Gupta. -Cntras (talk) 12:23, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Understand. But you don't have anything against the lines that you removed, right? It's a new article and maybe someone else who does know more about Mr Aashish Gupta will add to it. In the meantime, do you mind if I undo your change? Chinug (talk) 12:29, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The lines are the problem. It doesn't matter if it is verifiable - it's still a subtle form of spam -Cntras (talk) 12:31, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ummm, not sure I catch your drift. How is it spam if it only states facts about what the company sells or offers -- by that logic all of the content in Amazon.com's Product and Services section would be spam.Chinug (talk) 12:40, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:PROMO. Think about it this way: would the sentence be appropriate within an encyclopedia? No. Cntras (talk) 12:46, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe you could suggest a different wording so the relevant content remains intact.Chinug (talk) 13:39, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Should probably find something else to discuss. -Cntras (talk) 10:10, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion converted to PROD: Saint Bottom

[edit]

Hello Cntras. I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on Saint Bottom to a proposed deletion tag, because I do not believe CSD applies to the page in question. I am reluctant to speedy anything as a hoax unless it is really obvious, because strange things sometimes turn out to be true: this certainly looks suspicious, and I can't by a quick search find any confirmation, so I have PRODded it and will ask the author if she can provide sources. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:00, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah ok. -Cntras (talk) 05:59, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Helen Rogers Reid

[edit]

Hi, just letting you know I declined the speedy delete for Helen Rogers Reid because:

On the one hand, the article is pretty poor, and its sole claim to notability (co-owning the NY Tribune) is not only buried at the end but mispelt. Plus notability not being inherited, this of itsef may not be sufficient.

On the other hand, a quick Google search shows Mrs Reid was the driving force behind reviving the paper, merging it with the NY Herald and driving it into second place for sales behind the NY Times. Reid was also a confidant of the Eisenhower and Roosevelt families and notable for her impact on publishing and American society in her time.

So while the article as it stands looks like a possible speedy delete, notability is asserted as it stands, and a small amount of work can make that much clearer. I'll add the sources and improve the article later today.

Just letting you know why I declined the speedy on what is (I agree) presently a bad and barely notable article, but one that should justifiably remain if improved. Euryalus (talk) 04:28, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the PrimeTel page

[edit]

Hello Cntras. I would like to let you know that i will be going through the PrimeTel page and editing the part(s) where they may look as if it's promoting a product or service. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Athos1983 (talkcontribs) 12:21, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Editing "Masters of Science in Electrical Communication Engineering" Page

[edit]

Hi,

The page I am trying to edit is part of a different category, namely, Education in Germany, instead of " Academic degrees -> Master's degrees"

Thanks for your understanding

Ibrahimkassel (talk) 07:11, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well there's no reason to make it specific to a particular country. The article should provide objective information regarding the master's degree - not a promo for a particular institution. -Cntras (talk) 07:14, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The page is intended to be an information page, just like the pages http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Art_Crime_Studies_Masters_Program or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Master_Program_in_Biomedical_Sciences are. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ibrahimkassel (talkcontribs) 07:17, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The two articles should be converted to a more objective reflection of the said degrees. As I said, there's no need to make it specific to a particular institution/country. -Cntras (talk) 07:20, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
How would you recommend creating a page, for a program which is specific to a particular institution?-Ibrahimkassel (talk) 07:33, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You could merge the relevant information to the university article. -Cntras (talk) 13:28, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ibrahim, please see the general notability guidelines to see if the program is eligible for inclusion as a stand-alone article. But stop writing about U of Kassel. ErikHaugen (talk | contribs) 17:35, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Genre warriors

[edit]

What? I never genre war. It's called reverting, not genre warring. What I'm doing is reverting the genre warriors. And yes it is vandalism if you can get blocked for it. • GunMetal Angel 10:58, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The concept applies to both those who change it as well as those who insist on sticking with a particular genre. Given that it is 1. unreferenced and 2. a related genre, that change can hardly be considered as 'vandalism'. -Cntras (talk) 11:01, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just sourced that the band is metalcore. Okay? I didn't try to apply onto thinking I was in a content dispute when it seemed like vandalism seeing how actual hardcore is way noticeably different. When it gets to music on this site, what is deemed vandalism is hard to tell if you don't know the music. I'm not being rude about that, I'm just saying that ya know it can be pretty ridiculous from someone like my own point of view where both my parents grew up in the punk scene and I fell into metal and can easily tell if something is hardcore or not. It can apply that way to several others who listen to Parkway Drive as well. -- GunMetal Angel 11:14, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What it comes down to is verifiability not personal opinion/experience. That is, if the user can find a reliable source for 'hardcore' then you really have no argument against the insertion of that genre. -Cntras (talk) 11:21, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Because there are some complications. Such as how fans of black metal would defend the fact that Gorgoroth is black metal when there's several sources on the net that would call them heavy metal or dark ambient or whatever metal and whatnot. The same would go for Parkway Drive. Those that know they are metal would hold up the argument to go along with the sources. Heck even a beaker can be classified as a jar or pitcher by sources, but by the standards of identification on this site are strengthened by common knowledge of person well-aware towards what the subject is. America Invents Act

[edit]

I noticed that you reverted the three additions I made to the article on 20 and 21 June 2011 (UTC) without comment on the article discussion page or on my talk page. You annotated your changes with the phrases (a) "COI issues"; and (b) "rm ref spam".

I would like to begin by taking issue with your accusation that I have a conflict of interest. Your accusation is baseless on its face. You mention not a single fact or shred of evidence to support this accusation.

Rather that make baseless ad personam allegations, I think Wikipedia's audience would be better served if you focused on facts, such as the language of the article. If there is specific language in the article you would like me to revise into a more neutral tone, please refer me to that language.

Regarding your annotation "rm ref spam", I have reviewed the text you deleted. The text includes a source's name and affiliation, and a website URL. There is no email address or other spam target in the text. Please explain why you deleted this text.

One of the central purposes of Wikipedia is to better inform its readership. I believe my contributions to the America Invents Act article serve this purpose. Specifically, I: (a) added a section on Budget impact and U.S. Treasury liability, a topic which all other contributors completely ignored; (b) addressed provisions of the pending legislation dealing with venue and attorney's fees, another topic which all other contributors ignored; and (c) added the perspective of a venture capitalist who funds the commercialization of inventions, a perspective all but absent from the article but critical to understanding the long-term impact of the legislation. My additions were from verifiable sources including an expert in U.S. constitutional law, a managing director of a venture capital firm, a record of testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives, the text of the House bill 1249 which is the subject of the article, and the website of a company worth $5 billion. I provided complete citations to all sources. I believe Wikipedia's audience is better informed as a result of my contributions.

Please restore all my additions by 13:00 UTC, 21 June 2011.

Please post the language in the article you would like me to revise and the reason you object to it to my talk page. ChagSameach (talk) 06:58, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that I would classify the addition of lengthy quotes as an 'improvement' to the article. Essentially the three edits are simply lengthy quotes from various sources with little to no additional detail. Whether it was done intentionally or otherwise, the references in this paragraph clearly constitutes as WP:REFSPAM. As follows, the question of COI stems from the fact that generally speaking, those who engage in such actions tend to have some affiliation with the given link. -Cntras (talk) 10:05, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response.

In the article, the quotes I included from Massey and Neis each cogently and succinctly present their respective concerns about the pending legislation and the reasons for their concerns. Each speaks as an expert within his area of expertise, constitutional law and invention commercialization, respectively. While the quotes are lengthy, so is the United States Constitution, but no one is advocating deleting the Bill of Rights for the sake of brevity. The question is not absolute length but whether, given the complexity of the subject matter, the text is cogent and reasonably succinct. Massey reaches a legal conclusion. Each point he makes, e.g. the procedure Section 18 creates, the Fifth Amendment problem with ex post facto legislation, and potential federal government liability under relevant U.S. Supreme Court decisions, is a link the chain. If any link is missing or deleted, the chain fails because the conclusion is inadequately supported. Neis describes the startup company funding process well known to those involved in the business of invention commercialization. A reader must understand this process and the factors bearing on each decision point in the process to appreciate how the pending legislation will impact the process. For example, why is the predictability of cost of patent acquisition and defense important, and how does the time line for obtaining undisputed patent rights affect the viability of a startup? I cannot improve on the words of these experts, so I quoted them.

It appears you did not understand the text you deleted in your "rm ref spam" deletion. Detkin is a founder of a company which has acquired one of the largest patent portfolios in the world. One can reasonably infer that Detkin knows whether large or small entities are primarily responsible for patentable inventions. This is the subject matter of the quote, which is verifiably sourced to the website of Detkin's company. This is clearly not an advertizement.

Your "rm ref spam" deletion of information from the article, in violation of the Wikipedia policy of warning an editor of alleged spamming, WP:SPAM, may constitute vandalism. Please see WP:VANDAL for Wikipedia's policy on vandalsim.

I have reverted your reversion and "rm ref spam" deletion.

Turning now to your baseless accusation of conflict of interest, your unsubstantiated and conclusory statement that "generally speaking, those who engage in such actions tend to have some affiliation with the given link" is completely inadequate to support a serious accusation against an individual. Furthermore, I am not affiliated with any of the sources I have cited in the article.

I demand that today you change the annotation to your edit on the article's revision history page, and, on this talk page, retract your accusation and post an apology, each to remain immediately viewable to viewers of the page for one year from posting.ChagSameach (talk) 18:28, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Really? You don't see anything wrong with linking to a company's product and services page? Read WP:RS and WP:REFSPAM. With regards to the quotes - learn to summarise the content, it shouldn't be too difficult given that you are clearly capable of writing in prose. The insertion of such quotes is not an improvement and some may also consider this to be a form of POV pushing. Oh and I would post an apology - but would that really be enough? Perhaps I should also contact the local news station and apologize on live television. What do you think? -Cntras (talk) 08:14, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In the same one month period, you filed 94 reports of vandalism.

The month above appears to be representative sample of your activity on Wikipedia, based on your User Contribution pages back to January 2011. Assuming this is so, annually you revert the work of approximately 3,348 contributors and file 1,128 reports of vandalism.

Predictably, your undoing the work of contributors discourages people from contributing to Wikipedia. As one administrator noted on your Talk page, "Not surprising they [a new contributor you targeted] immediately ceased and have not edited since." (Spartaz Humbug!, 28 January 2011) Administrators have admonished you against reverting contributor's work without explanation (Drmies, 6 April 2011) and for tagging articles for deletion two minutes after page creation (Spartaz Humbug!, 28 January 2011).

Given these enormous numbers of reversions and vandalism reports, one must ask whether your actions are in concert with Wikipedia's policy of encouraging the contributions of users. How many of these 3,348 contributors are no longer contributing because you have undone their work or harassed them by reporting them as Wikipedia vandals? Would the Wikipedia encyclopedia today include significantly more information and be significantly more useful to its audience had your access been barred some time ago? Going forward, will Wikipedia's audience be better off, on balance, with the contributions of these thousands of users or with the your solitary contributions?

Please let me know on this page today whether you will stop undoing the work of others or whether it will be necessary for me to bring your activities to the attention of Wikipedia staff and let them take whatever action they deem appropriate. ChagSameach (talk) 23:14, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't quite follow. Are you suggesting that my counter-vandalism efforts is somehow an indictment against my judgment? Maybe if you bothered to check the revisions and the block log of each editor, you would realize the redundancy of your argument. But I understand - when all else fails, you can always rely on Ad hominem attacks. Am I right? -Cntras (talk) 03:27, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Soulforge

[edit]

Hello Cntras. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Soulforge, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Having members who are or were members of a band (whose article cannot be speedy deleted under A7) indicates importance/significance. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 06:16, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that the members had to have individual notability. Anyhow, I'll probably pursue an Afd. -Cntras (talk) 11:02, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
For a band to be notable, it has to meet WP:BAND. Surviving an WP:A7 speedy deletion request only requires an assertion of "importance", and a band that has a member whose old band has a Wikipedia article is probably "important" enough not to be speedy deleted (but not necessarily notable). I hope that makes some sense. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 04:25, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

because i thought that a csd was a little over the top. give him a chance to write the article. it does look like advertising, but none that cannot be fixed.

Size of degree abbreviations?

[edit]

Thank you so much for the welcoming! I really appreciate it! :) I have a quick question.

On politicians' pages, their alma mater would list their university, then in parentheses the abbreviation for the degree they earned in small text. Would one use the small text for degree abbreviations for People pages, where the text on the info boxes isn't as large as the text for politicians' info boxes?

Grenadetoenails (talk) 04:22, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there's any particular rule with the use of small text. Just use it as you see fit. -Cntras (talk) 05:03, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion converted to PROD: The Stoneridge Group

[edit]

Hello Cntras. I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on The Stoneridge Group to a proposed deletion tag, because I do not believe CSD applies to the page in question. Thank you. Danger (talk) 05:38, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there's any credible assertion of notability. -Cntras (talk) 05:41, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CSD rationale

[edit]

I'm curious why you removed the CSD from Olga Kalyuzhnaya, a tennis player with no wins and no references. Looks like an A7 to me, am I missing something?--SPhilbrickT 19:07, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article was tagged with an a1, which I declined as context was clearly given for the subject. I added some references to the article, but that was later removed by another editor. -Cntras (talk) 01:08, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thannks for your message and comments - I have gone in to make some edits and add some sources after you marked the Billiter article. In the process I mistakenly deleted your speedy deletion tag - apologies! This is my first article and my intention was to profile some of the companies working in the anti-corruption due diligence space such as Billiter, Risk Advisory, and Diligence which are big companies and warrant mention alongside companies such as Control Risk Group.

Please let me know if the amendments are satisfactory. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maggiemec (talkcontribs) 03:32, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling out degrees.

[edit]

Thank you for answering my last question!

When talking about an individual's education, should one spell out their degrees or abbreviate? Also, if the degrees are spelled out, should they be capitalized (Bachelor of Science or bachelor of science)?

Grenadetoenails (talk) 05:58, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See MOS:ABBR. Abbreviations are fine, but if you decide to spell it out then you should capitalize where appropriate. -Cntras (talk) 11:15, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Soulforge (Band)

[edit]

Hey i am new to Wiki, and i am slowly working my way around it, i have always LOVED wikipedia and always wanted to join and i have done, and most recently have made a page for SOULFORGE a rising band that i am now Manager of. and i created a page for them here as they have proper creditations and the like, but i was wondering if you could give me any advice on the page (in basic terms plz :P ) as i am having trouble with someone flagging it for deletion (when i had one of the band members sort something out with wiki at one stage during the week and it was approved)... now all i mainly done was "edit" it as it was fairly poor quality in terms of layout, wording and structure, and i just mainly fixed all that and added links to other websites for people to read, and make it look nicer and more proffesional. and all of a sudden its being flagged again i was wondering (and thank you for your time reading and if u dont mind doing this),just having a look for me and seeing where i have gone wrong and if you think it looks satisfying enough for wiki

Cheers

Speedy deletion declined: Laissez-faire fraternity

[edit]

Hello Cntras. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Laissez-faire fraternity, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: a claim of importance is made on the talk page. If credible (which I admit is arguable) that claim is enough to escape A7. I shall take to AfD. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 15:09, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The claim is enough to escape A7? It's just delaying the inevitable for the sake of "procedural soundness". -Cntras (talk) 11:49, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edlesborough

[edit]

Why have you tried to remove my post on the green? The facts about the sports facility are correct. Considering i actually live in the village i can assure you that over 80% of the residents that live there will agree that the council does not do enough for kids. This is not my own anaylsis at all this is the view of the residents. If you want more facts you can go on the council's website and look at there budget for the last 10 years you can see a very minimal amount has been spent on funding projects for teenagers and that they have a huge savings they carry over every year unwilling to spend it. Regardless to countless appeal by the youth of the village. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Edlesborough4 (talkcontribs) 10:04, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The tone is not appropriate for an encyclopaedia - '...The Green is very beautiful on a summers day filled with families'. -Cntras (talk) 11:54, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well would you not see it fit to edit the section rather then deleting altogether? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Edlesborough4 (talkcontribs) 14:38, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That would be a legitimate claim - if there was something worth saving. -Cntras (talk) 09:56, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Read the deletion template -Cntras (talk) 09:55, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So, if the article is about a band, you immediately try to delete it? It needs time to develop. Deepblue1 (talk) 10:26, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"This article may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion as an article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance". -Cntras (talk) 22:39, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop vandalizing the America Invents Act page

[edit]

Just because you disagree w/the POV of a section does not give you the right to delete it. If you feel a POV is under-represented, then ADD IT.LadyArguer (talk) 08:55, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notice how in the edit summary I referred to a particular policy known as WP:QUOTEFARM. You should probably read it. By the way, who am I speaking to? LadyArguer or ChagSameach? -Cntras (talk) 11:32, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for working on this Cntras. We should probably get a moderator in on the issue. I think The America Invents Act page should be nearly entirely re-written. The entire For and Against section is unnecessary and so infused with POV that it's hard to imagine keeping it. VivekVish (talk) 20:13, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Having a moderator probably won't help - given that SPA accounts are unlikely to heed suggestions. If it continues I'll have to start another ANI thread. -Cntras (talk) 12:09, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've commented on the DRN page. I took a harder look at her information, and the sourcing on it is (predictably) bad. I'm chuckling that some of the "valuable information on section 18 and interest groups" is from (shock!) an interest group! Ravensfire (talk) 15:02, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the input! Hopefully this matter can be resolved quickly. -Cntras (talk) 03:03, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

beginners questions

[edit]

I'm editing an article and I have some questions:

  • Are there any guidelines as to what should be included in the "see also" section of an article?
  • In the text of the article I have some words such as "project" that appear many times. When should I leave the word as it is (e.g. "project") and when should I link it to the Wikipedia article (e.g. Project)? If I do link it, should I do so every time it appears in the article?

Thanks in advance! Guy.other (talk) 07:09, 15 August 2011 (UTC)Guy.other[reply]

There's no specific rule when it comes to the use of a 'see also' section (WP:ALSO). As for the links, you should generally only link the first occurrence. Hope that helps, -Cntras (talk) 10:02, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cntras,

I saw the message on my talk page. Thank for that. I'm still waiting for feedback to my article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_feedback/2011_August_11#User:MPIntl.2FITMA_.28Internationale_Textilmaschinen_Ausstellung.29). However, there's no comments till date. Could you please help? Thanks once again! MPIntl (talk) 09:14, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The general tone of the article isn't particularly encyclopaedic as it is plagued with weasel words and promotional language. Also, you need to add some reliable third party references. -Cntras (talk) 12:57, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Cntras, thank you for your reply. Don't really understand the tone of the article I should tweak to. Could you elarorate more on some examples in the article that is plagued with weasel words/promotional language? And probably some examples/references I could refer to? Thanks much!MPIntl (talk) 07:06, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't recognise the issues with the promotional language then you probably have some sort of conflict of interest with the subject. For referencing see WP:RS. -Cntras (talk) 10:51, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Cntras, I've further edited the article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MPIntl/ITMA_%28Internationale_Textilmaschinen_Ausstellung%29). Can help to see if it is ok to move on to Wikipedia? Hmm, the problems I mentioned above haven't been addressed. In order to be encyclopaedic it needs more factual information that doesn't include overblown promotional language. Also, for more information about referencing see - WP:RS, WP:ABOUTSELF. -Cntras (talk) 23:58, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

Hi Cntras, please use an editsummary (undo, not rollback) if you remove edits that aren't obvious vandalism. like this one. For these linkadditions, note also that these links have been approved by user:armbrust, who is the main contributor to these articles, [1], [2]. Best regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 05:37, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say that concerns over coi-spam holds more weight than the 'approval' of another editor. -Cntras (talk) 12:59, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My main concern is that you should use an edit summary for this kind of removal. Appropriate linkaddition or not - this clearly wasn't "obvious vandalism". The second point: COI is indeed something that holds a lot of weight, and I've reverted quite a few coiadditions myself over the years. Whenever a link is considered useful by those who are actually writing about the subject that should also be taken into consideration when judging if a link should be removed again or not. Best regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 13:58, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Deletion Request Made By You

[edit]

Hello Cntras, I'd like to ask your reasons for requesting a speedy deletion for the Backyardpoultry.com article (Which as since been deleted)? The article, although brand new, covered an important topic relating to Australian agriculture, and poultry and I'd like to, just for future reference, ask why you tagged it to be deleted. Anjwalker (talk) 04:13, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It was deleted because it did not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant. For future reference, see WP:YFA. -Cntras (talk) 10:34, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kashmir white granite

[edit]

I have declined your speedy deletion tag on Kashmir white granite; it is clearly not promotional in tone. Ironholds (talk) 03:05, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It was tagged based on the user's intention - which was to create an article solely for purpose of promoting a particular company (refspam). -Cntras (talk) 06:55, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And the users intentions are normally irrelevant. Judge the content, not the contributor. Ironholds (talk) 20:13, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would say that it is relevant - given that this is a pretty clear case of coi-spam. The username alone should raise alarm. -Cntras (talk) 02:17, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I removed it because it was all incorrect. Either people put up correct material or don't use wiki. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andiethewestie (talkcontribs) 13:18, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cntras,

I have to write a secondary research report on Glanbia. Unfortunately I cannot find any information to create a SWOT analysis or Porter's Five Forces Analysis. As you saw that you've edited the Wikipedia Glanbia page a few times I was wondering if you have a tip where I'll find some for my analyses information? Sorry for my bad English. I just started to study in Ireland two months ago.

I really hope that you can help me.

[edit]

Hi, What can I do to keep this page? Yes, it is a term I made up, but all terms are made up at one time or another. Since i thought of squirt present, the term is going around my area like wildfire, several of my friends have contacted me and want to know more about it and a couple have gotten presents. I really think this is a valid term, and should be included in wiki. But please tell me what i can do to keep the page up, I have no sources, just me. Removal of headstone inscription for Samuel Rosewell

[edit]

Hi For future reference, what is your reason for removing the headstone inscription from my article on Samuel Rosewell? I thought it provided useful information on how Samuel was perceived. Colinrosewell (talk) 11:21, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have been trying to find a photo of Samuel's headstone but discovered that it was destroyed by bombs in WWII. I thought it would be useful to reinstate the inscription as it is no longer available for anyone to view. Colinrosewell (talk) 22:48, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You tagged my account for adding spam links. I added links to pages of people who had recently spoke at a conference, with links to their specific content, which is analogous to updating a profile about a recent book somebody wrote, with a link to the book's external webpage. The links were not to the overall webpage inktalks.com (which btw does not sell any products/is not a petition), but to the specific and relevant content within the site. Not spamming, IMO. Could you please help me understanding how should i proceed and how should my articles look like in order to be accepted by Wikipedia?

The best thing to do is to re-create the article via WP:AFC. The AFC drafting process will give you time to fix any given issues within your article before it is moved into the mainspace. [edit]

Dear Cntras,

I do appreciate very much your comments and recommendations on my (small) contribution in Wikipedia as well as the concerns regarding a possible conflict of interest. It's fundamental for Wikipedia to provide unbiased information and be transparent about who is providing what kind of information. I will take a closer look at your recommendations and how the information I provided can be presented in a way that there is no bias or intransparency as to the nature and source of information.

Within the next days I will work on that and certainly to appreciate your recommendations as well as critique on future entries.

Thank you for contributing your time to Wikipedia and bringing education and knowledge to the world!

why it is spam?

[edit]

Hello,

I was adding external links yesterday to poets’ sites that lead to interviews with the poets in a literary magazine. Some of the poets are now deceased and the interviews would likely be of interest to their fans. The publication in question is legitimate and is a member of the Council for Literary Magazines and Presses. Full disclosure: I am an intern for the magazine, but the point was to share information versus personal gain.

I wanted to clarify my intentions before giving up, and ask whether the links were deemed inappropriate because the information was unwelcomed, or because I am somewhat affiliated with the magazine-- (I have to tell my editor why this effort is not possible).

Thanks for the feedback

-The intern. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChristinaLForbes (talkcontribs) 14:40, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

May I join the conversation? I'd like to give my perspective. Christina, in my experience spam, in Wikipedia terms, is often classed as to do more to do with the action of the editor than the links they add. As a newly registered editor you have only added links to the magazine you are associated with and so alarm bells start ringing that perhaps your primary intention is to raise the profile of the magazine. WP:PROMOTION, WP:LINKSPAM and WP:ADV have lots more on this. This misunderstanding often happens and new, well-placed literary editors, who can make a highly valuable contribution to WP, often walk a way in a huff feeling that their contributions have been spurned. It would have been helpful, at least, for Cntras to have given a full edit summary instead of just rolling back. As ever, we have to consider the quality of the links on a case by case basis and look at the links that the page already has. Looking at, say, Robert Creeley, you will notice that it's already chocked with ext links, including interviews. I understand your exasperation, Christina. In our defence, we are just about to try and draft a clearer set of guidelines about adding links to poetry articles and publishers do often try and load articles with their own books. I would like to draft a guide for publishers specifically. As a new editor, I welcome you to Wikipedia. I hope we can find a way to continue this conversation and find a way through the impasse. Best wishes (Poetry Project member) Span (talk) 21:00, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy tag

[edit]

Hi, Cntras. I wanted to stop by to let you know that I decided to remove the SD tag [3] you placed on Wings Cultural society; I think it asserts a level of significance that substantiates possible notability. In all fairness, the article does have problems (NPOV, etc.), and may in fact not meet the relevant notability guidelines upon analysis, but I would be remiss not to give the author a chance to make his or her case. Best, NTox · talk 09:23, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can tell, they're a non-notable group that has been invited to a number of non-notable festivals. Where exactly is the claim of significance? -Cntras (talk) 09:26, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In my eyes, the spirit of the CSD criteria (i.e., A7, A9, etc.) are narrow—designed to weed out articles that are unmistakably inconsequential. Generally, I think if there is any reasonable doubt indication that the article could be included in the encyclopedia, it should be given some time for that opportunity. Notability, with its specific definition in the culture here, is a debate for the PROD and AfD folks; CSD deals with the altogether (much lower) standard of [possible] significance. In any case, this particular author reminded me of this this one, which made me pause for a moment. Note, however, that I have since realized the page is a violation of copyright. It has now been re-tagged.NTox · talk 09:52, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, CSD deals with perhaps the more basic criteria of possible significance. But in my view, the article in question doesn't even meet this basic criteria. -Cntras (talk) 02:10, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Overly speedy deletion tagging

[edit]

Please do not tag articles for speedy deletion within a minute after they are created, as you did for Goodsteel.biz (unless they are an attack page or obvious copyvio). There is no way to know what information the original creator was intending to add to the article at that time, and tagging so quickly is a form of biting new users. WP:NPP recommends waiting at least 15 minutes from the last edit; personally, for A7, I think we should be waiting several hours. But within the same minute of creation is definitely inappropriate. Qwyrxian (talk) 03:29, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Inserting a CSD tag does not necessarily stop the creator from improving the article. They are free to contest the deletion and continue with any additions up until the article is reviewed by another user or administrator. I also don't see it as 'biting' considering that a welcome message is placed on the user's page which offers a clear explanation of the situation as well as directions for further assistance. People seem to think that newbies are these timid and passive people who will abandon the project the moment there is any confrontation. This is simply not the case. -Cntras (talk) 06:56, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I didn't respond earlier. I understand your opinion, but it does not match the community's. You cannot continue to tag pages so quickly for speedy deletion. It's rude and it damages the encyclopedia. Why the hurry anyway? Is something catastrophic going to happen if an article on a non-notable person is up for a few hours? 3RR

[edit]

Your recent editing history at Muslim Students' Association shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 04:31, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In any other situation additions that are a clear violation of WP:NPOV and WP:RS, would warrant the immediate removal. -Cntras (talk) 04:38, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that questions of content having NPOV and/or RS issues isn't an allowed exception to 3RR restrictions per WP:NOT3RR. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 04:43, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
WP:IAR could be invoked in this instance. -Cntras (talk) 04:46, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It would be better to either start a discussion on the article talk page, or to start an RFC on the article talk page. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 04:51, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, at first sight, I also thought this was a spammer. However, it looks like that site genuinely provides access to a number of periodicals, so those links may actually be useful. The access is free, so it doesn't really look like spam to me. But perhaps you have noticed something that I missed. In any case, RU123 is a new editor and clearly does not know yet how to add such links in an acceptable way (I had already started to clean them, see Journal of Libertarian Studies, when I noticed you had reverted his additions). I'd appreciate you rhoughts on why you think these links are not acceptable. Thanks! --Guillaume2303 (talk) 15:04, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Even if the link is of use - that does not negate the fact that it may still be spam. Also, #13 of WP:ELNO - "A general site that has information about a variety of subjects should usually not be linked to from an article on a more specific subject" -Cntras (talk) 15:08, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's a pretty narrow interpretation of ELNO. Does that mean I cannot link to a certain article on the site of the New York Times because it also has info on many other subjects? RU123 is linking to the specific page concerning the article subjects . His addition of a link to the site's homepage as well as the clumsy placing/phrasing of his links may just be a consequence of his inexperience. I still don't see the spam aspect here. --Guillaume2303 (talk) 15:15, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps I stand corrected. An admin issued another warning for spamming, but others have echoed your concerns. I've left a message on User:Alexf talk page - asking for a comment. Hopefully that will clear things up. -Cntras (talk) 04:14, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Guillaume2303 that spam is not involved. The links he adds are directly related to the article topic and only to the topic. Each link he adds is entirely different. Rjensen (talk) 05:15, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd argue that the issue has more to do with questions of intent rather than the relevance of such links. -Cntras (talk) 05:16, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"intent"???? When I deduce his intent from his edits I conclude he intended to improve Wikipedia and assist readers with valuable resources that most users do not know about. Rjensen (talk) 05:35, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well in a case like this, the only distinguishing factor is the intent. I understand where you're coming from, but from what I've seen - administrators have dealt with such edits as spam. See the edit history of 219.64.40.18 (talk · contribs · info · WHOIS) for instance. RU123 is essentially doing the same thing as the IP. I'm still waiting for a response from Alexf. -Cntras (talk) 05:48, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Alexf has dropped his objection. RU123 is NOT adding the same link to articles--every link is different and is tailored to the article, which is what makes for a better Wikipedia. Adding [See New York Times] to 50 articles is Spam; but adding [See NY Times April 10, 1940 p 3], [See NY Times Nov 13, 1945 p 1] etc is not spam. Rjensen (talk) 15:48, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As far I can tell from the WP:ELN discussion, Barek and Hu12 share my concerns. Pending resolution. -Cntras (talk) 05:06, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Teahouse!

[edit]

Hi Cntras! Thank you so much for participating at the WP:Teahouse Teahouse! Your experience is invaluable to not only supporting new editors, but, also educating fellow experienced editors. I did want to provide one tip, if you don't mind! When we assist new editors at the Teahouse, we try to be as "least" jargony as possible - linking directly to policies and procedures, etc. Usually when we do that, most new editors still don't understand (Wikipedia has never been easy on the "easy to understand the rules" front). Usually most folks who help out will explain the policies in super easy language (aka if my grandma can't understand it, it's not easy enough) and perhaps add an additional "if you feel like trudging through the policy..you can do so here." comment. If you're interested in taking a stronger role in the Teahouse, I encourage you to learn more about being a Teahouse Host here. And if you just want a basic "tip guide" on lending a hand, we have that too, and you can find it here. Thank you once more for your contributions to the Teahouse and to Wikipedia. I look forward to sharing more cups of tea :) Sarah (talk) 16:12, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Talkback template

[edit]

Hey Cntras, just thought you might like to know there is a special talkback template available that you can put on the talkpage of an editor once you've answered their question at the Teahouse Q&A. Also, if you wish you can install any of the various scripts to assist you in Teahouse-related editing. Cheers, :-) benzband (talk) 11:23, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I'll use it next time. -Cntras (talk) 11:29, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help regarding page deletion process

[edit]

Cntras, I came across the article Teamwork PM I think it does not meet Wikipedia notability standards. I looked at the editing history, when the article was written it was nominated for speedy deletion but the original author simply removed the deletion tag. I'd appreciate some explanations on how this is possible and how the process works. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guy.other (talkcontribs) 09:30, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Guy.other. As you're probably aware, users cannot remove speedy deletion templates from their own page. So with this in mind, you could restore the G11 tag. However, a better option would be to nominate it for deletion via PROD or AfD. -Cntras (talk) 11:45, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick reply and the useful links. That's what I thought and being new to Wikipedia editing, this is why I'm asking. I might be missing something but when I look at the page editing history I see someone added the speedy deletion request:
13:39, 22 April 2010‎ Xtzou (talk | contribs)‎ . . (1,386 bytes) (+12)‎ . . (Requesting speedy deletion (CSD G11). (TW)) (undo)
Then the original author removes it after a few minutes:
13:46, 22 April 2010‎ Mercuryfrost (talk | contribs)‎ . . (1,396 bytes) (+10)‎ . . (undo)
14:44, 22 April 2010‎ Mercuryfrost (talk | contribs)‎ . . (1,375 bytes) (-21)‎ . . (undo)
I thought that in the process of deletion the notability is discussed somewhere but I couldn't find any information in the article Talk page. Can I see somewhere why the article was eventually not deleted and what led to this decision? I tried finding it on the "Search current and archived AfD discussions" but couldn't find it.
I would also appreciate your thoughts, Do you think this article is actually notable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guy.other (talkcontribs) 13:50, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You may have confused CSD with the AFD. For CSD, an article is deleted on the discretion of the reviewing administrator. There is no discussion because it is essentially a 'quick fail' procedure for (generally) non-contentious deletions. AFD on the other hand is mediated via discussions of notability and other relevant policies. As for the notability of Teamwork PM, you could probably argue that it fails WP:GNG. -Cntras (talk) 14:29, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the help. I tried following the guide "How to nominate a single page for deletion" on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion#How_to_list_pages_for_deletion. I managed to complete steps I and II but I'm not able to complete III. I tried following the steps, adding the line "subst:afd1 | pg=Teamwork PM" (with double "{") at the top of the list and writing "Adding Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Teamwork PM" in the edit summary but it doesn't expand correctly. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guy.other (talkcontribs) 13:51, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
First, you should replace the content on the Teamwork PM AfD page with: {{subst:afd2 | pg=Teamwork PM | cat=web| text=The article fails [[WP:GNG]]. I could not find independent reliable sources about it}}. Then, add {{subst:afd3 | pg=Teamwork PM}} here. -Cntras (talk) 14:55, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again, I think I finally managed to get it right. Hope it's fine that I added it to the 25th and it's already the 26th. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guy.other (talkcontribs) 07:37, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The article was nominated on the 25th, so it should be fine. Everything else seems to be in order. -Cntras (talk) 12:12, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

July 2012

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Msys Test Automation Solutions. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. The IP user is perfectly entitled to remove the speedy deletion tag, unless you can prove s/he is the author of the page. Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 14:27, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is highly likely given that the IP attempted to add the same company to this list just last week and then suddenly returns to remove a CSD tag to a newly created article by the same name. Coincidence? I think not. -Cntras (talk) 14:33, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think it isn't clear enough to add it back, especially since, when an article of the same name was at articles for creation the IP didn't edit it, and the contest reason given by the author and IP are quite different see here. I am not saying this is true and even close to true, however if the IP has an interest in it (say they work there) then it's perfectly reasonable to suggest that they could be different people.
Well an admin has deleted it and it's been recreated so feel free to take it to AFD. Thanks for talkback template :). Regards, Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 14:57, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It was deleted under the rationale that I originally tagged it - G11. The evidence is overwhelming. -Cntras (talk) 15:05, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I agree with you that it qualifies for G11. But it's back there if you want to take it to AFD. Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated.
The point is that if the administrator thought that it was indeed a different person then he/she wouldn't have bypassed the PROD to speedy the article-Cntras (talk) 15:11, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, but it was deleted moments after the PROD, but it doesn't really matter all that much. Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 15:23, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

What is with the speedy deletion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ebram72 (talkcontribs) 02:23, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ebram. Your article was deleted because it did not meet the guidelines for inclusion. Specifically, the problem is that it was written in an overtly promotional manner. If you want to learn more about the appropriate style of writing you could take a look at WP:YFA and WP:PROMO. -CTS talk 04:27, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ECDL Foundation

[edit]

Hello I wish to find out exactly why this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/ECDL_Foundation is being rejected as it appears to me as being unbiased , neutral and well sourced. Please give an example of why it reads like an advertisement as you say.

Thanks, ecdl. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ecdl (talkcontribs) 10:28, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ECDL. I declined your initial submission because it seems to read more like press release or a general prospectus of the organisation rather than a neutral encyclopaedic article. The general tone of the article is promotional in nature. I would encourage you to read WP:PROMO, and WP:YFA before attempting to address the above issues. Also I've noticed that you may have a conflict of interest as it appears that you are representing the organisation in question. -CTS talk 10:43, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cntras. I appreciate your feedback. I will add additional information such as an article that was published in the miami herald. It may take some time as I am new to this process. Please note that I have read through the guidelines and am doing my best to comply. My main purpose for doing this is the following. Ono is to help spread the word and show the world that art can heal and the other is to help alleviate the pain and suffering of the masses by showing them cost effective ways to survive and save our environment at the same time. Therefore, there is no "puffery" in my bio. I am self effacing and do not have an ego. Through bridging humanity I am starting to submit proposals for humanitarian projects. By the way, bridging humanity is strictly a volunteer based non profit. All money raised goes to support the less fortunate and is not used for salaries, administrative or operating costs. This bio is not meant to raise money. It is meant to help share information with people who may want to learn more about what I am doing when fact finding is required. I wanted you to know this so you can further help me to streamline this project. Lastly, you may want to check my website www.bridging-humanity.org so you can have a better understanding what we do. Please feel free to let me know what other information would be useful to strengthen the sources section. Thank you Cntras! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tinacornely (talkcontribs) 14:02, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Loaded Boards

[edit]

Hello Cntras. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Loaded Boards, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Credible claim invalidates CSD A7. I have changed it to PROD as notability is still in question. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 16:05, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hm I noticed that part, but I don't consider it to be a credible claim of significance. We'll see what happens with the PROD. -CTS talk 23:25, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message

[edit]

Indeed, it was very helpful. I added a cite that includes a link to a miami herald article that included Death by a Thousand Cuts on the cover. I have a scanned copy of the article which includes a picture of me next to the sculpture. I am not sure if this scan can be included (can it?). I have weighed in on some of the comments you made and was tempted to remove the section about the art piece altogether. But then I realized the article would appear weak and uninteresting. I suppose I could add cites on other philanthropic projects I have done over the years. There's the Art in Empty Spaces Exhibition I did to help fill empty store fronts in downtown Miami during art basel miami beach. Nothing in it for me other than trying to help my city and fellow struggling artists. This exhibition was picked up by the Art Road Show and they created video footage which could be added via youtube. There's another artist I helped do a monumental wall mural that ended up getting us front page coverage in the herald and TV coverage as well on WLRN. I want you to understand that I am a self effacing person and I don't usually share this information so candidly. All the charity work I do to help others is about the people I help and not me. Having said that, my projects end up getting picked up by the media. In the end all I am trying to do is show the people who are interesting in helping me with Bridging Humanity to have a better understanding of my character. May I ask your thoughts about adding the above or should I just give up? Please let me know your honest thoughts and opinions as I value you them. Thank Cntras. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tinacornely (talkcontribs) 01:42, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much Cntras! I like the changes and uploaded the article. Please take a look as I added important relevant information. I am glad you suggested I not give up. It is a gradual process. Your tips and changes are insightful and very helpful. Am going to refine some more. Thanks again! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tinacornely (talkcontribs) 14:02, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
