Teahouse host - belated welcome
[edit]Thank you for volunteering as a Host at the Teahouse. Wikipedia is a community of people working together to make knowledge free. You are an important part of that effort! By joining as a Host, and by following our expectations, you are helping new users to get started here at Wikipedia, and aiding more experienced users who just have a question about how something works. We appreciate your willingness to help!
Here are some links you may find helpful as a Host:
- Useful scripts you can install to make responding easier,
- templates to use and, of course:
- the question forum itself.
I notice that you added yourself to our 'host' list some while ago, but haven't had a chance to help out much yet. That's fine. But be aware that we do remove inactive hosts from time to time.
- Hello Nick Moyes, I do usually go to the Teahouse when I remember to, which is not as often as I should have done. I've added a link to the teahouse on my dashboard on simplewiki (which I visit frequently) which should remind me to go more. Thanks! --Ferien (talk) 09:41, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Unless you are referring to some interim draft save that was not published, I am confused by your comment. The last update (Siberian intervention [rescue Czechoslovak Legions], 1918–1922) I made was to add the single word "had" to the verb "become" to indicate the pluperfect tense.

- Oh, combined with the slight adjustments of the <ref> markup I thought that was a test edit so I reverted it. Apologies for the misunderstanding. --Ferien (talk) 20:05, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

[edit]it is a Scam Company and there are talking money from people's by shareing that there are true company by share wiki links to candidates.. Plz do investigation and take action on this page. Praneeth999 (talk) 09:56, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hello there Praneeth999. If you are going to add anything about the company being a scam into the article then it needs to have been presented in reliable sources and you need to add a part about it into the article. Adding "scam" into the short description with pretty much no explanation is not helpful. The Wikipedia article isn't endorsing the company in the case it is a scam, so why do you need to tell everyone reading it it is a scam? The article even says the company appear to have shut down. --Ferien (talk) 09:59, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Why aren't you letting me update the truth about this shipping company, the truth about them taking lives of thousands of young sailors and then hiding/ tampering the cause of their deaths. - Hello. You have no sources or references for this so it shouldn't be in Wikipedia. And as there are no references it can be treated as your own opinion, which isn't appropriate for Wikipedia either. Thanks. --Ferien (talk) 12:08, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
Removal of the World Computer Day hyperlink to www.WorldComputerDay.org
[edit]Hi Ferien- Thanks for helping to make it correct. I have never done an edit on Wikipedia before and am a novice. However, I'd be keen to have the link to our web page added to refereneces or notes or somewhere that is permissible. Your advice is needed. I haven't yet made a wikipedia account and don't know how to do that. Thanks, Jim 100.14.108.229 (talk) 13:10, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Jim, my apologies for the relatively late reply. If a link is relevant to an article as a whole, it can be added to the External links section. I sort of remember a World Computer Day link but I feel like this was quite a while ago, so could you please tell me which page this was on? I'd be able to help a lot more and maybe I'd remember the situation some more. Thanks! --Ferien (talk) 17:24, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
Features for new users coming soon
[edit]Hello.
Although you've not yet been hugely active there, I note you're currently listed as a host at the Teahouse. So I wanted to make sure you're aware of the imminent rollout of new Growth Team Features which every new account will be getting by default. Each users will soon see a new 'Homepage' tab next to their User page. It contains two main elements which might impact on your involvement - and you'd be welcome to get involved and help out directly with one of them.
- Firstly, they will be offered a range of 'suggested edits', and encouraged to make simple improvements to pages that interest them. (Being aware of this feature would be helpful for all Teahouse hosts if you're likely to offer advice on tasks for them to start out doing.)
- There's also a 'Your impact' box to show them how many people have seen the pages they've just edited.
- Finally, each new user is randomly assigned a 'mentor' from a list of friendly, experienced editors, like yourself. If they get stuck, they can ask a question directly to them via a Your mentor box, and hopefully get a swift, friendly answer from that mentor. Currently, this feature is given to 2% of new users, but it's set to increase to around 10% in the very near future.
To spread the load on our current list of around 65 mentors, I'm reaching out to ask if you'd like to help out and sign up as one? The workload is relatively small; User Panini! reports receiving four questions a month, on average, all of which were simple ones of the type we already get at the Teahouse, whilst I've had just one in the last 3 weeks. To view a list of every question asked of all mentors over the last 14 days, click here.
If becoming a mentor and being available to help new users on their first few days here interests you - just as have done at the Teahouse in the past - then please consider signing up at Growth Team features/Mentor list. But please only do so if you are genuinely willing to be available to help. Existing users can already 'opt-in' to seeing the Newcomer Homepage features via their Preferences.
Thank you! Nick Moyes (talk) 15:13, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Nick Moyes.I think you noticed I removed myself from the host list sometime recently, I believe earlier this month if not last month because I don't help out often and when I do happen to go there questions have already been answered by someone else. This is different though, I would get talk page notifications and usually I will answer them within 24 hours so this is fine for me and I would definitely be able to help. Thanks for letting me know :) --Ferien (talk) 17:20, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- That's great - if it works for you go for it! We can't be everywhere, and all help is appreciate to help retain and help new editors. Cheers, Nick Moyes (talk) 17:25, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- If the rate of questions ever becomes too much of a burden, there will soon be a feature where you can adjust the number of new mentees (and therefore questions) you receive, ranging from low to high. Panini! • 🥪 17:47, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

How do you create a page? --LG687 (talk) 01:26, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi LG687 and welcome to Wikipedia! If you are creating an article for the first time, the article wizard is the best place to start, and your article will be reviewed through the Articles for Creation process. However, that process does have a rather large backlog so be prepared to wait some time before your article is published. Note that creating an article is one of the more difficult things to do on Wikipedia; at first, I personally found it easier to focus on minor problems and copyediting articles and then I moved onto more major parts of articles. Please let me know if you need any more help, thanks :) --Ferien (talk) 19:51, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

How to make an article --Omar0712 (talk) 23:49, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Omar0712! Welcome to Wikipedia! The article wizard is the best place to start if you are creating an article for the first time, and your article will be reviewed through the Articles for Creation process. However, this does have a large backlog so prepare to wait a while for your article to be published. Some personal advice: creating an article is definitely one of the harder things to do - fun fact, I haven't created an article yet - I find it easier to make more minor edits to articles and more recently I've moved onto more major parts of articles. Please feel free to message me if you need any more help :) Happy editing! --Ferien (talk) 10:56, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

My first edit "undone"
[edit]Hello Ferien, My name is Alan Small. I am a singer songwriter in Ontario, Canada who has performed musical shows in 2011 and 2012 in Toronto on Roncesvailles with Jowi Taylor while playing the Six String Nation guitar built by George Rizanyi. May I have my name added to the list of person who have also played the same guitar? Sincerely, Alan Small
I hoped to Guitar String Physics (talk) 21:46, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Guitar String Physics and welcome to Wikipedia. The reason I reverted your edit was because it was promotion, adding your name and a link to a photo of yourself. If you have a conflict of interest, you are strongly discouraged from editing pages about yourself or adding yourself to pages. If someone finds you are notable, they will probably add you to a list yourself. However, I will note that the edit I reverted on Singer-songwriter probably wouldn't be included even if you had your own article as there are plenty of images on there already, there are not supposed to be images of all the singer-songwriters. Your other edit will probably be reverted too, because people on lists need to have articles. There are many other things to edit here on Wikipedia though and I'm sure you can have an enjoyable time editing here. I hope you have a nice day and happy editing! Kind regards, --Ferien (talk) 21:52, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

Sir, I have forgotten, how did I do? Please explain the steps sir ~I'm the CB Thank you:) I'm the CB (talk) 05:59, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
- @I'm the CB: You can work on an article in the draft namespace. You can start a new one by going to Wikipedia:Article wizard
- -> Once you are done with editing that draft and think it meets Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, you can press "Submit your draft for review!"
- -> Your article will be reviewed, although it may take several weeks.
- -> If your draft is accepted, an AfC (Articles for Creation) reviewer will move it to article space for you. If your draft is declined, advice will be given on how to improve your draft article - although sometimes it cannot be improved, for example, if the article already exists in Wikipedia.
- -> (If your draft is declined) Once you have improved your article, you can submit it again using "Submit your draft for review!" It may be accepted or declined again.
- Feel free to let me know if you need any more help and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks :) --Ferien (talk) 22:43, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Question from Hyperpress (05:31, 12 May 2022)
[edit]Hello Friend,
I'm trying to make a wikipedia page and I'm building it in my sandbox to test things out before migrating to an actual page. I have discovered wikidata pages and read that when you make a wikipedia page, a wikidata page is generated automatically.
Is it possible to create a wikidata page that is connected to my sandbox? --Hyperpress (talk) 05:31, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Sorry, autocorrect, hello Ferien 😁 Hyperpress (talk) 05:34, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Hyperpress and welcome to Wikipedia! With Wikidata items, I wouldn't recommend connecting one or creating one to connect to your sandbox, no Wikidata item seems to exist that is connected to a sandbox so I imagine that it's not allowed. Feel free to let me know if you need any help. Thanks, :) --Ferien (talk) 17:58, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks Ferien. About footnotes, are we allowed any percentage of references back to the original source? e.g. microsoft referencing its own site? Hyperpress (talk) 05:52, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Hyperpress, this page shows you when primary sources - for example sources written by people directly involved - are appropriate. Also for pings, you can use {{u|User}} (User being user you want to ping) or {{ping|User}}. You can also press the 5th button above the text you are writing when you are using the new Reply function. There was no need to ping me here as I already get a notification as your message is on my talk page, but it doesn't give me an extra notification. Thanks, :) --Ferien (talk) 16:12, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, how do i get a better logo image? the one up on draft:runecast is a bad color scheme for a light background.
- i contacted the company, they are willing to give me a file/image to use, but not willing to release the rights. Hyperpress (talk) 17:26, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hyperpress, have you asked them whether they are willing to have the logo uploaded to Wikipedia? --Ferien (talk) 15:14, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- yes, they are willing. but the way i understand it, they must release the rights to the image...no? is there an option that allows them to upload it to wikipedia and still retain the rights? Hyperpress (talk) 16:57, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hyperpress, it depends on whether free content can be used, whether using the image would be considered fair use as well as other things. As I am not an expert on copyright, I think you would probably be better off reading this page about non-free content, as I don't want to give you incorrect information. Regards, --Ferien (talk) 16:51, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

- Hello Hanga Nghilokwa Lazarus and welcome to Wikipedia! Creating an article about yourself isn't recommended. Question from Maestro d'Musique (13:12, 30 June 2022)
[edit]Is it considered rude for someone to roll back a contribution to an article without discussing that with the contributor first? Do people do that when they simply don't understand the interest and significance of an entry? Stating that an entry of mine was "not constructive" does not at all explain the rationale for why it may not belong.
Frankly, I worry that territorialism can play a part. --Maestro d'Musique (talk) 13:12, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- Maestro d'Musique, I believe it was an inappropriate use of rollback, a tool used to revert vandalism quickly, and have also left a message of concern on Sea Cow's talk page. I gave the message its own section, I called it "Untitled" as it wasn't my message originally, but please feel free to change the section name if you feel appropriate. Please feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need any more help. Kind regards, --Ferien (talk) 15:47, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
Question from Aristhaeum on Heads of former ruling families (03:45, 26 June 2022)
[edit]How do I add a new footnote? This is my first time editing Wikipedia and I have some sources that I would like to add --Aristhaeum (talk) 03:45, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Aristhaeum, welcome to Wikipedia! I'd like to apologise for the response time, I have been busy with exams. But regarding your question... it does depend on which editor you use – whether you're editing by mobile or on computer, or editing the source of the page or looking at it visually. Looking at your edits, it seems you use mobile visual editor. Just follow these 5 steps:
- Tap the part where you would like to add the source
- Press "Cite" on the top, it has a " symbol
- You should see "Automatic", "Manual" and "Re-use". Make sure you are using "Automatic", as this is the easiest way to add sources
- Enter the URL of your source then press "Generate"
- Then review and press "Insert"
- This process should cover the type of source you are planning to add, but if not, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me again and I will do my best to help you. Kind regards, --Ferien (talk) 16:00, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
Question from Kiaorannie (22:20, 26 June 2022)
[edit]Kia ora Ferien,
I work for a company that generates power and used to sell power to retail customers. In May 2022 we sold our retail customer base and our brand name and so we had to rename our company. I have adjusted the information on our company's page to reflect the change, but I am unable to change the title of the page. Would you be able to help me do this?
The company was called Trustpower and is now called Manawa Energy and our ticker code on the NZX has changed from TPW to MNW
This page explains the change https://www.manawaenergy.co.nz/about-us
The brand name Trustpower still exists but they are no longer a part of our business and are now a subsidiary of Mercury Energy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Energy --Kiaorannie (talk) 22:20, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Kiaorannie, welcome to Wikipedia! I do not have much time to help you directly at the moment, but as you have a conflict of interest, I would highly suggest going to the talk page of the article and adding a new section with the changes you want to make, and make sure to add the text
{{request edit}}
. The requested edits backlog is very high, currently standing at 204 requests. However, I will become more available this time next week and should be able to look at the situation closer if no-one else has done so by then. If you need any more help, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will respond as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and apologies for any inconvenience. [edit]Hi Ferien! I’m excited in joining Wikipedia as a volunteer editor! I’m a Turkish-American based in Ohio in my early 20’s currently attending graduate school. I hope to be a great contributor to Wikipedia. My ultimate goal in joining is to expand on the Turkish side of Wikipedia, Vikipedi, as I felt disheartened at the lack of information and articles. I know I have got a ways to go, but I am determined with my mission. I just wanted to send a message saying hi and introduce myself! :) --SayınSeyirciler (talk) 12:20, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hello SayınSeyirciler and welcome to Wikipedia! Apologies for my relatively late reply. I hope you enjoy your time here and best of luck working on Turkish Wikipedia. I personally work a lot on a smaller Wikipedia, Simple English Wikipedia, and on smaller wikis particularly, there is so much to do and it's great fun to help expand the project. Please feel free to let me know if you need any assistance and I will be happy to help you, and maybe I will get back to you a little sooner next time :) Kind regards, --Ferien (talk) 21:34, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, This is my first time and I am trying to start the biography of someone who is not mentioned on Wikipedia. How do I start? Thank you --Nestoribrahim (talk) 12:02, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Nestoribrahim and welcome to Wikipedia! If you are creating an article for the first time, the article wizard is the best place to start. Your article will be reviewed through the Articles for Creation process. However, this does have a large backlog so you will have to wait a while for your article to be published. I've found that creating an article is definitely one of the harder things to do - I personally haven't created an article on this Wikipedia yet. I find it easier to make more minor edits to articles and more recently, I've moved onto more major parts of articles. Please message me if you need any more help and happy editing! :) --Ferien (talk) 13:30, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

AI Box edits
[edit]Hey there! Thank you for not being obnoxious in your comment reverting my earlier edit. When I followed your diff link what I saw appeared to include 2 edits, one of which was not mine.
I made/make this edit because the previous wording is just not very good grammar and is not very clear, e.g. _What_ was inconceivable? It makes little sense to characterize something that one is discussing as "inconceivable". What, instead, is discussed by that section of the article is a particular escape which is (only) "inconceivable" for humans who do not have knowledge of the particular physics being exploited.
It is much clearer to use phrasing which specifically states that the problem is with humans being unable to anticipate/precisely said escape mechanism _with_ _sufficient_ _detail/precision_ to be able to block it. Further, as with any security discussion, it is valuable to call out that often vulnerabilities are prevented by dumb luck rather than foreknowledge or design.
My latest edit is motivated accordingly.

- Hey there. With that edit, I was reverting based on the top removal, which I don't think you intended to do. I have no problem with the latest edit, and looking back on the first edit, I probably should have done a partial revert so you wouldn't have to go back and edit the page, apologies about that. - Hello Goodwallyouthcouncil and welcome to Wikipedia! As Deepfriedokra says, you can use articles for creation to create articles and to edit articles, just click the edit button. On a few pages, you may not be able to edit, as they are protected - you should be able to edit "semi-protected" articles, the ones with the grey padlock, in 2 days. I didn't see the draft you had made when it was up, and I am not an admin here so I can't see it now it is deleted and therefore don't know how it is eligible for deletion myself. You can ask Jimfbleak for more information about the deletion, by sending him a message on his talk page. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 07:40, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

Question from JordanianBird (14:33, 5 September 2022)
[edit]Hello Ferien! I'm no way new to Wikipedia in of itself, but I am new to the user space and some ways editing. I created this account so my IP wouldn't show when I fix typos and such on articles, and a few minutes ago I fixed a few links on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Jordanians but this is before I just registered. Is there any way to assort that credit to myself now that I have an account or is it lost? Thanks! --JordanianBird (talk) 14:33, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hey JordanianBird, sorry for the fairly late reply. I don't think so, as Wikipedia:Copyrights says
However, you can never retract or alter the license for copies of materials that you place here
Feel free to let me know if you need any more help. Thanks! :) --Ferien (talk) 20:53, 9 September 2022 (UTC)

Question from Cadenpeachey (20:58, 20 September 2022)
[edit]is it possible for a dark mode --Cadenpeachey (talk) 20:58, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Cadenpeachey and welcome to Wikipedia! Yes, you can enable dark mode on Wikipedia. This can be done by going to your gadget settings here and in the appearance section, you'll find "Dark mode toggle: Enable a toggle for using a light text on dark background color scheme". Enable this then click save. Then, go to any other page. In the top right hand corner, "Dark mode" should be one of the links up there. Simply press this and you'll get dark mode, then you can press "Light mode" in the same location to go back to "normal". Note that this only works on desktop, not on mobile. Let me know if you need any more assistance and I will be happy to help. Thanks :) --Ferien (talk) 21:34, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
RfA
[edit]Have you thought of running at RfA? Hawkeye7 (discuss) 22:48, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Hawkeye7, thanks for the message. I don't want to right now, but perhaps in the future. It's safe to say the way RfA is here is very different to other projects. I find the most recent RfA in particular very worrying, with people opposing because the candidate has only been editing for 18 months, has a "worrying lack of experience in actually editing the encyclopedia" (despite writing 2 GAs!), was "hat collecting" (despite the "admin hat" being their first) and they were even being accused of a sock at the RfA, but no SPI report was filed... Even if I wanted to RfA right now, I wouldn't because the current enwiki RfA environment is unnecessarily unwelcoming to the candidate and I think RfA as a whole needs huge improvements. --Ferien (talk) 13:10, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- I regret that I agree with you on this assessment. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 19:58, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- I really feel for people here who are relatively new. There's simply no way I would want to face the abusive hammering of an RFA these days - in 2005 when I did it, things were just different. Kindness is underrated, and "Assume Good Faith" should apply to our core contributors, not just newbies and maybies. Antandrus (talk) 20:29, 21 September 2022 (UTC)

Able to flag an IP address?
[edit]Hi! I finally made an account after receiving new messages on the non-registered user IP talk page about vandalism. I work at a school where students will be on the same network / share IP with many, many other users and devices. Is there a way to flag an IP without necessarily limiting edit access? I'd hate for students to lose the ability to edit if it's something they're genuinely interested in learning, but also would love to be able to give community members a heads up about edits coming from the IP. Either way, thanks for making Wikipedia a great place!

Hi Ferin, i was reading an article on animal slaughter (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_slaughter). Confusion that under the chapter "Islam Law" it mentions Quran. But as far as I know it does not prescribe any method of slaughter. There is a wide spread practice of Qurbani but that is also not in Quran. At best it is a cultural practice. Quran only says eat pure and good food and mentions prohibition as in your article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhabihah. --WIKI2238 (talk) 07:18, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

- Hi Horatio51 and welcome to Wikipedia! Apologies about the late response. The edit you make is published immediately to the page, unless you have made an edit to a pending changes article. If you made an edit to a pending changes article, then that change will have to be reviewed before it is published to the page. When you've reached 10 edits, edits you make to pending changes articles don't have to be reviewed. Template:Uw-copyright-new
[edit]Your edits at Template:Uw-copyright-new/body (especially this one) were unnecessary, and broke the sandbox functionality previously present. You identified a legitimate problem with a duplicate word ("page"), but since the subtemplate you altered is not used by the main template (Template:Uw-copyright-new) at all, none of your changes actually had any effect on the live template; the only thing they did was break the sandbox testing (since repaired). In the future, please do not make changes to templates without testing them on the /testcases page, to make sure the fix you intend is actually present, and in general, just be more cautious editing templates and subtemplates, if you're not sure what effect it has, most especially when you remove existing parser conditional code, as occurred in this edit. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 23:09, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Mathglot, that was supposed to be a quick fix to the problem with the typo to figure out what was going wrong. I copied what was the current version to the sandbox as it looked almost identical already and it was a sandbox hence I thought it was for testing, then I copied it to the main page. I don't go around editing templates on enwiki often, seeing as they are generally more complicated and scary than on my homewiki and it was just supposed to be a quick simple fix for a fairly major issue I noticed, I didn't intend to break anything on your sandbox so apologies about that. --Ferien (talk) 23:20, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- I understand; I figured that was it (and it's not 'my' sandbox, btw; it's the Template's sandbox). As a rule of thumb, when you're dealing with code there is no such thing as a "quick fix"; every fix can break something. The good news in this case, was that since you didn't actually change the live template (although I think you intended to, in order to fix the real problem you found with duplicate "page"), nothing actually broke in the live template, so the damage was limited to the sandbox. No worries, I think you get the point, and will be more cautious going forward. Mathglot (talk) 23:25, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

Because I uploaded many svg college logo to wiki commons but almost all of them were deleted for copyright violation as they were not properly licenced, according to them. Now, I have seen logo of various universities like Amity University, noida (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Amity_University_logo.png#mw-jump-to-license) tagged as 'Fair Use'

Question from Frontlinestrat (10:28, 19 December 2022)
[edit]Good day Ferien. My name is Nosipo. I would like to create a new biography page for a client of mine. How do I start creating one? --Frontlinestrat (talk) 10:28, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Frontlinestrat and welcome to Wikipedia! You are strongly discouraged from editing where you have a conflict of interest. However, if you do choose to edit anyway, you will need to follow the steps on WP:PAID. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 23:24, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
Question from AbhishekDixit638 (15:29, 23 December 2022)
[edit]Hello! I'm new to wikipedia as an editor and it has assigned you as my mentor, I thought that it'd be unnecessary and prefer to not disturb you but, I need to ask whether there is a way to report editors who provide biased information causing social toxicity.
Can i,as an editor report other editors? --AbhishekDixit638 (talk) 15:29, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) AbhishekDixit638, there are a number of noticeboards and other avenues for dispute resolution and dealing with behavioral issues. If you can provide an example of the issue you're dealing with it would be much easier to send you in the right direction. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:29, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
[edit]We are currently running a study to evaluate the effectiveness of alternative algorithms for providing personalized task recommendations through SuggestBot. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information in the consent information sheet. The study is scheduled to end on Monday, January 9, 2023. Please note this is a bit later than the initial estimate specified in the consent information sheet.
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information. For more information about the columns and categories, please consult the documentation and please get in touch on SuggestBot's talk page with any questions you might have.
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly; your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. -- SuggestBot (talk) 23:42, 25 December 2022 (UTC)
Joining on a whim and a donation.
[edit]So... joined on a whim. After donating, I saw the link to login. I recently re-activated my slashdot login. I generally hate logging into things --- it's so utterly useless, but I suppose wikipedia is a bit different. I keep a copy of wikipedia on local media in case of the Zombie apocalypse. Too much share? Well... even though I don't have much, I've decided to donate to a few things. Timeghost and Wikipedia are now two.
So, what's my thinking? I haven't had the itch to edit something on Wikipedia. I'm more likely to be spell checked than to spell check. My barest and most obvious thinking was that if I was a member with some history and I identified something that is important to me, I'd have more success than without some org history.
Urm... I'm Canadian, I run a small tech business, I'd like to make a game in C++ and lately I've been into D&D and 3D printing stuff --- on a 3D printer I made from scratch.
I have a fairly addictive personality, so if you have some tasks to fob off on me ... I don't have too much occupying my time between now and new years besides some video games.
(oh, and ZBeeble is the username a university might assign Zaphod Beeblebrox in the early 90's ... two heads are better than one.)
ZBeeble (talk) 20:14, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi ZBeeble and welcome to Wikipedia! As of areas you can help out, there are a load of tasks you can do at the task center. I wouldn't create a new article yet, and I'd say that's one of the more difficult areas of editing here. I am fairly active in "anti-vandalism" here, reverting bad edits that are made to pages... but that is just one of the tasks on the page. It all depends on what looks more right for you. If you need any more help, do let me know. Thanks :) --Ferien (talk) 17:31, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
