Question from Tyri Hansen (23:47, 26 December 2023)
Hey, Ferien: My real name is Per Flaatten; I have logged in under a pen name, namely Tyri Hansen, which is completely fictitious; Tyrihans is the protagonist of a Norwegian a folktale of the same name. Tyrihans is basically, a male Cinderella, but the story is not as romantic as Cinderella's; rather, it's more of a comic mishap kind of thing. His reward, however, is the princess and half of the kingdom. Anyway, I do not expect you to solve my problem, but how can I get help, since i can't even login. I have not found a category of communication, nor of role that can help, except for the name of the mentor (You!) assigned to my fake name. I am Norwegian, but also fluent in English and French, I have a university degree and I'm 78 and retired. In advance, thank you for ?any? help you may provide.
Per PS It's too late yo wish you a Merry Christmas, but a Happy New Year is still appropriate. --Tyri Hansen (talk) 23:47, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Tyri Hansen, welcome! You messaged this to me on your account, as your first edit to Wikipedia, to my talk page, so you should be logged in? Happy new year to you too, and apologies for my somewhat late response. --Ferien (talk) 14:04, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from RajuGosling (07:48, 8 January 2024)
Hello,
I would like to understand why I cannot upload an image of a public figure I found on the internet to enhance their page. Is there a way to use this image under the fair use policy?
Thanks --RajuGosling (talk) 07:48, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi RajuGosling, welcome to Wikipedia. Most images you will find of public figures on the internet will be copyrighted and therefore cannot be uploaded here. Generally, you should only upload your own work. However, non-free content can be used under certain conditions, that can be seen at Wikipedia:Non-free content#Policy 2. If you have any other questions, feel free to send me a message. Thanks! --Ferien (talk) 16:17, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

From Simple English wiki
Hi Ferien! I am copying and pasting the same message added to your talk page in Simple English wikipedia here too. The reason is that there are lots of related templates, found in Regular English wikipedia but lacking in Simple English wikipedia, which affect the appearance of the script in the desktop screen. Could you please check the same following fonts? Recently, I noticed a template that creates a difference between the appearance of Meitei script in desktop screen of people living outside Indian subcontinent. Could you please tell me which of the following are visible properly in your computer screen?
(1) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - plainly written without the template
(2) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written without the template but with double brackets
(3) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template, without double brackets, as Mtei
(4) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template as well as double brackets, as Mtei
(5) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template, with double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", but with correct Meitei script code "Mtei", as Mtei
(6) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template as well as double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", but with correct Meitei script code "Mtei", as Mtei
(7) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template without double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", as well as wrong Meitei script code "mtei", as mtei
(8) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template as well as double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", as well as wrong Meitei script code "mtei", as mtei

Question from Chesca1911 on Lynne Marta (15:11, 17 January 2024)
In Lynne Marta’s wikipedia it’s says she was an earwitness to Rebecca Shaffers death. Should it say eyewitness? --Chesca1911 (talk) 15:11, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- I spelled Schaffer wrong Chesca1911 (talk) 15:15, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Chesca1911: welcome to Wikipedia! There is a difference between earwitness and eyewitness. If the sources say she was an eyewitness to her death then yes it should be changed, but if it is indeed earwitness then it should stay as it is, as that is what the sources say. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 19:53, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from Egglions (04:48, 24 February 2024)
Hi there, I am VERY new to all of this so please go easy on me! This is going to sound insane, but how would I format a date of birth when the month and day of birth is known, but the actual year is uncertain? The individual I'm working on was born on either November 14th, 1868 OR November 14th, 1875. My sources are conflicting, unfortunately. His marriage certificate states Nov. 14th, 1868, meanwhile his death certificate states Nov. 14th, 1875. I am not able to discern which of these years is actually correct. Would one simply exclude the month and day in favor of putting 1868-1875, or is there a better way to go about this to preserve his birth month/day?
Thank you in advance for the help! --Egglions (talk) 04:48, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Egglions, welcome to Wikipedia and apologies for my slow response. I would format it as
November 14, 1868 or 1875
, similar to how it is done in Kim Jong Un, using a note to state the different sources showing different things. Let me know if you have any other questions or need any more help. Thanks! :) --Ferien (talk) 20:55, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Question from Sdcman29 (12:58, 3 March 2024)
What do you think are the qualifications that would prompt someone to edit? Is it simply a Google search? Or a local tells you something different.
-Stanton --Sdcman29 (talk) 12:58, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Sdcman29, welcome to Wikipedia! You don't need any qualifications to edit articles, you just need to provide sources to prove what you've added is correct and ensure it is written from a neutral point of view. --Ferien (talk) 15:22, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
Question from Laka boys music promo (09:12, 9 March 2024)
How do I upload my music on internet --Laka boys music promo (talk) 09:12, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Laka boys music promo: Hi there, welcome to Wikipedia. Unfortunately, this is not the platform to upload your music too. You may want to consider using something like SoundCloud. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 15:23, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
Question from Dr.RobertCompton (01:06, 17 March 2024)
I created a page for Riverwalk Academy, but I wasn't sure how to add citations. I added links to internal and external cites, but wasn't sure if there was additional citing/references that I needed to include. --Dr.RobertCompton (talk) 01:06, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Dr.RobertCompton, welcome to Wikipedia. Citations are usually added with templates like cite web that makes citations appear properly. Articles should also have sources from secondary sources to prove their notability. Also, editors are strongly discouraged from editing/creating articles on topics they have connections to, per our conflict of interest guideline. Please let me know if you need any more help. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 15:27, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Question from Caaskoe (16:23, 20 March 2024)
Hello, for a class project, I'm required to make 15 edits to topics related to my research. None of my edits are being accepted, and I am at a loss for how to get anything accepted. I have tried to make sure my edits do not have a bias and use reliable sources. I have even tried to simplify my edits in the hope that some would be accepted, but are all immediately reverted by the same user. --Caaskoe (talk) 16:24, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Casskoe, I think MrOllie has explained to you why he has reverted your edits, but if you need any further clarification, feel free to ask. --Ferien (talk) 18:36, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

Question from TakuyaYagami (20:10, 20 March 2024)
Hi, I wanted to ask something. I have an article that I want to upload but when I go to create it it says that it has been deleted a number of times. The article is just a battle I wanted to add. Shall I upload it anyway or not? --TakuyaYagami (talk) 20:10, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hello TakuyaYagami, it depends on the reason for deletion of the article you're attempting to create. Could you provide me with more detail please? --Ferien (talk) 18:37, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I just checked, and it got deleted twice due to G5 Twice. Can i still try to make an article on it or not? I don't want to get in any trouble. Thanks. TakuyaYagami (talk) 19:01, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
- TakuyaYagami, G5 applies for articles that were created by a user evading their ban or block. As long as this is your first account, and you weren't told to create this article by another editor, you are probably alright to create it, however it needs to meet notability guidelines. --Ferien (talk) 20:14, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi, is it ok if I create an article about a fictional character from a novel/anime? --TakuyaYagami (talk) 18:29, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

Question from Kaede118 (07:09, 5 April 2024)
Hi Ferien! I'm having some trouble with a page I'm trying to update about philosopher Gustaf Arrhenius. I don't understand whether the draft is published or under review. Previously there was a big yellow notice that said something like "This draft is under review, please be patient" but now there is no such message, but the page is still titled "Draft:Gustaf Arrhenius". --Kaede118 (talk) 07:09, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Kaede118! Someone else used content translation to convert an article about the same person into a draft, which replaced what you had already written, including the Articles for Creation templates. I've reverted back to the version that was there before. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 20:21, 6 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from CandleWickipedia (18:50, 16 April 2024)
Good afternoon, Ferien. Does Topper Guild qualify for a Wikipedia article to be written on him? --CandleWickipedia (talk) 18:50, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- Good evening CandleWickipedia, in my opinion, no, as there is not significant coverage in reliable, independent sources, per the general notability guideline. He also doesn't meet WP:ENT, the notability guideline for entertainers. You may find this page helpful for determining whether YouTubers meet our notability guidelines. It focuses on the notability guidelines that surround YouTubers, often "GNG" (General Notability Guideline) and "ENT" as I have already mentioned, and also gives an ongoing tally of Article for Deletion discussions on YouTuber articles, whether they resulted in keep/delete, the year, subscriber counts etc. Let me know if that helps, and if you have any more questions. Thanks :) --Ferien (talk) 21:18, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from Esteroinfo (20:51, 17 April 2024)
I would like to add images to several different Wiki page. I have added some images already to the wiki commons page but when I add the provided provided link text to the wiki page the image appear inside a sub table within the right hand image table. I am familiar with HTML but I can't figure out how to fix this. --Esteroinfo (talk) 20:51, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Esteroinfo, welcome to Wikipedia! Could you provide me with a link so I could look further? --Ferien (talk) 21:41, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, all 4 photos should appear above the single photo that is currently on the Estero, Florida Wiki page. I plan on adding a few more photos to that page (such as of the Hertz Arena which is in Estero as well as civic parks, as well as to the wiki pages of the various other South West Florida cities and towns once I learn how it is done. Thanks for your help.
- Esteroinfo (talk) 02:02, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
- Esteroinfo, hi, we don't usually format images like that in infoboxes. Instead multiple image is used to arrange the images automatically. Let me know how using that works, and if you need more help, feel free to let me know! --Ferien (talk) 15:53, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from The Happy Potter (05:08, 30 May 2024)
Hi, firstly I’m new at this! I don’t have a lot of time so I need to put links a such in?
The bungaroosh article was previous so inaccurate it was looked at as pure fiction.
The leading Sussex expert not on his 70,s is Neil England .
He actually knew the previous author of the wrong info posted , he was a planning officer with zero knowledge of bungaroosh.
I have know Neil England , where most of the revised info comes from, for thirty five year and he is highly respected in Brighton Hove and the coastal Sussex areas. He wrote a method to restor the banquet hall in the Royal Pavillion and was asked to repair it all. He has worked on hundreds of listed G1 and G2 buildings and is the go to consultant for bungaroosh.
The previous article was fantasy. Trains arrived in 1841 in Brighton and the regency period and the extensive use of multi Storey bungaroosh in 1811….. we laughed so much as ther were no old railway sleeper as there was no railway!
Please can you stop this other chap from constantly re editing the page putting back the nonsense? Maybe he is the author we can’t say but in the interests of Wikipedia it must be the truth! Thank you so much, I look forward to hearing from you. Steve --The Happy Potter (talk) 05:08, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from Wikiology101 (20:14, 13 May 2024)
Hi! I've seen a lot of pages that Wikipedia said were supposedly "written like an advertisement", and I kind of see the advertising tone, but I have no idea how to help fix the tone. Can you give me some general tips on this? --Wikiology101 (talk) 20:14, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

If you're looking to fix the tone of these articles, you need to ensure it doesn't fall under these five issues. I hope this helps, please let me know if you need any more help and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can. --Ferien (talk) 17:16, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Question from Rcaj (03:58, 21 May 2024)
Como atualizar a foto? --Rcaj (talk) 03:58, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Rcaj, I'm afraid my Spanish skills aren't good enough to the extent I can respond to this message in Spanish. Photos can be updated by finding the name of a file you want to replace the existing image with, for example let's use this file File:Greggs, King Street, Hammersmith 04.jpg. Simply replace the name of the old file to replace with the new file. For example:
-
-
- appears as shown on the right. I hope this helps, please ask if you need any more help. Thanks! --Ferien (talk) 17:22, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from The Happy Potter (01:11, 2 June 2024)
Hi! I’m trying to get real facts uploaded about Bungaroosh but I’m being blocked by two senior members.
Can you help? The references actual quote Neil Englands article re bungaroosh and the IHBC refer to Neil as an expert in bungaroosh.
Is this Wikipedia just a club for bored people with no interest in actual facts? Just keeping their status high? I’m saddened by this bullying based on no facts. People in Sussex are paying triple the building insurance rates if they live in a bungaroosh building as the insurance companies quote Wikipedia! Please jump in an help me. Steve --The Happy Potter (talk) 01:11, 2 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from Crazypandapug (05:13, 4 June 2024)
Hello!, I made this account due to an error in this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_states_of_NATO , in which an image depicting the map of NATO European members is wrong, how could I edit the image to fix that? --Crazypandapug (talk) 05:13, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Crazypandapug, welcome! I'm not sure what the error is there, however c:File:NATO members (blue).svg is available on commons for you to view. You can edit the file by downloading it, using Inkscape then uploading the new version to the same file name using the Upload Wizard. If you need any more help, feel free to ask, thanks! --Ferien (talk) 18:36, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you!, the swedish islands of Gotland, Olland and the danish island of Bornholm are a different color of blue (Members Action Plan) compared to their respective countries (Current members) on the map of only European members, thank you so much! Crazypandapug (talk) 05:47, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
Question from Meekpanda (23:23, 22 May 2024)
Hello Ferien -
I have encountered a problem with one of the references for the article I am creating, which is currently in my sandbox. I would like to include a piece from the Daily Telegraph (UK), 26 February 1988, Kitson, Robert, "Dolman leads old boys' tour." Unable to access it via Wikipedia or online, I visited the NY Public Library today, and they kindly emailed me a link. Unfortunately, this is via a proxy (Gale), requiring me to log in via my NYPL credentials, and I can't see how I can include the item. The link is: https://go-gale-com.i.ezproxy.nypl.org/ps/i.do?p=TGRH&u=nypl&id=GALE%7CIO0702455018&v=2.1&it=r&sid=bookmark-TGRH&asid=9cb0b329.
I do have an image of the story, but I can't see that there's any way of adding it as a reference if I save it as (say) a jpg.
I do hope you may be able to advise me here. Many thanks. --Meekpanda (talk) 23:23, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Meekpanda, do accept my apology for my late reply here, I have been taking a break lately as I have had other real-world commitments to focus on. I also have access to Gale through the The Wikipedia Library, as well as NewspaperArchive, but I was unable to find the article on both databases. If you login using the link you've used above, does the URL remain the same? Adding a paywalled link is ok, though it should link directly to the article. You can use Template:Cite news for any article regardless of URL, but I'm not sure this fits into the easy cases listed there and may be quite difficult to do manually. Let me know if you get a different URL for when you login, and I think we may be able to make a citation out of that. Sorry again for the late response. --Ferien (talk) 17:47, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Ferien - Thank you so much for following up on my query - very much appreciated! In the interim I took out what purported to be an all-access digital subscription to the Telegraph, but found that historical articles were not included. I am pleased to report that my article on Edward Dolman has now been published, but I would still like to include the citation, if you can guide me as to how to do so correctly.
- ... This is the link that the NY Public Library provided:
- ... Once I had logged into the NYPL, the link changed as below, and Gale's reference was appended:
- Kitson, Robert. "Dolman leads old boys’ tour." Daily Telegraph, 26 Feb. 1988, p. 30. The Telegraph Historical Archive, link.gale.com/apps/doc/IO0702455018/TGRH?u=nypl&sid=bookmark-TGRH&xid=9cb0b329. Accessed 22 May 2024.
- Gale Document Number:GALE|IO0702455018
- Thanks once again. Meekpanda (talk) 21:08, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from Hamdan Turji (06:21, 11 June 2024)
Hi, I did an edit and a user deleted my edit which I see as valid, I sent him a message asking for a reason, but he do not seem to care responding. Could you help me understand what I did wrong (if I am wrong) please, here is my message (topic : Nigerian Americans) :
@Magnolia677
Hi I justified my replacing of this phrase : [...]Most of the people who were stolen from Nigeria were likely to have been Igbo or Yoruba. Other ethnic groups such as the Fula and Edo peoples were also captured and transported to the colonies in the New World.[...]
by saying that : When citing other ethnic groups from Nigeria, mentioning the Hausas is more relevant than mentioning the Fulanis. The Hausas constitute the largest ethnic group in Nigeria, accounting for 30% of the population. Specifically, they make up 71 million out of the total 230 million citizens. In contrast, the Fulanis represent less than 6% of the population.
and you told me : This is not supported by the source cited
I do not understand, you want me to put a source for the Hausa population in Nigeria even though it is common knowledge ? I want to understand what I need to do when I edit I am new, thank you for your help. Hamdan Turji --Hamdan Turji (talk) 06:21, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

Hello How to find out mistake from an article. --Aditya Bijarniya (talk) 15:24, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

- Aditya Bijarniya, ah. That makes more sense. Please see Wikipedia:Controlling search engine indexing for a table that explains this. If you have a Mainspace article that is patrolled and/or has existed for more than 90 days, it will show up on search engines. If neither of those conditions are true, it will not show up. Additionally, if your article is in Draft: space, it will not show up in search engines. I hope this helps, feel free to ask if you need anything else. Mentorship
Hi Ferien,
My homepage says you're my mentor. I'm not really sure how to go about this, nor do I have any specific question, but I'd greatly appreciate any help or advice.
Currently, I mostly patrol (unofficially) Special:NewPages, and I make minor edits to articles I come across naturally. I'd love to make some more substantial/normative contributions to the mainspace, though. Do you have any advice or guidance on that?
Thanks, --u9000 (they/them • talk) 16:46, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi u9000, apologies for the late response. When making changes, I'd just consider the guidelines we have. Make sure that all your edits are sourced and come from a neutral point of view, and be bold with what you do. The worst case scenario is someone reverts your edit. If you need any more help, please let me know. Thanks :) --Ferien (talk) 13:49, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

How do I create a citation? --Katie200877 (talk) 22:17, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Katie200877, welcome to Wikipedia. The easiest way to create a citation is by going to visual editor, and pressing "Cite" in the toolbar. You can then enter in a web address and it will (usually) create the citation for you. If you have any further questions, or your reference is a bit more complicated than that, feel free to ask! --Ferien (talk) 13:39, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

I made changes to the following site, because it was extremely difficult to follow. Please let me know if this was inappropriate or not. I know with my disability and my experience in engineering and technical writing that the site was difficult to follow and I needed to split the verbiage up in away that lend to efficient reading and portrayal of the information while consistent with the intent of the original content.

In this case I am looking for references for the wikipedia page on Paqueta island. Thanks --Leaves of grass again (talk) 09:07, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Leaves of grass again, welcome to Wikipedia. To answer your question, yes, references can be used from different languages. Hello. I would like to update the stats for an infobox using the current year's fact sheet. Would I create a new citation since the reference for the fact sheet was made in 2020? Or would I make a note on the existing reference that the new information was retrieved this year? --CMC Data Editor (talk) 20:14, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- MarianMinerCMC, hi, welcome to Wikipedia! Apologies for the fairly slow response, I have not been keeping up with the responses on this talk page properly over the last few months and I am trying to resolve this. I would use a new citation to make sure all the variables in the citation template are correct. You can use the Reference tool in the Visual editor to speed up the process and create a reference automatically. Feel free to ask if you need any more help. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 21:10, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
Question from UMAR FARUK ALI (12:06, 22 August 2024)
How do I publish my article for the world to see? --UMAR FARUK ALI (talk) 12:06, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi UMAR FARUK ALI, welcome to Wikipedia. Apologies for the fairly slow response, I have not been keeping up with the responses on this talk page properly over the last few months and I am trying to resolve this. Firstly, you need to follow the article wizard, creating a new draft through the "articles for creation" process. Once you are finished, you can submit your draft for review. Someone will then review it and publish it into mainspace/as an article, if it meets Wikipedia guidelines. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 21:12, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from Cfs1949 (15:03, 25 August 2024)
Hello Ferrin (sorry that I did not make a note of how to spell your name, now I am in this text box and cannot see it, spelled phonetically based on how it sounded when I sounded it out), I am an American physician with a long history of work in the fairly rare field of American Social Medicine. I am fully trained and board certified in Family Medicine (like U.K. General Practice), Geriatrics, and Emergency Medicine. I took a fellowship in Social Medicine but America has no Social Medicine board certification organization. I would like to edit the Wikipedia article on "social Medicine" to add important history and references which I have gathered over over the last 50 years. Please recommend how you think I should proceed. This would be my first edit of a Wikipedia page. Many thanks, Frazer --Cfs1949 (talk) 15:03, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Cfs1949, hi, welcome to Wikipedia! No worries about the name - it's not personal to me so I don't take any offence. I'd say be bold and update the article. If your changes end up having an issue, they'll be reverted by another editor, who will tell you how to fix them. Wikipedia:Be bold explains this in greater detail. Sorry about the fairly late response, I'm trying to keep up with my talk page again after it getting quite a lot for me over the past few months. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 21:18, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Many thanks. Will do. Looking forward to being BOLD! I will review the article first...Frazer 8.2.72.7 (talk) 13:56, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
