Re: Ray Gravell edit

[edit]

I just wanted to thank you for adding a third point of view on the interview with Grav - I felt that the reversions made were a little abrupt, as all I was trying to do was make more information available to editors of the article, to cite as they see fit, although in light of the comments made I should point out that as you noted, it's not a Youtube ripoff - however, I am working on the behalf of the charity that owns that material. It is in the Deed of Trust of that charity to make the videos available to all interested parties, and I thought that Grav's Wikipedia page would be the perfect place to share it with pre-qualified interested parties who have already donated their time to accumulating and sharing information. However, I'm not familiar with Wikipedia's policies or procedures so I'd appreciate some clarification from an experienced editor as to whether I've made some sort of error by doing so in that manner.

Peer review feedback

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you have a request in at peer review which has not yet received any response besides the semi-automated script. Have you tried requesting a peer review from the volunteers list? Another idea is to review someone else's request (particularly one from the list of requests without responses), then ask that they look at your request. Hope these are helpful suggestions and help to get some feedback for your request soon, APR t 20:54, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review idea

[edit]

Hi, I have made a proposal that no peer review request be archived without some response. To aid in this, there is a new list of PR requests at least one week old that have had no repsonses beyond a semi-automated peer review. This list is at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog.

There are just over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, so I figure if each of these volunteers reviewed just one or two PR requests without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog (as there have been 2 or 3 such unanswered requests a day on average).

If you would be able to help out with a review or two a month from the "no responses" backlog list that would be great (and much appreciated). Please discuss questions, comments, or ideas at the PR talk page and thanks in advance for your help, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:10, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RL & RU combo infox

[edit]

Back in January you helped me by adding a Title change qualifier to the State Rep section of the Rugby League part of the combined RL/RU infobox. The solution you may recall was if I notate "yes" in the line "sooteam pre-1980=yes" then the title for that section would say "State Rep" and if I notate "no" , then title will be "State of Origin". This qualifier now seems to no longer be effective. See Kevin Ryan or Ken Kearney. Could you have a look ? Much obliged -Sticks66 13:08, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please will you review this article - I considered the claim of having played for Victoria sufficient to turn down a speedy, but as it's unreferenced, I've no idea if it's a hoax or he played for the second XV or something. The Rugby Union WikiProject seems pretty moribund judging by their talk page, so I approached you directly. Thanks for that. We also have a new box Template:Six nations new, which was made by User:Gareth_E_Kegg, so the old ones could probably be deleted now. I recently found that thw WRU have a really good archive on their site, with venues for all Welsh matches right back to 1883, so in time I am going to go back through and add all those too. Just need to find another union with good archives! I also need to add a summary line along the lines of X won the championship, with a grand slam or similar. I just wanted to say "thank you" for the kind message you left me on my Talk Page.

It was interesting to see the old YouTube clip of the Barbarians Vs All Blacks game. I remember seeing that game live on TV at the time. It was that game that first got me interested in rugby. It was a great game at the time, how rugby has changed in the last 25 years...for the better, I think. I have to say that the haka in that match must have been the worst one I have ever seen...that wouldn't scare a flee!

Anyway, thanks again. I am very impressed by your list of Featured Articles.

Request for Peer Review help

[edit]

Thank you for you work as a peer review volunteer. Since March, there has been a concerted effort to make sure all peer review requests get some response. Requests that have gone three days or longer without a substantial response are listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog. I have three requests to help this continue.

1) If you are asked to do a peer review, please ask the person who made the request to also do a review, preferably of a request that has not yet had feedback. This is fairly simple, but helps. For example when I review requests on the backlog list, I close with Hope this helps. If my comments are useful, please consider peer reviewing an article, especially one at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog (which is how I found this article). Yours, ...

2) While there are several people who help with the backlog, lately I have been doing up to 3 or 4 peer reviews a day and can not keep this up much longer. We need help. Since there are now well over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, if each volunteer reviewed just one PR request without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog. To help spread out the load, I suggest those willing pick a day of the month and do a review that day (for example, my first edit was on the 8th, so I could pick the 8th). Please pick a peer review request with no responses yet, if possible off the backlog list. If you want, leave a note on my talk page as to which day you picked and I will remind you each month.

3) I have made some proposals to add some limits to peer review requests at Wikipedia_talk:Peer_review#Proposed_limits. The idea is to prevent any one user from overly burdening the process. These seem fairly reasonable (one PR request per editor per day, only four total PR requests per editor at a time, PR requests with cleanup banners can be delisted (like GAN quick fail), and wait two weeks to relist a PR request after it is archived), but have gotten no feedback in one week. If you have any thoughts on these, please weigh in.

Thanks again for your help and in advance for any assistance with the backlog. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:19, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:OtagoHighlandersLogo.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:OtagoHighlandersLogo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:48, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page move advice needed.

[edit]

A put together a page called 1906 South Africa rugby union tour and it's been moved to page 1906 South Africa Grand Slam tour. Now I have no problem with the page being moved (apart for the fact that the person didn't clean up the links too) as there is no real correct name for the tour, but I just feel the new name seems pretty inaccessable, as I've never heard tours being called that before and that wouldn't be my first port of call if I was looking for the page. Do you agree with the new naming convention, as there was no discussion before the move? Thanks, FruitMonkey (talk) 14:26, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've noted this on your talk page too FruitMonkey - I think the name is wrong and should be changed back to what it was. I have also put my thoughts on the article's talk page. We ought to have a consistent style which really ought to include "rugby union tour" in the title (and fair enough I haven't used that on any British Lions tour I have started!), but not Grand Slam tour.--Bcp67 (talk) 15:53, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion on RU infobox.

[edit]

As a member of the Rugby league infobox, we have modified our infobox {{Infobox rugby league biography}} dramatically and now takes the form (such as Brett Kimmorley).

However, I have also created a dual code infobox on my sandbox. With an example being Wendell Sailor and Sonny Bill Williams.

It dosen't really concern me what you believe is the better infobox. But for the sake of my infobox, and my lack of real understanding for rugby union, I ask for help in the rugby union section of the infobox.

I only have two headers (Club and Representative) for RU. But it was brought to my attention that there may be differing from Rugby league (which for notability in the infobox is just Club and Reps.) and RU, that it may not have the same levels.

But your infobox suggests "Super Rugby", "Provincial/State sides", "National", "National 7s" and "Clubs". Now, the policy of the new infobox was that youth clubs would be removed, so I'm not worried about ametuer clubs".

Would you please recconmend any suggestions for the RU section of the sandbox infobox. Perhaps distinguishing between the various levels and which could possibly be merged (for instance on your Rugby infobox, "State of Origin" and "National teams" are simply merged into "Representative" on the R infobox.)

Your help would be greatly appreciated, and I will watch this page, so you can reply here. Thankyou.  The Windler talk  13:36, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear AfC participant,

  1. Msgj and Tnxman307 are organising the AfC challenge! It's a little competition to help improve some of the articles created through AfC and we are hoping that everyone will get involved. For level 1, you just need to bring a stub up to Start-class. Level 2 is improving a Start-class article to C-class. And so on. To get involved or for more information please see the competition page.
  2. Those of you who haven't reviewed an article recently might not have noticed the new process that was implemented this year. Reviewing articles is now more enjoyable than ever :) You might like to give it a try. All articles waiting for review are in Category:Pending Afc requests. (Please read the updated instructions.)
  3. Please consider adding {{AFC status}} to your userpage to keep track of the number of articles waiting for review. At the time of writing we are officially backlogged, so help is needed!
  4. There is currently a proposal to bring the Images for upload process under the umbrella of WikiProject Articles for creation. The rationale is that both processes are designed to allow unregistered users to take part more fully in Wikipedia, and partipants in each process can probably help each other.

If you no longer wish to receive messages from WikiProject Articles for creation, please remove your name from this list. Thank you.

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:AB196TestProgramme.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 06:02, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image permission problem with Image:Ofw.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Ofw.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Denniss (talk) 03:07, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Sweeps invitation

[edit]

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! 2006 England rugby union tour of Australia

[edit]

Shudde, I noticed (after I had made my edit) when other members tried to compile a report of this tour you reverted back to the redirect (about a year ago)

Do you not feel this tour is worthy of its own page? I note previous England tours (up till 2004) have their own reports, as does the 2006 tour of New Zealand and Australia by Ireland.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Hammett03Final.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Hammett03Final.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. 67.85.125.17 (talk) 01:29, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most.
