KLEG-LP is an Azteca América affiliate for the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex, licensed in Dallas, Texas. KLEG is owned and operated by Una Vez Más Holdings, LLC (through Dilip Viswanath). Unlike many low-powered stations, it is seen on Time Warner Cable on Channel 21 in the Dallas area and Charter Cable on channel 20 in the Fort Worth area, in addition to its low-power signal, as well as DirecTV and Dish Network both on channel 44. It was added to Verizon FiOS on channel 24 in early March, 2008 as well as on AT&T U-Verse on channel 26.
Azteca América can also be seen on KATA-CA subchannel 50.3.
[edit] History
This station was first established in 1996 as K19BW on channel 19 with Spanish programs, movies, and sports. Then on February 1999, the station was airing news from CBS TeleNoticias, thus making it a 24-hour TV station, compared to the daily 8AM-12AM programming schedule. By September 1999, K19BW was moved to channel 44 to make way for KTVT's Digital signal, then the station was rebranded K44FO. By November 2000, K44FO dropped the CBS Telenoticias affiliate and became a flagship station of Luis de la Garza's TeleAmerica Spanish Network with a few original programs such as Foro 44. By March 15, 2001, the station was once again rebranded to KLEG. Despite picking up the Mas Musica network temporarily, it has remained an affiliate of TeleAmerica.
In 2006, KODF-LP has acquired this station as its repeater for Azteca América until KODF's analog shut-off in June 25, 2009, where KLEG continues to carry Azteca América programming to this day.
KLEG is one of a few remaining low-powered analog stations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. However, KLEG has a construction permit to flash-cut to digital broadcasting on the original channel 19.
Una Vez Mas may soon acquire KLDT. The fate of low power KLEG if that sale occurs is uncertain. It is likely that Azteca America programming might be moving to KLDT because it is up in power.
