Political career

Radhakrishnan won the 1999 Lok Sabha election from Nagercoil constituency and became Minister of State for Youth Affairs in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government of 1999-2004. He was president of Tamil Nadu state unit of the Bharathya Janata Party, resigning the position when he became a Minister of State in the Narendra Modi-led government.[4] He had won in a Lok Sabha seat in the Indian general election, 2014, from Kanyakumari constituency by a margin of 1,28,662 votes.[5] He was in news when he allayed fears of privatization of Cochin Shipyard to the trade unions and associations, as its importance in the defence sector is unparalleled, in wake of its oversubscribed initial public offering, and the building of the majestic INS Vikrant.[6]
