[[File:Information.svg|25px|alt=Information icon]]
Established [[Wikipedia:Administrators#Procedural removal for inactive administrators|policy]] provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. RE: Mariah Carey

First of all, YES, musical artists, engineers, producers, and writers are members of the music industry. Amateur journalists and disposable column 'writers' are NOT members of the music industry therefore their opinions are non foundational and only auxillary. As well, writers from Rolling Stone magazine are not memebers of-- or affiliated with-- the music industry. Your slanted article about Mariah Carey's voice from a fluke 1992 Rolling Stone article does not justify throwing the sincerity of M. Carey's vocal performances into a sweeping catagory of unabiltiy to showcase "true emotion through song." I enclosed the opinions of a myriad of field writers from the NARAS, a Grammy-award winning artist, an inspired fan-singer, a gaming magazine writer, and pop-culture tabloid columnist, and a music publishing representative author. The bias articles enclosed, before I submitted mine, were from extraneous writers outside of the music industry. Besides, anything any yellow journalist could ever conjure is nothing to the prestige of the NARAS.

And lasty, there's nothing wrong, unofficial, or informal about citing an interview source as the person who is being quoted, the place, and the date. Maybe you are unaware that a first-hand interview is more viable than anything published or documented. Perhaps you could do some research in your free time rather than being paranoid someone might submit better, more accurate information regarding articles on wikipedia.--The Knowledge 06:58, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What happened here?

Your page is messed up. Anyway, EM READ the Wiki rules. You cannot randomly change a main page's image when the TALK page SPECIFICALLY says to discuss the matter first. I own both images in question. If someone wants to debate if an image should be changed because "it looks like she's looking at her armpit", that should go for discussion and it would be shot down. End of discussion. Before I blow my stack

First of all... ummm, ok I see your talk page, you are officially crazy.  :-P

Can you pleeeeeease keep your eyes on this guy? He added some extremely out-of-place and speculatory information to Pet Shop Boys discography and got very angry that I removed it. I don't think I was being too critical or mean, but I need an extra pair of eyes on it (if I was overstepping, please tell me). There's some lovely correspondence on our talk pages, if you're bored and want something insane to read. He seems intent on putting this info on the page and it really doesn't look right to me. Thanks in advance. - eo 22:24, 22 April 2007 (UTC) P.S. I don't know if "speculatory" is really a word.[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Donnie Darko Film Poster.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Donnie Darko Film Poster.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:00, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting my own discussion

It's my page!!!!! I thought it was to full so please get off my page...Thank you Electric Storm89 15:07, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know whats on my talkpage but I just disagree. What a nice way of communicating through the historypage......I'll remember that one.
Haha...okay...whatever. You know I Have explained like a thousand times why I think that my versions in the pinkpage are better. But if you don't comment on that you shouldn't argue.

You added a merge tag on this article way back in December 2005. Since then it has been edited several hundred times, but there has been no discussion (other than my adds) since January 2006. I am going to remove the merge tag. I have done a LOT of work to fix that article, by removing all the extraneous junk, adding the 1956-1969 #1 albums, and adding a ref to every single item on the page. I think it can now stand on its own, rather than get merged into a related topic that has issues of its own. Horologium talk - contrib 03:59, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are right about the duplication, and I think it might be a good idea to merge it with Billboard Year-End, although that, like the original target, has some serious issues with accuracy. All of my cited albums have Billboard links, but the list does not track very closely to what is listed in Billboard Year-End. I'll go ahead and add the merge tags, but I will end up doing some heavy-duty editing on the Year-End page if the merge goes through. Horologium talk - contrib 20:33, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

?

But many articles use UKMix as a reliable source. Plus, I just moved the Let's Dance pages because it annoyed me, and I don't know how to request. And they got the name wrong. There's no Anne in her music career name. Don't bother replying. It will only make me madder unless you have a very good explanation for the UKMic thing. And I ask you DO NOT tell me anything about the Let's Dance pages. That will just make me mad. If you want, you can tell me how to request, but don't say anything about Let's Dance. Question

Through the tour-mail of Christina Aguilera it is known that Slow Down Baby will be the new single....but some-one has tagged the Slow Down Baby article to the Back To Basics page. How can you reverse that?

Non-free use disputed for Image:Zack_Files_US_S1_DVD_cover.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Zack_Files_US_S1_DVD_cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 17:53, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Joe_Elliott_in_Bringin'_on_the_Heartbreak_music_video.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Joe_Elliott_in_Bringin'_on_the_Heartbreak_music_video.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 21:50, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vanessa Carlton Navbox.

Really, you didn't have to change the layout. According to Template:Navbox musical artist, they don't look like what you changed it to. They're supposed to look like what I made it look like. Besides, it's prettier this way, isn't it? I'm gonna change it back, but i'll keep your additional changes to discography etc. Thanks н¡ρρi iρρ¡ 08:49, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good to see you're back. Actually, another user took Love. Angel. Music. Baby. to FAC, and it's there right now. I haven't done too much with it recently since I wasn't planning on bringing it to FAC without a thorough lookthrough and some updating. The recently added "Impact on popular music" needs a copyedit badly and to be merged into another section, though I haven't given much thought as to the best way to organize that. I'll probably start revamping the article some once Hey Ya! is done with FAC and when I'm done working on the Lily Allen article, which I userfied so I can eventually nominate it for GA. If you get a chance to look at the article before then, that'd be really helpful. Thanks for the link too; I've seen the article, and it had some helpful content for some of the articles. ShadowHalo 18:25, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I almost forgot. I started an Eight Easy Steps article because it's a good song, but I couldn't find too many sources for the article. Since you've worked with Alanis' articles, I figured you might know of some more sources with which to expand it. ShadowHalo 22:03, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Not Too Late

You left a message on my talk page:

Hi. I was just wondering why you changed the format "February 10 – 2007-03-17" back to "2007-02-10 – 2007-03-17" - my rationale for my edit was that if the two dates occurred in the same year, it's redundant to mention the year for both of them. Extraordinary Machine 23:01, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

The reason I added the year is because otherwise the date formatting doesn't work, as can be seen in the quote above (rendered using my date formatting preferences). --PEJL 23:09, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't affect only ISO date formats, it affects all date formats other than the "Month Day, Year" format (i.e. all registered users who have set a date formatting preference other than that format). With a UK date setting it would be rendered as "February 10 – 17 March 2007". I dug up an old discussion about this here. (Since then the guideline for en dashes has changed to make it more explicit that the en dash in such ranges should be spaced.) --PEJL 23:55, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, I guess I just assumed it wouldn't change the formatting of month-day dates with the UK setting since it doesn't with the ISO setting. Thanks for letting me know. --PEJL 18:54, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vanessa Carlton Navbox Discussion Continued.

omg why did they revert it back?! If you see on Template:Navbox musical artist, it says Template:Navigational templates are for GENERIC templates. *sigh* Maybe I should start an edit war :S haha. Los 10+ Pedidos

I left a comment in the talk page of that article. Just wanna make you know that MTV Latinamerica is divided in three feeds: MTV Norte (Mexico), MTV Centro (Colombia) and MTV Sur (Argentina). MTV Norte and Sur have their own TV shows and programs, but MTV Centro doesn't, so MTV Norte (Mexico) retransmit all its TV shows as Los 10+ pedidos to MTV Centro (Colombia) which is viewed in many countries like Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, etc. It doesn't exist a feed called MTV Perú (it was erased of spanish wikipedia), it's just a vandalism of Brian lm13, who created various articles violating GNU Licence and making copyvio without pay attention to the rules, so he was blocked forever. Sorry

Hi i vandalized the Stranger page I wanted to say sorry, but if Hot Dance Airplay is only monitorted by seven stations why does Billboard still keep it active. It seems kind of pointless

Hilary Duff

It's not needed to put the Radio Disney songs are her page, it's very pointless. Also, why does Happy and Smile keep getting added. The songs were not used on the soundtrack for Material Girls, considering there was no soundtrack to the movie. It's pointless to have that on there. I'm in the works of redoing that page, so please don't add it back.

Fair use rationale for Image:Nellygood.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Nellygood.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you for correcting your edits there. While there is something to be said for moving the information about awards to further down in the article, your initial edit simply removed mention of them completely. That created a more significant POV issue than having them in the first sentence. I hope you will keep that in mind when taking your crusade to other articles. I added "singles" to the Music Of The Sun page because 'let Me" was removed from "Rihanna Discography". Let me WAS a single, even though it was only in japan. It was a hit there. It was removed from the list of singles because someone removed Japan from the list of charts. Someone also removed it's wikipedia page. They removed all evidence that "Let Me" was a single.

Nominations

Hey hey! Can you take a look at this section? This (to me) seems way out of control and fansite-y, and I swear (unless I imagined it) there is a guideline or a policy somewhere stating that nominations should not be listed, although wins are okay. Do you know where that guideline is? I looked and can't find it; I must be blind. I don't want to remove all that junk without first having something to back me up on it. The colors are a different story, but I wasn't gonna remove that til I can clean up the whole thing. Tanx. - eo 20:18, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Extraordinary Machine, and thank you for the reply. I've found the sources confirming the release dates of "Never Again" in many Sony BMG international sites, but I still need some help finding the ones for Canada and Sweden.

Norah Jones album

Hello! There's no source about the sales but only logic. It's known that in Japan the gold status is for sales more than 100,000. I've looked to the Back To Basics Wikipedia Page and it's right. Also in the US the double platinum is for more than 2 million copies. Not too late has just sold 1,3 m. --Chronisgr 14:16, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A Woman Like Me (Beyoncé song) to A Woman like Me (Beyoncé song)

I noticed you changed the name of the article A Woman Like Me (Beyoncé song) to A Woman like Me (Beyoncé song). You specified you did so per "naming conventions". I'm a little confused here... WP:NAME states "Do not capitalize second and subsequent words unless the title is a proper noun". "A Woman Like Me" is a proper noun - it is a song title. Shouldn't the article title be "A Woman Like Me (Beyoncé song)"? Chupper 23:07, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I see you've given Vinaixa67 a few blocks recently too. I'm almost tempted to either indefinitely block right now or take this to WP:CSN and see what consensus is about a ban. I've had a ton of problems with him in the past with uncited edits, copyright issues, and unresponsive behaviour (the fact he doesn't speak English doesn't help at all). Thoughts? Dear Extraordinary Machine,

If you are gonna restrict "Who Knew" to just having 5 chart positions, you will need to change every article on wikipedia that is a song and displays chart information. Most songs do not have this restrict, and "Who Knew" will not either. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Beyoncé Suga Mama music video.PNG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Beyoncé Suga Mama music video.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. I did this because Template:Discography list/doc states that: "for a band article that has most or all of their albums described in a separate article, the standard shorter list should be used instead (album year, album title, studio/live/compilation qualifier) in a bulletted list or a table. All the extra information is then provided at each album's own article." *Hippi ippi 05:59, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Chart names

Hi! Thanks, Happy New Year for you too! Long time no talk. :) Well, I was considering using the Billboard charts' former names in articles about singles that entered the charts at the time they had those names, but I wasn't quite sure about the exact issue date the charts had their names changed, so I realised this would be pretty complicated. By the way, do you know the exact date? Thanks again, hope you're having a fabulous 2007 too. Funk Junkie (talk) 22:44, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I think that helps. What about an artist article mentioning singles that charted before and after the name change? Should I use the former name for the single which charted before and the current name for the single which charted after? Funk Junkie (talk) 22:58, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your opinion. And yes, I also think this could be brought up at Wikipedia talk:Record charts. Would you mind doing it? I'll be right here in case you need a hand. ;) Funk Junkie (talk) 23:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, her first two albums had a purely '60s/'70s rhythm and blues/soul sound, but her latest release mixes traditional R&B/soul with contemporary R&B, neo soul, and hip hop. Thanks a lot anyway! :D Funk Junkie (talk) 23:57, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Did you read the article? The quote is taken from the entry. Read it carefully. I'm returning the information, as it was sourced and relevant to the article as she specifically marvels at M.I.A.'s style on her first album in the entry. DriveDelta (talk) 21:07, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. What links Furtado's opinion of M.I.A.'s album and the recording of Loose is the timing of the entry (during Looses early recording as she mentions), the sounds present on Loose, what some reviewers have pointed out in terms of similarities, and Furtado's praise of the style and flow of M.I.A.. Seeing as she says she is "rrecording my new album...woohoo!!! It is very exciting...I am thinking and writing and recording everyday" at the beginning, it makes sense to list this artist as an inspiration. Interestingly, she mentions "looking foward to the new System of a Down record in mid may" in the entry, which is also cited as a band she listened to on the Loose article. In this context, the wording can be changed to "listened to M.I.A.'s first album" if you prefer. DriveDelta (talk) 21:33, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I read both articles [1] and [2] where she mentions these other musicians listed on the Loose page and in both, she merely mentions loving them and listening to them during the early recordings. There is no "explicit stating" of influence. There is a possibility that in later articles, she has specified who "influenced" the album. The article is written "listened to several electro and rock musicians...some of whom influenced..." so I thought to include this. It really doesn't matter if that info on her love of M.I.A.'s first album during Loose's early recording stays or goes, just thought of putting it in after reading it cause it seemed relevant. If you can think of another section to include it in, go ahead or it can be removed. DriveDelta (talk) 00:14, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Under_Rug_Swept_Japanese_promo_CD.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:48, 9 February 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 11:48, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:A Little More Personal (Raw) album cover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:A Little More Personal (Raw) album cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it may be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:43, 25 February 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Hey ,you said you wanted Thriller 25 a merged article from Thriller (album). Just wondering, have you re-considered since then, now it's out? It's just we're trying to get a consensus going on the talk page. It'd be nice for you to either contribute to debate, or state if your opinion has changed. Consider how much both the articles have changed since your last imput as they have both seen changes. Realist2 (talk) 17:41, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Posterraisevoice.jpg

Mariah Carey

As you have always in the past been an editor whom I have respected and valued, I would like to ask your assistance with the Mariah Carey Discography and artucles from this i.e Music Box, Butterfly, Rainbow. My issue is the use of one reference which is Undercover.au which multiple users are enforcing above what I believe are official sources. Refer to Music Box discussion page for one example. I have tried to get clarification from the RS noticeboard, but no takers. Can you advise in your opinion whether my assessment is correct. or should I just accept this source knowing very well it is garbage? Eight88 (talk) 09:57, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:Honey.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 11:32, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Hilary Duff Wake Up music video.PNG

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Hilary Duff Wake Up music video.PNG. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. A tag has been placed on File:Mariah Carey5 Edwards Dec 1998.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Daniel González has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability. No sources given after being tagged for nearly two years (imdb is not a reliable source). Web searches produce some mentions, but no substantial coverage.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on Choice (group) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Extraordinary Machine! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 5 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 944 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

A tag has been placed on Long Way To Go requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. MSU Interview

Dear Extraordinary Machine,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 18:25, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

Hi Extraordinary Machine, I've seen you appear in my watchlist quite a lot lately. It's great to see an old and familiar name around again. :) I hope you're well. Acalamari 13:12, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We recently lost a pop music admin so I'm happy to see one return. :) I'm mostly okay; I often miss seeing the "old and familiar" names around so it's a pleasant surprise when one come back. I saw your good work on Foxes and Jess Glynne - two of my favorite artists at the moment. Acalamari 22:28, 23 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Emotion - Flop.

Discuss it on the talk page, because there are many albums that did worse than Emotion that are not considered a flop, maybe even a success. Drake Bell's Ready Steady Go! is an example of this. He's even considered a moderately successful musician even though his highest peak was #81. Jepsen peaked at #8 in Japan selling over 70,000 copies. So, not a flop. Find a reliable source saying so. Plus, again, take it to the talk. -- Joseph Prasad (talk) 04:48, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Extraordinary Machine. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Extraordinary Machine.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
