The Spam-whitelist page is used in conjunction with the Mediawiki SpamBlacklist extension, and lists strings of text that override Meta's blacklist and the local spam-blacklist. Any administrator can edit the spam whitelist. Please post comments to the appropriate section below: Proposed additions (web pages to unblock), Proposed removals (sites to reblock), or Troubleshooting and problems; read the messageboxes at the top of each section for an explanation. See also MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist.

Please enter your requests at the bottom of the Proposed additions to Whitelist section and not at the very bottom of the page. Sign your requests with four tildes: ~~~~

Also in your request, please include the following:

    1. The link that you want whitelisted in the section title, like === example.com/help/index.php === .
    2. The Wikipedia page on which you want to use the link
    3. An explanation why it would be useful to the encyclopedia article proper
    4. If the site you're requesting is listed at /Common requests, please include confirmation that you have read the reason why requests regarding the site are commonly denied and that you still desire to proceed with your request

Important: You must provide a full link to the specific web page you want to be whitelisted (leave out the http:// from the front; otherwise you will not be able to save your edit to this page). Requests quoting only a domain (i.e. ending in .com or similar with nothing after the / character) are likely to be denied. If you wish to have a site fully unblocked please visit the relevant section of MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist.

Note: Do not request links to be whitelisted where you can reasonably suspect that the material you want to link to is in violation of copyright (see WP:LINKVIO). Such requests will likely be summarily rejected.

There is no automated notification system in place for the results of requests, and you will not be notified when your request has a response. You should therefore add this page to your personal watch list, to your notifications through the subscribe feature, or check back here every few days to see if there is any progress on it; in particular, you should check whether administrators have raised any additional queries or expressed any concerns about the request, as failure to reply to these promptly will generally result in the request being denied.

    Completed requests are archived, additions and removal are logged. →snippet for logging: {{/request|406060475#section_name}}

Note that requests from new or unregistered users are not usually considered.

Proposed additions to Whitelist (sites to unblock)

    A Specific examiner.com article

I am requesting that the URL examiner.com/live-music-in-los-angeles/the-sound-of-every-living-soul be white-listed. It pertains to current events centered around a famous musician, Luis Conte, and the article itself is clean and pertinent. (Also, take note that Conte's website does not even feature current events, and this article is the most current information on him short of his last album release in 2009, which is the last posting on his website.) I want to add a link to an interview a famous game designer did at www.examiner.com/x-7207-Cleveland-RPG-Examiner~y2009m9d1-Dennis-Detwiller-Interview but that site is currently blacklisted. I see no reason for it to have been blacklisted to begin with. Some of the information is valid, such as Dennis Detwiller's interview. If there is anything on the site not considered reliable sources, then that could be determined on a case by case basis, there no reason to block the entire site. I thought blacklisting only happened to spams and scams. Dream Focus 00:38, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please unblock this page: holocaustresearchproject.org/ar/sobibor/sobiborrememberme.html ... It contains a long list of the victims and survivors of the Sobibor death camp and would be useful as an external link for Wikipedia pages about Sobibor, Alexander Pechersky, Leon Feldhandler and other Sobibor related pages. The information on the page includes 13 references at the bottom. I am not sure why the site is blocked, but this page does not contain any advertisements. I am not employed, friends with, related to, or even know who owns this website, but it does contain relevant information to the Alexander Pechersky article I wrote. Cheers! Meishern (talk) 02:32, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I did some looking into the reason behind the ban of this website and found that anti-semitism is the chief cause.
This is the reason for the block of this website explained on [wikipedia internal link]:
    1) 'Associated with the death camps nonsense'. Interesting use of the word 'nonsense'. Maybe its time to re-evaluate this reason for the block and ban the racist, revisionist who wrote such a terrible reason for banning a holocaust website.
    2) 'the site is not reliable.' Each page has references on the bottom, and from the information I've read it is accurate, well written and doesnt conflict with other sources.
I will contact the appropriate wikipedia admins to examine this nonsense a bit closer. Meishern (talk) 02:51, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Meishern, it was blacklisted since it was spammed, (agressively) cross wiki, the exact reason why the spam blacklist was designed (your link was not the blacklisting reason, that is here). Moreover, it was deemed to be inaccurate (which may have changed) and related to deathcamps.org / death-camps.org. And I think that the word 'nonsense' was relating to the latter two sites. Deathcamps.org / death-camps.org has an OTRS ticket attached, with on and off wiki disputes, edit warring, spamming, etc. etc. (I don't know if there are OTRS tickets for holocaustresearchproject; I don't have access to OTRS).

But then, this situation has been quite some time ago (blacklisted in 2006), and the site may have cleaned up their act. I would suggest to request a new de-listing request on meta, stressing the arguments that it seems to be reliable now (maybe give some examples), and that it was a long time ago (I don't know if there is still a link with death(-)camps.org, that may need investigation!). Note that if it gets removed, it will be blacklisted again if spamming resumes. --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:12, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Even the reason for the block seems rubbish. Quoting a weblog as an RS to ban something? Weblogs itself are suspect. Seems like an editor was the problem and the site bannedLihaas (talk) 13:20, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
'Even the reason for the block seems rubbish'? Well, it was clearly spammed, so that is the point, the weblog did not help, but it is not the reason for blacklisting .. Still  Defer to Global blacklist (if the site cleared up their act). --Dirk Beetstra T C 14:07, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Nefac

Official website of a prominent anarchist federation. Relevant to several wiki articles. url may have been involved in a single spam years ago (2007). One user did a cross wiki post for this site on several anti-fascist articles. This is no reason to continue a total ban. NEFAC remains an influential organization with several member groups that have wiki entries and news coverage. The main url should be whitelisted or removed from the blacklist. Delirium of disorder (talk) 11:56, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • Is there an index.html or about.php or similar page to whitelist? If I whitelist just nefac.net, links from anywhere on the site can be added again, which I'd rather avoid. Stifle (talk) 08:39, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • You could unblock index.php if you want. I really don't see how a single malicious user unrelated to those running or writing about a site can get a whole domain blocked. However, it is most important to unblock the main site, so I would support whitelisting index.php Thanks. Delirium of disorder (talk) 14:58, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Antony Beaumont discography

I would like to link to this page: www.theclassicalshop.net/details06MP3.asp?CNumber=CHAN%2010138 in order to cleanup the discography at Antony Beaumont#Audio recordings (as conductor). The link acts as a citation, as do the other links to the Chandos website already in this section. Chandos, the publisher of the CD, does not have another website, and the web page which I wish to link was the source of the information on the recording which was used in preparing the discography. Also the specific link under discussion allows one to download a pdf file of the recording booklet which happens to contain an informative essay on the music which was written by the subject of the Wikipedia article, the musicologist Antony Beaumont. --Robert.Allen (talk) 19:07, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • What does it verify? Stifle (talk) 11:34, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • That Antony Beaumont conducted and recorded Zemlinsky's Die Seejungfrau, Fantasy for Orchestra (1902-3) and Symphony in D minor with the Czech Philharmonic, a recording which was issued on Chandos [ttp://www.theclassicalshop.net/details06MP3.asp?CNumber=CHAN%2010138 CHAN 10138] (includes downloadable CD booklet). I first accessed the page on 3 February 2009, but have been unable to link to it. In addition, no other website provides the booklet with Beaumont's essay on the music which is on the recording. --Robert.Allen (talk) 22:14, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry!!! I was more than a bit negligent when I wrote this request. The web site has changed, and the link I requested is now dead. Obviously I should have checked before writing the request, since it had been quite a while since I last checked it. In any case, I think I can find the info for these recordings on WorldCat, so I'm hoping to replace most of the links to theclassicalshop.net with links to WorldCat, but I would like to link to the CD booklet with the essay by Beaumont which is on the blocked site. The new link would be the following: www.theclassicalshop.net/download_booklet.aspx?file=CHAN%205022.pdf Since this link does not lead to any page with offers to sell the recording, perhaps it will be more acceptable. --Robert.Allen (talk) 07:48, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    4shared.com

Well, the en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4shared clearly states that "This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. Please improve this article if you can." I actually can do that. This article is written like an advertisement so I've rewrote it from a neutral point of view as it should be. But I can't publish it because it says that the article contains an external link which is banned. The wiki already has articles on other file sharing services so I don't see any reason why people shouldn't know about the similar one. --Bewitchedyegor (talk) 10:57, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest a specific rule here, is there a about.htm or something similar? Is it the external link that blocks the edit? --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:07, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There are number of pages that are united under "About" title on the web site itself (if you meant that) but I haven't linked to them. I've tried to remove all the references to the services components (software description links etc) but that didn't work as well. The banned link is the 4shared.com itself. --Bewitchedyegor (talk) 11:54, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that I've missed one external link, I've edited the page itself finally. --D.linchevskiy (talk) 13:36, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • We need a specific link as listing 4shared.com on its own will permit anything from the site, which is exactly what we're trying to block. Stifle (talk) 14:02, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    pornhub.com

At the moment, the URL for the article on Pornhub cannot be edited into the article so that it can be clicked on because it has been blacklisted. I am asking that you please whitelist the URL www.pornhub.com so that it can be used in the URL section of the Infobox. Jesant13 (talk) 21:17, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You'll need to provide a about.htm or similar (i.e., some specific 'home'-page), whitelisting the whole domain would enable also linking of all the subpages which we are trying to keep out. Is there something like that which is suitable? --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:38, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The only URL I know of for the website's homepage is //www.pornhub.com/. Wouldn't it be possible to whitelist that exact address, so that any modifications to it (for instance, //www.pornhub.com/example or //example.pornhub.com) wouldn't work, but //www.pornhub.com/ still would work? Jesant13 (talk) 00:21, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's http://www.pornhub.com/index.php. As far as I know, all web servers of all types will have an "index" file with some name, although it might not always be obvious what it is. The webserver redirects "empty" filenames to that page, without changing the URL that appears in the browser. Soap 21:52, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There's also http://www.pornhub.com/information#faq, which is the closest thing to an "about" page that they seem to have. Soap 21:56, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just confirmed this for myself. In that case, could www.pornhub.com/index.php be added to the whitelist? I'll simply put the URL on the Pornhub article to www.pornhub.com but set it so that when it is clicked on it will take the user to www.pornhub.com/index.php. Jesant13 (talk) 16:20, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It seems okay to me, since it was added to prevent vandalism rather than spam. But I've never edited this blacklist or whitelist before and am not sure if there's any precedent against whitelisting an index page so I'll hold off in case someone else has a different opinion. Soap 23:42, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is, quite some index.php's can be 'abused' (see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php .. add ?title=pornhub to it .. and you do get to other content). I tried that on pornhub, but it seems that there it does not work like that (there is another php that shows the video's I think), but I'd like someone else to confirm. Thanks. --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:45, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    Don't we have a regex delimiter for the end of a string? MER-C 11:51, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    www.spine-health.com

I'd like to request that this site be unblocked. I'm not sure why it was blocked by herbythyme in December 2007 and I apologize if it's apparent to a more experience Wikipedia contributor. This site contains excellent articles on back pain and procedures used to mitigate it. I was making a proposal on the Talk page for the stub Facet joint injection that it be changed to Facet Joint Injection Procedures and include the three standard procedures used. I noted URLs from spine-health (see below) that I thought could be used as references or in External Links as well as support my idea for the new topic when I discovered that the domain had been blacklisted. I certainly wouldn't suggest only using information from this site (or any one site) but because it was a Talk page, I thought I'd add pertinent links to support my suggestions that would add to the topic's discussion. I found this site while I was Googling for articles written by Ray Baker, MD, on the subject. I specifically chose to Google Baker because he's a world-renowned expert in the area of facet joint injection procedures.

Here are some considerations to take into account about the site when looking at it again:

    1. It's independent. It's not owned by companies selling products, procedures or medications, and the articles aren't written or influenced by such companies.
    2. It contains entirely original content, it's written for laymen and it's more in-depth than similar sites.
    3. It's peer-reviewed by at least one appropriate health care practitioner from their Medical Advisory Board.
    4. It clearly marks all advertisements so they cannot be confused with content.

Here are the articles I suggested. Again, I'd never suggest that this or any other site be the sole resource for a Wikipedia article but I thought it was appropriate to add the links to a Talk page to support my suggestions, add to the discussion about my proposal and possibly be used as references/External Links.

I found some accounts back in 2006 spamming this. I should note, (quite) some additions were .. debatable, others were plain spammy. You can find some accounts using the linksearch in the linksummary template above (the first link, saying 'en'), there are some IPs where the links are on the talkpages, those are amongst the editors that have been found to add this.
I'm not sure if this would pass WP:RS, having a specialist paid to review the articles might not be enough (you might want to see WP:RS/N about that first. As external links I would not use them either, we are not a linkfarm to link to all possible information, there is much more out there, and I think much more is available on better sources than this anyway. I guess you could try for specific links for specific sourcing, but I don't think the whole domain should be whitelisted. --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:54, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the "general" ban on using the Examiner, but someone gave you a specific case and rationale for using it as a source for just one article and you nixed it. Surely, the system of appeal exists to allow occasional deviations for cause. If no Examiner articles ever (even with a valid reason stated) can ever be approved, we should just remove them from ever coming to the appeals site. As is, your shooting it down and just citing the general policy against the Examiner makes no sense. The person is indicating a specific case. So adress that. Not just cite the general policy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.82.43.222 (talk) 01:02, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, just to clarify, I agree with the general ban on the Examiner. However, really the issues you mention (editorial oversight, and $$) are issues of degree, which we can find to various levels within more established papers versus the Examiner. For instance many trade journals, which would probably pass as good sources have little editorial oversight and have some commerical purpose. Also, in many cases, there really is good news being reported of a specialty nauture in Examiner that becuse it hits a niche is not registering at AP or NYT. Again, I'm not trying to defend the Examiner, just say that an editor being careful may have good reason to request a deviation. And the purpose of this site is to consider those. I would think if the editor appears bright and knowledgeable about the subject, not POVing an ethnic war in Europe or the like, and has given a good reason, we might want to bow to his applied insight. Not apply an officious policy (and again, given appeal exists, this is not a "never" policy, really!) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.82.43.222 (talk) 01:08, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are other available sources as this has been a topic discussed in the general Maryland university landscape over the past year. Per WP:YOUTUBE, one can feel free to use this link which appears to have been produced by a university news outlet. There's also a local area news outlet, one from WBAL (regional market tv broadcaster), and plenty others found easily through a Google search. I personally like to avoid examiner.com whenever possible and in this case, it's probably better to avoid examiner.com, especially based on the appearance of that article. Hi, I've created a custom search engine that is very helpful when searching for reliable sources on a topic. Several times, I've wanted to link to it in talk page discussions, but can't because it's blocked. So what I have to do is introduce an error into the URL (usually a blank space) to let other editors use it. But since they can't click on it, it makes things pretty inconvenient and other editors don't understand what I'm talking about. So, can we have an exception to allow http://www.google.com/ cse/home?cx=010426977372765398405:3xxsh-e1cp8&hl=en? A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 19:44, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that I understand. Are you saying that this is a technical limitation? Just to clarify, I'm not asking for all custom search engines be whitelisted, just this particular one. Why would you have to whitelist them all? A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 00:50, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a technical limitation, but a point of consistency. We don't allow any custom searches because of the risk of misuse of Google Co-op, and if we were to permit this one, there would be huge complaints from others whose requests we denied. Stifle (talk) 14:17, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Then I'm confused as to the purpose of having a white list in the first place. If the argument is, "We can't have an exception because there would be complaints from other people in similar situations", then what's the point of having a white list? It seems to me that that argument can be applied to every single request. In what situation does an exception get approved? A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 17:45, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see where you're coming from. I will not make a final decision on this, but will invite one of the other admins who patrols this board to decide on the matter. Stifle (talk) 08:12, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really see that issue, Stifle. We whitelist when specific links have a use for Wikipedia. Sure, there may be more custom search engines become asked for, but in mainspace these are totally inappropriate (we don't have to provide a service to editors to have a custom search engine to find some <subject>; that then can be use promotional by changing the custom search in such a way that certain products are found etc.). If the use is strictly outside of mainspace by WikiProjects or Noticeboards (like this one), then I do not see the problem why we now would have to allow other custom search engines for use in mainspace. I'd suggest to allow this one, keeping WP:OTHERLINKS in mind when others are trying to use this decision as a reason for whitelisting others. --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:20, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The following links were added to Hungarian parliamentary election, 2010 months ago, but was then removed by a pov editor who doesnt discuss, i just came back to the page to find it had now been blacklisted. I came to accommodate and add other sources as well, but this one has additional quotes that i havent been able to find so need this as a cite. There is a section detailing the "controversy" itself during the election hence its not used as some sort of "be all and all" link for which i presume it was blocked (why was it blocked?). The usage itself explains the link as a controversy an encyclopaedic defense of statements, not controversial assessments of fact. The section that used to refer to this link has also been added to by another RS.
    The 2 links are: eutimes.net/2009/10/hungarian-fidesz-eyes-2010-elections-gypsies-jews-homosexuals-beware/ and eutimes.net/2010/04/nationalism-is-considerably-rising-in-hungary-close-to-elections/(Lihaas (talk) 10:25, 19 September 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

Here goes, 3rd time lucky: the article "currency war" needs the url "moneymorning.com/2010/10/07/currency-war-6/" in order to cite a reaction. it is not linking to an aspect of the page to draw viewers, but the article is an analysys (or reaction rather). The content is also cited in a manner that gives due caveat and not treated as gospel truth. Furthermore, the reactions are very plausible and not made up because similiar reactions are cited on the page, though this would further the context of the reaction. About Wikitest.org Orthoped.org and related domains

I would like to apologize for some of my additions, which were solely for draining traffic from wikipedia. But I would like to cleanup the act if given the opportunity by making the additions as per the ideology quoted in Dirk's Talk page regarding addition of relevant missing content and then quoting the reference. The only factor I would like to quote in my defence, is that the pages, which I had added, did contain exceptional authoritative content regarding Orthopedics for which I hold a diploma and have the ability to provide expert information. As an example, "tennis elbow home test" in the article on Tennis elbow, cozen's test which is properly explained on my referenced page. "Dugas test" an important test which we employ to verify reduction of shoulder dislocation was not even mentioned in Dislocated Shoulder article and so on. So kindly reinclude the URLs which have been blacklisted in bulk and I agree to abide by Wikipedia guidelines. If you want to read some of my quality articles on Orthopedic topics to confirm my authority, you can read my articles on Healthhype.com authored under my name Dr. Gauresh or google search for collarbone pain, leg weakness, neck spasm, pain pill addiction, and so on, which are read and appreciated by 100s of people each day.

    www.salsalust.com

I'm the admin of "Salsa Lust" .I want to use the link in external links for Salsa, and Rueda_de_casino, and on the equivalent pages on several other language wikis.

Salsa Lust is a project created by myself and few more salsa experts. Its mission is very similiar to Wikipedia in the salsa scene - To document Salsa's moves & variations and to create a formal standard across the world. Its contribution to the salsa scene across the world can be large and several teachers already use the site at their main source for teaching materials. The site is not used for lucrative purpose (there are couple of ads for the sake of upkeeping costs).

Wikipedia has produced large traffic to the site and allowed it to spread around the world which is not an easy task without it. Actaully without it the project will somewhat lose it's world wide effect which will deal a huge blow. I Believe & know every salsa dancer would appretiate the site as the experts on my country are, and the relvence to salsa is quite bold to anyone who took at least one lesson in salsa. Therefore think that it appropriate to place the link where it is relevent (which I listed above). --Idofle (talk) 12:07, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A perfect example of how spamming pays ... I am sorry, Idolfe, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for promotion of your site. no Declined. --Dirk Beetstra T C 12:13, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Look, I don't mean disrespect but I do care a lot for the project and the salsa scene and to blacklist it in Wikipedia seems absurd to me as their goals are very much alike, just on a smaller more focused scale. Also there are links with similiar motives on the same page only they lead to commercial sites with no real intent to help the salsa scene as my site is. If what you will call "not spamming and not promoting" is placing the link only on one page as others do then I promise to do only that, and by all means monitor the link. But I Honestly say, that in blacklisting SalsaLust Wikipedia denies support for preservation of knowlege, And I expected a little more concern from it.

If you don't agree with me I would appretiate if you let me know with what other means I can convince you the relevance of the link is bold and for the sake of salsa and not for my website wellfare. If more proffessional opinions on salsa would matter to you, I'd be glad to provide contacts or petition of experts around the world who would support it. --Idofle (talk) 12:36, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I request an exception for a (www.oocities) page presenting The Lalumière Report in English] which is a crucial document preceding and explaining the failure of the Multilateral Agreement on Investment in 1998. Without this document, it is impossible to understand why the host nation France withdrew from the MAI, followed by all other OECD nations. There seems to be no other online source. The bot-substitued URL is a dead link. Cheers, Bjenks (talk) 14:36, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

http://webcitation.org/5knuYvqH2 should work, though WebCite sometimes has performance issues. I believe the Wayback Machine also has a copy, but I've been getting errors from them when I tried to search. As such, I would oppose whitelisting the OOCities page, given the trouble we've has with them. Gavia immer (talk) 15:56, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    www.examiner.com/conservative-in-raleigh/army-refuses-soldier-chance-to-clear-his-name

I want to use the link on Murder of Muhamad Husain Kadir, and possibly on User:Geo Swan/look/Jeffrey Waruch, a userspace page I am considering bringing back to DRV. The link itself doesn't look like spam, and I am curious as to why this site is blacklisted. Geo Swan (talk) 12:13, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • OK. I see that User:Stifle has turned down several other requests, stating examiner.com is a site with no editorial control, and that the authors are paid. Payment of authors is traditional for authors of magazine and newspaper articles, so I do not think this is a valid justification for being blacklisted. Geo Swan (talk) 12:41, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is not the payment, it is the overall spam issue. Anyone sufficiently interested can sign up as a contributor and create an article on examiner.com. The writer is paid if they can drive traffic to the page, so a common tactic is to spam it into Wikipedia. Johnuniq (talk) 01:05, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, Geo Swan, the point is not that the editors are paid to write the articles, the issues is that editors can write articles, and get paid when someone is actually following a link to their document (similar to referral links). Anyone, literally anyone, can write a text there, link it from whereever they can, and see the income on their bank account. That is distinctively different from a paid professional, working for an organisation, and other people adding his links here.

The site was blacklisted for editors doing just that, spamming their documents for getting the revenue. Also the owners of the site were spamming the site. Moreover, the site is notoriously unreliable, the data is very often available elsewhere (i.e. the data is scraped - and the data were it was scraped from is often a reliable site), and the site owners are deliberately trying to confuse their sites with news-sites with similar names which are good and reliable sites. There have even been whitelist requests on this type of sites (pay-per-view-type of sites) where the requester was actually stating that they needed to link here, because they needed the income from the site. Also note: a lot of spam does not look like spam, spam is the intention of making money with linking to your site, or promoting your site, which, unfortunately, even happens with the best sites .. SEO is a big business.

That being said, there certainly is good information available on the site, certain documents (even when created with the idea of getting money when people were reading it) are good sources, from serious writers (there are professionals there), and when uninvolved editors ask for whitelisting that specific document, that may very well be granted (and some examiner.com pages are whitelisted). Though in reviewing one should keep in mind that the information will be available elsewhere from more reliable sites.

So that is basically what Stifle asks, and what I will ask as well. Is this information not available elsewhere, and do you consider this information reliable? --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:33, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to use the article at www.suite101.com/content/how-does-adrenaline-work-a193973 as a source for the new article I am working on here. It has exactly the type of information I am looking for (how adrenaline effects the body on a cellular level), and since this article is sourced itself, I think that it can be used as a reliable source. I'm not asking for the whole site to be whitelisted, just this specific article. --WikiDonn (talk) 19:10, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I want to cite www.examiner.com/sci-fi-in-orlando/transformers-convention-coming-to-disney-s-dolphin-resort-botcon-june-24-27 as a reference for the article on BotCon since that article needs more third-party sources. Why is "The Examiner" blocked anyway? NotARealWord (talk) 06:54, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No specific comment on this specific link - examiner.com was abused and spammed (amongs others by site-owners), as it is a pay-per-view-site (you can sign up, start writing documents there, and when you link your documents and people follow the link, you get paid - basically, the more people you tunnel to your document, the more you earn), the site is a huge spam-risk (and de-listings have been requested for the reason of making money ..), moreover, the nature makes it generally a unreliable site, and since anyone can write and earn money there, risks of scraped info &c. are also large. Regarding whitelisting requests, one would need to ask, a) is the information reliable enough, and b) is it not available elsewhere from a (more) reliable site? I hope this explains. --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:58, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Resources.InfoSecInstitute.com

We've been working very hard at providing in-depth valuable material to industry professionals in our field via the site at Resources.InfoSecInstitute.com. One of our 10k word articles - a step-by-step guide to reverse engineering a specific malware - was featured on many national news sites and many of the "A-list" bloggers in Information Security. A recent 8,500 word article is by far the most complete "fuzzing" demo available to the public for free. I'm not sure why our main domain is banned, but I would at least like to be able to provide these free resources to the wikipedia audience since I think it really does qualify as a legitimate value-add resource. Thanks.

    • This was blacklisted for spamming; the normal practice is that specific named URLs are whitelisted when a trusted, high-volume editor requests it in order to use it in a Wikipedia article. See also WP:ELNO item 1. no Declined Stifle (talk) 14:58, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    youtu.be

There is no point at all in blacklisting youtu.be because youtu.be/XYZ is just a short form of the allowed URLs youtube.com/watch?v=XYZ and can't be used for anything at all other than such links to YouTube videos. Ginger Conspiracy (talk) 11:06, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While I generally agree with you, there's no point in whitelisting it, either, since you can just use the long URL without any problems. Gavia immer (talk) 15:19, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why not? I understand the length of the blacklist is limited by software constraints. It seems silly to waste a slot. Ginger Conspiracy (talk) 07:03, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Link is on the global blacklist. Reason for this is that it can be used to circumvent any restrictions on youtube, just like URL shorteners etc. You can use the youtube.com link, so no reason to whitelist. EdBever (talk) 17:31, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
