Poorvottar Sampark Kranti Express is one of the Sampark Kranti Express trains of Indian Railways. It connects New Delhi, the capital city of India with Assam. Earlier it used to run between New Delhi and Guwahati, the capital city of Assam. From March 2016, it is extended up to Silchar. The train is named as Purvottar Express since it connects New Delhi with the north east region of the country, known as Poorvottar in Hindi.

Service

Numbered as 12501/12502, this train takes approximately 31 hours to complete a distance of 1904 km. En route it stops at Goalpara Town, New Bongaigaon, New Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Patliputra Junction, Mughalsarai Junction, Allahabad and Kanpur in both up and down journey, with technical halt at Barauni Junction. This train belongs to Northeast Frontier Railway zone of the Indian Railways.[1][2]

Coaches

The train consists of one composite 1A/2A coach (HA-1), one 2A coach (A-1), four 3A (B-1/B-2/B-3/B-4), eight sleeper, one pantry car, no general coaches and two SLR coaches. Sometimes one or two high-capacity parcel vans may be attached. Total coach count is usually 20 or 21.

Traction

Between Guwahati-Mughal Sarai, the train is hauled by a WDP-4 or WDP-4B of Siliguri diesel loco shed. From Mughal Sarai-New Delhi, mostly WAP 4 from Mughal Sarai/Kanpur/Ghaziabad is used.
