Hello. Can you please explain this edit? I'm not questioning whether it is correct, I just don't understand what changed. I can see that you fixed a couple of links to disambiguation pages but other bits of text are apparently different, according to the diff, but they seem to be exactly the same.

My apologies for not signing my comment. I'll sign now otherwise the comment won't get automatically archived. McLerristarr | Mclay1 14:22, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Your bot made a mistake

  • It changes Native Americans to Indigenous peoples of the Americas[1] instead of Native Americans in the United States. Any bot that just grabs the first link at the top of a disambiguation pages, is going to have plenty of errors. The bot can find links to all disambiguation pages, and perhaps you can put that somewhere, and then people can look through and find the proper links when necessary. Dream Focus 09:17, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
  • [2] It changed precursor to to the nonexistent word of precursorto. Dream Focus 09:21, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Iberians

In 11 c. it was a Byzantine Theme of Iberia (as California in USA). The Bachkovo Monastery was Byzantine Iberian monastery. The Byzantine Theme of Iberia was populated mostly by Armenians. Some modern authors do not correctly identify Iberian monks (11 c.) with Georgian monks. I advise you to read the article of Edouard Selian quoted in the article “Bachkovo Monastery”. Bad dabs: garage

Hi Kitty - re this edit - the garages in question are not those of a house, but are either or both of Automobile repair shop or Filling station. The Morrisons one I'm pretty sure should be Filling station, because they don't do repairs; but I'm not sure about the Grimsbury one. It definitely did motor repairs, but I don't know if they also sold fuel (it's a supermarket now, so I can't really check even though I'm going to Banbury very soon). --Redrose64 (talk) 11:35, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Repaired link to disambiguation page - Kurzeme

Hello. Appreciate your work on fixing links to disambiguation pages, but most of the fixes you did on Kurzeme unfortunately are wrong. As the disambiguation page says, the word Kurzeme means Courland, and now most of the articles you fixed, links to articles with other historical and territorial geography than intended by using the word Kurzeme in the articles. EWS

Hello. I see you just fixed a lot of disambig links from EWS replacing with DB Schenker Rail UK. The article actually has the potential for a future split, (eg Talk:DB_Schenker_Rail_(UK)#Separate_page) and there are suitable more specific pages that redirect there eg English Welsh and Scottish Railway.

I was wondering if it was easy with your admin tools to change those redirects you just fixed to English Welsh and Scottish Railway in case of a future split. If it's too much trouble and is all 'manual' then no problem.Imgaril (talk) 10:53, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi! You seem to have disambiguated a fair number of EMEA links to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, while the correct target should be European Medicines Agency (EMA, formerly EMEA). Could you review your edits please? Otherwise, I'm really impressed with your work here! Cheers, ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 14:24, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 14:59, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

I agree that there should be discussion, but discussion has dragged off and on for years. The page is already close to being formatted as a disambiguation page; every section has a header to a "more information" page. Energy focused on that page would be better spent on any of those subordinate pages. Darker Dreams (talk) 16:38, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

  • It has been discussed, at least twice, the first time in 2007. There was consensus that it should change, though not to what and no action was ever taken. The reasoning has not changed. I agree that there were an inordinately large number of links to that page, but my last survey, however unscientific it may have been, suggested that many if not most of those links should have gone to more specific existing pages rather than the Kansas City page to start with, and they are still wrong if they link to the disambig page. (Not saying that's what you did, I didn't check and I assume from what I see you're better then that.) I've reinstated the change based on previous discussions (as well as a dose of personal judgement and arrogance). Darker Dreams (talk) 04:41, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
    • γνῶθι σεαυτόν, glad you enjoyed that. Normally I wouldn't have made a change that drastic without more discussion, but in this case it's obviously a disambig page that's striving for more at the expense of other pages and in spite of consensus to the contrary. I actually went back in the history and found that it had been a redirect page before, over which there were some disagreements regarding where it should point, and someone decided that making it a real page again was the answer. Pinnace

Hi Woohookitty, I see that you have replaced pinnace in many articles about Napoleonic era ships with Full rigged pinnace. However, my reading of the texts, and the sources, suggests that Pinnace (ship's boat) would in almost all cases be the correct disambiguation. How can we do the switch? Where should Mormon redirect?

Hi. We're having a discussion at Talk:Mormon regarding where this redirect page should point to; the main candidate targets appear to be Mormons and Mormonism. Last March, you reverted a change which had made Mormon point to Mormon (disambiguation) — giving as your edit summary "creates alot of disam issues. More discussion probably advised. 3rd party here...". What, exactly, did you mean by this? Would you be willing to come over to Talk:Mormon and explain in more detail what you saw as the problem then? If Mormon were to be changed again now to be a redirect to the disambiguation page — or if (roughly equivalently?) the disambiguation page were to be renamed "Mormon" — would you still be inclined to object to this change now, as you did back in March? Apologies if there's some issue regarding disambiguation pages that I'm missing here. Thanks for your input. Richwales (talk) 20:29, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Interview with Wikimedia Foundation

Hi Woohoo, I hope you're well. My name is Matthew Roth and I'm a Storyteller working on the 2011 fundraiser with the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco. In past years, we've relied on Jimbo to carry the bulk of the fundraising weight and he's done very well helping us hit our yearly funding targets. This year, however, we're broadening the scope and reach of the fundraiser by incorporating more voices and different people on the funding banners and appeals that will start running full-time on November 7th. We're testing new messages and finding some really great results with editors and staff members of the Foundation. You can see the current progress of the tests here. I'm curious if you would want to participate in an interview with me as part of this process? The interviews usually last 60 minutes and involve a number of questions about your personal editing experiences, as well as general questions about Wikipedia and its impact in the world. Please let me know your thoughts by emailing mroth (at) wikimedia.org. Thanks!

CityRail doesn't operate coaches, however its sister corporation CountryLink does. I think the intention with Coach was this kind of coach http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coach_%28vehicle%29 as CityRail utilises CountryLink's coach vehicles on certain lines not covered by train.

Automatric disambiguation corrections

Your changes of "Girl Scout" to "Girl Scouts of the USA" was good work but at least 8 of them, which I have corrected, were totally inappropriate and the context had no connection with the Girl Scouts of the USA. Ingrid of Sweden, for example, needed a link to the Danish Girl Guides and Kim's Game is international. Many of course were US oriented, but some were not. I hope I have caught all of them. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:08, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:PaddyDoyle.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:PaddyDoyle.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Seeing what you did, I downloaded WPCleaner and will try to figure out how to use it ASAP. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Cheers, Ebikeguy (talk) 16:47, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

  • 3. The gross revenues of each Indian film industry varies each year, Hindi Film Revenue in 2011 is higher.

Hello, over a year ago I advised you of an issue involving the above user, and you intervened. Notwithstanding your feedback to him about using talk pages (and not edit summaries) to voice disputes, he apparently ignored your advice, as he continues to genre war with other editors over metal subgenres. The current case (Alastis article) is highly unusual for the fact that he's involving himself in an issue that is long settled, and even he previously agreed to it.
In my December 2010 message on your talkpage, I also mentioned the intuition that Blackmetalbaz is the long-banned editor Leyasu. I don't say this as a slur but the fact both are from the UK and both have the same style of editing: metal genre wars (particularly gothic-related), sarcastic and abusive edit summaries, excessive cherry picking of external references, and Wikilawyering. As I had said in December 2010, SSP was unable to run an IP check because too much time had elapsed between Leyasu's banning and Blackmetalbaz's account creation (both in 2006). But I'm still 99.99% sure that they're both the same person. Can anything more be done about him? Thanks, --Danteferno (talk) 22:02, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Woohookitty,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC) Young June Sah --Yjune.sah (talk) 22:10, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

is HD back?

Hello woohookity,

I am enemesis. I am not sure if you remember me I was I think called JustinFA about 6-7 years ago when the Headleydown incident took place on the Neuro Linguistic Programming page. I took a small role in trying to defend the article against Headleydown. Of which he was found to be a sock master with multiple socks. Upon reading the Neuro Linguistic Programming article recently I felt compelled to come on board and defend it again. The content and themes are very similar to what they were back then. Although you may not remember me could you please peruse my pages and related articles and look at the Irvine22 SPI case to see that the information I have given is correct to your knowledge regarding a sock of headleydown. Snowded is currently putting together an ANI after being proved that I am not a sockpuppet, if strong enough he could display an article pertaining to meat puppets and reduce his opposition on the article considerably. I think also on NLP talk you may notice similarities in style of strategy to headleydown. I know you have had some rough experiences however, To help clear this matter up it might be of some comfort for other editors and the good of the article to do so. -Thank you-

and regards of course...

Hi Woohookitty,

I noticed that you have made several edits on Wisconsin related articles, so I was hoping you could help me out. The UW-Eau Claire article has been the subject of a couple of controversies these past few weeks. The article was recently accused of engaging in "academic boosterism." I took this accusation to the dispute resolution noticeboard, and I worked out an amicable solution. (I removed some problematic sentences and used more third-party sources). Recently, a user has given the article the Conflict of Interest tag. I assume the user is refering to my edits, as I am by far the most active editor on the UW-Eau Claire article. I know that admins do not engage in "dispute resolution," but I was still hoping you would be kind enough to closely look over the article, not to "pick sides" but to help make useful edits and give constructive advice to all parties involved. Whatever the case, I feel it has been too long since an experienced administrator has worked on the article. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

SkyCable

Hi, I would like to seek your help regarding the article SkyCable. User Webwires who I think the long-term editor and maintainer of the article is insisting that the page is for the cable TV brand. But don't you think it is better [for Wikipedia] if we relegate the article into the company ones and for all? Instead of the cable TV brand, we could assign it to the company and moved skycable, skybroadband, etc... into sub articles. Also a concern of mine is the tone of the page. Obviously Wikipedia is not a directory nor a place to advertise a cable service, don't you think we should make the article more encyclopedic? Thank you. I hope we could make Wikipedia a better place. -My Page (Contact me) 13:02, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

A "See also" section....

Thanks for taking an interest in List of professional cyclists who died during a race. I was wondering, though, why you removed the entire "See also" section. Removing "Race Across America" makes sense - per WP:MOS it shouldn't have even been there, but I am wondering about some of the others. For instance, Motor-paced racing had many cycling deaths (both pacemakers and cyclists) in its early days (and the link does not appear within the text), Liste von tödlich verunglückten Radrennfahrern - List of fatally injured cyclists (German Wikipedia) provides a link to a related - but not identical - article in the German Wikipedia, Madonna del Ghisallo is the patroness of cyclists and so on. Yep. Statesman is a disambiguation article now, PBS. That's why I changed the link. We need to decide if statesman means public figure or politician or diplomat. It is indeed tough. I switched most of the links to politician as that's where the article used to indirectly point to. A little help

Hi Woohookitty,

I'm a frequent contributor of the Spanish Wikipedia.

I translate the article Muisca raft from Spanish.

Can you please read that little article and correct all possible mistakes?

Thanks a lot in advance, have a nice day. --Baiji (talk) 14:50, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Please don't redirect the link from Statesman (disambiguation) to Politician. The disambiguation page expounds on the term at the top and also because the term politician has negative connotations. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Object404 (talkcontribs)

Since this person is not an automobile or a periodical, or many of the other possible meanings of "statesman", linking to the disambiguation page Statesman is inappropriate, even if done intentionally; the fix implemented by Woohookitty was correct. However, to avoid further handwringing over this, I am resolving the issue by linking directly to the wiktionary definition. bd2412 T 19:36, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

a priori

This is one of the stupidest edits I've seen in a while, and I found a bunch of other links to a priori (statistics) that were as absurd as this or more. As far as I know, "a priori" is used in statistics only by confused outsiders where "prior" is appropriate. Obviously when "a priori" is used in the usual epistemological sense, it is not about prior information in statistics. We have an article on that: a priori and a posteriori. And if we didn't have such an article, a red link would be appropriate rather than a like to an article about trunks of trees when elephants' trunks are the apporpriate topic.
