A few tips

Now that you seem to be getting settled in, just a few unsolicited formatting tips!

• Many of the types you're contributing articles on are one-off prototypes. This will mean that many of the standard article fields and sections will be irrelevant or inappropriate. In particular, please don't insert data into the "main user", "introduced", "retired", and "status" fields of the infobox, or the "operators" section of the article body. Or, if you really want to, just make a note like "prototype only" in the status field. Keep in mind that the infobox fields are descriptive of an aircraft project, even if only one example was built. We don't usually include notes like "never" - we just leave the field blank.
• Please wiki engine and weapon types when they appear in the specifications section, and within the article text too, at your discretion.
• Units of measurement must have a space in front of them, so always "162 mph", not "162mph", "110 hp", not "110hp".
• Don't wiki dates unless there is some specific reason to do so; and linking countries is probably only useful in really obscure cases where you think readers may not have heard of the place.
• Since you're contributing articles on fighters at the moment, it will be easy for you to pick up the relevant part of the category scheme. It always follows the pattern nation-role-decade, with the "decade" part being the decade in which the type first flew, so: "British fighter aircraft 1910-1919", "United States fighter aircraft 1960-1969". There are a few little "gotchas" when it comes to nations whose names have changed over the years - you can always browse down the category tree from Category:Fighter aircraft if you're unsure, or just sing out for help if you need it.
• Many manufacturers have their own category as well, and perhaps a navigational footer too. You can look for these under Category:Aircraft by manufacturer and Category:Manufacturer-based aircraft navigational boxes respectively. The latter are a relatively new feature of the project, so there are still many gaps.
• Please include author details for books, thus:

No! Please don't think of it as "messing up" anything! We were all new here once and you have absolutely nothing to apologise for - you're getting the hang of things very quickly. As a further exercise that I think might help, I actually left a step-by-step annotated cleanup of the Fairey F.2 article, which you can see here. Unknown things

Great to see you contributing new articles again!

I just wanted to ask you to be careful of statements like "no further information is known about them or their fate". How do you know that nobody knows anything more about them or their fate? RAF Squadron template

Fantastic work - I can't believe no-one had done that yet! I've moved the template to a more conventional name: {{RAF squadrons}}. The only "gotcha" I can see is that there's a very solid trend on Wikipedia to standardise these tables using the {{navbox}} format, which (among other things) allows large navboxes like this one to be collapsed down out of view. But don't worry - someone else will no doubt address this at some point (even me, if I get the time). In the meantime, you should feel free to start rolling it out across the squadron articles. Maybe you should also check to see that we have equivalent templates for the Wings and Commands as well? --Rlandmann (talk) 20:38, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Bernard

Looks fine to me - we need as many of these as we can get, certainly any manufacturer with more than 2-3 designs should have one.

Just a word of warning - French designations work very differently from how English-speakers expect them to. Designations starting "H" are not a separate sequence; they simply mean Hydravion (which I guess you know is "seaplane") and should be included in the main sequence.

The other big gotcha is that the final digit in a designation often just indicates a subtype. So while the Americans or Germans would go Foo 12A followed by Foo 12B and Foo 12C, the French would go Foo 120 followed by Foo 121 and Foo 122.

So, for example, it's hard to know at first glance whether something like the Bernard H.52 is a "model 52" or a "model 5C".

Some helpful sites when "fleshing out" these templates include the The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Directory of Airplanes: their Designers and Manufacturers, the RAF Museum Thesaurus, and for French types, aviafrance.com. Cheers --Rlandmann (talk) 18:45, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. DYK

I reviewed the article that you started on European route E29 and I found major concerns. You still have some time to fix them. First, DYK articles need to have at least 1500 characters, and this article has around 700. Second, the hook fact used on the main page for the article needs to be sourced by a reliable source. Third, on a related point, you don't have a single reference for the entire article which means that a maintenance tag should be applied stating that the article is unreferenced. I know the expectations for DYK articles are somewhat high, but it's important that DYK features the best new articles. It's a decent accomplishment to have an article appear on the main page! New article requests

Hi again LGF1992UK - it's been a while!

We're now very much on the home straight with Wikipedia:Aircraft encyclopedia topics/4 - only 40 aircraft left to cover - only 5% of the original 830 types on the list!

I was wondering if you'd care to crack open Green & Swanborough again and "take care of" the few remaining vintage fighters on the list? These include:

1. Marinens Flyvebatfabrikk MF.9 - (high priority - my sources on this one are very poor; may possibly be under "Høver")
2. Nieuport VI (currently lumped together under manufacturer, click here to edit)
3. Nieuport 14
4. Nieuport 23
5. Nieuport-Delage NiD 30
6. Nieuport-Delage NiD 39
7. Nieuport-Delage NiD 42

There are a few other "knotty" ones in the list, but we'll get them :) Could you also perhaps take a look and see if the book includes anything under "Kaiserliche Werfte" and if it does, let me know rather than starting an article just yet? There were about 6 different individual types there that need untangling....

French film

Cool. Good to have you on board. Yes a staggering amount of work need doing for French film. One of the most important tasks is completing the lists, adding full list of films by year e.g French films of 1920. If we had more films red linked by year it would give us the scope to work on. An update from adopt a user

Hi there LGF1992UK! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, LGF1992UK. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

2019 US Banknote Contest

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. The Raymond Hesselyn article was promoted to Good Article status on 4 December after being nominated by Zawed.
