I made the mistake of trusting the information in the Spanish-language wikipedia (which states that he was born in Havana) a little too easily. I had overlooked the fact that the Spanish-language wikipedia doesn't include any sources for that allegation. The Italian-language wikipedia, for instance, has several sources, and according to all of them Molina was born in Santa Clara. French political figures

You really have to say a little more for these French political figures. They are undoubtedly notable, if they were members of the legislature. However, we do not use database entries as sole references, because they have no stability, and you really need a printed on more reliable online source than that. Surely there are entires for them in standard French encyclopedias? At the very least, translate the entire French articles and include what references there are there. I use the database of the French National Assembly, which is based on a printed source, the Dictionnaire des Parlementaires français, which can be found online on the website of the National Assembly: [1] . I have begun by creating short articles, initially stating only the most basic facts about French legislators. The idea is, of course, that the articles will later be expanded either by myself or by someone else. Wikipedia articles, after all, tend to begin as rudimentary versions of what they will develop into. This is why one cannot realistically expect a brand new article to have as much content as it will have after some time has passed. Regarding your massive new creations

Hello there, I'm amazed that you create a lot of articles about french political figures, however you are also leaving a trail of stubs, unsourced and uncontextual articles behind. Please instead of translating the article, try to make a text with encyclopedic value, wikipedia is not a directory for every single person, even if it may be notable, articles must have content and context, otherwise the article may not be maintained. Your surname stubs

As mentioned above there is a problem with your many new surname stubs, in that you have given no sources - how do we know that X is a Y-language surname, as opposed to a surname which happens to be held by a member of a Y-country sports team? References are needed for everything.

Another problem: if you create an article like Hamrin (surname), you need to make sure it is accessible from Hamrin. I've added a hatnote in this case, you need to do so or make a disambiguation page entry, as appropriate. Thanks.

But above all, remember, you need to add sources for all your information. If you have no reliably sourced information about a name, you could create a redirect from a name to the single person who has a Wikipedia article and carries that name, or create a disambiguation page for the several name-holders, but without sourced content about the name it is not a surname page. In principle, yes. Miks mitte? (I'm from Finland and I understand Estonian). Compare with other historical categories, such as Members of the Hanseatic League. Categories of this kind add a historical dimension to the articles and make it easier for the reader to situate at a glance each locality in its historical context. There are lots of Wikipedia users who are interested in history as well as in geography and I do think it will be appreciated by those. BTW, the idea is not to single out Estonia among other countries (such as Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, Belarus, Finland, Germany etc), but of those countries I mentioned only Poland, Finland and Germany compare with Estonia in terms of how many localities, relatively speaking (as a % of all the localities in each given country) are covered with Wikipedia articles. Latvia, for instance, in spite of its slightly larger size seems to have a much smaller amount of articles about localities than Estonia (I haven't counted them, but the difference seems obvious). I have done some work on Lithuanian and Belarusian localities as well, and those countries seem even more scarcely covered with articles about localities than Latvia, so adding the corresponding categories to them will not take so much time as with Estonia. Of course I understand the necessity to give historical dimension to settlements, but I seriously doubt that the categories are the best solution it this case. And if it fits the WP:CAT policies. Your example Category:Members of the Hanseatic League is kinda different because it consists only of cities/towns that were included in the league. The governorate on the contrary consisted of thousands of settlements. I personally recommend giving this information via text (e.g. lists if necessary). If we continue the method you've carryied out, we should also include categories like Bishopric of Ösel–Wiek, Duchy of Estonia, Dorpat Voivodeship, and even cats like Ugandi, Sakala and Nurmekund for example in Estonia. And of course we are not talking only about Estonia, if the method gains general consent, it would be implemented everywhere. Would this category maze really help readers to navigate in WP? Yes it would, and it does. Consider, for instance, the category Shtetls, a category which includes those towns in Eastern Europe which had a large Jewish population up to the 1940s. Most shtetls were situated within the Pale of Settlement or in Austria-Hungary. The list of shtetls is long, but not a single locality included within the category Shtetls (such as Bila Tserkva, Husiatyn or Kolomyja) can anymore be characterized as a shtetl, as the Jewish population of those towns is nowadays (for well-known reasons) only a small fragment of what it used to be. Because of this, the category Shtetls is about historical geography. Indeed, Shtetls is a subcategory of Historic Jewish communities, which is a subcategory of Historical geography. Categories such as Governorate of Livonia are situated within this same scheme (Historical geography). As for the hypothetical examples you mentioned, such as Bishopric of Ösel-Wiek and so on, I personally have no such plans and I regard somewhat unlikely that someone would take the trouble to create those categories. Most categories will very probably deal with more recent history than those you mentioned. As regards your worries about the potentially large number of articles within each category, let's take an example: there are about 3900 articles about cities, towns, boroughs and villages situated in present-day independent Estonia. If we sort them all out according to the governorate to which they used to belong, roughly half (or a little less) will fit within the Governorate of Estonia and the other half (or a little more) within the Governorate of Livonia. If the number of maybe 1800 articles within the category Governorate of Estonia seems too large (BTW, Wikipedia includes a large number of much larger categories than that), nothing prevents us from following the example of the Estonian-language Wikipedia and creating subcategories for each kreis, of which there were four within the Governorate of Estonia and six within that part of the Governorate of Livonia which now belongs to independent Estonia. And if even that isn't enough, we can follow the example of the Estonian-language Wikipedia still one step further and create subcategories for every single kihelkond/Kirchspiel/volost. If the need arises, I'm prepared to do just that. After all, as I mentioned before, it's precisely what has been done in the Estonian-language Wikipedia. Lekoren (talk) 13:56, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Every article begins as a stub. To state the obvious: I have no intention of leaving those articles in the rudimentary state in which they have begun. I find it a little odd that you wrote your message only 17 minutes after I had begun the first one of those articles, as if you assumed that I wasn't going to put more content into those new-born articles. Blind editing

While you enjoy criticizing others, you should note that you are blindly adding categories to hundreds of articles without looking what is in the article. Even if you are correct, the information in the article appears to refute the category you are adding. The result is an article which is internally inconsistent. Perhaps instead of getting rude on people's talk pages, you should make review the articles you edit to insure that the category you are adding is consistent with the information contained in the article. Thank you for your assistance.

Hundreds? Last time I checked, the category we are talking about had 88 articles in it. I'm very much aware of the fact that the demographics in most county articles are outdated (=based on the 2000 Census), but that is hardly my fault. There are thousands of editors "out there" who could have updated them many times over by now, but in spite of this, most county articles look like the 2010 United States Census had never happened. The point is this: if I add census-based categories to the articles, I have to use the 2010 Census instead of the outdated 2000 Census (which most county articles still quote). You seemingly assumed that the 2000 Census results were still valid and, based on that erroneous assumption, reverted a couple of my edits (which were based on the 2010 Census). As you seemed to be unaware of the results of the 2010 Census, I had no alternative but to tell you that your reverts were based on outdated information. The article on each vilayet probably already includes the main divisions, so at the end of that section I suggest you also list the cities/major towns that are currently in the category. When you have done each one, please add a note e.g. "Done" alongside its entry in the list at WP:CFDWM. The reference we are talking about is certainly not something that you "have to subscribe to", as you for some unfathomable reason seem to think. It's the historical database of the Parliament of Finland and it can't really get any more official than that. Seemingly you don't know that basic information in articles about members of national legislatures usually comes from official parliamentary databases just like this one. Check out, for instance, the huge number of short articles (and their references, in French) about members of the French National Assembly. As for your strange claim that only English-language sources would supposedly be acceptable: you can try that bluff with some total newbie, but not with me. I've been around long enough to know that sources in other languages than English are considered totally acceptable and, more than that, regularly used. If we were to prohibit using sources in other languages than English, over 90% of existing articles about politicians from non-English-speaking countries (and large numbers of articles about other topics) would have to be slashed because of their references being in French, Spanish, Russian, German, Swedish etc, which would be absurd. Hi, have you considered registering to Wikidata? I noticed you created a lot of articles about Finnish MPs, I added a lot of them to Wikidata so that the Finnish Wikipedia link shows here and the English one in the Finnish Wikipedia. If you're logged in to Wikidata, all you have to do is click "Add links" from the bottom left, write "fiwiki" and the corresponding Finnish Wikipedia article.

Information about surnames

Hi there. I reverted a few edits you made to two counties in West Virginia, where you added info about the most common surnames in the county. I'm not trying to be confrontational, but this seems kind of trivial. Many editors use WP:USCITIES as a guide for adding data to cities, as well as counties, and I didn't see anything in there about adding surnames. What do you mean? First, I'm not German. Second, I have absolutely no sympathy for German nationalism in any form. Third, the old placenames are of historic interest, quite in the same way as the Polish placenames in those territories presently in Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania, which have formerly been part of Poland. To be logical, you should also oppose including the name Lwów for the city now officially called Lviv, and including the name Wilno for the city now officially called Vilnius. As I have personally included many Polish placenames of historical interest in articles about localities in former Polish territories in the East (the Kresy), I take very serious exception to your attitude and to your insinuations. I didn't say you were German nor do I care. The situation with Lwov/Lviv, Vilnius/Wilno or even Gdansk/Danizg for that matter is very different then the situation with some obscure village of like 5 people in the middle of central Poland whose only connection to "German history" is that it was occupied by the Nazis. Same goes for your comparison with Volhynia. One can argue for adding the German names for places like Szczecin or Gdansk, but there is absolutely no reason to spam these names (including Nazi names) into places in Lodz voivedoship or similar.

The fact that you claimed that the establiced practice of including exonyms in articles about localities is a sign of nationalistic POV clearly implies that you accuse those who have (for several years already) been adding exonyms of being guilty of nationalism (even though it is a well-established practice). Obviously, you're implying that those who add German exonyms out of historical interest are in reality trying to advance a German nationalist agenda. According to the same logic, anyone can, of course, accuse those who add Polish exonyms to e.g. Lithuanian localities of trying to advance a Polish nationalist agenda. And further, according to the same logic, those (such as myself) who have added both Polish and German exonyms to arcticles would be simultaniously Polish and German nationalists, which is, of course, absurd. Besides, the size of the locality doesn't matter. The established practice is that if a locality is important enough to have a wikipedia article, it is important enough to have its exonym added. Even villages in Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine have had their Polish exonym added, not only large cities such as Lwów/Lviv or Wilno/Vilnius. The same goes for small localities in other countries (BTW, I wonder if there really exists an article about a Polish village of only five inhabitants or is that merely a figment of your imagination; if such an article exists, there is no doubt a good reason for it). You mention Gdańsk (German: Danzig) and Szczecin (German: Stettin) as examples of something one can possibly "argue about", but actually that's not the case, unless you're willing to try arguing against an established practice, which would no doubt prove to be a very frustrating experience for you. The places you specifically refer to (in the Łódź Voivodeship) were not merely occupied by Germany between 1939 and 1945, but were part of the territory which was actually annexed to Germany between 1939 and 1945, such as Reichsgau Wartheland and some other areas (we're not talking about the General Government, which was governed as a colony, not as an integral part of Germany). The areas which were officially made part of Germany were, as you know, subjected to intensive germanisation, including ethnic cleansing against a large part of the Polish population and settlement of ethnic Germans from the Baltic countries and elsewhere in Eastern Europe. A germanisation of the names of those places in the newly-annexed territories which didn't yet have a German exonym was an integral part of this policy. The point here is that the German exonyms are needed precisely in order to document this period of intensive germanisation, which is not only a part of German history but actually even more of Polish history. The Second World War was, after all, no mere parenthesis of history, but a very important period, especially for Poland. One may, of course, for the sake of additional clarity, add a specification, which would look something like this: Polishname (German: 1939-45 Germanname). As those localities are referred to in contemporary German sources by their official (German) names, excluding those exonyms would amount to suppressing historically relevant information, which is never a good thing. I'll give you a concrete example. You and I know that Volhynia no longer belongs to Poland but to Ukraine. Articles about Volhynian localities include their Polish placenames, some of them added by myself. If we were to apply your personal logic, those Polish placenames ought to be erased from those articles (which many Ukrainian nationalists, in the tradition of what the UPA did to erase the Polish population of Volhynia between 1943 and 1944, would no doubt welcome, as an anti-Polish attitude is an integral part of their ideology.). It that really what you want? You cannot have it both ways. You either have Polish exonyms in Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania and German exonyms in Poland or you have neither. Besides, including old German placenames in articles about Polish localities is no invention of mine and the vast majority of them have been added by editors other than myself. Including exonyms in articles about localities is an established practice and localities in Poland obviously cannot be an exception from this practice, which is why I really don't get your point. Moreover, you seem to have serious trouble understanding written words, even though I did my utmost to express myself so simply that even you would understand. As the words I wrote seemingly have failed to penetrate your intellect, I have no choice but to try again and hope that this time you would (by some miracle perhaps) at last comprehend what I have been trying to tell you. First, as I told you, the size of of locality has absolutely no relevance at all (as exonyms are included in articles about numerous small villages in many countries, such as Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine), so you simply cannot use it as an argument. Second, you obviously don't understand the difference between occupation and annexation, so I'll do my utmost to make you grasp this crucial distinction. The part of Poland which was "merely" occupied (but not annexed) by Nazi Germany was called the General Government, as you should know. In the General Government, the placenames were not germanised. In those territories which were annexed, which means that they were officially made integral parts of Germany, such as Reichsgau Wartheland (to which a part of the territory of Łódź Voivodeship was annexed), either already existing German exonyms were made official or, in those many cases where the placename sounded too Slavic for Nazi tastes, the name was germanised. Third, "offensive" is not a real argument unless we're dealing with small children. You cannot use it about historical facts. Germanised placenames in those areas which were governed as integral parts of the German state (and not merely as occupied territories) are hard and cold historical facts. As a fact is always value-neutral by definition, to call an indisputable fact "offensive" is simply childish and, even worse, subjective. Besides, if we were to allow that kind of vetoing of facts in the name of supposedly hurt nationalist sensitivities, it would open the gates for any fool to claim that mentioning this or that fact is "offensive" from the highly subjective viewpoint of the one who happens to be currently complaining. Since you mentioned Donetsk (formerly known as Stalino), I'm pretty sure that someone could be found to claim that including the name of Stalino is "offensive", since it includes the name of a certain Georgian-born dictator who has left a rather dark memory of himself in history. This brings us to your attempt to compare Donetsk and "Verkuta" (you must mean Vorkuta) with localities which have at some point been actual parts of Germany. This comparison is invalid, and there's a very simple reason for it: Donetsk and Vorkuta have never been parts of the territory of the Polish state. Smolensk, however, is a little different, since it actually belonged to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth for a while, so there actually is a good case for including the Polish exonym, even though it's merely an orthographical rendering of the way the name of that city is pronounced in Polish: Smoleńsk. I'm not going to press too hard, but you should know there are many editors and admins who think even letting this stuff stay on WP for more than an hour is beyond the pale. If you were to cut and paste your additions based on geni.com to Talk pages, leaving it there for slow-motion fixing, I see no reason anyone could complain.
