Concise wikipedia proposal

Made a proposal at here for a concise edition of wikipedia which is formatted much like an old book encyclopedia with the bare main facts and a smallish word limit for articles as a reference point. Can't imagine all would support, but any input from anybody would be warmly welcome.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:45, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not a bad idea but why should it be formatted like an old book? Maybe the first priority would be to define volume in terms of both length of individual articles and overall length of the publication. Maybe max. 500 words per article and 100,000 articles for the enterprise. --Ipigott (talk) 21:22, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I was thinking that, a virtual book. And yes, 400-500 words I was thinking of. Also proposed a scaling of the Geograph project to a global one, imagine having access to photos of every square kilometre of Danish islands for instance!! ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:27, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiGeograph (or perhaps WikiGeophotograph) seems a better name. I was not aware of the existence of the UK Geograph and have just been playing around with it. I found the navigation very easy and discovered lots of photos of places I know well. Yes, it would indeed be great to have the same approach for Denmark - and of course for Luxembourg too. But maybe it would be more manageable to take it one continent or country at a time, starting with Europe, at least to assist project management. --Ipigott (talk) 08:22, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't that already kinda what Simple Wikipedia does? The articles are shorter, simpler and don't have all the details of the WP ones and if the person wants a longer one they can come here. Kumioko (talk) 09:22, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. Simple wikipedia is simple English and articles may be as long as anybody wishes. Simple and concise are not the same thing.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:51, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I am fairly new to it but have been editing there quite a bit this month and it seems that the general attitude there is that the article should be simply written and short, lacking many of the deep in the weeds details that would be required for an article here to make it to FA. The general attitude seems to be that if the reader wants to get more details then they can simply go to the larger more complete article (presumably) here if they want more info. Kumioko (talk) 14:06, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
First, I am thrilled to see that you are still active, Kumioko. I have been thinking for some years about trying to do something there, but bloody things keep popping up on an almost daily basis here. Basically, my own impression, for what little that might be worth, is that a lot of the content there is, more or less, a bit longer than the lede sections in the main wikipedia are supposed to be. That is in no way bad, but I myself think, maybe, it might not be a bad goal to have most of the articles for a possible "concise wikipedia" to be basically about as long as our ledes here, with maybe some of the more involved articles, like United States, Christianity, Physics, and others a bit longer, serving as sort of an equivalent to the Britannica macropedia articles. Maybe. Anyway, Kumioko, if you ever deal with any content relating to Christianity over there, and think that maybe some discussion of it in the Christianity newsletter here would help, let me know, or, if you want, maybe even write out what you want to include in it. John Carter (talk) 01:29, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Kumioko (talk) 02:00, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, technically every wikipedia article should have a book encyclopedia type lead summary. Unfortunately the vast majority don't have a decent lead...

Since I don't keep track of going ons on Meta much, please keep me abreast of any developments in relation to this project. Thanks. Volunteer Marek  02:32, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not likely much, the response has been a little underwhelming. When 10 times as many people comment on an RFA than a new encyclopedia proposal it makes you wonder why you bother...♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 16:28, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I still think this is an excellent proposal. The only reason for my hesitation in becoming actively involved is that I tend to commit myself to too many things at the same time. But I am nevertheless a strong supporter of the idea. --Ipigott (talk) 21:27, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I think we all have the same thoughts about commitment to such a project. but its just those who are interested in the concept initially I guess. Such a project would pick up contributors anyway if it was created.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 16:50, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think we do have enough support, but just not clarity in them. Maybe a plan on the issue might help. Everyone has different ideas about everything else. So a point-by-point discussion might help. (P.S. I dont check the meta much so it might help if you just tell me when something happens there) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 06:48, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This source. You should format the title, publisher. author, date and access date info.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:04, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done - Thanks for noting. You are really sharp. When you get working intensely on an article you develop tunnel vision. Your fisheyes are wide-angled. Let me know IF you see anything else and I will correct and improve accordingly.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:51, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Remove empty fields in the citation plates, take up unnecessary room. Try to format the dates consistently, I write them as 1 December 2012 as I think it looks neater. Like LA Times, Find a Grave needs publisher split from the title and the exact title given. Lead needs significant expansion to summarize the article.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:56, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

O.K. will go to work on that. Muchas gracias for hints.
On the hook I opted for ... that Eugene Turenne Gregorie was a designer of the 1936 Lincoln-Zephyr referred to as "the first successfully streamlined car in America"?
However the source you noted has a potential hook line, which I reworded in the article as Gregory was ultimately given the accolade of being the "grand old man" of Ford car design.[9]
Any ideas on improvement on hook line? If you don't mention anything, I'll assume the hook line I submitted is alright.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:10, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator's penis

I saw this the other day and immediately thought of you. It is Warsaw's Palace of Culture and Science or as the local's call it, Stalin's penis. I'm sure you could add that to one of your penis articles someplace. Hmmm, I see a penis and think of you... there are so many ways to spin that.

Not sure if you knew about the adopted changes regarding administrator's coming back. Bgwhite (talk) 21:46, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

provinces

Sure, will look at sourcing Luang Prabang Province history. Still tidying up the refs, tedious, but it has to be done. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:30, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like much of the history is verbatim from here. I'm too tired to chop it out (probably should just blank out the history to be safe), but it needs a total re-write. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:12, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ergh, I got it from the main city article. I can't actually access that source though..♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:36, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How close are we to getting this project done, i.e. can you figure out which provinces need more work vs. which ones have enough content? I want to concentrate on the right ones vs. bouncing around the way I've been doing it. Also, I see you're currently at 991. Do you have other noms which will take you over the threshold, or are you still shooting for the Lao mega-hook? --Rosiestep (talk) 02:37, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cool! BTW, I'm working through these today. I'll be editing "Protected area" section of the specific province, so shouldn't interfere with your edits. In the main sandbox, I created a header for "Meets requirements"; when you think an article is ready, please move it into there. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:16, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely will not move anything!! Figure you'll be the one to pull the trigger on that. Great about the maps; and BTW I love the montages. Just saw the Luang Namtha map; it's awesome! Will do at the end of the day. Regarding the new maps: I love them, just not sure about the forced left placement. Try looking at them from firefox and chrome (don't know what you use). Wonder what they'd look like in the Admin/Districts section on the right as there's a gaping while space on the right. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:14, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:SaimirKumbaro.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:SaimirKumbaro.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 21:02, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removed something from an article

Okay, so I was just wondering if I did something right. If you look at the edit history on Shammi Kapoor, there was this bit of stuff in the lead section, and I removed it, because it was a direct lift from the reference, and it wasn't capitalized properly. But what worries me more that it was sort of slandering Rajesh Khanna. OK, slander's a strong word, but still. If the editor comes back, rephrases it and puts the reference back, will it still qualify to be put up there? Also, the notice on the article about it being edited by a source related to the subject, but there's no proof for that. It's been there for eons and eons. Red Hat On Head (talk) 00:46, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just revert such edits, they're common on Indian articles. I see you have done so.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 11:04, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, what about the notice? Ryan tried contacting the editor - no response. It's been a couple months now. Can I just remove it? And I did see you got Dimple Kapadia to GA! Good job! Red Hat On Head (talk) 23:31, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just remove it, yeah. Thanks, Rekha and Amitabh sometime maybe..♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 12:39, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay! :D One last question - do YouTube videos count as references? I'm not saying those lousy user-made ones, but like the "Shammi Kapoor Unplugged" stuff as references? They're recounted by Shammi Kapoor himself, so is it okay? Red Hat On Head (talk) 17:11, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Big Brother,

I need some consultation from you, if you can help me. This article that I just wrote up and submitted to DYK needs a picture of the person. I can not seem to locate a copyright free image - so, may have to enter a Fair Usuage picture. An example I would like to use is from Carl Breer, Executive Engineer is the second picture down of a portrait of him from the Jim Benjaminson collection . Do you think that would be alright as a Fair Usage picture for the article? I'll capture it and enter as Fair Use if you think it is alright. Its a low quality picture, so I don't see a problem - and you?--Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:31, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He's dead, and died over 40 years ago so yeah, a fair use image of him is fine.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:25, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Picture looks good in article.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:57, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, File:Carl Breer 1900.jpg is a free image. Unless the image in the infobox is pre 1923 then you can't use it. You can only use a fair use image if no free alterative is available. As it is, the fair use justification is invalid and you should use the 1900 image which in my opinion is a superior image anyway...♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 14:50, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

3 Star Michelin Restaurants

Thought you might be interested in this site by Andy Hayler. It's beginning to make me wonder if it might be possible to simply have an article with every three star restaurant on the same table, rather than splitting them up amongst countries as I previously thought. Although I'm wondering if the historic French restaurants might throw a spanner in the works... but I just can't see there being more than an extra fifty restaurants - after all, its not like those types of restaurants simply come and go. Hence, I've added your contributions back with some bits cleaned up and many words linked to their respective articles. I think it looks pretty decent now, but do tell me if you spot anything disagreeable. I've been eager for some help on this article for the best part of four years, but nobody's come forward with anything new for a while. Grisha Goryachev

I'm not finding anything reliable after a quick search, but according to a comment on this page, the Classical Guitar in Russia and the USSR encyclopedia published in 1992 shows his date of birth as December 29, 1977. I'll keep looking.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); December 11, 2012; 15:45 (UTC)

I've also found another page (on some guitar wiki) which gives the same date. Google books search for "Гриша Горячев 1977" also returns page 416 of the encyclopedia I mentioned above, although neither text nor snapshots are available. As far as guesses go, this one is pretty good methinks, but of course it would be better to find either another source confirming this date, or someone who can check the paper copy of that encyclopedia.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); December 11, 2012; 16:02 (UTC)

Cornish settlements

Re: Cornwall === Yeah, it twasn't a good idea to stub them all, I took for granted they were all settlements as such but a lot appear to be farms. I'm all for coverage of tiny hamlets/farms which only appear on OS maps like Goldsland as I think it makes us more valuable as a resource, but only of course if sources can be found. I think a lot of the farms should probably be redirected to nearby villages. I've created Category:Farms in Cornwall anyway, might have missed some from the geography cat, if you could catch those I'd be grateful. Regards♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:44, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry not to reply earlier but I have got involved with other topics. For the time being I am unlikely to do much sustained work on these as it is rather time-consuming and some of them are so small they could fail a notability test. One way of improving them would be to work through Craig Weatherhill's A Concise Dictionary of Cornish Place-Names (Evertype, 2009) ISBN 978-1-904808-22-0 (I have a printed copy) noting the earliest record and the etymology he gives. Other editors who have been active in this area in the past have been User:AndyF (retired) and User:Zangar who has made an annotated list of Cornwall-related stub articles.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 10:50, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion regarding WikiConcise

Your proposal for WikiConcise seems to be hitting the dust. I see three reasons why this would happen- 1. Not enough coverage in village pump etc so other users can notice 2. Not enough active users on meta (I personally use en wiki a hundred times more than meta) 2. Not enough consensus and clarity among the editors to put it into action - Everyone simply proposed whatever struck their imagination, without realising what others had been saying.

What I suggest is that we make an optional group/WikiProject/Userspace project or anything of some sort, where we invite others to make concise versions of Original Wikipedia articles, and store them in the unified Userspace. Being in the En wiki domain, we can get much more coverage; and having only a few people initially, (Possibly contacting only those who signed on the WIkiConcise page), we will be much more efficient in decision making. Once the project is decided upon more-or-less, and picks momentum among editors willing to contribute we can then invite other editors to join in (through Village pumps) and if it becomes big enough, we can always propose to make it separately under Meta, and simply move all our userspace articles there.

What do you think of this idea? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 19:19, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It has had more of a response than most proposals made there with 22 supports so far but yes, given that over 100 people turn out at a single FA the response has been rather underwhelming. I'd hoped that the foundation would take the initiative to discuss it further amongst themselves and see how much potential such a project could have and help publicize it more. Yes we could do that, but my feeling is a lot of editors here would think of such a project as a fork and would rather but the effort into WP:LEAD which gives a summary and benefits us. And they have a point.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 19:24, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with WP:LEAD is that it still remains a part of the article, and as it turned out, quite a few people would rather see a concise version than have the entire article load on their screens, and having to browse down if the lead is not succinct enough.
As long as we have an initial group of editors who think that Concising is better than WP:LEAD, our work shall be done. I dont think that once the project starts rolling, people will still not see why we want concise, not lead. They possibly might realise the larger of the two benefits. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 19:33, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly, not to mention that WP:LEAD does not give a summary of articles in a category which this concise edition would. I think it could be an important learning tool and especially useful as a reference using mobiles. I don't know about other people but I really want a traditional sort of encyclopedia layout in which articles are short but adequately written which highlights the main points and is consistent, without having to go through the bloat or visit articles devoid of even the basic info. Anyway, help in promoting this would be much appreciated.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 19:53, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I would also love having a traditional encyclopedia which can be updated to meet the needs of the times, and the changing news (The one place wiki scores over EB if we were to go traditional). Although I would personally prefer only a limited number of articles, say the 1000 most important articles. It would ensure we do not see unimportant stubs on some obscure albums by an equally obscure band. What do you think of that?
What can be done to promote this? And how can I personally help in doing that? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 20:12, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know about 1000 most popular articles as most of them would be Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Britney Spears, sex positions and evil American politicians, but certainly the initial aim could be to cover the Britannica topics of its last publication as a starting point or to highlight 1000 important articles ourselves and what we consider to be core/high importance articles we really need reliable consistent length articles on. I would rather prefer a virtual book format too which in searching for something would bring you to the page with it on and also give the option to explore the category it is in as if in a chapter of a book. I'll ask Jimbo tomorrow what he thinks the best thing to do with this is. I think you may be right about trying to get some foundations laid on here first.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:17, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I did say 1000 most important articles, not popular. Maybe you misread that.
Alright. With luck, some other users shall also respond positively and we might make some progress and get people to actually get started with something here TheOriginalSoni (talk) 20:36, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, to have much stricter content requirements, anything which would not be found in a traditional encyclopedia excluded. I'd accept notable albums which have extensive book coverage like Dark Side of the Moon or Revolver, but the criteria would have to be strict. Of course there are thousands of articles, geo articles or biographies, even plays or films or whatever which never appeared in old general encyclopedias but if they are encyclopedic appropriate include them. Stick to traditional encyclopedic subjects generally though I think. Minor Pokemon characters, James Bond villains, Chris Brown's new single, Buffy the Vampire episodes, Crappy My Space bands wouldn't cut the mustard.. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:50, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am much more in favour of strictly allowing only a given (x) number of articles. That will force us to focus only on the highest quality and importance articles, rather than have 4 articles on preparation, background, aftermath and response of 9/11. We could also merge very closely related articles, and get things shown in the true Concise way. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 18:11, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there

Hello good doctor, see you are busy as always. Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Vietnamese)#Capitalizing Province etc., your name cited in good context here. Would appreciate checking with you on how you intended your advice implemented. Your advice on capitalization seems to have been entangled with undiscussed moves countrary to recent VN RfC majority and countrary to VN geo RMs to retain Vietnamese names for Vietnamese provinces, which I don't think you support. Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:09, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I've asked a follow up question there. My concern is to avoid moves capitalizing provinces, which is fairly anodyne, being associated with disruptive db-G6 moves and Vietnamese-accent stripping. Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 11:54, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Very sad demise of a Bharat Ratna awardee, an iconic sitar player. We can write some related articles. You may like to contribute to these Maricha, of epic Ramayana, which is almost finished and Kaurwaki, a historical figure who was the wife (first, second or third is not known) of Emperor Ashoka. I ahve asked Redtiger also to contribute. The Laos template is yet to be moved to DYK talk page, but I don't know how to add names to all articles as at present names of authors for 8 articles appears.--Nvvchar. 08:42, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There are far more serious issues than copy–editing in that article. The article is almost wholly based on primary sources. The non–Anandamurti sources like Lombardo (Xlibiris) and Garda (AuthorHouse) are WP:SPS (could also be primary if the authors are disciples or members of AM). Right now the article looks more like a AM pamphlet and less like an encyclopedia entry. Correct Knowledge«৳alk» 05:59, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Right now I am working on getting Priyanka Chopra to FA. It is awaiting a copy edit from the guild, but I also have almost half a dozen "helpers" on that one. I wouldn't mind you giving some opinions. I was also working on Kuch Kuch Hota Hai for GA, but I am somewhat stuck for new info on that one right now. Do you want to have a look at it? Colbert is intelligent, but I've never liked his delivery as much as I like Stewart's. He actually got his start on Comedy Central working with Jon Stewart, though, so they come from the same school of thought. Letterman's a nasty little man; I try to avoid watching him as much as possible. Chelsea Handler is a waste of space. Jeremy Kyle I don't know, but I gather I don't want to find out. I didn't watch a lot in the 90's, so I'm not sure who it could have been - Ricki Lake, perhaps? She's back on TV now. "Banka" village in Uttar Pradesh

According to this BBC News article, there's a temple to the Goddess of English in "Banka village, Uttar Pradesh". However, at Banka we seem to have villages of that name in Bihar state but not in Uttar Pradesh state.

Is it likely that Banka village exists in Uttar Pradesh but we don't have an article on it, or that it's referred to by some other name, or that the BBC are confused about what state it's in, or something else? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 22:28, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lakhimpur Kheri District: Lakhimpur Kheri here, here and here. You will have seen the Op-Ed piece in the NY Times? But we don't list the village in the district article. Yngvadottir (talk) 06:14, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

NEED your help. You see now the counter is 304251. This highly likely comes from my replacements of redirects with the direct link. We can very easy get ~3000 more, with just replacements.

I have many more plans on improvements, but we need some more tool support. This streamlining may also help with going towards a concise WP. NVanMinh (talk) 22:49, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Swedish localities

Hi,

The latest official data from Statistics Sweden is:

  • "Localities 2010, area, population and density in localities 2005 and 2010 and change in area and population". Statistics Sweden. 29 May 2012. Archived from the original on 17 December 2012. {{cite web}}: Unknown parameter |deadurl= ignored (|url-status= suggested) (help)

Other tables are available at http://www.scb.se/Pages/ProductTables____13013.aspx

I updated all articles back in January. However, they all have the Swedish tabel as a source. Cheers --Skizziktalk 12:16, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New page creation

Dr. Blofeld, this has been asked of you before, I'll ask it again now: when you create new pages with a dismbiguator in the page name, please don't use template:pagename as the start of the article, but use the article name without the disambiguator. Something like Yeşilçukurca, Bozüyük shouldn't start with "Yeşilçukurca, Bozüyük is a village" but with "Yeşilçukurca is a village". You have created numerous similar articles, all with the same problem. It is minor, but with the sheer number of articles it does add up.

The same change also needs to be made in the infobox of the article, at the "name" parameter. The disambiguator is not part of the village name, only of the article name. Fram (talk) 16:00, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Further, what checks do you make to prevent e.g. Dodurga, Bozüyük vs. Dodurga, Bilecik? Fram (talk) 16:10, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fram, it's sorted, Thine is going through after me. And eventually pages which don't need dabbing will be moved to plain names so what is the problem? They are being created this way to ease facilitation between the Turkish wikipedia article which uses the same system.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 16:44, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, I'm fixing them. :) Thine Antique Pen (talk) 16:46, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yaylapınar, Bayburt created on 14th Dec. Not a problem. Anome will add coordinates in due course, I'll prompt him again now. Now go and create us some Belgium comics Fram and stop fussing, grrrrr LOL. At some point a lot of missing dab pages will need to be done, but I think that can be sorted out later; the amount of people searching for the names in Turkish will be minimal. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 16:48, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not talking about creating disambiguation pages, I'm talking about creating two pages for the exact same location, like the two Dodurgas above.
As for "it's sorted", things like Gökçedere, Çubuk, from July 2012, still have the same problem, so forgive me if I'm a bit sceptic of claims that these things are sorted. See e.g. a previous run, that created Yeniköy, Kuşadası, Yaylaköy, Kuşadası, Soğucak, Kuşadası, Kirazlı, Kuşadası, Çınarköy, Kuşadası, ... Fram (talk) 08:26, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you could evaluate which haven't been sorted I'll try to organize an AWBer to fix em.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 12:29, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No idea how to find them easily now, that's the main reason why getting it right immediately is the easier solution of course. I'll try to think of something (going through all places in Turkey is a possibility, but you hava made similar runs for other countries as well of course). As long as you try not to add any new ones with the same problem, that would be a nice start. Fram (talk) 13:11, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The old ones were created with a dodgy source, I arranged for that to be fixed with the government verifiable link. At some point I intend to go through adding population data; the text is hidden within the articles. But Thine Antique Pen is pretty on the ball with this and I trust him to take of the articles I am creating currently. I'll check every few districts to see that this is the case.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:14, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, once the great Yngvadottir has finished of course, although I might still have some additions, quite a lot of material in google books I think.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:10, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hah, thanks for the flattery ... since it's at or nearly at its 5-day anniversary, you might want to nominate it before I am finished loading it up with sources; all or most of the parts are there, I just have to work around the chaos off-wiki and make it less dependent on Petropoulos' books. Yngvadottir (talk) 05:11, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Settlement 24414 to Infobox settlement 304294

But there may be some lag and maybe in a few hours the number jumps up by 500. NVanMinh (talk) 06:30, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A new counter tool shows 335392 including redirects. NVanMinh (talk) 07:18, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Of course it also doesn't cover the thousands of settlements which should use infobox settlement but have wikiprojects opposing the changes.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:30, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this is additional. But I hope we can at least consolidate the others, where no specialized code exists. See:

Due to the redirects, it is only "302168" and only in position 159. This is a misrepresentation. Persondata has 1 million. Where could settlement be...

Would you help to get rid of the redirects? At least all the upper case stuff should be deleted, so no one uses this ever again: Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2012 December 18#Template:Infobox County. I have so many plans, but the opposition against streamlining without any benefit (what are the upper case versions for?) is surprising. NVanMinh (talk) 01:10, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

‹The template Category link is being considered for merging.› Category:Songs by key may be useful; my own knowledge of pop music is so woefully inadequate as to be not worth taking into consideration. Personally, I'd create it; yes, songs can be, and frequently are, transposed, but if the article deals with a particular version by a particular performer then I don't see why it couldn't be used. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:54, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Two more days there will be the next WP DB report. NVanMinh (talk) 07:41, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Herfabach has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This article has not been expanded and contains no useful information.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Kindleworm (talk) 00:02, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's not a legitimate deletion rationale. Most of our articles need expansion but meet notability requirements. Did you scout for sources? You should be assessing WP:Notability NOT how much content an article has. Notable subjects will always be notable, however short.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 09:42, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nostradamus

I had a look at the Knut Boeser book, but it isn't and doesn't pretend to be, a factual work of scholarship (it's a novelisation of a film). I also checked out Edgar Leoni's large book. The problem seems to be that the bulk of Nostradamus literature concentrates primarily on the prophecies and interpretations of them. So far as the biography is concerned I reckon the article is probably factually OK and as full as the available material permits. However, I agree with you that the article is conspicuously short of citations for many of the statements made in it. The section on "Works" has six paragraphs and a single citation, and throughout the piece there are statements that are wholly unreferenced. It wouldn't, I think, get through FAC if submitted now. – Tim Riley (talk) 14:27, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
